Disclaimer: I am friends with the owner. With that said, I have also recommended this winery to many of my friends. Three of my friends held their weddings here and I personally hosted a friends bridal shower here during the pandemic. I have to say the venue is PERFECT for all occasions. There are distinct areas that you can rent. During the pandemic, the owner went out of his way to help us set up the bridal shower, make sure the area was well ventilated, but also included heat lamps and fans so we would be comfortable. There is also an Air Conditioned tasting room that was super comfortable. I've bought cases of their wine and they make fantastic gifts. When just visiting, I love all of the activities they have and the wines. I will definitely be back and hope to host more events here. read more

Our company held its semi-annual lady's meeting at the Greenlee tavern. We had such a great time there trying several wonderful wines. It was a great environment and perfect atmosphere. My buddy and his wife had a bday party here in the barn lounge area for their son. They had a vender there at the party for small pancakes with toppings you can choose from and they had lots of little food treats to pick from at the party as well. Some people ordered from the bar some drinks. I had a glass of wine. It was on the sweet side. The wine was decent. This place had a live musician playing, and lots of lounge areas and sitting spaces around. Parking was not an issue. But decent cool place. If it's a cold chilly day I recommend bringing a blanket or wearing proper clothes before you go there so you can stay comfortable and warm. They have a playground area for kids as well. read more

I love the setting of this winery. The customer area is open and in what I would call an open barn. There are beautifully laid out seating areas, some with outdoor sectional seating and some with bistro tables and chairs. I can see this area being great for early evening get together also as there are numerous string lights. The wine is very good for Virginia. Mind you I'm fro The San Francisco Nay area so I shouldn't compare the wine to Napa. That wouldn't be fair. However, this does have the best Virginia Cab I've had. The Rose is light but does have a nice body. The Shiraz is good also and what I expect for a Shiraz. They also have a dessert wine---Traminette. This is very tasty...very smooth which could be dangerous lol. I brought my doggy and this is also Lovely for them. Plenty of beautiful flowers growing, fields with big trees, I will return. Also...there is a nice food truckhere also but I can't pull them up On Yelp: Bowes Southern Fried Chicken and Fish. Very tasty wings and chicken tenders, fish, shrimp. We came to this winery after a hike and found it on a whim. The service was incredible. I at no point felt like the owner was pressing us for money, or to order more. We got a bottle of the meritage, and two flat breads. The food was tasty, and the wine was really good. The heated inside didn't have a view, but had games, and books, and couches. Was very homey. There was a huge playground on the premise so now I know I can bring my kids here. The whole decor felt elevated farm house to me. I would def come back and recommend to my friends. read more

If you like dry reds, this new winery is phenomenal! We asked if David would open for us on a Wednesday in February as we headed towards Charlottesville. He readily agreed and in spite of 7+ inches of snow the day before he welcomed us after plowing out. We tasted all of his red wines and a petit meseng. Left with 2 cases!! These wines were spot on for our palette and price point. Very dry; well balanced. And the setting is gorgeous....we were in the winter tasting room which has more charm and character than possible being only 3 years old. We can't wait to revisit in the summer when the summer tasting room is open! read more

This winery would be great for families. Lots of outdoor space, room to play whiffle ball, soccer, etc. There is a play set on grounds as well. Several picnic tables under a covered area with string lights. There was live music, but the music wasn't good. There was a food truck. The winery is VERY dog friendly! Sadly, the wine is... alright. Let me start with a positive note, so that I don't sound like a complainer. The staff is great and very friendly. I love any place that is dog friendly because it is not common in Virginia. The wine is very mediocre, and I would not buy any bottle after tasted 8 different selection on the menu. So the one star is for the staff, and the other star is for dog friendly. The entire vineyard is like someone's big farm house with a multi-acre yard. Nothing special or spectacular in terms of landscaping or view. 2 stars for me, but I'm rounding up to 3 because I had a great time at the event, I just wasn't a fan of the wine or the mead. Pros: *cute space! The tasting room is in an old corn drying barn and has two interior spaces that feel like a mountain cabin and have some games. We were there for an armed medevial combat event which was SUUPER fun and the venue had really nice exterior restrooms for attendees to use. *Very dog friendly! Pups are even allowed in the indoor space. I'm one of those folks who loves the option of brining my v good boi, so this is a big plus for me. The wine.. we bought a bottle of the red meritage. It was extremely acidic. Unfortunately I find that to be common for VA wines. I did a flight of the whites and tried all but the sweet rose and oaked chard and most of the wines I wouldn't even want a glass of. The Petit Manseng was the standout of the bunch, definitely my favorite and most drinkable but still not a wine I'd order at a bar. We did a tasting of the mead as well and unfortunately didn't like any of them. Some had a bit of a farmy funk which I think is what they are going for, but just wasn't our cup of tea. read more

Mountain Run has great ambiance for both sophisticated gatherings and raucous adventures alike! Mr. Foster works hard to make the space secure and peaceful for all, and I appreciate that. I also am OBSESSED with his mead, and though my personal favorite is the simple wildflower honey mead, all of them are good. His cider doesn't disappoint either! I went with a group of good friends to a multi-day event that was held on grounds. I never saw any of the staff cross, and I would say they provided above and beyond for the event. I've been meaning to go back, it's such a nice place. Overall, if I was able to give as many stars as I wanted I'd give eleven.... cuz, it's one louder. read more

Mountain Run has only been opened for a few months when I visited, but is starting off strong. It's owner / winemaker is a younger guy named Dave, a DC govie who decided he didn't want to work for 'the man' anymore and opened up his own winery. I have to hand it to him, that's quite an investment! The vineyard is a repurposed farm right outside the town of Culpeper. The tasting room is in the barn, which they are still working on. He recently planted grapes, but for now is sourcing them when he can, including some land under lease. When I visited they were doing an event for (I think) Habitat for Humanity, so I was impressed with him even before I started drinking! What I tried: 2015 Viognier: On the sweeter side of what I'm used to for this grape. 2015 Traminette: Bold nose, honey-ish notes Dog Rock Rose: Combination of Shiraz and Cab Franc. Interesting choice of grapes for a Rose, but I liked it! 2014 Cab Franc: Softer than most Cab Francs I'm used to, with a fruit finish. Got a bottle. 2013 Shiraz: Rarity for northern Virginia, so not surprisingly the grapes came from elsewhere. Thought it was pretty good, but I don't have much to compare it with. They also have a Meritage and Chardonnay, but my tasting nose fail me so I don't have anything to say! read more

This is a really nice vineyard with a nice selection of wines. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy the outdoors, this is perfect. My friend and I went on a very cold January day but still were able to find seats in the sun which made it quite pleasant. The tasting room is in a large barn and has been very nicely customized to provide a bar area, some indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating. The venue also hosts live bands during the warmer weather. read more

This is my new favorite winery! At the majority of vineyards I've visited in MD/VA, there are a few wines I like but more that I don't or that are just ok. Not here! My husband and I loved every single wine we tried and had decided to hold our wedding here this past weekend. We had contemplated choosing a few wines to offer at the wedding but loved every one so much we couldn't cross any off the list. I couldn't have asked for a better wedding or venue, everything was PERFECT. The owners, David and Kayti, were organized, gave us a list of vendors close by to help with the planning, had a website for planning out the ceremony seating and reception floor plan, and went out of their way to answer questions or help where they could. They are the sweetest people and I hands down recommend Mountain Run for everything from a fun day visit (they also hold fun events like wine + painting days or yoga + wine days, because let's be real, everything is better with wine) to a party or wedding venue. read more

I really enjoy coming out annually for the Festival. The wine and sangria are amazing. The staff is attentive, the setting is stunning! What I don't enjoy is watching one group perform and mid-set have to move so the group playing next can set up. Hours are advertised on the page that Get Down Jack will play from 12:30-3:30 and South Canal Street starts at 4pm. Shortly before 3 owners of the winery had first performers move mid-set so second group could set up. This was disrespectful to the artists, those enjoying the music and is lacking in basic manners. read more

This winery is a true gem in the Virginia Wine region. My wife and I tasted with the owner David. He was incredibly personable and answered all of our questions. It was exceptionally well priced for the variety of wines that we got to taste. I was pleasantly surprised to have such a rich Virginia Chardonnay and exceptional Meritage. There were incredible varietals and blends. Im a hard sell on blends, but my wife and I walked out with a red and white blend. Found this winery on a camping trip and I will say if you are in the area it's the perfect hideaway for taking a quick recharge break and getting back on the road. The infrastructure of the barn and the layout of the winery itself are done to perfection. For those who like the outdoors the barn is the perfect amount of shade and open enough to give you a good breeze....if you prefer a little A/C, the barn has an upstairs that will cool you right off. Now to the part most people want to hear...yes they do have free entertainment and backyard games you can play with old friends and new friends lol...but seriously, the selection of wine served was my favorite out of the each vineyard we visited that day...I recommend the sangria, a good charge on your battery for your cell phone, and a spare hour to meet David and chat with other locals to really embrace the Mountain Run experience. You will want to FaceTime someone because the entire experience was very welcoming leaving the busy city limits of DC. Customer Service 10/10, design 10/10, I'm no wine expert but I could down bottles there easily if you're buying lol read more

A great place to just "be". Near beautiful Lake Pelham, this winery has a perfect layout for a Sunday afternoon wine tasting visit with friends or just hanging out and listening to the band with a killer wine selection. Perfect for special events, they boast a Air conditioned upstairs event room which is great to get out of the elements if meed be. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. This place is a destination. It's absolutely stunning for views and has a perfect atmosphere for a casual afternoon spent wine tasting with family and/or friends. The staff is super attentive and friendly. And even though you have to drive a little way off the main road / highway, it is worth the drive. This is a new winery, so they have not officially bottled or served any wines using the grapes grown on their land as of 06/2017. However the wines we did try were very delicious and extremely reasonable as far as price goes. Numerous amounts of leisurely chairs on the lawn, this is THE place to watch a sunset - they even do "sunset pours" - where whatever is remaining from tastings they provide to the straggling guests! Will definitely be returning! I hear they are going to be offering "sunrise" yoga - aka at 10AM ;) read more

We absolutely loved our visit to Mountain Run Winery! Dogs are allowed, and we were able to find a great spot in the shade. You are able to pick any four wines to taste from their menu. We particularly liked the Viognier, and I loved all of the red wines they had too offer, especially the Petit Verdot. The reds were not sweet which I was very happy about as I've found most VA reds to be much too sweet. The setting was very picturesque and peaceful, nestled back away from the main road with a lovely barn and many trees for shade. We hope to come back after our next hiking trip in VA! read more

I really like Mountain Run Winery. I've been here a couple of times. They are still somewhat new and small. The people that work there are always super friendly and not only that, the place itself is really beautiful. I've been here once in the summer and once in the fall. Neither days were too too hot so I didn't mind being in the outdoor tasting area. I don't know what they plan to do when its February/March and really cold. Delicious wines - we tasted the reds, whites, a rose, cider and sangria. I loved their Meritage, Merlot, and Culpeper Crimson, if you're a red fan! We stopped in on a beautiful, warm day in February. This was our first time going after hearing about it from several other friends who are into wine as much as us. We had heard the wines were young and we might not enjoy them, but went with an open mind. Upon entering the tasting room we were immediately greeted and helped. They were busy on the day we stopped in, but everyone got great service from the pretty lady behind the tasting bar. The first issue we had was that they only had a sweet white, nothing dry and then they started their tasting with two sweet wines; a white and a rosé. The sweet wines should go towards the end of a tasting. Dry whites and then Dry reds (lighter before bolder) should be the order. Then an apple cider ale was mixed in the middle, interesting. The wines were just ok, but nothing we really enjoyed. The tasting room is in an older barn, in the upper, hayloft area and is really nicely set up and quaint. We really liked the venue, inside and out. They have some great outdoor seating areas to sit & sip. Overall, we're very hopeful that they grow and succeed... it would be nice to have another winery in this area that worth the visit! Please stop in and try for yourself, many who visit wineries aren't as picky as we are, so you might feel differently about it. read more
