Their fermentation room has a glass wall that looks into the tasting room so you can see the tanks. Eastwood is located not far from Monticello and other wineries in the area. Once on the compound, it was difficult to miss; large glass doors and walls with the humongous crest on the front of the building. We decided to do a walk in tasting and were lucky enough to have Jonathon be our guide to all the outstanding spirits made at the distillery. Jonathon was extremely knowledgeable about the distillery's history, products, and merch. Jonathon's passion for the distillery was continually on display, and he kept the spirits light with his unique brand of humor. Be mindful that the tasting room was packed, so I also recommend making a reservation to ensure you can enjoy the experience. The options for the tasting were the clear or amber flight options. The clear choices being some of the steeped fruit and tea liquors, served with mixers for their signature cocktails. These drinks were what the distillery was most known for. The ambers were their more recent whiskey offerings, consisting of differing ageing and steeping techniques, to create their very different spirit flavors and textures. Jonathon was able to give us the history of each spirit, as well as provide mixing options, if they were a little strong for the palette. The ambers were all unique and each provided a little something for you to think over and you tasted your way through the Murlarkey display. We really enjoyed the tasting, the whiskey, the ambience, and especially Jonathon, who made the experience totally worthwhile. We grabbed a couple bottles, some of their great Bootlegger Boys merch, and made our way to their cocktail bar, Proof to taste some more of their signature cocktails. I think he is one of the best home brewers I've tried yet. There is no funny after taste to his beers. He started making his own alcohol and is just waiting for the all ducks to get in a row so he can sell it. He did make his own white and red wines and I have to say his White wine rates up there as one of the BEST Chardonnays I have EVER had- he somehow got the best of oak and steel barrels in this formula. Otherwise they sell some Rapidan Winery wines; good product, but, if its' not his, I'll stick with my Commissar and Toasted Marshmallow syrup. That's the other thing... who ever would have thought to add flavored syrups to brews!!!?? Genius. His ciders are also really great too. the Aloha is the best one. As for the food, its light fare, but man is it awesome. Amanda, Brad's wife and her mom kick out the best Pimento Cheese dip around! They also started doing charcuterie boards and have crafted some very creative ones at that. The ambiance is one a Vet can appreciate. It is a small building, but there is lots of land and outside seating as well. There is a fire pit and they have lawn games people can play while there. Dogs are welcome! And often they will do a Pup of the week and post it on their FB page. We love supporting Brad and Amanda and recommend it as the go to craft brewery when you come to the area. They work their butts off and often get help from Amanda's parents and their kids.

Then I remembered what I was looking for, thinking of the last vineyard we visited, not pretentious. The smell of the earth mixed in with what farmland smells like is intoxicating. The service by the extremely friendly, next door neighbor like female that tended to us was the best. We came in about 30 minutes before the place closed and felt so bad for not being aware of that and instead of making it well known that they were about to close she welcomed us in as if we had the whole afternoon ahead of us. We only had a glass of wine each due to us coming in so late but the wine we had was so good we are taking a bottle with us. There have been very few places that have made me feel as at home as this place has. Though, not only at home but made me feel transported to a place where time stands still and you get to just take a breath in and forget about all the stresses of every day life while enjoying a good glass of wine. The one red was so acidic, my friend was up until 4:00am with an upset stomach from the acid burn.
