A great find with some good food and atmosphere. Even in a chilly day the alley is a spot less crowded. Crab nachos and crab pizza for the win. Deliciousness. Friendly staff all around.

Also the other one had something burnt no idea what that crap is

Update tried this place again and got under cooked bottom of pizza. Come on man !! Also all the pies were under done on the bottom and one had some sort of burnt debris under it. Yuck !

The Thyme Market has been around since '07 and is owned by the Yarnall family. The restaurant (located next door) relocated from Philly and opened its location in Culpeper back in '95, offering European fare. This market offers take-out sandwiches, entrees, breads, desserts, seasonings, sauces, marinades, and other various spreads and such to add to your meals. I tried the Culpeper Crack at a friend's dinner get-together, and I knew I had to get my hands on some tubs! This spread is ridiculously addicting - thick, creamy, chive-y, salty, cheddar-y - super delicious!!! They have their housemade thin crispy flat breads with some house seasonings that pair greatly with it, but I prefer it with the Triscuits. Super yummy and great as appetizers or as snacks! They have 3 tub sizes, and while it's a little pricey, it's worth the trek over to Culpeper to stock up on these (just get the Party Size - it's still not enough!). Besides stocking up on the spread, I'd love to go back and try out their wood-fried pizzas. Staff are super friendly here! +Culpeper Crack! :D +housemade flatbreads +friendly staff +located next to It's About Thyme +ample street parking

The Thyme market is a great lunch spot. We ate there today before beginning the Holiday House Tour. Our group ordered a wood fired pizza, lump crab nachos, and an open face crap pretzel. Everything was delicious. If you've never had it, the Better Cheddar is a must. It's also known as "Culpeper crack." On Mondays, they run a pizza special. They do have heaters outside if it's a little chilly as several of the tables are outdoors in between the market and the cafe.

The first bad interaction we had was when we picked up one of the green carts, to which one of the employees snatched it out of my hands and told me this cart is for the online pick up orders only. Mind you, I had used the green carts before - I preferred them because they could hold more items - and nobody ever told me different. The lady just told me to grab another cart that wasn't green and left as though she hadn't done anything wrong. When I went to complain about it at the desk, they said they couldn't do anything about it but that I was free to pick up another green cart if there was one available. The second bad experience was with a lady working the gas station. We had saved up a lot of points through our purchases to get some money off gas, so I figured well let's try to fill up both our cars with the discount. I didn't see a sign out saying we couldn't, so we lined it up until we hit our max (which I think is 35 gallons). The attendant came telling us we weren't allowed to do that but I asked where did it say we couldn't? If the max is 35 gallons, does it matter where those gallons go into? Nowhere on the Martin's Fuel Savings page does it say you can only fuel one car with those savings. I didn't feel like arguing about it - so we only filled up the one car. God forbid anybody tried to maximize their discounts. Another factor is that the produce at this Martin's has a very annoying habit of going bad very fast. We thought it was just us - but we'd have our fruits and vegetables start to rot 2-3 days after we purchased them here. For reference, we had produce at Walmart last a week or longer - but at Martin's - it's almost like it was always ready to go bad. We noticed this on multiple visits. There was maybe a handful of times that it didn't go bad right away - but we ended up just not getting our produce here before we just quit coming. Lastly, we had one or two bad interactions with some of the other shoppers here. I think some of the folks that shop here have this idea in their mind that only some people of a specific social class shop at Martin's and it's a little hilarious because we're in Culpeper of all places. This town is filled with hardworking men and women and so it's bizarre to see a place that has people think this way. This isn't a Martin's thing - but something we've observed only here. I truly don't think every Martin's shopper thinks this way - it's just sad to have encountered it. It's all to say that I just don't feel comfortable shopping here anymore. If nothing else, the produce has consistently shown to go bad faster than the produce at Walmart and it's cheaper at Walmart than it is over here. It's a shame.

Beautiful, clean, well organized store! Wish I lived nearby it. I would shop it often.read more

Headed to the deli for cold cuts and was next in line as a young black dude helped a customer and a large black man (a manager) spoke to him and a female worker. The young man handed the patron in front of me their order. He looked me straight in the eye as I approached to tell him what I wanted and without a word- he TURNED AND WALKED AWAY! He went to a sink in the rear of the deli and started washing something. The manager clown kept bumping his gums and the girl responded and the (now) dish washer nodded. I however, remained unacknowledged. After the manager stopped quacking, the girl finally came up to me and asked my order only to be interrupted by the buffoon manager. It took me close to 10 minutes to get a few slices of turkey!!! Beyond unacceptable. I was literally constructing a one star Yelp review in my mind as I prepared to pay for my selections. I unloaded my basket and was greeted by an effusively friendly employee, Chris. He asked if I found everything I needed and rather than complaining about the idiots in the deli I asked where to grab a steak in town. Chris rattled off a couple of his favourite spots describing the pros and cons of each. He then asked another checker who also opined. I took Chris' advice and went to the PIEDMONT STEAK HOUSE and it was just how he described it, expensive but really good. When I came by the next evening to get some almonds, Chris remembered me and asked where I ended up going. I was blown away! I thanked him and told him that he had nailed The Piedmont. He went on to recommend a couple of other places to dine in Culpepper including a group of food trucks. Just goes to show that one good employee can make all the difference. Kudos Chris, you're a customer service NINJA! The deli still blows.

You won't see spacious shelves, food demonstrations or tons of employees in the grocery aisle. I like the food selections. The produce items are usually high quality and cheaper than most other stores. I have gotten a bunch of bananas for as low as .24. That price varies but it always cheaper than Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods and Shopper's. Crackers are normally cheaper at Aldi too. Merci chocolate packages range from $6.99 to .$9.99 at other stores. I just bought several for thank you gifts and paid $4.99 a piece. The owners have an innovative way of never having to collect their own shopping carts. You have to have a quarter to "deposit" into the cart to unlock it from the other carts. Your quarter is returned to you as soon as you replace the cart. If you don't have change, the cashiers are happy to give you change for any bills. Bring grocery bags. If you forget them Aldi has a wonderful giant reusable bag that you can purchase. I am not a fan of their plastic bags. They don't last long if you have heavy items. You won't find many brand name items but the products are produced in the same warehouses as the brand name items and are just as good.
