Date of visit: December 12, 2020 Honestly glad we didn't read the reviews before going or we probably wouldn't have gone and funny thing is I always turn to Yelp first before we explore a new restaurant! Anyway, we strolled up and down Davis Street weighing all our options. We went in this Market twice and decided it indeed was the place for us and only if we could sit in the Alley! Well, we did...what a charming place to eat. Made us feel like we were back in Europe. I already knew what my hubby was going to order when we walked in and saw the the Saturday special was freshly carved suckling pig! It is served by the pound. He ordered 1/2 lb with a side of mashed potatoes and a cucumber salad. And he had a wonderful Malbec for $5 because it was happy hour! All came to about $18! He loved it !! I ordered the puff pastry with chicken chipotle and bacon and a smoked gouda cheese sauce on top! It was accompanied by a side salad with mixed greens and a light champagne vinaigrette. It was wonderful! It was a wonderful meal and we will be back for sure. read more

In a cute beautiful town and exactly at the charming historical downtown Culpepper! There are Thyme market , The Copper Fish , It's all about Thyme and the Thyme inn! A Cafe, Seafood restaurant,fine dine restaurant and a small beautiful inn!! In 3 buildings and an alley between them you find all that charm and goodness!! One building has the Seafood place (The Copper Fish) , another building has the café (Thyme market) and the inn (Thyme inn) then the other building has the restaurant (It's all about Thyme!) I tried the café (Thyme market) which has sandwiches, wraps, paninis , hot food items and fresh wood fire pizza! Also they have pastries, wonderful desserts and hot & cold drinks! I'll repeat that WONDERFUL homemade desserts!! It's not the time for your low sugar , low calories or low-whatever diet!! Lol The variety is amazing and you will take a long time to decide which one you can get specially if you live far from there like me! :) Staff was friendly and welcoming! Excellent service!! 5 STARS You can enjoy the Copper Fish menu and the Thyme market menu at the magical Alley!! I loved that Alley which is covered (so it's good for rainy weather) , has beautiful lights and fans for the summer, heaters for winter! Small speakers for music .. I only wished if they were playing French music, Jazz or Tango !! It would've been great with that atmosphere! I'd definitely go back and try more items! We loved their restaurant last night, so decided to try their market for lunch. They forgot our order and when I enquired ten minutes later about it's getting lost they said "he's got it" but then they had to confessed that they couldn't remember my order and so I told them the turkey wrap. When it came I loved it but it didn't taste like turkey. Guess what? It was a chicken wrap. But, tasty with walnuts and apricots, but not what I ordered. What a miserable experience...just to get a sandwich! read more

The Thyme Market has been around since '07 and is owned by the Yarnall family. The restaurant (located next door) relocated from Philly and opened its location in Culpeper back in '95, offering European fare. This market offers take-out sandwiches, entrees, breads, desserts, seasonings, sauces, marinades, and other various spreads and such to add to your meals. I tried the Culpeper Crack at a friend's dinner get-together, and I knew I had to get my hands on some tubs! This spread is ridiculously addicting - thick, creamy, chive-y, salty, cheddar-y - super delicious!!! They have their housemade thin crispy flat breads with some house seasonings that pair greatly with it, but I prefer it with the Triscuits. Super yummy and great as appetizers or as snacks! They have 3 tub sizes, and while it's a little pricey, it's worth the trek over to Culpeper to stock up on these (just get the Party Size - it's still not enough!). Besides stocking up on the spread, I'd love to go back and try out their wood-fried pizzas. The Thyme market is a great lunch spot. We ate there today before beginning the Holiday House Tour. Our group ordered a wood fired pizza, lump crab nachos, and an open face crap pretzel. Everything was delicious. If you've never had it, the Better Cheddar is a must. It's also known as "Culpeper crack." On Mondays, they run a pizza special. They do have heaters outside if it's a little chilly as several of the tables are outdoors in between the market and the cafe. read more

This review is about the dining in the adjacent alley which used to be a fun, quirky setting for all the glorious food the Market offers. Not anymore. The server was the best part of my experience. Personable, helpful and going out of her way to help all her customers. Well done. My $15 Chicken Caesar Salad was without a doubt, the worst salad entree I've ever had hands down. The bagged lettuce was brown at the edges. Looks like they rinsed it to 'perk it up' but didn't bother to dry it. Plate swimming in watery dressing. Chicken light pink I could not eat it. I've never sent anything back but had to, with apologies. Not easy to do. Parmesan cheese was the bagged kind you get at Food Lion. Like many I'm trying to support these businesses, but if they aren't even trying? They deserve to go under and it won't be the fault of a virus but their own lazy negligence. read more

We ordered a variety of sandwiches for 20 guest as well as cucumber tomato salad and spanakopita. Everything was delicious and we received many complements at the rehearsal luncheon from our guests at The Old House Winery. Everything worked out thanks to Connie - our contact at Thyme Market. Good food and great setting but the service was lacking today. When I inquired the server said they share tables. Well, today that didn't work since we had to repeat our order three times to two different servers. I would have been more understanding with the wait since it was busy but no one even acknowledged that we waited 45 minutes for our food and two of us just ordered sandwiches from the deli counter! This is a really cool market serving some great food and also has a lot of interesting jams/sauces/salsas that you can buy for enjoying later! This place was recommended to us by the folks at Old House Vineyards and we were so glad that they did! Their pizzas are a steal on the $5 mondays and we got a couple salads to go along with their margherita pizza to share among the 4 of us! My girlfriends and I grabbed lunch today in the Thyme Market in Culpepper. It was dismal. Veggie wraps soggy, no taste with canned mushrooms ugh. Had to ask for mayo to make some taste acceptable. Ginger cucumber salad was all vinegar and overpowering. Had to add sweetner to even eat a bite. Nice servers waited 1/2 hour for wraps that were already made in a not crowded space. However, their sister spot next door, which is the "It's About Thyme Market" DOES have refrigerated display cases, as it's more of a "dining/deli" setup. The food is pre-made in a refrigerated display case (which typically makes me suspicious). The only suckling thing about the suckling pig is that it sucked. It's was DRY & TASTELESS, which required dipping into the tomato (salty) bisk soup. A dollop of miracle whip would not have saved it, but no worries, no condiments were offered, let alone a menu which the next group managed to procure. Our waiter was not forthcoming with assistance or available entrees. There certainly was nothing Mediterranean about the lamb as it was "b-a-a-a-d". In quaint Culpeper, Virginia, there are some rather attractive specialty shops (or should I say shoppes) and businesses. Thyme Market, a convenience-store of sorts, is next door to the very nice (but sadly closed when we were in the area on Monday) restaurant "It's About Thyme". After our dinner up the road, we popped into Thyme Market for a post-dinner coffee to fuel us for the 1.5 hour drive back to the District. The reason the market is getting 3 stars instead of 2 is because this store offers a lot of great local flavor treats, including jams and pastries and cheeses, etc etc. They even have a glowing brick oven! Very nice, very authentic, and very fresh options. My complaint was with the coffee. A SMALL latte, plain and simple, nothing added, was $5.22. Yes. My man questioned, "What?! Is it made of gold?!" (in case you're wondering, it wasn't) Not bad coffee, but certainly not worth anywhere near the price. Kind of a shock for little ol' Culpeper. read more

The website looked inviting and they advertise a brick oven for pizzas and European feel. To my disappointment the pizza was not what a brick oven pizza crust should be or taste; and the European feel was Je ne sais pa. We ordered a Caesar salad and it was drowned out with dressing; and we ordered the tomato basil soup. The soup was decent but too thick, almost like a cream. This will be our only visit and three stars would be too generous. Au re voir, there will be no next Thyme. Update: 30 mins after leaving I am on the toilet with diarrhea. "better cheddar" spread! Love it, a bit pricy but a little goes a long way and I never go to Culpeper without stopping in and picking up a party tub. Add the flat bread and you will be hooked. I have tried to make the flatbread at home and still haven't gotten the technique down...but still trying. Think it has something to do with the open fire it is cooked on. Yes, there is what looks like a open fire oven behind the counter. Fun! Many times we will eat at Thai Culpeper and then stop in here for a "to go" dessert. Some lovely pastries, cheescakes, creme brulee's...a nice ever changing assortment. Wide variety of gourmet foods, perpared foods and what not. Not your ordinary market and by no means a deli...it is it's own unique entity. There is a parking lot behind the store, you walk up the incline and through the alleyway to the store. read more

This is a place that greats you will smells, colors, and a lot of things to take in when you open the door. After walking up to the deli bar and placing your order, you can go into the alley if weather and preference permit. The food is heavenly and worth the short time and medium price you pay for it. It is owned (or so I heard) by the same guy as Fogli's down the street (an extreme recommend if you are a foodie and willing to spend a little more time). Take time to visit the shops in the area if you have time and like browsing, this is a nice casual place to stop for a bite to eat. read more

My husband and I were passing through Culpeper and wanted to grab some dinner at a place with an outdoor patio. The patio of this place caught our eye. It's in the alley of two buildings with outdoor lights strung between. The market was very nice and you can go in and order anything from behind the glass counter or order a custom pizza. They have several wines to choose from and if you want a great draft, you can order that as well. (They are connected to a bar next door.) A great little gem in downtown Culpeper, Va! The staff was warm and welcoming as soon as we stepped in the door. They gave us the lay of the land with ordering and what was offered. The food was tremendous! I had a creamy coconut chicken served over rice. It was as advertised with huge pieces of chicken in a creamy coconut curry. My wife had a roast beef dish that was great, too. The meat was tender and delicious. We chose to eat outside in the alley which is a cool little space. The staff served us and came by to chat several times. They were friendly, knowledgeable about their food (my wife has food allergies) and so willing to accommodate. Yummy lunch on a drizzly day. Our favorite part was the lemon cheesecake. It was the perfect texture and flavor. I have a feeling I will be craving it. We enjoyed seeing Spreckers Rootbeer too. We have eaten at "It's About Thyme" several times and we're pleased with this next door gem. We live in Fredericksburg and every-time we have come to Culpepper to eat we are incredibly impressed.
