He also knows the spirits and the story behind each whiskey and brandy. Outside the distillery is a military ambiance and trucks of the era. In the winery/brewery, they also serve a menu of tasty sandwiches and other casual dishes, which we washed down with refreshing sparkling rosé. Now to the people who complain here that they were "ignored" by the bartenders or that service took forever...read: local spot. If you're from out of town and you're expecting rushed service and the immediacy of the big city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for something truly special, slide up to the bar. Be patient...the bartender will be there as soon as they're done listening to Old Bill tell his story. Order a beer and a pizza and take a seat at one of their small tables. Enjoy and unhurried drink. And right about the time you're feeling like ordering a second beer, your hot, delicious, perfectly cooked pizza will be dropping out of the ceiling on a dumb waiter (yes, from the ceiling...you read that right). Smother it in locally made hot sauce (an unexpected plus), grab your second beer and enjoy that delicious pizza with someone you love, or the new friend you made at the table next to you. They have a nice, open seating area with plenty of covered space. I highly recommend bringing your own snacks or food because there aren't many food options. This place is definitely pet-friendly, too. We saw many happy puppies running around and enjoying the day. As for the drinks, they offer standard flights, glasses, and bottles. We tried the XoXo, Gold Label, and a few of their red and white wines. Some of them had impressive flavors, although I think there is still room for improvement. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. However, my biggest issue and especially for the men, is that they only have one men's restroom. I honestly don't understand the concept. With so many visitors, they definitely need more restrooms for men. Otherwise, they might end up with some very unhappy customers! Overall, the atmosphere was relaxing, and it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the calm breeze. I would suggest turning the music down a little so people can enjoy some conversation. There was one that had a spicy kick, which I don't usually care for in my drinks, but wife does and she liked it. We ended up buying the Sunburst Citrus and the Strawsome strawberry lemonade mead. It seems like a great place to hang with friends, family, or a date. We were leaving just as a band was setting up to play some live music for the Saturday night crowd. They are doing a great job of growing varietals that do well in central Virginia, Petit Manseng, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, etc. I tasted most of their white wines, and liked ALL of them, which is quite a surprise for this California boy. They are creating some really nice variations, like Petit Manseng (2024 vintage) that does not hit you over the head with pineapple, and has great balance. Their Pinot Gris had a strong fruit component and more complexity than most, good acid without making your mouth pucker. The Viognier is less performed and drier than most, with good body and balance. They serve charcuterie that is locally prepared, and have a large cheerfully tasting room with comfortable couches and fireplaces for the winter. It's air conditioned and very comfortable right now, with great views of the vineyards. This is a family owned vineyard, and Noel and his wife and son were all charming and knowledgable. Strongly recommended! Ask them about the horse track next door, and you will learn some local history and family background that is not well known in the area.

You're also facing the barn with a large field and rolling hills. The horses and cows have plenty of acreage to roam. It's mid fall, but when the sun came out the large patio was warm enough to enjoy the outdoor seating. They had live music and a small bbq tent set up. Both were great. Definitely coming back again.
