We stopped in a Blue Quartz Winery one afternoon. They had 3 wines to taste, plus a cider. I tasted all of them: 2018 Viognier 2017 Merlot 2017 Cabernet Franc Thornton River Cider The wines are nice - if a tad on the "young" tasting side, I think as the winery matures, so too will the wines. The staff was very nice. There is a ton of seating inside, a fireplaces, lots of games, plus an outdoor patio. Outside, there was a really fantastic food truck the day we visited - "Graze to Griddle." Food was excellent! #BlueQuartzWinery

Blue Quartz is a winery/brewery combo. I arrived a few weeks after their soft opening. Luckily for me I came in a lull between the crowds, since a friend & I had the place to ourselves! The scenery is really nice, as you would expect from being located not far from Shenandoah Park. They have a vineyard, although it's still on the small side. They also serve cider (or at least a single cider; more to come later?). 4 acres of Viognier, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot are planted. The Viognier had your traditional honeysuckle notes. The Merlot was earthy, while the Merlot was full bodied. But the cider was my favorite. The building looks Amish-built, but actually was made by one of the owners and his son. Very spacious inside, as well as dog friendly. On top of the wine they have a brewery; I had a small flight of beers on top of my flight of wine. So plenty to chose from!

We found Blue Quartz from Harvest Hosts (a program that allows RVers to stay at participating wineries, breweries, distilleries, etc). It's a literal gem! We ordered a flight of beers plus their homemade grapefruit radler. We like to get flights wherever we go to get a lay of the land and decide what we want more of. That was hard here because all the ones we tried (golden, kolsch, Hefeweizen, red ale, radler) were surprisingly on point. Luckily the decision was made easier when we discovered the Peach Sangria. The best part is that they gave us ice on the side so that the entire pitcher isn't watered down (and thus ruined) by melted ice. I definitely want to come back someday and try their ciders and other wines but two pitchers of Sangria served us well on a warm summer evening. The venue itself was nice, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside to enjoy the band and breathtaking views. I want to give a sixth star just for the high quality TP (not being sarcastic - it was like three ply, top notch). This winery is very dog friendly. However, if your DOG isn't exactly dog friendly, like ours can be when provoked, keep an eye on him/her. The owners' dogs roam around freely. But no complaints here because the website forewarned us about the dogs and they own the place so ‍ Management is a big indicator of the feel of a place. The owners Chris and Hal appeared very much in love with each other and with their farm winery, which is refreshing and heartwarming to see. Might seem weird to say in a Yelp review but I think it makes a big difference when you see the ownership/management truly enjoying themselves.

Dog friendly and a perfect place for couples when one may like beer and the other likes wine. Blue Quartz has both! Blue Quartz puts out amazing wine and Shotwell Brewery has great beer. Oh, the views of Old Rag and rows of wine are not to be missed! Did I mention great music and food? Yep, this place has it all!

Stayed in a tiny house and went to an amazing winery! Who could ask for a better weekend?!?!?! A few weeks ago we traveled from DC to stay in a tiny house through Getaway DC and be off the grid but realized there were so many good wineries in the area. We ended up at a not so great winery before making our way to Blue Quartz. We were pleasantly surprised to see a live folk band and were happy that both wine and beer flights were offered. The flights were affordable and delicious and the service was great. Outdoor seating only was socially distanced and felt safe. We bought a bottle to enjoy there and took a bottle home. We will be back our next trip to the area.

The wines are excellent and there are several tasting options you can choose- I believe there was a red flight, a white flight, and a "signature" option that had both. You also have the option to build your own flight, which I always love. The 2024 rosé is a standout, we picked up several bottles to bring home. We could not believe how good the food was- it was worth a trip in its own right! It's on the pricier side but it is clear why, the plates wouldn't be out of place at a fine dining restaurant. We also had the kindest server, Chelsie, who made our experience so special and memorable! She stopped by to chat several times, gave us great recommendations, and she could not have been nicer to me and my friends. We were lucky enough to attend our dear friends' wedding here and it was a spectacular wedding venue. The space is just beautiful and the catering was incredible- some of the best wedding food we've had by far. We liked it so much we came back to visit the tasting room the next day :) This is a perfect stop on the way to Charlottesville from the DMV and a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon.

Prior to…read moremoving (most reluctantly) back to DC from living in California for 15 years, I had access to some of the best wines in the country. The wineries in the DMV area are generally lovely. But the wines? Well, they can sometimes leave little to be desired. It was such a pleasant surprise to visit this spot and find such high quality wines. I came here with my family, which included my partner and 2 young kids. Wineries can be a little boring for kids but there is so much to entertain the younger ones. First, there is a nice store that has a wide range of toys. And on the weekend we visited, there was a live band that completely captivated them. My partner and I decided to do the wine tasting with 8 pours. He went with the white and I selected the reds so we could try all of the pours. The Cabernet Franc was fantastic, which is one of the varietals that flourishes in Virginia. With that said, I think this was one of the best I've had in the region. My partner reluctantly tasted the Pino Grio, a lower grade wine he typically skips. To his surprise, this was his favorite on the menu with its dry profile and smooth finish. Finally, we enjoyed that this spot had a self-guided tour where you can go at your own pace and read about the winery process. Taking any winery tour with kids is such a challenge these days. So this was a great option to tag team and where we could both explore separately while one of us watched the kids. We'll be back!

It was a chilly day and we followed the instructions to ring the bell when we were outside. Shout out to the folks here who provide the cute cat with a heated blanket to lay on during cold weather. Members of the staff quickly came by to let us in and we walked into a empty sitting area. To be fair, it was around 3:00pm on a Wednesday. The vibe inside is eclectic, homey, and comfortable. We grabbed a seat at a table near the fire. We had time to review menu. I picked a classic Whiskey Sour and my Mom got one of their warm whiskey cocktails. Both of us really enjoyed ours. We sipped and savored them and just enjoyed a bit of a respite from our road trip. We both got a bottle of their whiskey to take home with us. These aren't your standard whiskeys and they are definitely more expensive than what you'd probably get in the liquor store. We've been enjoying our purchases at home since our visit.
