Side of building and view of the beer garden out back.

Our local watering hole, now that we've moved out of Charlottesville city and reside out in the county. I really enjoy James River Brewery. They've got lots of tasty beer, really something for everyone. I had their Liffey River on my most recent visit; it's an Irish Red ale, but it's darker than most red ales and creamy with a sweetness, but not like a porter, and it was really pleasant to drink. I also like their Hefeweizen, but if you're more into IPAs and stuff they've got you covered there, too. They have live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and their beer garden is really cool. I didn't even realize it was there the first couple of times we went, probably because it was also a colder season, but if it's a nice day you have to chill out back! There's a bar out there too, and it butts right up against the woods with a little creek, so it's calm and inviting and a good place to meet friends. Definitely a great place to visit if you haven't yet, only about 20 or so minutes from Cville. (Plus, Scottsville is a fun, quick wander if you've never done so, too!) There's street parking, and I've always been able to find a spot, but there's a lot next door at the general store, with a few spots I think JRB customers are free to use, too.

Great time, bar tender was wonderful and outdoor fire pit was awesome. Great selection of beers and pet friendly

It has been a long time since we had visited James River. We have had numerous opportunities to have their beers at local festivals, local restaurants, and a very good beer dinner in a local establishment. The recipes have gotten a lot better since our first visit. My personal favorite is The Green Eyed Lady. It is a very good Belgian. The Tuber is an IPA for those that don't like IPAs. Their APA was very citrusy. Reminded me of a NE IPA without the haze. Overall great time, worth the drive from Charlottesville.

I love them because good beer, good people and uneducated people like Paul don't want to go here anymore.

There is something for everyone. The views are breathtakingly peaceful. Such a gorgeous quiet spot. Now for the food... absolutely delicious. Such a great menu, but we went for the outdoor oven baked pizza. So delicious! It wasn't NY style, but it blended perfectly with the brews. The best part, my husband is lactose intolerant and one of the pizzas was actually made with all Buffalo Mozzarella. The good stuff guys! The real stuff. Maybe all of them are, but we didn't ask. The chef was so sweet to bring the bag of ingredients to the table. True Buffalo is so significantly lower in lactose, he was able to enjoy his pizza. How, in the middle of nowhere Virginia, is there a true Italians chef kiss, in a gorgeous setting complete with fine beverages? This is an absolute must for everyone!

We split a Club sandwich. The staff were kind enough to plate it separately with a handsome portion of fries for both of us. The sandwich and fries were excellent. We both had a glass of wine with lunch. The bill was 37 without tip, which I didn't think was bad. We would visit again. Nice job guys !

Once we moved, the server stopped by to take our drinks order which took a bit longer than it should. When it came to ordering, I asked the server to come back to me as I hadn't made up my mind. After everyone else gave her their order, I had to stop her from leaving so I could tell her what I wanted. I told her that I wanted a french dip sandwich. The orders took forever to be served (the place was not busy) and came out one or two at a time. Instead of a french dip the server thought I said french onion soup. I was the last one to get my food. When I tasted the food, I felt like I was eating a salt lick. Very Salty!!! I only ate half of the sandwich and took the rest home. I will probably end up throwing it out. It has been 3 hours since I ate, and I still have a salty taste in my mouth!! Bad service and bad food! I think the only reason this place stays in business is because it is one of 3 restaurants in Scottsville. Time for the owners to step up their game!!

This assortment had two whites and two reds--all of which earned gold medals at competitions. For lunch, we shared the grilled cheese with apple slices and the Eastwood salad, which included apples, blue cheese, nuts, and mixed greens. All were delightful. Their fermentation room has a glass wall that looks into the tasting room so you can see the tanks. Eastwood is located not far from Monticello and other wineries in the area. I decided on the White Reserve Tasting, and was able to swap out the oaky chardonnay for the Woodland White blend. My friend and I got a table outside as the weather was nice. We enjoyed our wine and people (and dog) watching. My favorites were the 2024 Viognier and the Woodland White. The 2024 Petit Manseng was good, but a bit tart, and the Artist White blend was too dry for my liking. This is a great winery that you should visit when in the area, that's both kid and dog friendly.
