Inside.

Inside is neat and clean, good location, staff was polite, food was pretty good, pasta was cooked well. I'd grab food from here again. 4/5

2 servings for a hungry person or 3 servings for someone less hungry per bowl.

This review encompasses two visits. I'll be honest, I would normally have made this a 3 star review, but today's visit bumped it up and I would feel remiss to not give it a better rating. Honestly, my first visit was not great, so I almost didn't come back. I live right across from this spot so I was excited that a pasta joint had opened up nearby (i die for noodles) and my neighbor raved that it was worth visiting because the portions are "SO BIG". She did also get free desserts apparently. Well, maybe I hit growing pains, but my main negative experience was from the service the first time. They had a young girl working the cashier and my god. I almost wanted to jump the counter and ring myself up for her because I think it was the most arduous ordering experience I've had in my life. I ordered two custom pastas and she had me repeat every single customizable bit to her, sometimes even repeating it 3x. She struggled to find buttons to press. I asked her to make it to go, and she said yes, then they tried to give us the pasta... not to go. The owner had to go back and make it to go for us (Im assuming the guy that looks sorta like a Hispanic George Clooney lmao is the owner?) And even after repeating the order so many times to the girl, they still gave me two pennes instead of two fettucine. It was even printed "fettucine" on the receipt. And to make it worse, the pennes in both pastas were overcooked and falling apart into soggy pasta pieces. No bueno. They were weird about how i wanted to custom two sauces together (Im paying extra so why can't I?) And honestly also the red sauce on its own is just incredibly bland, like... Ragu from a jar. Long story short, as we sat there eating our overcooked penne which we didn't ask for, and feeling like it was awfully bland, we decided we probably weren't going back. It was like a 2 star experience at best (and we didn't get a free dessert, just scratch off cards that give you 10% off your next visit). I will say, what they did positively last time was the portions ARE big. Like you can eat a bowl across 3 meals, easily. For $23 average custom bowl (with meatballs etc) that's...acceptable. But the quality of the pasta isn't Mother Wolf or even true Italian... it's really like eating a good college dorm pasta where you buy the box and jars and some toppings from Safeway and make it yourself at 10 pm. It's like... fine, but it ain't gourmet. I went back this time to use my 10% off scratch card and decided I wanted pasta bad enough to give them a second chance. This time, service was better. The guy wasn't exactly friendly or beaming, but for a fast casual restaurant, I dont expect crazy service. At least he got my order right without repeating anything! Huzzah! And it was to-go like I asked! Huzzah! My bar for local LB restaurants is kinda low tbh. And this time my fettuccine and ravioli were cooked okay! Nothing was overcooked! Huzzah! Taste is still gourmet dorm, but thats ok! Sometimes you just wanna eat pasta that tastes like something you can... cook yourself. And tbh when i tried the cheese sauce... smothering pasta in what looks like nachos cheese sauce is probably a war crime to Italy, but idgaf. It was actually tasty! I recommend mixing red sauce with garlic and truffle sauce to give it more depth and flavor when you order! Or getting the cheese sauce with garlic and truffle oil! On their own the sauces aren't enough of a punch, but if you mix it up it's not that bad? Also the owner came out again and this is what convinced me to raise the rating. He is friendly and I can tell he's just a dude trying to make this spot work. This spot is cursed cuz all the last few restaurants in here have all closed down; its honestly a great location but not easy to run a restaurant without alcohol in. I dont want to give him a hard time. He offered my pups pup cups (v sweet), he has a cute dog corner set up on the patio, and he told me some a-hole is going around leaving only 1 star reviews. So I'm here to give an honest 4 stars. I enjoyed my food this time (and again I have plenty of leftovers from the large portions), the service was an improvement, and the owner seems like a good guy. The store is clean and modern (they kept a similar layout to Ubuntu Cafe, which was here before). My advice to them - sell alcohol and hang up TVs. Idk. People on the Promenade want spots they can hang at, not just a quick service pasta joint. Customer flow looks slow and I think ubuntu failed for the same reason (and also unfortunately their food was nothing to rave about). But they were nice people too. Ps. You guys need to update your store hours correctly. It says open to 930 pm on yelp, but I stopped by at 910 pm the night before, and everything was already dark and closed. So here's to stores run by nice owners surviving. Please give them a try if you want fast casual pasta that will last you. I'll probably be back again with another 10% off coupon.

Went to Pastaphony on a Sunday during the World Cup game and had super quick service! I ordered a custom pasta and my friend ordered a pasta off the menu. Both were fantastic! The bowls are made to order and you get to see them cook it right behind the register. That's a big plus for me knowing that the bowls are super super fresh! The bowls are huge and I had leftovers for 2 days. What a treat! Inside there is also a coffee shop which is a good opportunity to pick up some morning coffee and then some pasta for lunch later! It is very clean inside. There are only about 4 tables inside but there is also outdoor seating. Since it is on the promenade it's also easy for a quick pick up. The staff was super friendly as well. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitley be back.

Soo i wasn't a big fan of their pasta. In my opinion the Alfredo sauce could have been a little ticker and there was too much pepper for me. the pasta stuck together like it wasn't cooked properly. To be honest the pasta was big dish but i didn't eat it all because i wasn't a fan of it. Since i felt like the sauce was light i felt like it should have had more.

Coke for reference. Portion is HUGE! Lots of sauce and delicious.

Very Good. Taking ToGo Italian, I'm always concerned that there might not be enough sauce. No concern here. I went with build my own. Spinach Ravioli, red sauce, meatballs. Not sure if you could tell the size of my portion so I took another photo with my coke can. LARGE meal and delicious.

I came here for a late lunch/early dinner with my roommate and Dad. The service was fantastic and the food was so comforting--it reminded me of my Nonna from Italy. The design of the place is unique in the best way. The portions were amazing, I will be eating my left overs for dinner!! We will definitely be back soon!!

Spaghetti Bacon Garlic Butter - yum!

Well deserving of 5 stars! Came here with work friends for a Friday lunch and all of us really enjoyed our meals. For less than $20 I got a HUGE portion that will also serve as my dinner tonight - now that's a deal! But my favorite part was that they served our meals freshly made and were generous with their toppings. We will definitely be coming back! Go and support this new business ... you won't regret it!

Went to Pastaphony a bit hesitant because they didn't have many reviews on Yelp.. ordered a build your own pasta. My sister got Fettuccine, Alfredo Sauce, Cherry Tomatoes, Garlic, Basil, Chili Flakes, Roasted Peppers, Spinach, Shredded Parmesan ($0.99), Grilled Chicken ($3.99). They accidentally gave her Parsley NOT Basil. When she went back and let them know they tried to pick it out, absolutely not. They did remake it, thank goodness. I got the exact same order but with no chilli flakes. They made the pasta quickly, not a long wait time. It visibly looked different than my sisters. & my tomatoes weren't cooked at all. I tried it, The pasta itself was good, it definitely had potential. I wish the tomatoes were cooked fully, & I wish it would have had a kick, like some Cajun seasoning or something. That would have definitely sent it over the top. The establishment is really nice, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was nice. I ended up taking it home, throwing it in a skillet with a little olive oil & adding in garlic herb seasoning & cayenne. That cooked the tomatoes more, and added the flavor it was missing. That made it delicious!

I read someone else's review prior to going and they couldn't have said it any better.. "Large portioned pasta that you can cook yourself at home." It's not great pasta but it's not bad pasta. I will say the breadsticks are mediocre and look like they came from a frozen package but aside from that I would come here again for a late night pasta craving if I had one. The staff was really nice although the place did look pretty empty.

Spinach and Cheese ravioli
Flavi G.

I ordered the spinach and cheese ravioli. You definitely get a big portion, it came with about 20 large raviolis, cooked al dente, and the sauce was good. The spinach wasn't as leafy as it looked in the photos though; at first I thought it was cilantro. With tip, it came out to $25, which feels pretty steep for lunch. Not something I could see myself doing regularly.

But don't let that stop you. It's totally worth checking this place out. I was impressed by the Parklet seating in addition to the inside front. We were walked to the back and seated in the outside garden area. Tables are on small rocks, plants are pretty to look at -- it was a delightful ambience. There was one waiter serving ALL the tables, and to my surprise, he did a great job with such attention to detail. Overall, he was a delightful, professional waiter. The additional servers were so efficient, polite and on top of their game. We started with the flat bread: Wonderful crust, incredible roasted garlic paste with a habanero cheese that was not overpowering. Such a nice balance of flavor. The two of us devoured it. Enjoyed my peach Prosecco which appeared to be a Prosecco with peach nectar, perhaps? Not sure exactly, but it was very refreshing and not too sweet. The cioppino was out of this world! It's so hard to find a good cioppino in Long Beach. It had so much depth of flavor with a little hint of spice and the seafood was fresh! My partner wiped his bowl clean. My dish was the parpadelle in a lobster sauce. The pasta tasted homemade, the bits of lobster (about 6oz) were carried throughout the dish where I experienced a wonderful creamy lobster flavor in every bite. I usually take home what I don't finish, but I couldn't stop eating it. Lastly, Chocolate Spumoni ice cream bomb is a must to try. Priced well at $10. Great quality in this dessert all around. The Parmesan cheese wheel dish looked incredible as it was prepared table side next to us. That's going to be my go to when I return. This restaurant is a treasure for Italian food in Long Beach.

I decided to check the Resy app to try somewhere new besides the 3 restaurants across the street from me, and surprisingly found an opening at 7:45pm on a Saturday night! I walked there from my house so thankfully did not have to worry about parking. I felt completely comfortable from the moment I sat down. The atmosphere is warm and casual, there was live music and a lively group of people on the covered outdoor backyard. My server was lovely as well, attentive, but never felt rushed. Everything I ordered was delicious and perfectly paced. I started with the fried artichokes which I had never had before, but I love artichokes thanks to my Italian grandmother. So light and crispy. Then I had the caprese, what a stunning salad this is! The avocado was a bit random to me as I have never seen one with a caprese before and it was hard as a rock, but still ate the whole thing. I ordered the pasta alla routa Cacio E Pepe which I did not realize was $65 upon the time of ordering, but that's on me for not looking that closely. They told me ahead of time when it was coming out so I could video it being made inside the cheese wheel if I wanted since they couldn't come to me being that the backyard is covered in rocks. Thought this was nice since I paid so much for it, may as well be able to share the experience with others. I enjoyed two glasses of sangria with my dinner and finished with some pistachio gelato. All in all a great experience, I just wish the pasta was like $20 cheaper but lesson learned. I don't know that I would come here often since I spent $190 on dinner for myself, but I would come back for date night, or an anniversary, or a special occasion, and have already recommended since going.

The oysters were delicious and paired well with the provided seasonings. The tagliatelle was creamy and savory with the shrimp and scallops, but I was expecting the pork ragu and bone marrow butter to shine more in the dish- couldn't really taste them. It was a party of 4 adults and 1 child. We orders the salmon, ravioli, steak, meatballs and fettuccini Alfredo do with chicken. Salmon. This was basically the star of the show. Display was good. Cooked correctly and not overdone. However... I can't say the same for the rest. Let's move on. Ravioli. Far too rich in flavor. Because... it's hiding something. Restaurants get by thinking they can get away with shortcuts. Until they meet yelpers, food critics and chefs like myself. This ravioli IS made in house yes. However once made it's obvious it's frozen and re heated. Such a shame. Because I can guarantee you if it was fresh? Probably some of the best ravioli you'd ever have. Steak. Asked for medium rare. It came out like beef jerky. Burned and overcooked beyond edible. We told our server and they made another. The next one brought was spot on, medium rare. However lacking seasoning. This was the food our child had. And he's use to good steak. Nobu, Flemings etc. he was not happy with the lack of seasoning. Meatballs. Well you can't screw that up right? Wrong. Again previously froze. Now I'm sure they make the meat mixture in house. I'll give them that. But why are you guys freezing and re hearing? Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken. An American Italian staple. Pasta was actually cooked perfectly. I'll give them That. Pasta itself tastes it was made in house. However the chicken, overcooked, under seasoned again. Alfredo sauce WAY too rich again. The manager actually came over eventually. Asked how it was. I told her about the overcooked steak and the frozen ravioli/meatballs. She didn't even deny anything and said ok. Took the steak off the bill. It upsets me that this beautiful exterior and interior restaurant is like this. And the staff was pretty solid in the front of the house. However the food is severely lacking. I have this place a 3 star based upon the cleanliness, staff and exterior/interior. I wouldn't return for the food. Only for the ambience.

The breakfast potatoes tasted reheated--no crisp, not much flavor, no joy. And the London Fog? Don't expect Starbucks loveliness. The plain black coffee was better. It was not good. The menu says it comes with kale, but I received mixed greens with it, not kale and the flavor was bad. It's hard to make bad avocado toast, but they did. Disappointing. Plus, service was very slow today. Our order came out incomplete and out of order. The atmosphere is beautiful, but this restaurant has a lot to work on to be worthy of its prices and the Fairmont brand. Second fail.

Disappointed that the upper restaurant was closed on a Monday which led me to nettuno…read more Service was impeccable. Wine recommendation was outstanding. The food was fine. Salmon w broccolini was delicious and was devoured. The calamari appetizer was disappointing as it was flavorless without the spicy tomato sauce and the zucchini were soggy and limp. From a 4 star meal down to 3.5. Servers, bussers, etc. were all prompt but didn't make me feel rushed. Hostess was friendly. Hospitality piece of the experience was flawless. Ambiance is cozy, upscale and classy. Dimly lit with plenty of space between tables for privacy. Saw a couple celebrating their anniversary here along with business travelers dining during their stay. Would dinner again but the upper restaurant will remain my first choice.

My wife has an appointment at Lather this afternoon so we decided to have lunch at Italian homemade…read morecompany near Lather. We had a great time to find some new hand care products @Lather and went to discover an authentic italian restaurant which lots of Yelpers mentioned. My wife said, we have to order at the front, then they bring the foods to the table but the owner took our orders, and brought the foods so fast just like other Italian restaurant. We love meat lasagna, pasta w bolonese sauce, and some flat breads like appetizer pizza. We ordered 3, lasagna, tagliatelle bolonese, flat bread sandwich called Cassone w sausage, bell pepper, onions. I had some italian red wine per glass ($14). First, I loved so much my lasagna and kept eating until finish my entire portion. I give 10 stars. My wife's pasta, she said pasta is too thick, might be on purpose? She likes soft, thin texture handmade tagliatelle. For the first time, we ordered flat bread sandwich. The sandwich flavor was good, but not the dough for flat bread. Well, we tried here for the 1st time after shopping. Today was almost 81 this afternoon. Hot and humid.....unluckily AC was broken so he opened the entrance door. One big fly bothered a lot annoying us eating the foods. And so hot inside restaurant. Overall, I liked my lasagna a lot, not really tagliatelle bolonese, nor the flat bread sandwich. If AC was working during lunch time. We felt much comfortable to enjoy our foods. One thing, I loved the red wine but the portion was not enough for $14. Even my wife said, not much for this price. I got 2 glasses of italian red wine, not enough. The view was great ocean side from the patio. This is a strong point eating here for the view. My wife saw the live pasta cooking show, a chef made the pasta, stretching the pasta dough in the kitchen....great show! Fun! Hopefully AC runs well especially hot summer season, the portions of pastas and wines might be more generous for the future.

Purely a service review because my young kids like the pastas here. Which is the reason why we came…read morebecause they were starving. Long story short we sat there for what felt like 20mins waiting for our food to be told our food wasn't put in. The server tried to blame my wife for saying to come back and get her order which another server did come back and my wife said she's not having anything because I was going to eat with my kids because we already place our order. 10 more minutes pass and the original server who took our order comes back and said what were you having again with this blank look on her face with so comprehension of the situation. I asked did you put in our kids order? she said we don't do that, we put in the orders all together (makes no sense, even when we asked already to put in their order). I tried to explain, it's okay will be leaving. We couldn't wait any longer for food and she proceeds with the nobody home look and tells me you have to wait for food wherever you go, like I was the kid when she was probably half my age. We won't be returning to this business.
