We were ripped off in this place. My daughter ordered a chicken dish, but was served octapus - a plate consisting of one piece of octapus and half a potato. She told the waiter that she ordered chicken (she speaks good Spanish), but he said that they had no chicken so she must have ordered octapus. I looked at the menu afterwards and there is a chicken dish on the menu - the one she thought she had ordered. She told waiter that she could not eat octapus and in place of it ordered grilled sea bass, which is what I had ordered. When that arrived, she ate some of it but then discovered that it was raw on the inside. We called the waiter but he said that we should have told him about the problem earlier, not after she had eaten some of it. The raw flesh was on the inside so she didn't see it for several minutes. She was quite upset and disgusted when she saw the raw flesh. At that point we decided that we were going to leave, without ordering dessert. After removing the main course the waiter offered my daughter a drink/liqueur to 'say sorry' as he put it. She doesn't drink alcohol and asked if she could have a dessert instead. She ordered a dessert, which she would not have ordered if he had not suggested something to 'say sorry'. We assumed the dessert was complementary, but when the bill arrived we were charged €8.70 for it and also charged €20.85 for the improperly cooked sea bass. Along with that, I ordered a salad to be shared by two people, but instead we were given two salads at €9.90 each. We were asked if we wanted bread and were charged €4.20 for that - four little pieces of garlic bread. We wouldn't have ordered the bread if it hadn't been suggested by the waiter. The salad consisted of just lettuce with pieces of tomato and some onion - no dressing. A complete rip off. The prices charged for several items were not tapas prices as we had been led to believe, e.g. €14.30 for grilled vegetables, which were on the tapas menu. The bill for the three of us came to over €125. We have spent the past week in Barcelona, have eaten out every day at a variety of restaurants. This bill was nearly twice as much as the previous highest bill and three times as much as most of our dinner bills. Shockingly over-priced! I challenged the fact that we were being charged for the uncooked sea bass and the 'complementary' dessert. The waiter said that he would ask the boss - an unfriendly looking guy who was sitting outside smoking. The boss said that the best he could do was reduce the sea bass price by 50%, since my daughter had eaten some of it. I settled for that as I didn't have the will for fighting - my daughter was already upset and my Spanish is poor. We just wanted to leave. This place is a scam. We were manipulated into ordering items that we didn't want, over-charged, and my daughter's food was inedible. No condiments of any kind were provided. No salt, pepper, salad dressing, mayonnaise, ketchup etc. This place calls itself a restaurant, but can't even get the basics right. Also, the toilets left a lot to be desired. Not what you would expect in any restaurant concerned with presenting a good image with regard to hygiene. It is not possible to lock the door, there was no way to dry hands, and to get to the toilet it is necessary to walk through a room full of junk - it felt like a builder's yard. We made the mistake of allowing ourselves to be pressurised by the waiter into choosing this restaurant. When we stopped to look at the menu he targeted us. We should have kept walking and gone to any of the other restaurants in the area. There are many good restaurants in Poblenou - this is one the worst places I have ever come across anywhere. Also we should have read reviews before we decided to choose this place. Avoid this place. They are dishonest predators who take advantage of tourists and manipulate people into ordering food that they don't want. They are only interested in maximising the amount of money they can extract from people. It is surprising that this place has not been shut down. read more

Disappointed taste of food for me. I ordered mussel and seafood paella for dinner. Mussel is not fresh. Seafood paella is not good. They put sausage in seafood paella which the sausage did have some smell and I think it is not fresh. Prawn and mussel are not fresh. Lots of tourist came to this restaurant at the same time with me for dinner. I think it might be from Yelp. For my personal opinion, this restaurant is not a good choice. Had the seafood paella for dinner tonight. I was eating alone, and most places including this place, will not make a single serving Paella. But when in Spain, I like to have Paella at least once. Passeig 9 did not disappoint. Very flavorful, and with plenty of seafood. It was a bit salty, so I added some olive oil and it balanced right out. Surprisingly, I ate the two person serving. We came here on a Saturday night around 9:30pm and were not impressed. Both the dishes and service were mediocre. This place is a tourist trap (as evidenced by the Cyndi Lauper playing on the speakers, menus in English, and guests speaking English). We asked the waiter for tapas recommendations and he seemed to direct us to the more expensive dishes, which we found annoying. We ultimately settled on the following: - Assorted varieties of cured meat (ok) - patatas bravas (very good - my favorite) - grilled shrimp (boring) - bread with tomato (good, but basic) - grilled octopus with potato (ok) We also each had a glass of Rioja wine, which was good. Absolutely terrific place on Rambla del Poblenou. You can dine on the street or inside. We chose inside. The Paella for 2 (meat) was very tasty which my daughter and I shared. I would prefer the seafood but was delicious none the less. My wife had the sirloin and my oldest daughter the lamb. The lamb was fantastic!!!! The other thing that drives my 5 star is the service. The people who work there are wonderful, made you feel comfortable the moment you sit down. Pleasant banter, light jokes and highly attentive. Just wow! Passeig 9 encompasses everything that is Barcelona cuisine has to offer on a lovely, quaint, tourist free street located just 7 blocks from the beach. The dreamy, quiet street of Rambla del Poblenou, is filled with lovely stores and restaurants with street performers and musicians. At Pressig 9 you are greeted by the sweetest Spanish man. We chose to sit outside in the neutral ground to enjoy the Spanish architecture and the shady trees with the wonderful sounds of the local music. We ordered the cheese plate appetizer, fresh salad and to share, the seafood paella and steak with the red wine sangria. Everything came out in a timely manner and absolutely delicious!! Food was mediocre but what really was amazing was that the waitress dropped a whole plate of octopus on my shirt. She did not even offer me extra napkins. She also asked if we wanted a new one after having spilled half of the extremely hot plate on me. Stayed calm about the situation and when the bill came asked if we could get the octopus comped seeing how she ruined my shirt but she got another waitress who was extremely rude and got loud with us. The food was decent, but the service was sub par. As our waitress was bringing out the food, she spilled a plate of hot octopus on my friend. She apologized and before casually walking away, she asked if we wanted another order of the octopus. Yes, obviously we wanted the octopus because we ordered it, but she was about to give us the plate with the two pieces of octopuses that wasn't on my friend/on the floor. Also, she did not offering him any tissues to clean himself off. We used the 4 pieces of tissues that were given to us with our plate setting. When we received our bill, we were surprised to see that we were charged for every plate, even the octopus. There was no courtesy given for spilling food all over my friend. We asked if we could at least be given the octopus dish as a complimentary dish. Our waitress called another waitress over, and with attitude, the other waitress asked "you ate the dish but you want it for free because of an accident?" The other waitress insisted that because we ate the second plate, we should pay for it. In my opinion, if you work in a restaurant, you need to provide good customer service and in my opinion, that is terrible customer service. I understand that accidents happen, but I also believe in courtesy and just overall good customer service. Unfortunately, the managers were not there, and so we paid the bill and left. This is a nice, quiet restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and a broad menu and a helpful, friendly staff. I was not in a tapas mood so I ordered the maccheroni bolognese and crema catalan for dessert. I was surprised at how quickly my food arrived and the flavor of the food, since I received it so quickly,then again, I had dinner around 7PM, so the crowds had not yet started. My total bill was modest, but I didn't order Tapas, which would have been significantly more expensive. I would return here again. read more

Never eat at the big shoppingstreet called La Rambla because the food is really bad and expensive.Take the opportunity to ask the locals and find the best food at cosy restaurants and for a cheaper price. This is a very nice restaurant with a great atmosphere and very formerly staff. We had the sea bass, squid and the garlic'd bread. We were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed and friendly waiters who seemed to have a passion for their work. And definitely try the home-made Sangria(!!) it's zesty and refreshing! My husband and I came here for dinner and we were definitely impressed. Service was amazing and the staff made us feel comfortable. The menu is translated for you as well, which was awesome for us since we do not speak the language. You have to eat outside to get a feel for the city. The tapas are amazing and decently priced. The sangria was actually not on the menu, but they have it and it was only 6 euros. I recommend the sangria for sure! For my sweet tooth cravings, we had to try the crema Catalan and it is for sure a step up from creme brûlée (very delicious). I was sad when all the food was gone. I would have to agree with other reviews. We ordered food (salad and 2 different tapas) and a jar of sangria and the waiter said it was "not enough for two people" which we thought was really rude. He had already brought us the sangria so he couldn't ask us to leave like he did other people according to the reviews, but we really wanted to leave at this point due to how the waiter treated us. Will never come back to this place again, especially that the food was terrible: avocado salad was mediocre and didn't taste fresh, feta cheese was cheap and portion was tiny. Fried tapas arrived cold and tasted like something that was in the freezer and then microwaved for 4 minutes, they were very chewy. Oh, and the sangria was terrible as well, felt like they poured a cheap bottle of wine in a jar and added some ice and oranges to it. We paid 44€ for cold tapas and terrible salad... There are so many good restaurants in the area, please do yourself a favor and sit elsewhere... read more

We had a wonderful experience at Passeig 9 on Rambla del Poblenou. My wife and son shared the chicken and beef paella and I had the grilled salmon. Both dishes were excellent - the paella was the best I've ever had (yes, I sneaked some of their paella - it was a huge portion). The salads were good and the desserts looked wonderful. There appears to be a great selection of wines although I just had a cold Estrella with dinner. One of the owners, David, and our waitress were very attentive. The presentation was great and I should have taken a picture, but I couldn't allow myself time to shoot one -- I was almost done with my dish when I realized that my glass of beer was untouched. Went here last night with a group of 7. The food was all very good, and the presentation along with very good service was worth every euro. The 7 of us shared everything (Tapas) and the mixed grill for 2 (two orders) was enough for us all. The selection of wines was very good and the recommendations (off the wine list) pared well with every dish. While wandering the Rambla Poblenou, we happened upon Passeig 9 and after perusing their menu decided to give it a try. We decided to have their Paella Valenciana along with pan con tomate, a bottle of wine and two dessert plates. The paella had a nice, zesty balance of spices and was quite tasty, though some pieces of the meats required a bit of dissection to remove gristle. We ended up spending 57E and while that may have been a bit high, we were very full and quite satisfied upon heading to our hotel, so we felt we got most of our money's worth. read more

I have been living on the poblenou and have passed this restaurant a couple times. A friend and I finally went in and although the outside seating was full, the instead of half empty (and it was rather late on a Sunday so dinner was about over). The host sat the two of us down at table and the owner asked her to move us to a different table when she went to the back of the restaurant. She was very friendly and asked us to move to a different table but we asked to stay at our current table because the new table he wanted us to sit at only had two seats next to each other (so we wouldn't be able to face each other while seating) that could not be rearranged. She smiled and said we could stay where we were but then the owner came over to us and started telling us we had to move or give up half of our table. We were very surprised because the restaurant was half empty and everyone else around us were parties of only 2 people sitting at the same size table we were sat at. When I asked why others were allowed to stay at their tabled but we had to move the man who I presume to be the owner said "This is my house", basically saying that he got to make up his own arbitrary rules! No thank you! Definitely not giving my money to this man. We promptly got up and left and went to a fabulous restaurant down the street.
