This is a quaint restaurant that serves some excellent Spanish dishes. Our waiter was especially helpful because of our lack of experience with this cuisine. He explained the menu and even had pictures on his phone. He left his phone at our table while we navigated the menu. Our party of four decided on two tapas, a pan of Paella, and an entree of grilled chicken. It was a good balance and portion for us. The tapas that we shared were the Patatas Bravass Xorus and the Croquetas Caseras 6Uds. My favorite of the two was the Patatas. The patatas were topped with a wonderfully flavorful sauce. The croquetas were fried balls of minced meat. They are also good. Paella is the signature dish of Spain. We ordered the Paella De Pelados. It is the seafood paella with rice, and what I consider the traditional paella. It was very good. For our grilled meat dish, we ordered the Secreto De Ibérico Mariando a la Brasa. This is grilled chicken and it came with grilled eggplant, tomatoes, and red peppers. The chicken was thin slices of breast meat that were marinated. Very flavorful. For dessert we shared the tiramisu. It is prepared and presented a small jar to keep the layers together. It was yummy. read more

Came in for a late dinner (10pm) and was so glad they were open. Seems popular with the locals without being overly packed as we didn't need a reservation. One staff spoke English, and provided to us an English menu which helped tremendously for our first dinner in Spain. This staff alone was super friendly, fun, and kind to us while we're figuring out the type of dinner to enjoy in Spain. I have no idea how the chefs do it, but two chefs were able to cook an incredible variety of dishes all super delicious and well. We ordered calamari (the most tender fried calamari I've ever HAD), fried veal, pig ears, patatas bravas, and paella. Everything was super delicious and we had a wonderful time. My friend and I were on the hunt for some food. However, I have to gripe about how several of the restaurants pages on Yelp weren't up to date. I have to admit, we eventually just started using another platform because too many times we found incorrect hours or businesses closed and not updated on Yelp. Anyway, we ended up at Xorus. And it was a wonderful experience. From the service to the food, and even the wealth of knowledge shared by both the server (who we thought was the owner & one of the owners as well) about Catalonian Cuisine. First off - staff spoke English. I bring that up not because it was a requirement for me, but to share for those who might. They were so friendly - taking their time to explain the dishes and the differences between Catalonian and Spanish dishes as well as the regional dishes. Our server was so passionate about what he was doing that we both assumed he was the owner. When we asked him - he shared that he's merely a humble server. But then the owner who was also helping us slid right in while our server was busy tending to the other patrons. So, to the food - I enjoyed the food though they were definitely different from what I'm used to. Dishes were seasoned evenly and lightly and worked for my taste buds. See pics. This restaurant is located on the section Las Ramblas that is in the Poblenou neighborhood. We really enjoyed the outdoor eating area and the people watching. Food was tasty and competitively priced in comparison to other restaurants in the area. The chorizo was out of this world, we also really liked their take on patatas bravas. We got a great garden salad with tuna and the Catalan bread was the bomb! Only thing not outstanding was actually the seafood paella. It came out looking really pretty and smelled great but was way over salted. Our server was trying to veer us towards a Chardonnay that was on the wine list but we really wanted to try something from Catalunya. **December 2022: Friday Evening Visit** My friend and I walked towards the Poblenou neighborhood to find some eats and unfortunately two restaurants that we were considering were unavailable. Nevertheless, we wandered around and found Xorus. It was a happening spot so we popped in (even without a reservation). Our waiter took fantastic care of us. He was polite, helpful, quick and answered all our questions regarding the menu items. They had a whole section of Toast on their menu, so I figured I'd order a traditional one. He came by with the and showed us how Catalonians prepare their iconic snack. He peeled the raw garlic, grated it on the toast directly, smeared some tomato juice on top then sprinkled some salt and olive oil. Wow for something so simple it was fantastic as it had the perfect crunch, savoriness, and sweetness (from the tomato). Next time I want to try other Toast options! We tried several tapas including calamari, shishito peppers (loved!), a large salad, and Catalan Cream (Catalonian Cream Brulee). It was a lovely meal and the service was perfect. Our waiter seemed so passionate that I mistakenly thought he was the owner! He just seemed like he knew everything and was so thoughtful and caring! If you want to have a heart-felt meal from hard-working staff and support a local Catalonian establishment you should consider Xorus. read more

THE BEST MEAL WE HAD IN BARCELONA. That is saying quite a lot. We have been eating all over the city and leaving a lot of five star reviews. In many cases, we went to old familiar restaurants, places we reviewed years ago. They are still, extraordinary five star places. We have gone to fantastic brand new places that we will have to return to when we come back Yet, even with all the treats and banquets we had ... Xorus was the Absolute Positive First Prize Meal. If Yelp had a Six Star rating, Xorus would have gotten it. And the place is not expensive either. The best meal of our trip was 35 euros for two people. If anyone were to ask Samuel C. for one place I recommend they should eat in Barcelona, Xorus would be my recommendation. And this is on a list where second, third, fourth and fifth place are all astounding establishments. * * * Xorus is on the Rambla del Pobleneu. This is one of Barcelona's many "restaurant boulevards", Where half to three quarters of all the stores are restaurants And the sidewalks are all filled with chairs and tables for people to eat outside. Rambla del Pobleneu is far far away from the downtown tourist mobs. It is tree-d and gracious. It is a beautiful place to eat. And many of the establishments are utterly first rate. * * * This is a "cook with a mind of his own" establishment. He borrows extensively from Galician cuisine. He does some Catalan dishes. But mostly he cooks whatever he feels like cooking - and his way at that. His way is a damm damm good way. * * * Among the many stars on an afternoon of never-to-be-forgotten eating: a) The best tempura I have ever had in my life. Not like any Japanese tempura you have ever had. This is deep fried, yes. The batter is a rice flour batter, yes. Some of the vegetables and shellfish are the ones used by the Japanese, yes. And all resemblance to what you have had elsewhere disappears after that. This tempura is small and tubular. Think something half the size of a ziti. Think utterly uniform shapes except for the broccoli which are spheres. You never know by looking at the tubes what exactly you are going to get. And then imagine internal contents that have three times the flavor you get in a traditional tempura. I was in love. b) Also from the fryer, but completely different ... An utterly outstanding fried bacalhau. Bacalhau is usually disappointment fish. I am sad 95% of the time I order it. Which is too bad because bacalhau is usually expensive disappointment fish. The cook at Xorus's intentionally violates the number one rule of bacalhau. Bacalhau is salt cod. You are supposed to rinse it a lot to get the salt out. Otherwise the fish is inedible. At Xorus's, he does a third of a rinse and calls it a day. The fish you get is hugely salty. But he is going to fry the fish. The salt plays off the batter magnificently. And because the fish is negligibly rinsed it has a huge magnificent wonderful fish taste. Other bacalhau is tasteless fish chewing gum. I was in love a second time. c) A tuna salad appetizer with a dark "belly" tuna with the deep undertones of a mackerel rather than a tuna. The fresh salad (no mayo) is served with a trinkle of Spanish olive oil you put on yourself at table. (The waiter supervises you to make sure you don't overdo it. My gratitude to the waiter for this one.) Imagine a mackerel salad without the oily-ness or heaviness of mackerel. Fish that is light, refreshing but full of serious taste. I had this before the other dishes and I have already fallen in love two times - so call this falling in love a zero-th time to go before one. d) The cook's adaptation of a Galician Lapeira cake. A Lapeira cake is actually a sweet bread like a Jewish challah with a lot of sugar in it. This version adds industrial quantities of whipped cream on top and in the middle and adds subtle flavorings inside the bread. (With a real Lapeira cake, the cook gets a choice of flavorings.) It is not sicky sweet or overpowering. It is absolutely marvellous. I would have fallen in love a fourth time, but then the other three dishes would have sued me for divorce. * * * Altogether an extraordinary day of eating. And then when I saw the bill and saw both of us had eaten like kings and queens for less than forty euros, I fell in love a fifth time. My wife was not jealous in the least. If I could describe this place is that the food is made for locals (super authentic) but the service is great for tourists (they explain things and are super kind and speak English) !!! Like I've never left a review on Yelp before but I feel compelled too. For desert this fluffy cake thing that was fabulous SERVERS/ STAFF WERE AWESOME. So kind, and when we asked they explained all the different dishes and taught us how to eat them. I will say the walk from the downtown Barcelona area was slightly scary as two young girls so maybe Uber, we walked through so interesting streets. But the neighborhood it's in is fun and local. My first visit to Barcelona and I am very impressed with Xorus. The store front is fairly small (you might even walk by it) but the cafe seating in the middle of la Ramble del Poblenou gave away their location. As we started examining the posted menu, one of the staff brought us a menu with English translations on it. After we were seated, the server who helped us spoke to us in English, which greatly helped our ordering. We picked 2 tapas: chiperones (small squid, a local specialty) and Jamon Iberico (ham, a Spain thing) plus with had bread smeared withg garlic, tomato and oil (the local way to do it) My photos are sparse because the server was sharing on what food were local and how to eat like a local during the entire meal. Something everyone in our group wanted. My main course was the Secret of the Iberian Marinated Grill with grilled vegetables. It came to my table straight from the grill and is good. Carnivore satisfied. If I have the chance I will come back, but as the temperatures drop for the winter, I am going to have to eat indoors next time. read more

We found Xorus on our way back from Sagrada Familia and had a great dinner here. We ordered tapas which were awesome and the waiter was kind enough to let us know when he thought we had ordered enough. We also got bread for the table which the waiter then proceeded to show us how they eat the bread locally, by rubbing garlic and tomato on the bread before covering in olive oil and adding a little salt. Must come here if visiting Barcelona! We arrived here without a reservation on a Friday evening 7:30pm and the inside was already packed and booked but luckily there was outside seating for us. Food is very authentic and delicious. Portion size was also great for the price. We got the esqueixada, tomato bread, and Iberian Jamon for appetizers. Very tasty. The waiter was helpful and attentive, even demonstrating how to make the tomato bread in front of us. For the main course we got the veal (medium rare), butifarra (sausage), and Fideua De mariscos (think paella, but noodle version, tastes just as good). For dessert the waiter said there was no set menu as options constantly change but he recommended the tarta larpeira (dessert from Galician region, highly highly recommend, not too sweet) and we also got the creme de Catalan (I think next time would get tiramisu instead). We enjoyed our dinner, the service and ambiance was pleasing! We were the second table in for dinner but within 20 minutes the small space (10 tables or so) was filled. The goat cheese salad was substantial and salad mix upscale, with olives and anchovies tweaking the taste. Large piece of goat cheese topped with pesto with the anchovies paste.
