If ever visiting the lovely and colorful Poblenou, be sure to visit this incredible restaurant! The cheese selection and quality is absolutely superb. Even if without time to sit down and eat, do buy some cheese to go! We did that and then returned for a proper dinner. The atmosphere was so cozy and makes me feel like it's Christmas there everyday! The service is so kind and accommodating. We shared three incredible salads (one with bufalo mozzarella, one with mushrooms, and the third with orange and chili, as well as shared a large cheese plate of cheeses from Northern Spain. Wow! Everything was absolutely divine! All of the salads were incredible (and it was my first and last bite of jamon iberico while in Barcelona as I'm vegetarian and made an exception of a bite here in order to experience the culinary history of Barcelona... and I am so glad I did this here as my cousin who lives near the restaurant confirmed it is among the best Iberico he had ever eaten). The Rose was incredible and they offer an extensive wine list. The cheeses were unforgettable dekicious. It was such a delicious, beautiful and memorable dinner with such lovely company and our last dinner together in Barcelona this trip. Thank you so much! As primarily English speaking it has been a disappointing culinary adventure throughout Spain, but not here. Not only did our server amuse our broken Spanish but he also spoke English. The food was absolutely amazing. I had a Tebia salad. I honestly can't say I've been so excited over a salad. It had a wonderful aray of light toppings with a hot host cheese on toast. It was delightful and rich with the semisweet salad. My spouse had the fondue and a toast with iberco ham. The tiramisu was not to sweet yet creamy and delicate. First recommended by some friends, we keep coming back to this little gem. It is fast becoming our local go-to when we have out-of-towns friends visit. Best to get one of the big platers of meats and cheese and some wine. WARNING: If you are fussy about service, skip this place. It is a little bit of a mad house. The service can be rough and ready at times and we have heard staff talk back to fussy customers. Also, get there early otherwise there can be a bit of a wait. This review is a little belated but this was a wonderfully hospitable restaurant in Poblenou when I was visiting Barcelona. I went with a large group of 6, and reservations were ready for us as soon as we arrived. We got the group multi-course deal where they brought out breads, meat and cheese platters, and etc. The Iberian ham was excellent, and they had a special kind of beet cheese? Wonderful experience, great for groups. Just as an FYI -- for western travelers who are used to a more brisk pace of service (e.g. most first time visitors from the US), this place is pretty typical of the Catalan style of not hurrying diners. So if you need a waiter, you have to get their attention explicitly, and when youre ready to go, you have to ask a waiter directly to bring the check. Out of all the meats and all the cheeses and all of the wine in all of Barcelona, none even come close to holding a candle to the marvelous smorgasbord offered at Recasens. Don't believe me? Then consider this: during our 10-day stay in Barcelona, Recasens is the only place we went to more than once, and still think about and crave to this day. The place is gorgeous - rustic European charcuterie and cheese shop meets romantic bistro with low lighting, exceptional service and a drool-worthy menu boasting flat breads, hearty salads, house-cured meats, cheeses and fabulous local vinos. Look no further than the tasting menu, friends. There is no need. You and your companion split a generous and ample salad full of fresh greens, amazing stewed mushrooms (and I'm not a huge mushrooms fan), copious veggies and cheese. You then move onto The Board - piled high with various chouricos, cured sausages, jamon and even lomo (lamb) complimented by even more variaties of cheese (one even was even flecked pepperoni spices) that are all sinfully delicious and unique. With the food, you get a bottle of wine that they thoughtfully select to pair with the board you get. All of it is heavenly, and comes to a grand total of 46 euros. Seriously - a house-made, purley delicious and totally authentic Spanish meat and cheese fest for two for under 50 euros. Total. How can you not love that? Since it's a pretty popular spot and it can be tricky to get a table, we immediately made a reservation to come back later in the week, and we looked forward to going back all week. Everyday. I feel as though we stumbled onto a secret place with Recasens, so I - as per usual - grapple with sharing it. But I'll be generous! Here! Go HERE! Recasens is a beautiful spot in the Poblenou District of Barcelona. In December, arrangements of apples and winter squash and cabbage were put together as decoration, with tea lights interspersed. So beautiful *tucks in mental filing cabinet for Thanksgiving decoration 2013*. Just beyond the tourist fray, Recasens, to hear it described by my Spanish friends, began as a deli, then expanded to a restaurant serving many of its goodies. It is a delicious business model, with a menu centered around salads and big wooden boards of, to use North American trendy food speak, charcuterie. Our table tried an orange salad with mint and pine nuts (lovely) and (even more delicious) a foie gras salad topped with fine shavings of the liver. Not usually being a fan of foie, I was surprised by how regularly my fork returned to that plate: this salad was a perfect mixture of greens, and tart, and crunch, and fat, and sweet. YUM DASH OH. We couldn't have the board of meats and cheese (a selection of both Spanish favourites and others, with the stand-out being the white pork Catalan sausage) without some pan tomate. Vine-ripened tomato rubbed on bread with some seasoning and olive oil? It makes a great base for any and every kind of tapas, trust. With a bottle of wine, ample food for all, our bill came to 50 very affordable Euros for 4. Affordable high-quality eats earns Recasens a 5 star two-forks-up rating from me. Yelp note: seriously recommend making a reservation here. It took me a good while to wrap my mind around the 9PM Spanish dinner time, and at Recasens there are two dinner seatings: 9PM and 11PM. The amount of food that we've got for this money is huge :) The menu include wine de la casa, water, beer, then the food - pan con tomate, jamon iberico, all type of cheese, embutidos, salads and at the end dessert. I didnt have time to take any pictures because we were too busy eating and catching up, but the tapas selection is amazing! The salads are 3-4 types so there is something for every taste, the jamon was melting in my mouth! And the great part is that with the menu the tapas are more or less unlimited, so we kept ordering more jamon and pan con tomate and they brought us 3 times more! Here we did - after we queued for 20 minutes, we were given a table dirty by the previous guests and forgotten. You get a big bottle of water, their own wine (which is delicious), a big salad to share, then the plate of yummy cheeses and amazing meats that pair well together. Amazing decorations and good, authentic tapas. They are very busy though and the waitors barely had time for us. We got the wrong menues and had to wait quite long to order. Then they server each course seperately, to my big annoyance. First we got all the cheese, then the salmon, meat and finally - the bread. We had to wait 1 hour and ask two times for the tomato bread to arrive, so we also had to wait to be able to eat our food... Nobody had time to ask us if we liked the food or needed anything else during the meal. They are quite pricey but the portions are really big! read more

Came here due to great reviews in the Poblenou (Barcelona) neighborhood and it was great! Obviously a favorite to locals and very popular as we approached the door to a line of about ten people (five couples) and everyone was sat in a timely fashion. Staff is friendly, accommodating and working very hard to make sure everyone is eating, drinking and enjoying their time. The pre-fix menu of house red wine, salads, meat and cheese board plus dessert was perfect! I LOVED the cheese and meat selections and the decor here feels very much like you're having dinner in someone's home. Great cheese and meats! Service pretty bad. We ordered the fixed menu for two for us, since we didn't think the kids would eat the fixed menu, we ordered fondue for two with assorted breads and fruit, and an open sandwich. Asked what salad would come with it and was told wild mushroom salad. We were never offered a beverage menu if they had any. But the fixed menu came with water and surprisingly a bottle of wine(bad). The waiter put it on the table and left. We couldn't open the water or wine without openers so we sat there looking at the drinks for a while (we were thirsty!) until we caught up with him serving another table and asked to open the drinks. He never took away the extra wine glasses so we put it aside on the windowsill next to us as the table was small for the 5 of us. Salad was good although not what he promised. Meat and cheeses were fantastic! Even made the wine bearable. And then a plate of 7-8 small pieces of bread with slightly melted Brie came out. We were confused. Is this part of the fixed menu? The waiter is always in such a hurry we never really get to ask. This turned out to be our fondue. It just didn't come with 'assorted' breads and fruit. Kids hated it. The fixed menu supposedly comes with desserts and coffee or herbal tea. We never got any dessert and had to practically demand the coffee and tea.(the tea was not herbal). So all in all, was this a horrible dining experience? Surprisingly not. Although the waiter was a scatter brain that didn't really care, he was happy as a clam. Spent 11 days eating our way across Barcelona. This was the best tapas hands down. It also happens to be the least expensive. So get out of the tourist traps in the Born and head here. A proud Catalan restaurant serving various meats, cheeses, salads. The ambiance is fun, authentic, and not to be missed. They don't do a great job answering the phone for reservations - so just head over to the charming Rambla Poblenou for an evening (take in another of the great bars/restaurants on the street) and make your reservation. My wife and I got a recommendation from one of the servers at The Hilton AV Diagonal to eat here. She said, it is not trendy or chiq, but the locals eat there and it is good. Good, ha - it was a culinary experience!!! Our server Alex was helpful and when I ordered a reserve bottle of wine (24euro I think), he suggested two different bottles and both were 15 or 16 euro. "The son" Matsui was an amazing red and we had a selection of meat, cheese, Pate, and great bread. To top it off, we got a melted cheese that looked like a wheel of Camembert, but more salty flavor like Manchego. Must must must stop if in Barcelona and we spent only 50 euro for an experience we will not soon forget. To top it off, the owner called us a cab, waited outside, and talked with us before the cab came. When he said he was the owner, my wife gave him a hug and said thank you for such a stellar meal.
