Just visited the Parkway Grill this past weekend. The decor is funny, funny cause I didn't get it, just...all over the place. Not liking it at all. It's like they're trying to be a trendy, modern restaurant but it's not. They're too many old folks that go there for that to happen. We had the flatbread with cheese and walnuts, and that was very good. Kind of like a pizza. I had the short ribs osso buco, side order of rice of course, and my hubby had the cheeseburger with fries. Both were fantastic. No complaints what so ever. Did I mention the decor is hideous? The highlight of the evening? Watching one of the management staff spill a glass of champagne onto the face of a lady that was obviously big money because of the fuss they made when they came in...he he he. evil. read more

Took my father here for Father's day. It was good, not great or excellent. I was expecting more after reading the rave reviews. Our server Kristina, spelled with a "K," as she pointed out, was very attentive and the service was great. I had the braised short ribs, which was a little on the dry side, but the ragout was tasty. I did enjoy the chocolate lava cake. The pistachio ice cream that accompanied the lemon tart was awesome as well. The salads were notable as well. The balsamic vinaigrette gave the salads just the right amount of acidity and the shaved beets were a a surprising delight. Overall a nice experience, but nothing too impressive. read more

Three and a half stars. Several years ago, I had dinner at Parkway Grill with my family and remembered thinking that I thought the place was good but not great. My friend wanted to go to PG for his birthday and I thought that after all these years, I'd give it another try. Well, I've gotten older but my impression of PG remains the same. I started with a baby endive salad. It had candied walnuts, asian pear, watercress, dried apricots, and blue cheese and was dressed with a sherry reduction and olive oil. It tasted fine but the flavors were not impressive. The salad was more endive than anything else. There was maybe two pieces of dried apricots, a thin sliver of an asian pear, and a leaf or two of watercress. My friend ordered the caesar salad. I didn't taste it so I can't say whether it's worth $11. For my entree, I had the braised short ribs and my friend ordered the new york steak. The short ribs tasted good but were somewhat dry. There was hardly any sauce accompanying the dish. I tried my friend's steak, which was flavorful and properly cooked as requested. The sides that came with each dish were exactly the same: carrots and scalloped potatoes... okay, to be fair, my friend also had a couple spears of asparagus with his carrots. We finished by sharing the chocolate bread pudding with espresso ice cream. I don't care for raisins in my bread pudding and should have asked whether this one had them. I thought it tasted fine but again, it was unmemorable. In all, an underwhelming second look at Parkway Grill that cemented my initial impression of this place. The similar and boring sides that came with our entrees highlighted the overall lack of imagination and inventiveness I look for in a fine dining establishment and makes PG just a good, but not great, restaurant. For the price paid, approx. $140, including tax and tip, for two salads, two entrees, a dessert, a glass of wine and a cup of coffee, I can do much better elsewhere. read more

There was four of us at dinner on a busy Saturday night. The service was good although the waitress never heard of a Ramos Gin Fizz and the bartender didn't know how to make one. Last pit stop of DineLA when it was happening, their menu had choices but we didn't really have a choice for our appetizer as they ran out of oysters, bummer, I really wanted to try that, oh well onward to the lobster crepe. The lobster crepe looked nice, the orange sauce was really good, yes there was realy lobster, and yes it was really small. If you haven't had crepe before, it is pretty much really really thin ass pancakes folded over your food of choice. As for my main course, I really wanted to get the scallops, but I was thinking if I was actually going to get full off what is believed to be three pieces of scallop over cauliflower puree which is probably the filler, I was like I don't think I am going to full of that so I went with the steak. Can't go wrong with steak unless the chef don't know how to properly grill a steak, good thing they did and it was delicious, while it was a small piece of filet, it was still cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. It also came with mushrooms, mash potatoes and some asparagus, also nice sauce. Great place for dinela, can't rate the other normal items, also they ran out of the creme brulee, so the waiter let us choose any other dessert, I got some chocolate cake with fruits, it was actual cake and not just fudge like some other places. read more

Made me feel a little out of place, but all was forgotten when food arrived. The New York steak and the Filet Mignon were pretty damn good. Desserts are rich and sweet... The Environment was very friendly and the food was "Tom terrific..."the night we were there they had a jazz quartet playing (very nice) and the waitstaff was spot on.. I've gotta be honest. We were just driving by and the setup looked nice so we called and made sure we could get a table. That part was effortless and unfortunately it went downhill from there. You can see from the menu that the prices are exorbitant and I don't feel like you get much quality for the money. The mushroom soup had good flavor but was oversalted. The pomegranate "mint" drizzle that comes with the lamb tastes like pom molasses out of the bottle I have at home. The bread was $8, was all cold, and came with frozen butter that was impossible to spread. The $17 cocktails were so sugary I now feel terrible after only having 2 of them 4 hours ago, and the special barrel aged bourbon just smells and tastes like straight rubbing alcohol. The service was good and the patio is nice but really, save your money. Go somewhere with better food because this was pretty disappointing. I'm so glad we didn't spend $50 each on entrees. read more

My wife and I were at Parkway tonight... I need to say the food was great... across the board... the service was great too... that is until the end. We were with a large group and we were having a good time... still ordering drinks and our group was approached and told we needed to consolidate to one table... 18 of us into a 12 person table. Left us standing around and instead of enjoying the end of our evening we ended up leaving our friends and ending our evening early. Ive got o tell you I haven't ever been kicked from a table to turn it for another group... Not at average restaurants and for certain not at a quality place. I'll start out with the caveat that I'm not big on corporate restaurants. The best meals I've had have been at independent restaurants. I also don't mind spending money for a meal if it is worth it. I wanted to like this place, and I did like the decor and general appearance of the restaurant. The service was mostly fine. The food, however, was barely adequate and grossly overpriced. I ordered the Copper River Salmon special and I now realize that "special" here only means 30% more than the comparable menu item. My small piece of salmon was overcooked and swimming in an unappetizing-looking beurre-blanc sauce, served on a stone-cold white plate with two equally cold pieces of asparagus. That's it, for $47. As the waiter was serving our wine I asked him if the asparagus was supposed to be served cold - it was truly that cold that I honestly wondered - and he stated it should not be cold. My plate was taken away for less than a minute, returned with lukewarm asparagus and more unappealing beurre-blanc on my overcooked salmon. I'm not kidding when I say it was the most unappetizing presentation of a meal I've ever seen and the taste was overall bland and totally uninteresting. We also ordered fried cauliflower that was excessively breaded - really? - and greasy. My husband said his steak was good and $49 for a good filet is fine. The bottle of "house" wine was $55. It's a $20 bottle of wine so that's within reason. There are many, many much better restaurants in Pasadena and LA as a whole. No reason to spend this kind of money for a sub-par dining experience. read more

I used to love eating here, but hadn't been for a long time. We ordered the shrimp 'corndogs', and they were NOT good. The batter was bland and doughy and the shrimp had not been completely deveined. the 3 sauces were overkill and the mound of raw onions was overbearing. I thought it was fennel and unfourtunately took a big bite. My burger was served on a massive rich bun that I ate maybe 1/6th of. The meat was overcooked and the blue cheese was almost as nonexistant as the 'tomato aioli'. The sweet potato fries were good though but seerved with ketchup, really ketchup in this 'high-end of a kitchen. My companion ate about half of her 'pedestrian' steak sandwich. I have a mixed opinion on this place. The atmosphere is 5 star; service two stars; food is 2 stars. The corn dog shrimp with dipping sauce was amazing, however, the entrees were mediocre and way overpriced. I had the special"Bone-In Ribeye "and it was Outback Quality and was most likely "choice meat" not prime as you would expect for a 42.00 steak. It was almost tasteless and I was extremely dissapointed. My wife had the surf and turf, which was 110.00 by the way and was not impressed. The lobster tail was good, but the Filet was bland and lacked flavor, which is why they pour sauce all over it to hide the fact they are using choice meat and not prime. Good place for apps and happy hour, but I would not visit this place again. read more

Service: I took my gf here for her birthday. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The staff was very thoughtful and attentive, especially our waiter Manny. When we arrived at the table there was a hand written birthday card from the staff which was very sweet. After our meal they gave my gf beautiful orchards, a little cupcake sized cake (which was very tasty) and two glasses of champagne for the birthday girl and myself. I thought that was very cool. Decor: The restaurant itself is welcoming, romantic, and beautiful. It has high arching ceilings with wood beams which creates a rustic cabin, ski resort feel. I also liked the fact that the tables weren't jammed together so there was a sense of privacy. Food: Although I wasn't a big fan of the catfish, (they give you a whole fried one and I wasn't in the mood for picking the fish off the bones, too much work for too little fish), everything else we ate, such as the tiger shrimp corn dogs, clam chowder, and Alaskan Halibut, we're absolutely divine. Good service. Good food overall but I didn't like the marsala sauce on filet mignon. I had to add salt and pepper and it became ok. My beef was very tender but I didn't like it so much. I've had better steak a lot. Halibut was moisture and tasty. I liked the white wince butter sauce. Bread was good. I liked my Parkway's Caesar. Desserts were pretty good too. We got a creme brulee napoleon, chocolate bread pudding, and lava cake. Next time I'll go somewhere else for steak but I'd recommend someone to try it here. read more

I had halibut on a bed of mushroom risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly. But my risotto was tasteless. It tasted like rice simmered in water....not broth. I had basil lime martini. I was underdressed when I ate here. I'm recovering from a serious injury that I sustained over two and a half years ago and I'm just not able to put myself together the way I would prefer. I wasn't even able to figure out what kind of a place it was to know I'd be underdressed when I decided to eat here. But the staff was welcoming and friendly despite the way that I appeared - they weren't snobby at all. (Some of the patrons sitting at other tables gave me a few long glances though! But most of them didn't even look at me once.) The filet mignon was the best I've had in years! (Perhaps because I don't like to be underdressed, but I'm not able to dress up anymore, so I rarely eat at nice places anymore.) Anyway, I definitely want to eat here again. I'm very pleased at how excellent the customer service is and the quality of food that I ate is rarely rivaled. The ambience is quiet with a warm glow. There are a lot of tables, but we sat near the middle of the room and our table still seemed private. I doubt that people at other tables could hear our conversation and I wasn't finding myself accidentally overhearing anyone else's conversation and that is a real treat! (My hearing is very good and I tend to hear things I would prefer not to.) read more

During the evening, the waiter accidentally broke a glass right in front of me and was really "frazzled" right after. He immediately tried to pick up all the shards of glass he could see with his hands. Although apologetic, I thought he could have done a better job at making sure there were no more smaller pieces anywhere or in our food/wine and came by with replacement utensils/napkins. Ambience: Walking into the restaurant, it struck me as a slightly upscale steakhouse. Though the decor did not seem particularly awe inspiring it was nice enough. The live piano music was a nice touch though I would not have even known there was a live piano player if I had not gone to the bathroom. The bar area seemed oddly cramped with the piano stuck int he corner. Entering the main dining area, you could see that the tables were mostly setup for groups ranging from 2-5. We were a party of three so it wasn't a problem. Bread: After being seated, we were brought a basket of bread which I was disappointed to find cold. Even a chain place like outback gives you fresh bread. The variety of the basket and the presentation was nice though. That said, the presentation of the bread basket was quite possibly the only attempt at any presentation for the food for the rest of the evening. Entrees: Our party ordered the half chicken, filet mignon, and a burger. The steak came out on a smaller white plate with a side of mashed potatoes and two limp and off-colored spears of asparagus. For a nearly $50 steak I really did expect better. The entire thing looked severely washed out and just unappetizing. The steak itself was quite good though I can honestly say that the filet I had at nearby Green Street Tavern was better and cheaper. The Chicken was a pleasant surprise though. It was succulent and very well seasoned. However, that plate also suffered from lack of color and any form of greenery in presentation. Finally, the burger was severely disappointing. I ordered a medium rare burger which came out medium rare for half and carbon for the other half. Unimpressed, I sent it back only to receive a completely rare burger that was loosely packed and looked completely disgusting. I didn't bother to send it back the second time and just ate the sweet potato fries it came with. On the bright side, it at least had some salad and greens with the burger. Overall, I wouldn't recommend a repeat. You can definitely get better for less out there. read more

Food is delicious and doesn't take too long to be served. However, I was very disappointed that my steak was overcooked when I went. Everything else was almost perfect but I definitely knock off 2 stars for the steak not being cooked to order because that was a big deal to me. At first, i hoped that just the outside was a bit overdone and that it would improve closer to the center of the cut...however I was wrong. I ordered medium rare and it definitely was cooked medium which made my dining experience a disappointment even though the appetizers, sides, and dessert was incredible. The meat was good quality so I was able to eat it and still enjoy it, but it ruined my meal having it overcooked. The waiter came to the table twice to refill water, but neither time did he ask how the meal was going so I was not going to bring it up and make a big deal about it..and was too hungry to stop and wait for them to cook another one the right way. I feel that my steak was switched with a friend's because he had ordered medium and mine looked more cooked than his... but it would be a shame if that were the case since his sides were different than mine so it was a different order so it wasn't like they just switched plates while serving. I'd say for a place this caliber that overcooking meat should not be an issue and the waiters should check on how the meal is throughout dinner especially since they're already stopping by the table to refill water. Overall the meal was delicious though and the food quality and taste is amazing. I will be back and if my steak is overcooked next time I'm definitely going to speak up right away. read more

I have been to parkway grill almost every other family birthday celebrations. We loves the corn dog tiger shrimp, garden salad, and salmon. The steak are all nice the juicy. The only downside it is mean to be a quiet and formal dining service. I would avoid to go there during the restaurant week. read more

I'll preface this review with I don't eat meat so I didn't get the full experience of the menu. I got pasta with tomato sauce and the cauliflower side dish, both were below average. The pasta was 80% sauce, it was overwhelming and hard to get to the noodles. The cauliflower had pomegranate seeds, walnuts, and ginger but it was still very bland. Everyone else's dishes looked good, sea bass, steak, etc but I was disappointed with my simple dishes being so underwhelming at that price point. The service was great, the wait staff was very attentive and it was easy to modify our reservation. FYI the valet is $5 for dinner. read more
