This is my new favorite restaurant in Macon! It's like a mini trip to NOLA. Started with the Trinity Fried Shrimp. Wonderfully tasty with a little bite. If there was a larger portion, I'd order them! The food: yummy scrumptiousness in large portions. Shrimp & grits was my choice. It. Was. GREAT. Hubby had the Cajun Pasta with chicken. He liked it ... a lot. The beignets....perfect! Better than a few we tried in NOLA. The prices are a worthy spurge. The service was excellent. Our waiter was helpful and very knowledgeable. We'll definitely return very soon. read more

Nice place and good food! Went there tonight for the second time. Food: We started with fried pickles and fried green tomatoes - they both came with yummy dipping sauces. For dinner, I got the shrimp and grits. It made me feel a little nauseous, but that's just because I have bad reflux so warning to anyone with a sensitive stomach. It was still delicious! And I think the fried appetizers contributed to the reflux too. I should have gotten the shrimp salad like I did last time! Get it with bacon. It's delicious and not too heavy (because otherwise everything there is very heavy and spicy/flavorful). Their dessert is good too! The bennetts aren't as good as Cafe Du Monde but they're tasty. Drinks: they serve local beers- my husband had the Macon Progress! I had "She Loves It" which is a strawberry lemonade drink- can't remember if it had vodka or rum in it. But it was fruity, refreshing and delicious! Price: Prices range. You can get a basket for under $10 (comes with yummy fries) or get a sandwich or entree for a range of $10-18. There's a tomato cheese sandwich that's only $7 that sounded delicious! Service: The service ranges. All staff are pleasant. Some are friendlier than others. read more

Update: we tried this restaurant two more times. The corn nuggets are great. The remoulade sauce is just like it's from New Orleans. I just still recommend not going on a busy night because of what happened to us the first time below. We didn't get to even try the food here. Upon being greeted at the hostess stand they told it was an indefinite wait. It could be 30 or it could be an hr. I have never heard of an indefinite wait before. Because of this we left. read more

Visited about a month ago for brunch. We were seated, glanced over the menu (which was sticky and hadn't been cleaned) and then waited and waited for someone to come by and take our drink order. After 10 minutes, a lady came by and got our drink order. We then waited and waited, and finally just got up and left since the service was so slow. I've eaten here one other time at brunch, and didn't find the food to be very authentic to New Orleans at all. The brunch menu was small and there weren't many options for anyone not wanting to consume 10,000 calories in one meal. However I was SHOCKED when I recently saw on the news that they failed their health inspection. Absolutely zero excuses for this. I will never return! read more

This place had some decent reviews but did not live up to the hype. Old Fashion was very watery, had lemon slice, no cherry. The shrimp and grits were bland, the fried green tomatoes were greasy and limp. There were 7 of us and one guest had to wait 15 minutes before she was served. The food was mediocre at best. The waitress was extremely lackluster in the service she attempted to provide. The Macon Bacon, ( which is listed as a signature dish) was horrible. The bacon appeared to be leftover from brunch, and was tasteless and not freshly prepared. We waited for a minimum of 25 minutes for the bacon dish and then another 20-25 minutes for our chosen dishes. We had to ask for silverware as well as napkins. read more

We decided to stop in Macon, on our way to Atlanta, for a bite to eat. The seafood dip was amazing! The ambiance is nice and cozy! However, we did not enjoy the entries nor drink. The seafood in the Shrimp and Crawfish pasta was cooked well but it was not seasoned. The cream sauce resembled a mild artificial cheese sauce. The sandwich was OK but you can get the same thing at the local Buffalo Wild Wings. The spiked strawberry lemonade literally taste like koolaid with a shot of vodka. The service was mediocre. Our waitress was removed from an area and "given" to us and she was obviously not happy about the switch. As a result, her interaction with us was short, unfriendly, and purely unprofessional. Food was bland and tasteless once you got passed the massive amounts of grease. Extremely overpriced. My chicken in the Cajun pasta was dry even with the loads of sauce they threw on top. The New Orleans pasta at Cheddar's was better than what I had here. Place felt dirty. Wife's shrimp and grits was more of a soup with the amount of greasy brown "gravy" they added. Never knew gravy was supposed to have the consistency of water. My wife had gunks of mold and debris in her to-go soda from the soda machine. Service was average and nothing more. Would not recommend.... Ever. read more

Traveling thru Macon and needed brunch. This place sounded good, so we stopped . They say the fried chicken is famous! The biscuits, gumbo, cream cheese were fantastic!! The beignets with strawberries topped off a great brunch. Everything was hot and tasty. Highly recommended!!! read more

Dinner with Co-Workers last night had us in downtown walking around after the wait at Rookery was over an hour. Thankfully we stumbled upon this little gem where we were seated immediately. The decor of the restaurant is pretty cool for the area, exposed brick, some raw iron, and a lot of French/New Orleans art. I will echo the majority of posts on here that the food was delicious. We had the gator bites and empenadas for apps and I highly recommend both. Our table collectively ordered a burger, a shrimp po-boy, the grits, and jambalaya. Everyone was extremely satisfied with their meal. Other reviews talk at length about the delicious po-boys and the amazing grits but I want to take a moment and review the Bayou Burger. My associate had it prepared with "Macon Bacon" and "Slow and Easy". I had no idea what these things meant but when the burger arrived I could hardly question his decision. The Macon Bacon is caramelized and crispy (so delicious you can get an appetizer of just bacon) and Slow and Easy means you get a special house dressing with veggies topping the burger. If Creole/Cajun isn't your cup-o-tea then this burger will definitely fit the bill. I score this down 1 star for the service. Our server was very nice but when we asked for a drink menu or a beer list he said he didn't know and just pointed to the bar and said that's what we have. Aside from that our specific server was fine. I do want to point out that the servers would routinely visit with the bar, hang out with their friends, and even order drinks between helping their tables. I get that this is a small down restaurant late on a Wednesday night but there should be a level of professionalism here where employees don't drink on the job. I really like this place. I love the NOLA feel they have going on in there. We got there and they were almost closing the kitchen, but we could still place our order. Their shrimp and grits was very tasty. Our waiter was really nice. We ordered the bacon dish as an appetizer. It was pretty expensive for how much food we got, though. We couldn't order dessert because their kitchen had already closed. Looking forward to going again and enjoy all the options on their menu. read more

Complacency is going to kill this place. My food today was nothing like 6 months ago. The seafood dip was dry, not creamy as usual. The chips were stale, but the waitress replaced them with fresh ones. Why are they serving old food in the first place? I should not have to ask for fresh food. Our sweet tea was refilled with unsweet tea. The shrimp Cesar salad, with a total of 5 shrimp, had warm wilted lettuce and too much dressing. It was inedible, all but the shrimp. My guest was not pleased with the taste of their pasta meal, but my other guest was satisfied with the shrimp poboy, although it only had 5 or 6 shrimp. I am use to poboys in Atlanta, Florida, and New Orleans that are loaded with shrimp running over, so I don't order poboys in Macon. This place would not last 6 months in big cities were the competition forces you to bring your A game. As long as Maconites continue to support mediocre sub par establishments with this type of service, this place will do fine. But my palette will not tolerate it. I truly hope Macon restaurants will step up and show respect for our town and stop serving us scraps. read more

I had the shrimp and grits. The sauce was delicious and the shrimp was cooked just right. I also had their fried alligator, the bread had some crunch to it. Big disappointment tonight compared to previous visits. Clearly, management has dropped the ball with regards to attention to detail. Unlit sterno "candles", nasty burnt old coffee (although our waitress kindly made a fresh pot and replaced our coffee) and the beignets, although tasty, had a thick, gloppy layer of powdered sugar on top instead of the usual dusting on them. Went for brunch on my birthday with a few friends and by few I mean there were 4 adults total. So tell me why it took nearly 2 hours before we even got our food?? The shrimp and grits, sandwich, fried green tomatoes and fried pickles don't take long to cook. The service was good. The food was ok, but the portions seemed a bit meager, such as a single and tiny slice of Italian bread.

The food was pretty awesome. I just got a burger because that is my benchmark meal. Those fries that come with it was worth the trip to town. I had the beignets for dessert and felt like it was a frozen pastry. Next time I'll just stop by Kroger on the way home. The service in general seems to be about par for Macon, though my server only checked on me once through out my meal. I can't stand for my drink glass to go empty while I'm eating. He did however realize what he had done and offered to comp my desert. Good thing too. Lol read more

Reasons not to eat here.... I've given this place FOUR tries and I have been disappointed each and every time! The service is extremely POOR especially if there are more than FIVE people in the restaurant. The food is on the worst end of MEDIOCRE. It is flavorless and tastes like it is straight out of the microwave. Which does not explain the waiting time for any dish ordered including the appetizers. The staff often ignores your presence and continues horse-playing with other coworkers or friends that visit them at the bar. Seafood dip is very good and rich, chips have the Cajun seasoning on them to give them a unique flavor. Shrimp basket was good, lots of unique fries with a handful of fried shrimp and a tasting of really good slaw and two hush puppies.
