There are not only ferals who "adopted" the sleeping area, but people's pets in the area. Joe D's makes some of the best sandwiches and soups around. And since they started serving the smoked brisket and bbq it's just the perfect place to drop in for lunch. The owners Karen and Jody do an excellent job at taking care of their customers and are super friendly. read more

We were traveling through on our way to Perry Ga and stopped here for a quick lunch. We actually had found another place on Yelp that was too popular with no parking and had drove back around to find a place to walk back down. When we pulled up the sign read ( we thought) Toads which struck us as both odd yet cute. Then we saw the tiny open sign. They were really slow but since they were open we thought we'd give them a chance. Oh, are we so happy that we found this little gem. It's run by a local couple, and they were friendly, and welcoming. Plenty of tables, and more locals inside than you'd expect with walk in traffic. They make all their own sides (huge plus in my opinion) and cook the food to order, so its hot & fresh. A few of the items they do make earlier, and keep warm (home made mac & cheese) but I would expect something like that, and its not a turn off (Plus, hubby liked it). I failed to keep the photos, or deleted them, but the other couple and us loved the simple and delicious fare. A couple of chili dogs (they serve their chili with beans - an unexpected take the further south we went, but not terrible tasting --I've learned now to ask and not assume!) were just perfect for lunch, with a side of home made coleslaw, and tangy sweet vidalia onions chopped and served on top. A huge salad and a pork chop sandwich rounded out our meals, and free refills to boot. Do yourselves, and your wallets, a little favor, and stop on by if you're ever in the neighborhood. There are not enough of these tasty little places to visit. The only negative I can say is that we were afraid they weren't open - so perhaps a sign can be added at some point that makes it clear to the non-locals when they're open. Love this little family owned sandwich shop. I travel into the Macon area for business and have their Joe-D's Chicken Salad Sandwich every time. It's the best every. Friendly staff and you actually see the owners behind the counter making you sandwiches. No chain stuff !! Great Double Club as well. Must try it !!! read more

This place is a gem. The decor is fun and easy and the staff is terrific. My first visit I had a chicken salad on rye and a cup of chili. Both were delicious. The chicken salad was flavorful and the right consistency, not dry, and the bread and toppings were fresh. The chili was some of the best I have had since I moved to Georgia. It was seasoned perfectly and I wish I would have gotten a bowl. They also have ice tea that is better than any I have had in ages. The next day I had to go back for their Brunswick Stew. OH MY GA!! So good you will eat the styrofoam bowl it comes in...They have many sandwiches and other soups and specials everyday. If you have a sweet tooth they have huge cookies and pie! This unassuming little restaurant has the absolute best BBQ I have EVER had!!! They also have more traditional deli items like chicken salad and pimento cheese, but you really should go for the brisket or pork. Joe D's smoked meats are packed with flavor and are cooked so perfectly, the meat literally melts in your mouth. Their BBQ sauce is amazing! I wish they sold it in bottles! read more

This is my favorite spot for lunch. I absolutely love their chicken salad and the chicken pasta salad, and the vegetable soup is delicious.

I have never left a review but after reading The Telegraph today I have to defend one of my favorite lunch spots. Joe D's IS ALWAYS a good choice-if the line is 10 deep, as Mr Wright says, Joe & Karen are obviously doing things right. The salads and sandwiches are made toy order and I have never been disappointed. If you are lucky enough to get a slab of ribs to take home you have hit a home run. You are always greeted with a warm smile and the food is always plentiful and good. Every time I have lunch there I see a lot of the same people and always a few new faces. Mr. Wright lets support our locally owned businesses and think before you write your reviews, your last paragraph says it all. read more

I went today (11-28-12) to this restaurant and placed a order for the following: Super Salad w/extra cucumbers, jalepeno, pickles. & instead of ham, i asked for double turkey. I made this order to go. When i returned to my office to eat my salad, i was SOOOOOO disappointed disgusted and mad ALL at the same time-my SUPER Salad that i paid $8.61 for(they charge .60 cent for each extra topping!!!!) barely had anything on it, it was MORE lettuce than topping, i was so disappointed, so i p/u the phone and asked to speak with the manager (Joe) came to the phone and he was so nice and polite and he basically asked me to come back today to bring in the salad and i told him I couldn't because I had returned back to my job and couldn't leave out again, however i told him i could come by tomorrow on my lunch and just have them make me another salad, to which i agreed. We were about to end our call when this female voice came on the phone and was VERY RUDE, she said she was the wife of the manager and she begins tearing into me very rudely and nasty by saying the following: I saw the salad that was made for you and the way your salad was made is the way we make all the salads and we've been here for over 11 yrs and I'm not understanding what your problem/issue is!!!, Since i was at work in my office and unable to speak freely, i attempted to maintain a calm easy composure with this lady because it was clear to me I knew she was lying because I'm looking at my salad and it was NOT a serving size portion on my salad, they cheated me of the portion size that I paid for!! Because i didn't like her attitude towards me I stated to her that I wasn't going to debate with her and that I would be by tomorrow to get my money back i paid for the salad, she then says rudely to me: No ma'am! U WILL NOT get your money back nor will you get another salad! You have a nice day! & then she slams the phone up in my face!!!!! I WILL NEVER RETURN back to this restaurant establishment and let me forewarn EVERYONE: PLEASE BE AWARE & TAKE IT FROM ME, IF U ORDER THE SUPERSALAD TO GO, PLEASE, PLEASE LOOK AT IT BEFORE LEAVING THE RESTAURANT AND ENSURE THEY HAVE GIVEN U THE CORRECT PORTION SIZE ON UR SALAD THAT U PAID FOR!!! I do love Joe D's dont get me wrong but I do have a few complaints about them, 1st one when I ask for pickles on my salad dont just throw 4 little cut up pieces and charge me .60cent for that, I should have got a WHOLE damn pickle for that, pickles are not that expensive, 2nd complaint is how can you charge $2.50 for a JUMBO tea when bascially its just freaking water and a little bit of sugar, last is the lady that owns it SMILE MORE!!!!!!!!! read more
