Pancakes at Mother's Breakfast & Soul Food
    Yolanda S.

I stopped by Mother's Breakfast & BBQ. I had called in a breakfast Plate with a side of pancakes. They have both a drive thru window and you can walk in. The employees were friendly. The inside of the building was empty but there were several cars waiting at drive thru. I paid for my food and tipped the workers. For the Breakfast Plate and the side of Pancakes it was close to $15.00. I was a little bit taken aback at the price because I had grits eggs and pancakes and I guess a part of me feels that, especially for the portions given, the price could have been a bit lower. Honestly I almost changed my mind because of it. But as I started to factor in overhead and wages and insurance, plus the rising cost of food - it made sense. Somewhat. So I let it go. The food was good. It was filling. The grits and biscuit were extremely good. They had started to put up lunch. However they were not selling it at the time. I will return. I think it's better my dollars go to support black owned businesses (which I think Mother's is) instead of large corporate chains. It's simply the difference between my people being allowed to work, and owning the place. Having some ownership and direction and longevity in what they do. Overall, it was good food. I will be back.

baked beans, mac and cheese and fried pork chop with one bite already gone.

I ordered lunch from here through a delivery service. The fried pork chop was hot and had really good flavor. The coleslaw was very creamy and delicious. The baked beans has some sort of meat in it but they were really great. The corn bread was heavenly. It was soft and sweet not dry. The mac and cheese was ok. It had a little too much peppery seasoning for me and wasn't super creamy, but it was still good. I highly recommend this place!!

So on our way back from visiting friends at Lake Lanier, I as the passenger + navigator said..hmmm...we need a break but let's find soul food. I said. Who goes thru Macon and dont eat good. Not me. So, I hit Yelp. Then I asked AI. Claude. Claude gave me a list and there was the H! So we drove 20 minutes out the way. Best detour ever! Go early. Buy an extra meal for home. I gladly dropped my cash. ..salmon cakes made me cry....everything was off the chain. Well, I had my good juju on, I sat on a bench with a 30 year veteran of this place. She talked my ear off, what a delight. So the place is decked out in Allman brothers memorbilia. It was their early haunt as they rose to fame. Well the founder, older blk lady is dead. Her family smartly sold out to corporate. But it was worth it. They maintained all thats good. Even the tiny old bathrooms. Need an update for sure. But. .Definitely worth the visit. Parking was horrible! So go early! Now, you need to go by Macon cemetery. See Allman burial, civil war places. I want to explore Macon more now! Well, as we drove home, around Jacksonville, I reached in the back seat. No fork. Just a smile. Yes i fed my driver. Salmon cakes hit on all cylinders. Sadly the two meat plate left off my meat, turkey. But forgiven. I should have checked my to go order. Never trust. Always verify. Broke my own rules! Stop by. Soak up history, flavors in this quaint cafeteria style. Nothing fancy. Just pure delight!
