Funchess has delicious barbecue. I had the pleasure of going here and ordering the brisket sandwich. It was absolutely delicious. The brisket was cooked to perfection. The macaroni was also quite delicious. This restaurant appears to have been around for a long time and from the taste of the food will be around much much longer

Along with fellow Yelper Alan I find myself in Macon a few times a year on business. I'm a huge fan of BBQ and specifically in Macon, Fresh Air BBQ. This year I was encouraged by my co-workers to try this place because it was better so what else is there to do but get a sandwich from both and compare. I must say this is good BBQ...but [drum-roll]...I'm sticking with Fresh Air. The meat here i think is cooked with the sauce which makes the meat somewhat slimy - not a fan. The amount of meat used was also a little disappointing to the point where when I opened up my wrapped sandwich it at first looked like just a bun. I was really hoping for some BBQ competition but this place is not it for me.

Menu. BBQ Plate $6.80 comes w Brunswick Stew, cole slaw, French Fries and pickles.

Awesome!! Get the ribs! Food here is a southern barbecue treat and a hidden gem. Truly special BBQ and flavors that make your mouth happy. I'd give Finchers a five star review if the appearance and decor and overall nostalgia, eye-appeal, and dining experience were more memorable. A family tradition since 1935. I can't imagine a Macon restaurant that stays in business 80 years if they don't have award-winning, world-class food. Award-winning, vinegar based barbecue sauce!! Insanely good!! The ribs might be the best I've had ever! Get the ribs. Get The Pig special. Get The Pig platter. Be sure to get a double order of the Brunswick stew!! Truly this barbecue is some awesome food and you will not leave the place without a smile on your face. Fincher's hits the spot. Jake Fincher, the owner is great and his grandfather opened this restaurant in 1935. Jake is friendly, likeable, makes some great meat, knows how to BBQ, and runs a good family-owned, down-home southern, no frills barbecue joint. With 80 years of history and highest praise from Pitmasters like Myron Mixon, so you know this place is legit. Jake should definitely showcase the nostalgia, the history, his father and grandfather and family that have worked there over the years, as well as some high-profile Georgia legends and famous out-of-staters who have dined there over the years. I'm sure some notable and famous athletes, politicians, and picture-worthy people have eaten at this joint. Hang up pictures of those famous people from years past. Outside the look is so worn, tattered, and beat-up so there an insane amount of authenticity, nostalgia, and "simple southern roadside gem" appeal to Fincher's. A little more charm and comfort would make other patrons feel better and remember their brief dining experience for years to come. Anything to honor the history of the restaurant and the city of Macon would be super cool inside (just a thought). I'll eat there no frills anyday of the week. I'll be back! For sure I would love to here again sometime soon. Next time I'm in Macon I am definitely eating at Fincher's Barbecue with or without any upgrades or pictures on the walls or tribute to past memories and the history of Macon, Georgia.

When it comes to local restaurants, the first thing that comes to mind it Fincher's BBQ. There is nothing better than a Mom n Pop's style restaurant and being a BBQ joint you really have to stand the test of time like Fincher's has done. Ever since a kid growing up in Macon it has always been a Fincher's BBQ for lunch or dinner. There is so much family history here along with the great taste of some of the best BBQ plates around town. I suggest the BBQ Lunch plate if you are feeling a bit hungry or not just get 2 BBQ sandwich, fries and good ole southern sweet tea, then get a tea to go for the road !!

Good service unfortunately the food was not. The grits had to be sent back to warm them up. The bbq sauce was like water. Very disappointing

AN EXPERIENCE NOT JUST A MEAL…read more This place is located in a kind of seedy downtown area of Macon. We walked in and the vibe throughout the place won me over instantly. When the staff seem to enjoy their jobs and working with each other as well, chances are you have a winner. We were seated immediately in a cozy booth with floor to ceiling graffiti. The place just oozed character! We were told that at times in the loft above our heads they had live music FYI. The waitress was friendly and on point. We never found ourselves waiting to order or for drinks, etc. The food was great. We started with the solid gold soul rolls which were tasty. I'd say 2-3 people for this app. My wife had the hot pig and fig which she enjoyed. She wanted something a little light and it was perfect for her. I ordered the Dr John Burger. The cook forgot my bacon . No bueno. Our waitress was game and was quick to bring me bacon to complete the burger. It was well cooked and the flavors were excellent so all was good. Our companion enjoyed her food as well. We all left full and happy. And, yes I would return and I recommend trying them yourself.

We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were a great appetizer--crispy, flavorful, and a nice way to kick things off. For our entrées, we had the fish and chips and the smoked turkey sandwich. The fish had a nice crispy batter, and the smoked turkey sandwich was tasty and satisfying. My only disappointment was the fries. They were a bit soggy and lacked the crispiness I was hoping for, especially with the fish and chips. A crisp, hot fry would have taken the meal to the next level. Overall, the food was good, the atmosphere was enjoyable, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

What I just ate at Satterfields was up there with the best of anything I've had. I didn't get to try my go to, the brisket, as they had already sold out but I got to try the pulled pork and the chicken wings and WOW. The pulled pork was good enough to not need any sauces. The chicken wings were out of this world. I got them dry with sauces in the side and these too were perfect and didn't need sauce either. I did want to try all of their sauces though and got them on the side. Every single sauce was phenomenal. The vinegar sauce was perfect with the pulled pork and wasn't an overly strong vinegar, honestly one of the best vinegar sauces I've had and I live in Eastern NC. It's a crying shame this place is only open 11-2. The two folks working when I came in were super nice and helpful. I'm assuming the man I spoke to was the owner and he was very appreciative of my business. If I lived within 30 minutes of this place I'd be here every single week. CARNIVORE APPROVED

So, I hit Yelp. Then I asked AI. Claude. Claude gave me a list and there was the H! So we drove 20 minutes out the way. Best detour ever! Go early. Buy an extra meal for home. I gladly dropped my cash. ..salmon cakes made me cry....everything was off the chain. Well, I had my good juju on, I sat on a bench with a 30 year veteran of this place. She talked my ear off, what a delight. So the place is decked out in Allman brothers memorbilia. It was their early haunt as they rose to fame. Well the founder, older blk lady is dead. Her family smartly sold out to corporate. But it was worth it. They maintained all thats good. Even the tiny old bathrooms. Need an update for sure. But. .Definitely worth the visit. We loved the new look and were seated quickly on for a Friday night. The hostess was super friendly, as were other staff we encountered later. The rest of our experience was surreal to say the least. To start, it was so cold in the restaurant, as was noted by other diners around us. Not sure why, but it was completely unnecessary. Our waitress (we later learned she was also the bartender) took our order (3 soft drinks, some corn nuggets, and 3 meals), and brought the drinks out quickly. As she was leaving, one of our party knocked over their drink -- and you know how big the cups are! The waitress said she'd be back with a towel, then disappeared. I saw her go into the kitchen, then come out and go to the bar where she began taking orders and serving people. I was dumbfounded. We did our best to wipe up the spill and ice, using the paper towels at the table, but we had a huge wet pile sitting there. After about 5 minutes another server came by and we asked for towels, telling her our server never came back. That new server came back with a tray for the ice and mess, as well as a wet towel to wipe the table down. It was probably another 7 minutes before our server returned, this time with a replacement drink and then plopped the corn nuggets down and walked away. That was it... and the nuggets didn't have the little skewers nor the powdered sugar. About 10 minutes later the meals came (from a different server), and my chopped brisket sandwich wasn't cold, but it was barely warm, and a bit grizzly. We kept wondering if this was a brand new location and the staff just weren't properly trained, but when I asked another server later how long they'd been open, she told me 2 years! We barely saw our waitress -- and yes, I understand team style service, but this was just weird. I actually wondered if it was my FSU shirt as we were in Bulldog territory, but regardless, I've never had such poor service at a Sonny's. Management, you need to look into this and see what was happening and why we received such poor treatment. The rest of the staff treated us well... maybe having a bartender cover tables in the dining room is too much?
