On our way up to NC on 11/7 and stayed the night nearby. We were excited to see a Sonny's so close and headed there for dinner. We loved the new look and were seated quickly on for a Friday night. The hostess was super friendly, as were other staff we encountered later. The rest of our experience was surreal to say the least. To start, it was so cold in the restaurant, as was noted by other diners around us. Not sure why, but it was completely unnecessary. Our waitress (we later learned she was also the bartender) took our order (3 soft drinks, some corn nuggets, and 3 meals), and brought the drinks out quickly. As she was leaving, one of our party knocked over their drink -- and you know how big the cups are! The waitress said she'd be back with a towel, then disappeared. I saw her go into the kitchen, then come out and go to the bar where she began taking orders and serving people. I was dumbfounded. We did our best to wipe up the spill and ice, using the paper towels at the table, but we had a huge wet pile sitting there. After about 5 minutes another server came by and we asked for towels, telling her our server never came back. That new server came back with a tray for the ice and mess, as well as a wet towel to wipe the table down. It was probably another 7 minutes before our server returned, this time with a replacement drink and then plopped the corn nuggets down and walked away. That was it... and the nuggets didn't have the little skewers nor the powdered sugar. About 10 minutes later the meals came (from a different server), and my chopped brisket sandwich wasn't cold, but it was barely warm, and a bit grizzly. We kept wondering if this was a brand new location and the staff just weren't properly trained, but when I asked another server later how long they'd been open, she told me 2 years! We barely saw our waitress -- and yes, I understand team style service, but this was just weird. I actually wondered if it was my FSU shirt as we were in Bulldog territory, but regardless, I've never had such poor service at a Sonny's. Management, you need to look into this and see what was happening and why we received such poor treatment. The rest of the staff treated us well... maybe having a bartender cover tables in the dining room is too much? read more

We passed a few Sonnys' Barbecue on the drive back from Orlando and decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about. We are so glad we did. My husband had the ribs and dark meat chicken I had the ribs with smoked wings, both had sweet potatoes . Him baked beans and me green beans. Everything was delicious, however the ribs were barbecued to perfection smoked flavor thru and thru with just the right bite. Contest winning ribs. And the sweet potatoes tasted like they were slow roasted over hot coals which brought out there natural sugars a true delight. Our compliments to the chef. The waitress was courteous and friendly and service was fast. We will visit again when we come back thru Macon. read more

Since my last review my experiences have been so much better. I no longer order the garlic toast as I have found the cornbread to be delightful. I didn't know they had sweet jiffy. I always do double BBQ baked beans as sides. The chicken I got last time was really good. And I was most appreciative of the smoked wings I received as a free birthday treat which were baked well done as requested. Today is Guest Appreciation Day and the rib dinner is 10.99. I used 300 points and got a sweet tea also. All is delish! Thank you!!! read more

Family member who wasn't me was served a chicken breast with half the breast cut off. Manager Adam Martin came out with another chicken but told us all the breasts are the same exact size over and over. It was obviously small as hell due to being miscut and he was being petty. I eat here once or twice a week and won't be back. read more

Food was amazing. I tend to like Carolina sauce so I tried their Carolina sandwich- I wasn't disappointed! And though I knew it was too much I had to try their Florida's citrus wings because I'd never had them. Let me tell you- worth worth worth it! Our service was spot on. We walked in just as they had opened. Seated right away and waitress came up immediately. I only got a little sass for ordering unsweetened tea ;)- I would have been disappointed if not haha. Service was excellent. The restaurant was very clean. The bar looked nice though we didn't partake. Don't miss this location. P.S. there was another review here that mentioned ogres. Not sure how I feel about this experience. Definitely mixed. Staff was friendly. Restaurant was clean and good decor. A little noisy, so person taking my order had difficulty hearing me (and I her) so she got my name wrong, which caused a delay. I got wings and mac & cheese. The wings were REALLY good - except a couple of them were smaller than the others so were overcooked and not edible. I see this as a quality control thing that could be improved. The wing sauces were great. I've been to a lot of BBQ spots and seldom find that I like more than one or two of the sauces. These were all good. Mac & cheese tasted good but the serving size was a bit small and it didn't look as good as the photo on the website. read more

Oh how I love Sonny's, but this spot? Major no. The food is okay, but the attitudes are straight-up nasty. Honestly, the lady taking orders is totally sweet, and that's why we were down to tip her. But that little ogre they've got chilling in the back? Yeah, they definitely should've kept it in the back. So like this kind lady was taking our order, right? And then this ogre rolls up and is all like, "Why are there two orders for Angelo?" Like, excuse me? My aunt's name is Angela, and she's a whole woman, first of all and secondly you shouldn't interrupt people who do their jobs without all that extra sass. So yeah the thing started sliding the window once it figured out we could hear, and from that moment, we totally felt a bad vibe coming off it. So after we paid we gave a tip to the sweet lady taking our order and moved on to the next window. (that's when we was met with that NASTY having attitude thing that I think is roleplaying as a woman I'm not sure) Anyway, we waited for our food, and when they finally brought it out, my aunt was about to ask for some sauce and stuff, but that homosexual rudely cut her off, saying "it's in the bag" while doing this dramatic hand flip.... So there I was, just chilling as the passenger, trying to keep it classy in public and not let my intrusive thoughts win. I held it together while she was checking the bag and that's when she realized she was missing two things.. so yes you might be like, "It's just two items," and yeah, that's true but if I'm paying over a hundred dollars on some takeout to avoid cooking, I better be getting my money's worth. So we were just waiting by the window, trying to get the attention of the ladies and the ogre in the back. You could see them giving us the side-eye, so no doubt they knew we were still there. We decided to loop around again to check if that nice lady was at the first window, but there were cars and the line was getting packed, so we just went back to the second window. We were totally ok waiting in that line for our sweet potato and corn muffins we paid for while holding up their other business because you don't mess with people's hard-earned money in this economy. So anyways we were really hoping for one of the real women to come to the window but unfortunately, the cosplayer rolled up with a potato before we could even say we were missing anything. So that devil obviously knew we were short a few items. We expected it to be a sweet potato because that's what we ordered so we didn't immediately check, but nah, it was just a basic old white potato. And get this, it was super old one at that. Major disappointment so the moral of the story or my warning to anyone who eats here If you spot dudes with nails and funky short hair on the clock, just know you're in for some major bad attitudes and service that's totally uncalled for. Great food and great service. The wait time was to be expected on a Sunday after church, but the reason this review didn't get a 5 star was the seating. The hostess proceeded to walk my party to the table, only to see it was dirty and hadn't been cleaned or set yet. We were standing in the isle, mind you it was a very busy Sunday, so all the servers were having to reroute due to us in their way. Food: I ordered the Sonny Platter that included 2 sides (Mac n cheese and tater tots), 4 choices of meat (I chose the ribs, sliced pork, brisket, and the 1/4 chicken. Everything was delicious on the platter, except the sad piece of garlic toast which was soggy and flat. It had looked like someone had put it in between their hands and smashed it. The sweet tea was great, also worth noting is the size of their drink cups! I mean you def won't need a refill or in some cases maybe 1 other refill at most because how many ounces it contains. Also worth mentioning, their ranch was great! Nothing worse than a runny/watery ranch, and Sonny's was nothing close. Price: price point was great, if you're looking to try a little of everything, stick with the Sonny Platter, the other option was the mix and match which starts at a base price of around $15, but certain meats are an up charge of either $2-$3 (I believe this was for the brisket and the ribs) so at that point you're already paying for a Sonny platter which already includes brisket and ribs. read more

While it's a chain, it's still great food. Only bbq on this side of town. They're packed at lunch so there could be a wait.

We arrived on a Sunday evening approximately 7:45. There were already three couples ahead of us waiting to be seated. We were all seated fairly promptly. When our waitress arrived we ordered canned Michelob beer. They were out of it, so we ordered diet coke. We both ordered a pulled pork plate. They were out of pulled pork. They were out of baked sweet potatoes. So we ordered ribs, baked beans, slaw, and garlic bread. After approximately 45 minutes our food was served with plastic utensils. I asked for real silverware and was told that she didn't think they had any clean silverware. Eventually we were brought silverware. My husband asked for a refill on his drink. He had to ask twice before it was received. We asked for our garlic bread twice. We finally received the bread with our bill. Maybe if one of these things happened, it could be overlooked. However, there were too many issues that went wrong. Other patrons there that we spoke with were having the same problems. We will not return, and cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

It sucked 10 years ago and when they built a new one, I thought things had changed. How the frak this place is still serving food is beyond me. I wish I could tell you how it tasted but after a 35 minute wait - at the "bar" where you usually get food quicker, I gave up. 35 minutes for a pulled pork sandwich? From a place that has to continually pump out pulled pork and sliced pork for numerous plates?Hey at least my server was checking and saying it was still "almost ready". The tea was nice. Sonny BBQ, was awful we ordered wings(was great, but a little pricey for 8@14.99) baby back ribs didn't have any meat on them(the sauce hid this), St Louis seemed to be cooked to long which made them taste like the day before warmed in the microwave. The service was horrible. We we're seated and while they were not busy, three wait staff walked around. We sat there for at least 10 minutes and while one person stopped to ask if anyone had waited on us, we said no, then she responded oh I will but proceeded to wait on other tables. We finally left. The Hostess could not have cared less that no one waited on us. I'll stick to Fresh Air for sure. read more
