Walked in and the sign said if you are eating in have a seat so we did. A man came out of the kitchen screaming about the dining room was closed waitress said she had the sign up. Only sign we saw was if you dining in seat yourself. We decided to leave because I sure didn't want someone who was pissed fixing our food. I bet him many times I had to go to one on Gary highway I never disappoint but the only one thing I'm disappointed about them there or something for soul food joint then no Cell no macaroni and cheese and when I first came out here and I tried them back in 218 2018 and I went to the other ones on Houston Street and I just can't get over the fact that's that a finches barbecue have no macaroni and cheese. I never heard that like that before in my whole entire life and I've been to Philadelphia Boston, Baltimore, the soul food joints they have macaroni and cheese get wet finches, but I still go there. Today April 17th my wife and I drove to finchers on Hartley bridge road, went to the drive-thru The young lady was very pretty but didn't have the personality of a snake. Ordered a pound and a half of barbecue came to about 17 something got home and it was as dry as dry could be I had to add ketchup and water to it just for it to spread on the bun. Nope I don't think we'll be going back to finchers anytime soon. read more

I went here for breakfast, the drive thru line moved fairly slow, and took about 7-10 minutes to process through with 3 cars ahead of me, but was greeted by a very friendly lady. I ordered the sausage egg biscuit and asked for a bacon egg biscuit (they only gave me a bacon biscuit with no eggs). Everything tasted great, the portions were larger than expected and biscuits certainly appeared and tasted home made. The spicy sauce was incredible. I have been enjoying this barbecue for a couple years now, but never went inside until today. I made the mistake of visiting the bathroom and it was completely disgusting. I was willing to let the interior go on its own even though it also needed cleaning. But when I went into the restroom and saw the filth in there, I knew I would never be back. I've been going to all of the Fincher's locations for years, decades actually. This location is ok but my least favorite. It just is not as reliable as the other locations, which really does not make sense but that's my experience. IMHO Fincher's barbecue sauce has always been the best in the south. But when we visited this location on Houston Road, the sauce was thinned down and watery. It was more tart than mustardy. I felt let down. But maybe they were just having an off day or they had someone new in the kitchen. We let them know while we were there and they kinda shrugged us off. Prices are horrendous and food quality is sub par. Ribs were ok but the order was so small. Not worth $4 a rib. Chopped sandwich sounds like a decent deal but is awful grinder scraps of other bbq doused in sauce. Tried them for breakfast, (hard to screw up a sausage biscuit) but a side of gravy is $1.62 for a shot glass size cup. Both occasions staff were very rude and unprofessional. This dining experience was just nasty. The food was nasty. The servers attitude was nasty. The crowd that was in there was just odd, the vibe was all wrong. Me and my colleagues came here for lunch and we all felt very unwelcome. The server was purposefully rude to the only person of color in our group and for whatever reason all eyes were on us the whole time we were eating here. My coworker asked for a styrofoam cup instead of the one he was given and she didn't even acknowledge his request. She did however come back and drop a small styrofoam water cup on the table several minutes later, so she clearly heard his request. Aside from the crappy service and clearly racist vibe in this establishment the food was also crap. I ordered the pulled pork plate and I'm not sure what the hell arrived at my table. The pork was in thick strands, it hardly classified as pulled. It contained fat, veins, and all the nasty crap that I prefer not to have to pick off my barbecue before I eat it. On top of all that it was freaking cold. The green beans were also luke warm and flavorless. The best thing on my plate was the toast and French fries. Ordered a pork sandwich and Brunswick stew. $3.50 each. Meat was held on a steam table with an unpleasant sauce dripping from it. Meat was lacking flavor and moisture- hence the need for sauce while holding on the steam table. Place a few ounces of crock pot heavy sauce meat on a 3" weak, cheap bun, and within 60 seconds it is turning into a soggy bread pudding. Nasty sandwich. Weird Worcestercire mustard bbq sauce, too much white vinegar- unpleasant. Brunswick was a meat smoothie with corn and diced tomato added. Baby food smooth- couldn't stomach it. The bbq sauce couldn't help. Run away. Even the chains have better cue. read more

No frills bbq joint with quick and friendly service. Not a huge menu, the brisket was ok not a ton of flavor, and the fries were mediocre at best. My fiancé had the pulled pork sandwich and said it too was ok. Overall if you want something quick and fairly cheap to fill you up this will do the trick. read more

For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the window and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, then this isn't it... but it is a cousin to it. What this is, by comparison, the "newer" of the Fincher barbecue joints in Macon. Barbecue in Macon is, almost by definition, Fincher's. This Fincher's has been in what likely was a former hamburger drive-in, for 15 years - decades younger than the now more than 83 year old Fincher's across town - which, by the way is in a bad neighborhood, does have bars on the windows and also some great barbecue. As someone who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read 105 other Yelp barbecue reviews), ambiance plays its part - either detracting from a good meal or helping make a good plate an all the more enjoyable experience. Used to be a place in Chicago (Carson's) that served good barbecue on white linen clothed tables. Just wasn't the same. At this location you're seated (you choose) and a few minutes later someone who likely has been there for a dozen years or so, is there to get your order. Our waitress was Audrey, a walking encyclopedia of all things Fincher and barbecue. This Fincher's, like the others, serves up world class 'cue... the chicken is moist with a nice light smoke flavor. The ribs have a nice bark and are really good, and the pulled pork, seved bathed in sauce, is excellent. Sides included some great Brunswick stew, slaw that had some unusual flavor that neither of us enjoyed, wrinkle fries, obviously frozen and not the world class, hand cut, deep fat fried fries we remember so fondly from the original Fincher's. This Fincher's has one sauce on the table, a light red mustard based sauce that makes the pulled pork and chicken all the better. If yu know to aks for it, they also have a so-called sweet is truly wonderful on ribs. And if you're a t-shirt collector (the Brown Shoe Gourmet has more than 200 from all across the country), they've got them. Folks in Macon know Fincher's and likely patronize one or the other based on proximity; folks traveling to or from Florida with a hunger for some great 'cue would do well to find the original, in all its 83 year old "splendor" and enjoy world class "cue in a real authentic barbecue joint. Desserts? They've got them. The Brown Shoe Gourmet's recommendaton is that you try some of the great bread pudding that long time waitress Audrey makes. When you think about unique, but world class barbecue experiences, for this purist it comes down to Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, Arthur Bryants in Kansas City, McNeely's in Memphis, Anna's in Atlanta and the original Finchers in Macon. read more

I am a sucker for a good bbq joint. I've had Texas style bbq in Atlanta and Texas, amazing bbq in Memphis, Kansas city was great and so on. I wanted to like this place. It is a local staple with history and multiple locations. I read several good reviews. I am now asking myself, what were they thinking? This was the worst bbq I have ever eaten. I ordered a large pull pork sandwich with Coleslaw, a rib dinner with Brunswick stew and slaw. The pull pork had no smoke flavor, full of vinegar sauce and looked like it was cooked in the sauce. The consistency was mushy. The ribs had no flavor, no rub or smoke. They tasted oven baked. A house made bbq sauce would have been great instead of the high fructose vinegar sauces. The Cole slaw was plain, no creativity or taste. I almost ordered the potato salad until I was told it has sour cream in it. Who does that? Needless to say I won't ever ever go back. read more

In the area helping my son move and saw Finchers. I knew BBQ was in my future. We all had the pork sandwich and sides were Cole slaw, fried okra and potato salad. First point is the sides are large. Could easily be shared. I enjoyed the Cole slaw. It was fine chopped and traditional. The potato salad had some bacon in it. My wife wasn't crazy over it. The fried okra was good. Now to the BBQ. It comes sauced up. I really liked the sauce, not much heat and more vinegar than sweet. I loved the balance of the sauce. Overall the sandwich was great and will definitely stop in next time I'm in the area. The service was great. Our waiter was super nice and attentive. As someone with Southern roots (but Southern California and Nevada, not "The South"), I can't say whether or not this is the purist's most authentic ever bar-none Middle Georgia barbecue joint, but it's some of the best I've tried- and a local institution with deep roots in the area. Thanks to the fact that relatives of mine live in Macon, I get to come here whenever I visit them and choose this location over their other restaurants in the area. The basic "Pig Plate" gives you pulled pork barbecue and three sides, the best of which are the Brunswick stew, turnip greens and fried okra. If that sounds too adventurous, there's also cole slaw (great for a sandwich!), corn, string beans or other sides. When they deliver the plate to your table, it doesn't look like a lot of food at first but don't be deceived- it will fill you up without too much trouble, and if not, just ask for another roll or side and that should do it. If you want ribs, they have those, too, along with chicken and other meats in their signature sauce (same side choices) but I've always stuck to the Pig Plate. The first time I was there I was also told I could have a hamburger if I wasn't ready for the 'cue, but one smell of the pork coming out of the kitchen and I was hooked. What's so great about this place besides the food is that it's really a casual, family-run environment. Although they have a drive-through option, go inside and set a spell if you've got the time. The wait staff is helpful and always there to refill drinks or let you know where the restroom is (a little hard to see from the main dining room) and the food is served on those paper plates with 3 sections for different items with plastic forks and such. The food is the star and the casual environment lets it show. If that isn't enough for you, Fincher's BBQ was also taken into space in 1989 on the shuttle Discovery- an astronaut on that flight with ties to the nearby military base chose that as his special meal on that mission. I ordered the two pull pork sandwichs. I don't usually like mustard based BBQ sauce but this was really good. I was impressed with the food, service and serving size. There is nothing better than a Mom n Pop's style restaurant and being a BBQ joint you really have to stand the test of time like Fincher's has done. Ever since a kid growing up in Macon it has always been a Fincher's BBQ for lunch or dinner. There is so much family history here along with the great taste of some of the best BBQ plates around town. I am going to tell a story about Finchers that everyone needs to hear. I 2009 I returned to Middle Ga for my Class Reunion ( Go Demons). My girlfriend flew in from Cincinnati. We were on the way to Macon to get her some stuff . we stopped on Houston Ave, and our waitress was Mrs Finchers I think and her assistant her 4 yrs old Grand daughter. I hald told my G/F that Finchers was the only BBQ to go into space on the shuttle, and when our order came or extremely helpful waitress and her Grand mother sat down and talked to my g/f about Finchers history. Somehow my fries kept vanishing. my waitress was takin some. A lot of Customers would have flipped. I consider it the best dining experience to date I have ever had. and Yes I do go back lots. PS our waitress was simply amazing and she easily surpassed the cuteness grade in customer service. read more

So I'm a Canadian passing through and I here about this place. So happy I came . So I had some BBQ here. And I can't say enough cool things about the food. Have the super pig sandwich. And a cheese burger lol. If you have room have the Brunswick stew it's OMG good. Hell of a compliment to the super pig . Throw in a sweet tea and your good to go. As a northerner, stew connotes chunky ingredients. That is not what we received, but perhaps this is a non-traditional favorite in this part of Georgia. The flavor was also not what I expected either. The bun for the pulled pork sandwich was your typical store bought long shelf life soft bread, and I would have preferred something a bit more resilient to the thin sauce . What was good was the pork itself, and I very much enjoyed the mustard sauce. Wait staff was prompt and friendly, and the prices generally reflect what you get. Typical Georgia style watered down vinegar based bar-b-que sauces, decent enough meat with the usual bland sides. Guess I prefer thicker sweet Texas style sauces and beef brisket over all the pork. Brunswick stew is great. I had the rib plate, with cheesy grits and potato salad. It was all very flavorful and good portions for the price. The kids meals were portioned well for the price. My wife got the BBQ sandwich plate and was disappointed with the portion size. The place is not fancy at all. The dining room was passably clean. Restrooms were clean. No baby changing station in either one. The service was just ok. Not great, not bad. We will be back when in Macon, though it's not worth a trip from far away just to go. I did like the mustard based BBQ and bought a large bottle (about $6.00, not bad at all). Try it out if you're in the area. read more
