This is also one of those reviews where my dining experience was 5 stars in what would appear to be (from outside appearances) a 2-star restaurant BUT IS NOT! The area around this location is poorly maintained (a Hooters across the road is empty and overgrown, and the restaurant next door looks like the roof is about to cave it) but inside Fried Green Tomatoes is a very friendly, customer-focused staff serving some of the best Southern food I've had in a looooooong time! Their chicken is perfect and the tomatoes! I will each three servings of the FGT's next time, no doubt! Do not miss this place. . .they deserve all the business they can get! (Also, just FYI: "two meats" on the menu means FOUR pieces of delicious chicken and you can choose light or dark or a combination of both. . .) UPDATE: I stopped here again two days later for supper and the food was exactly the same quality, but the customer service was even better! Don't miss FGT! read more

Great homemade, southern food served in a cafeteria type line. It's the only place where you can get a full meal and beverage for $8.99 plus tax. You can have two servings of meat for less than $10.00 which includes your beverage. read more

I ain't even trying to lower y'all score because I know I have had better here. I skipped a few weeks coming as they are not conveniently located plus I was trying to give it a break since the food at the holidays was pretty much the same. I went for lunch but didn't get the opportunity to eat it til supper since my sis text once I ordered my plate and wanted to do lunch together. I ordered the turkey wings, dressing, and potato salad. I know a lot of starch but I really wanted to try the potato salad as another reviewer posted it and it looked really good. Well this one wasn't. It was white and not yellow as I had hoped for. I love the mustardy taste in potato salad. It was not seasoned and so bland as was the dressing and turkey wings. The fried green tomatoes were chewy. And I tasted those time I got in the car as I always do. Huge difference!!! I was really shocked. There has got to be a new cook or at least for 1/8/26. This was not the typical seasoning or taste I was used to. I ate my turkey wings so my stomach wouldn't be touching my back and trashed the rest. Maybe I'll have better luck when I return. I'll be switching things up tho when I order. read more

Southern style cafeteria food, all the other reviews are spot on. No frills, just fried chicken and 2 sides in what I guess is a former fast food chain restaurant building. Service was friendly and quick. Food served in styrofoam boxes so easy to take on the go or toss into the trash for quick cleanup and on its way to a future landfill. The hand-written sign in the bathroom warned ladies to not pee on the toilet seat. Which I appreciated and felt like home as we attempt to teach our two little boys the same. Overall, just one of those places that reminds you of "the old times", especially with the aging clientele chatting us up and all smiles to dive into their meals, sharing in the joint joy of a home cooked meal. read more

If you are in "need" of soulful comfort food, pull on over and take a seat. Very reasonably priced for the portion and goodness provided. Not overly salty like many "southern-style" restaurants. They have good selection and unsweetened beverages for those of us using our sugar for the nanner pudding. read more

I love a good cafeteria and this place has some amazing choices. Check out their Facebook to know what's on the menu for the day and I always recommend their fried chicken or the fish. All the veggies are yummy and I love that you can get fried green tomatoes as a bread option. Service is good, sometimes understaffed but the people are still so kind and friendly. Ambiance is calm and laid back because it is a small cafeteria place. For sure come here, worth the time and money. read more

Tired of fast food? Here's a cafeteria-style buffet of deliciousness served with a smile. I had the veggie plate, and it was generous for $7.99. Whoohoo! Collards--perfect Green beans--perfect Fried green tomatoes--perfect (get the homemade sauce) Grits--Lacking/ boring/ tasteless--needs real butter/ whipping cream/ salt Biscuit--OK, according to daughter The ambiance is tired but fine for the price. The service was quick and the line moved quickly, I'll be back! read more

Summary: A fast food restaurant with a cafeteria style format for Southern comfort foods. Fried Green Tomatoes has a revolving menu. A menu board behind the counter tells you what FGT is serving the day you visit. Beyond that, you have four meal options that include different combinations of meat, veggies, and desserts. My choice was two meats, two veggies, drink, and cornbread. All were very good to excellent. Fried chicken: crispy and excellent. Baked pork chop: a bit dry but veggie liquid improved the taste. Collard greens: nicely seasoned and the best I've had in a while--thoroughly cooked to remove the leafy taste and very tender. Green beans were also seasoned well. The cornbread was flaky and sweet. read more

I dont know what the hype is about this place but . The chicken was burnt, Mac and cheese cold and no flavor and the cornbread tasted stale. Maybe it's because I went in a Saturday. read more

Nothing really to write home to but seems like they keep a fairly tight ship. Cleanliness not terrible, enough foot traffic to be hard to tell. Family friendly. Moist chicken, good fry. I was hoping they had the calf liver which I've seen in so many pictures. Was a bit disappointed that it was only fried chicken livers, no smothering onions. No malt vinegar, just white, a little strange. Turnips and cabbage on point. Pictured is livers a La carte, friend chicken meals, lots of food. read more

This is one of those reviews where the stars are based on "what it is" rather than overall restaurant/dining experience. We were traveling and needed to eat but didn't care for chain fast food; found this place through Yelp (thanks!) and decided to try, since we both have a weakness for FGT. Expected it to be a cutesie 'tea room" kind of place but it's very fast-food oriented. Go in to the counter and pick out the items that are in the hot trays, with staff there to help identify items etc. So basically we had a meat-and-three with lots of southern food favorites. Frankly, I thought I reviewed this place right after the trip but guess I didn't, so I've forgotten most of what we had. I do remember fried okra and I'll admit, fried okra that's been in a warming tray is not as good as freshly fried stuff (what is?) but again...for what it was, a quick fast-food type meal ....it was just fine. Fried chicken was fine, mac and cheese gooey and cheesy. Everything was just fine and compared to the regular fast-food fare, well, I give it 5 stars compared to eating another burger-and-fries meal!!!= read more

I absolutely love thos place! Their food is always so delicious. Prices are cheap and they always give you heaping amounts of veggies. The place is huge, but given everything that's going on right now they are only limited to curbside pick up and drive-thru. It was pretty good. I'd visit again if I was in Macon again. My daughter enjoyed the food also.

Was headed to Chipotle when this place caught my eye. Chipotle ended up being out of lettuce, so I doubled back to check FGT out! So glad I did! I was greeted promptly on entry. The ladies on duty were all super friendly. One mentioned that dl today is their first day open and that they had only been open about 30min prior to my arrival! I had the 3 vegetable plate which comes with a drink and cornbread. Yeah food was good. The mac and cheese could have been a bit cheesier but it was still good. They have a loyalty card where you can earn a free dessert or salad. I will definitely be back! read more

Southern foods! Hidden gem. Great places to eat and enjoy Towaliga river only 150-200 yards away. Fried green tomatoes is champ. Good vegetables. I used to come over and buy some socks when I was a little boy since same building used to be a general store in 1960's-1970's. Thanks to movie crews that changed after "Fried Green Tomatoes " released in 1991. Advised to reserve early due to few tables and short open hours. read more

My son and I went here on a Sunday afternoon looking for something new and it did not disappoint. The menu is extremely basic but the sides are definitely not. Southern soul food at its best with fried chicken, collards, cabbage, fried green tomatoes, homemade Mac n cheese, corn bread and so much more. The servings are huge, the price is inexpensive and the service was fast and friendly. If you want good southern food, with no frills, stop at this restaurant. The price is reasonable, the service was friendly and it's fast. My daughter found this place when she went to Georgia and made sure that we stopped by here for lunch on our way back home. I am glad we did because we will definitely stop again. Friend chicken was cooked perfectly. They have bbq chicken, which was really good also and not your usual bbq sauce. Vegetables were seasoned correctly, and I love the cornbread and hush puppies. Everything was good. Just stop by, and you will not regret it. Nothing fancy, simple, really good southern food. read more

You have GOT to go here. Some of the best, and I mean best, southern cooking I've ever had. Anywhere. Forget the fact that it's in an old fast food joint building. Forget the fact that it's kinda small and un pretentious. Just get there and eat! Veggies that are seasoned like they ought to be. Fried chicken with just the right amount of crust. We stopped for lunch on New Year's Eve. Several places we checked for Southern food were closed but we are lucky to have stopped here. The fried chicken was really, really good - fresh, hot and delicious. The brown gravy was also very good on the mashed potatoes. The green beans, Coke slaw and hush puppies also standouts. They have a wide selection of meats and sides. The staff was friendly and helpful and prices were very reasonable. We're happy we stopped. read more

This was an amazing find - my husband is from NC and said the collards and fried chicken were best he's had in 15 years. The fried green tomatoes (yummy!!!) were absolutely the best I've had, the flavor in the breading and the sauce for the tomatoes made my mouth water for more. The hush puppies were big and moist without being too wet, delicious. And all served with a smile. I don't understand the good reviews. My food was awful. The Mac tasted like bland stove top hospital Mac. The collard greens had a weird sweet taste and had a "canned" texture. We needed to make a quick stop for food, and I'm so glad we found this place instead of stopping at a fast food chain. We probably spent about the same amount of time and money for our stop, and got much better food and HUGE portions. The food itself was probably a 4 out of 5, but I think that's bc we came at a slow time between lunch and supper. It's a cafeteria style food line, and we think the food would've been even better if it had just been made. We got country fried steak (x2), fried chicken (x2), mac and cheese (x2), mashed potatoes and gravy (x2), green beans, fried green tomatoes, biscuits, banana pudding, and brownies plus 2 drinks for right at $20!! Desserts were the highlight. The employees were super friendly. Definitely recommend making a stop here if you want some food fast and cheap near the interstate! read more
