This is also one of those reviews where my dining experience was 5 stars in what would appear to be (from outside appearances) a 2-star restaurant BUT IS NOT! The area around this location is poorly maintained (a Hooters across the road is empty and overgrown, and the restaurant next door looks like the roof is about to cave it) but inside Fried Green Tomatoes is a very friendly, customer-focused staff serving some of the best Southern food I've had in a looooooong time! Their chicken is perfect and the tomatoes! I will each three servings of the FGT's next time, no doubt! Do not miss this place. . .they deserve all the business they can get! (Also, just FYI: "two meats" on the menu means FOUR pieces of delicious chicken and you can choose light or dark or a combination of both. . .) I ain't even trying to lower y'all score because I know I have had better here. I skipped a few weeks coming as they are not conveniently located plus I was trying to give it a break since the food at the holidays was pretty much the same. I went for lunch but didn't get the opportunity to eat it til supper since my sis text once I ordered my plate and wanted to do lunch together. I ordered the turkey wings, dressing, and potato salad. I know a lot of starch but I really wanted to try the potato salad as another reviewer posted it and it looked really good. Well this one wasn't. It was white and not yellow as I had hoped for. I love the mustardy taste in potato salad. It was not seasoned and so bland as was the dressing and turkey wings. The fried green tomatoes were chewy. And I tasted those time I got in the car as I always do. Huge difference!!! I was really shocked. There has got to be a new cook or at least for 1/8/26. This was not the typical seasoning or taste I was used to. I ate my turkey wings so my stomach wouldn't be touching my back and trashed the rest. Maybe I'll have better luck when I return. Southern style cafeteria food, all the other reviews are spot on. No frills, just fried chicken and 2 sides in what I guess is a former fast food chain restaurant building. Service was friendly and quick. Food served in styrofoam boxes so easy to take on the go or toss into the trash for quick cleanup and on its way to a future landfill. The hand-written sign in the bathroom warned ladies to not pee on the toilet seat. Which I appreciated and felt like home as we attempt to teach our two little boys the same. Overall, just one of those places that reminds you of "the old times", especially with the aging clientele chatting us up and all smiles to dive into their meals, sharing in the joint joy of a home cooked meal. read more

I love a good cafeteria and this place has some amazing choices. Check out their Facebook to know what's on the menu for the day and I always recommend their fried chicken or the fish. All the veggies are yummy and I love that you can get fried green tomatoes as a bread option. Service is good, sometimes understaffed but the people are still so kind and friendly. Nothing really to write home to but seems like they keep a fairly tight ship. Cleanliness not terrible, enough foot traffic to be hard to tell. Family friendly. Moist chicken, good fry. I was hoping they had the calf liver which I've seen in so many pictures. Was a bit disappointed that it was only fried chicken livers, no smothering onions. This is one of those reviews where the stars are based on "what it is" rather than overall restaurant/dining experience. We were traveling and needed to eat but didn't care for chain fast food; found this place through Yelp (thanks!) and decided to try, since we both have a weakness for FGT. Expected it to be a cutesie 'tea room" kind of place but it's very fast-food oriented. Go in to the counter and pick out the items that are in the hot trays, with staff there to help identify items etc. So basically we had a meat-and-three with lots of southern food favorites. Frankly, I thought I reviewed this place right after the trip but guess I didn't, so I've forgotten most of what we had. I do remember fried okra and I'll admit, fried okra that's been in a warming tray is not as good as freshly fried stuff (what is?) but again...for what it was, a quick fast-food type meal ....it was just fine. Southern foods! Hidden gem. Great places to eat and enjoy Towaliga river only 150-200 yards away. Fried green tomatoes is champ. Good vegetables. I used to come over and buy some socks when I was a little boy since same building used to be a general store in 1960's-1970's. Was headed to Chipotle when this place caught my eye. Chipotle ended up being out of lettuce, so I doubled back to check FGT out! So glad I did! I was greeted promptly on entry. The ladies on duty were all super friendly. One mentioned that dl today is their first day open and that they had only been open about 30min prior to my arrival! I had the 3 vegetable plate which comes with a drink and cornbread. Yeah food was good. The mac and cheese could have been a bit cheesier but it was still good. My son and I went here on a Sunday afternoon looking for something new and it did not disappoint. The menu is extremely basic but the sides are definitely not. This was an amazing find - my husband is from NC and said the collards and fried chicken were best he's had in 15 years. The fried green tomatoes (yummy!!!) were absolutely the best I've had, the flavor in the breading and the sauce for the tomatoes made my mouth water for more. The hush puppies were big and moist without being too wet, delicious. And all served with a smile.
