    Pork chop
    Kelsi H.

We were passing through and came in on a Friday evening around 6:30. It was pretty busy but we (two people) were quickly seated. The biscuits they start you with were PERFECT! Warm, cheesy, savory. Yum! We got the winter harvest salad to split first and it was such a great combo of flavors. I ordered the pork chop and my husband got the shrimp and grits. His entire wasn't your typical bowl of grits with shrimp but it was delicious! Wish we had more grits honestly though. My pork chop was a little dry and needed a little more seasoning. But I loved the fried green tomato and Mac n cheese with it. Overall a good experience. Would be a great date night place or place to hang with some friends for a meal, but not really ideal for small kids. Great service!

We found this lovely, high end restaurant in an historic town square. We chose to enjoy the evening breeze on the front porch. Our server, Courtney was terrific. The food, amazing! We enjoyed chatting with the sous chef, Giordano...felt like we were friends by the end of the evening. Bravo!

    Barramundi YUM!!!!!

Barramundi - Wow!!! Flaky, Light, Crispy on edges and well balanced flavor. What a hidden delightful surprise in Forsyth, GA ( kudos to kitchen for the Lemon sliced expertly for easy squeezing') Not to mention the Grits Fritters - Where have you been all my life ?

Yesterday was my first time actually eating at the Grits Cafe and I was immediately amazed at how amazing it looked inside. I had purchased the ranch burger but my family as a collective got three plates of their fried green tomatoes along with their separate orders. The service was incredible and responsive (we also went in when it wasn't as busy neither, so I think it was also a contributing factor). The ambiance was definitely a family friendly restaurant.

    Grits fritters - delicious!

What an absolute little gem, a perfect lunch break for our long road trip, highly recommend! Luckily the weather held up so we were able to sit outside. The staff was more than thrilled to have us and our little four legged friend. We started with the grits fritters which were very tasty and for lunch I had the salmon BLT and my fiancé had the French dip. The waitress was so friendly and happily allowed us to try some of their soup of the day. She also told us we could substitute the fries for sweet potato fries, or a salad or a soup if we liked. (I went with the Caesar salad which was excellent and I loved how the croutons were also made of grits, how fun). My BLT was great too. The sandwich bread was excellent and I loved the remoulade sauce too. So many amazing options here, it was certainly hard to choose! Our waitress was so super nice, as was everyone working there. Pax was so happy too! He loved the pets from the hard working staff! Before we left, I walked inside to view the ambiance and I'm so bummed we don't live closer, the walls were open brick and aligned with beautiful artwork, I could sit here for hours with a book in my hand!

Service: Our waitress was Armani and she was amazing!!! From the time she came to our table to introduce herself until we paid our bills, she was energetic, continously checked on us, and immediately fixed any issues from the kitchen. If you go, ask to sit in Armani's section. Food: Our table of 5 had mixed reviews on the food. Some thought the wings were good while others thought they were unseasoned other than the sauce on top. We generally enjoyed the Jamaican patties despite the confusion on our "patty flight." We were initially given 2 curry patties and later told it was because they didn't have anymore jerk patties. However, we were later sent a jerk patty, so that was confusing. Entertainment: This is where they lacked and why I wouldn't come back. We arrived at 7:30pm. During the time we were there, there was a boring old school play list and the songs people chose for karaoke. We came for karaoke because we'd been told by the bartender that night gets packed. That's not true, at any given time there weren't anymore than 10 tables with guests. Additionally, management was very strict about what songs could be performed for karaoke and told paying customers we couldn't curse. When I asked about this policy, the manger told me it was the traditional global way to be family friendly. If that's your thing, this would be the place for you but it didn't fit our needs for a girl's night and the women in our group were 35-55. Lastly, the two managers appeared to micromanage every move the servers and bartenders made, it just felt weird.

It just opens the door, turns the lights on, and says, "You hungry or not?" It is designed for food and drink not ambiance. This was one of those spots. The drinks showed up quick enough to make you think they might've already known your order before you sat down. The food was solid in that dependable way--nothing trying to reinvent itself, nothing apologizing for being what it is. Just honest plates doing honest work. Kyle the bartender is a study in modern Southern service industry diplomacy. Not exactly the kind of fellow you'd invite to Thanksgiving, but he kept things moving, kept things correct, and occasionally tried to lace the proceedings with a bit of entertainment--like a man juggling while also reading the room and half the room's thoughts. In the end, it's not a place you'll write home about in glowing, poetic letters. But it is a place you'll walk out of thinking, "Well... that did just fine." And in downtown Macon, that's sometimes all a man really needed in the first place.

We came on a Monday about 8:30 and were seated promptly. We drove out of our way to come since it was my sister's birthday and she was nostalgic about Shoney's and this was the closest one (about an hour away.) Our drinks came right out and we went to the breakfast bar. I was not expecting such a huge selection of food. At least 2 kinds of biscuits, multiple different gravies, breakfast casseroles, hashbrowns, grits, fried bologna, bacon, eggs, sausage patties, sausage links, pancakes, French toast, fried apples, strawberry shortcake, dirty rice, A SALAD BAR that included a fruit selection, fried potatoes, mushrooms, Philly steak, and MORE!!!! Now let's be honest...this is a BUFFET. Some of the food was fresher than others but I saw them replace numerous items during our visit. Nothing tasted off and some food was better than others, but overall, I believe this was a excellent deal for $15/per person. Sharon was our waitress and kept our drinks topped off and plates cleared away. She was a sweetheart and we really appreciated her friendliness. You could tell that the decor, furniture, etc was older but everything was clean and seemed to be in good repair. Even the bathrooms were fresh and clean. Overall, we were very happy with our visit and plan on returning when we're in the area.

This one opens before sunrise and since I wanted to get back on the road early we thought we'd give them a try, it's easy and no mess in the RV, my fingers were crossed hoping it was how I remembered. We arrived about 7 AM and there were only a few customers in the restaurant browsing the breakfast buffet that was filled to the brim - honestly I thought it was a little overkill but as time passed this place looked like Walmart on Black Friday all looking for a bargain and indulgence. The staff here was on their game the kitchen was delivering pans of everything and refreshing whatever looked like it sat a little longer than it should - Wanda our wonderful server greeted us just as we were seated and dashed to get our drink orders while we took a tour of the foods on display. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to breakfast so I was looking for a mound of bacon, scrambled eggs and anything else that looked appetizing I'd consider a bonus. Honestly for $50 including gratitude for two I was a little disappointed with the quality it was a little too intuitional for me, a little bland even with a salt and pepper shaker on the table it just wasn't working. I would of been just as happy with a couple of drive-thru breakfast sandwiches for about one third of the price. I do applaud them for having a full salad bar filled with greens and fruit, nothing bad here just not my thing...

And after enough years pass, a man learns there are only two choices: take the trip or hear about the trip that never happened until the end of time. So we did a thing. The cafe sat there like it had been waiting on us since 1957. The kind of place that reminds you of all those little Southern towns that somehow survive despite progress doing its level best to pave over every memory worth keeping. Inside, the food was everything we'd hoped for and then some. The Bennett Bar-B-Que was worthy of its reputation, the fried green tomatoes were exactly what fried green tomatoes ought to be, and the peach cobbler should probably require a note from your doctor before ordering. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, which is something my grandmother never imagined would be written in a sentence about Southern cooking, but here we are. The wait staff were genuine, quick with a smile, and blessed with that rare Southern talent of making you feel like a regular customer even when they know full well they've never seen you before in their lives. The atmosphere smelled of coffee, history, laughter, and a thousand conversations that probably started with, "Y'all ain't gonna believe what happened..." Naturally, after lunch we had to walk around town. Partly because that's what you're supposed to do in a place like that, and partly because the peach cobbler had shifted our center of gravity. We wandered the streets, admired the old buildings, and soaked in the kind of small-town Southern charm that doesn't come from a committee meeting or a tourism brochure. It comes from years of people living their lives in the same place and caring enough not to ruin it. Sometimes life doesn't require a grand adventure. Sometimes all it takes is listening to your wife, driving down a country road, eating too much cobbler, and spending an afternoon in a town that reminds you where you came from. And that's a pretty good day.

Whistle Stop Café…read more Today we visited the iconic Whistle Stop Café in Juliette, Georgia, the town made famous by the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The drive from Social Circle takes less than an hour, but once you arrive it feels like you've stepped into another era. Juliette is a tiny town with only a handful of buildings, many of them antique stores, gift shops, and historic structures. The railroad still runs directly through town, and trains remain very much a part of daily life. The café opens at 11:00 a.m., and it was immediately obvious that this is a popular destination. We signed the waiting list at 11:47 a.m. and were seated around 1:30 p.m. Even more impressive, when we left around 3:00 p.m., there were still approximately a dozen groups waiting for tables. Considering the restaurant is only open Thursday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., that says a lot about its popularity. Fortunately, waiting in Juliette is part of the experience. During the wait, we explored the town, visited the shops, and watched four trains roll through on the tracks beside the restaurant. Around here, wait times can almost be measured in trains instead of minutes. Juliette itself is worth exploring. The old mill building still stands beside the railroad tracks and serves as a reminder of the town's history. There are antique stores, souvenir shops, movie memorabilia, the Juliette Opry stage, a small courthouse building, and even a decorative outhouse humorously labeled "Juliette Police Department." One old pickup truck parked in town featured a skeleton behind the wheel, creating one of the more memorable photo opportunities of the day. Inside, the Whistle Stop Café feels exactly like the kind of place you hope to find in a town like this. Historic photographs, vintage signs, railroad memorabilia, and Fried Green Tomatoes movie memorabilia cover the walls. Nothing feels manufactured or staged. It feels authentic, comfortable, and connected to the history of both the town and the film. Our server, Chris, was friendly, attentive, and welcoming despite the busy dining room. One of the more interesting details involved the booth where we were seated. According to the story shared at the restaurant, the booth is associated with one of the memorable scenes from Fried Green Tomatoes, including the famous barbecue discussion and the line, "That's the best barbecue I ever had." For lunch, I ordered the blackened catfish special. Alongside it were collard greens, cornbread, and one of the most unusual side dishes I've encountered in quite some time: Brussels sprouts prepared with cinnamon and brown sugar. It may sound unusual, but the sweet and savory combination worked surprisingly well and made the Brussels sprouts one of the most memorable parts of the meal. The homemade lemonade fit perfectly with the Southern atmosphere of the restaurant. The café had temporarily run out and was making a fresh batch while we were there. We also learned that the popular seven-layer lemon cake had already sold out for the day, which wasn't surprising considering the crowds. What makes Whistle Stop Café special is that the experience extends far beyond the food. The active railroad, the historic buildings, the movie connections, the quirky attractions, and the welcoming atmosphere all combine to create something unique. This is not simply a restaurant. It is a destination. Between the trains, the historic town, the movie memorabilia, the old mill, the skeleton in the truck, the packed dining room, and the Southern atmosphere, we ended up spending much of the afternoon exploring Juliette rather than simply stopping for lunch. The food was good, the service was friendly, and the setting was unlike anywhere else we've visited. Sometimes a restaurant review is mostly about the meal. In this case, it was just as much about the experience. And if you're wondering about the wait time, the answer is simple: Four trains. Whistle Stop Café 443 McCrackin Street Juliette, GA 31046
