This is more of a 4.5 review but I really wanted to try to bring up their rating since I feel like the 2.5 is really low, especially after our experience here. We came on a Monday about 8:30 and were seated promptly. We drove out of our way to come since it was my sister's birthday and she was nostalgic about Shoney's and this was the closest one (about an hour away.) Our drinks came right out and we went to the breakfast bar. I was not expecting such a huge selection of food. At least 2 kinds of biscuits, multiple different gravies, breakfast casseroles, hashbrowns, grits, fried bologna, bacon, eggs, sausage patties, sausage links, pancakes, French toast, fried apples, strawberry shortcake, dirty rice, A SALAD BAR that included a fruit selection, fried potatoes, mushrooms, Philly steak, and MORE!!!! Now let's be honest...this is a BUFFET. Some of the food was fresher than others but I saw them replace numerous items during our visit. Nothing tasted off and some food was better than others, but overall, I believe this was a excellent deal for $15/per person. Sharon was our waitress and kept our drinks topped off and plates cleared away. She was a sweetheart and we really appreciated her friendliness. You could tell that the decor, furniture, etc was older but everything was clean and seemed to be in good repair. Even the bathrooms were fresh and clean. My dad couldn't pass a Shoney's back in the day, I don't know if it was the value or the quality, but I haven't been to a Shoney's in decades so I thought I'd go down memory lane when the opportunity presented itself while staying overnight at the KOA in Forsyth. This one opens before sunrise and since I wanted to get back on the road early we thought we'd give them a try, it's easy and no mess in the RV, my fingers were crossed hoping it was how I remembered. We arrived about 7 AM and there were only a few customers in the restaurant browsing the breakfast buffet that was filled to the brim - honestly I thought it was a little overkill but as time passed this place looked like Walmart on Black Friday all looking for a bargain and indulgence. The staff here was on their game the kitchen was delivering pans of everything and refreshing whatever looked like it sat a little longer than it should - Wanda our wonderful server greeted us just as we were seated and dashed to get our drink orders while we took a tour of the foods on display. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to breakfast so I was looking for a mound of bacon, scrambled eggs and anything else that looked appetizing I'd consider a bonus. Honestly for $50 including gratitude for two I was a little disappointed with the quality it was a little too intuitional for me, a little bland even with a salt and pepper shaker on the table it just wasn't working. I would of been just as happy with a couple of drive-thru breakfast sandwiches for about one third of the price. I drove 400 miles and planned to eat dinner at Shoney's . Got there at 7:40 pm . All I wanted was a good salad . They said they closed at 8:00 pm but the doors were locked . They need to specify when they say they close at 8pm , they really mean 7pm you will not get served . Don't say you close at 8 but lock your doors at 7 or 7:30. Would have stopped earlier to Golden Corral . Now I'm back tracking after a long day and not very happy about it . read more

Corned beef was cold and greasy. Eggs dried and tasted like powder cooked for a long time. Bacon was hard, sausage was cold. Only thing that taste good was the grits. Even strawberries had a very weird taste to it. Very disappointed first time I've been here in four years and the overall experience this place went down hill with the service. The price for breakfast is unreal considering what they have offer on the bar and drinks as well. The ambiance is somewhat noisy from the staff, customers talking to each other and eating. read more

Shoney's was affordable, but the experience was just okay. The food was fine but nothing special, and the restaurant wasn't as clean as I would have liked. I wasn't big on the Christian music that was playing, but that's just me. Overall it's a decent spot if you're on a budget, but don't expect much. read more

I expected a decent buffet for $17/person, but instead had the worst food I can remember. The coconut shrimp were burnt, the popcorn shrimp were all bread. I tried some green beans that tasted like warm water. The seafood salad had a very rubbery feel to it. Even the salad bar tasted 'off'' like the vegetables weren't washed properly. I tried to make a meal from hush puppies and cold fruit, but realized that my 'meal' wasn't staying down. I got sick, paid the bill and left. Never again. The staff was nice. read more

This particular Shoney's is located just off of the highway. It also has a hotel right behind it, which I am sure brings it in some business. Overall, Shoney's is a long established business and while the menu does not stray far from the safe and usual diner options, it does it okay enough. All in all, I will give it three stars. read more

Lemons on bar had black/ green mold, Cole slaw was soured (after I said something they did remove from bar), salmon was not even hot, biscuits were old and hard. The lemons looked like someone had been sucking on them. The windows were so dirty with hand prints and filth you couldn't see out of them. Bathroom trash was overflowing and when I went into the stall the cashier was coming out.....she didn't see the trash on the floor or she didn't care. I debated whether or not to write this review because I have such nostalgic memories of Shoney's from my childhood. The amazing all you can eat buffets and great desserts, still live rent free in my mind. And while I knew things have changed over the decades, I never imagined they turned so bad. I had not been to a Shoneys in forever, but as we were travelling home, and we're hungry and they offered a buffet option (during COVID-19 no less) So we stopped in. We were not disappointed, the buffet was set for Lunch and that meant Italian, Mexican and fried chicken along with soup and salad fixings, bread and drinks. Honestly, the chicken was good! Excellent atmosphere, southern hospitality, delicious food, reasonable prices, family owned. My family and I highly recommend this restaurant. The food and service were outstanding. We stopped on the way to Florida. Everything was delicious, especially those Georgia peaches on the salad bar. When we asked for water to go with lemon they gave us a nice sized carry out glass of it. We will be stopping here again as we travel back and forth. read more

We visit Shoney's several times a year. The food is pretty good but not quite as good as it used to be. However that is not my reason for giving it three stars. I don't like the way they collect payment and tips at the end of the meal. Most restaurants give you a bill and a copy of the bill. One of them is where you write in how much you want to give for the tip unless, of course, you are leaving cash on the table. We always use a credit card for the meal and the tip. However, at Shoney's you only get one part of the bill, not the one where you can enter the tip. So you go to the person up front to pay. She asks you if you want to leave a tip, then how much in front of other people. This is embarrasing, especially if the service was not good. Maybe this policy is only at our near-by Shoney's. Shoney's was once a restaurant that could be found in just about every city/town in Georgia. Over time, a lot of Shoney's locations closed down with only a few faithful few that still remain. The Shoney's in Forsyth, GA is one of those faithful few. This Shoney's is located right off of I-75. There were eight of us in our party, so we had to wait a few minutes for a worker to make space for all of us. After about 5-6 minutes, we were led to a private area in the back. Our waitress took our drink orders, and asked if we were eating from the buffet or ordering from the menu. We all decided that we would do a buffet lunch. After I saw the buffet, I thought maybe I should have ordered from the menu. Don't get me wrong, the food looked good, and it was good, but it was not enough options. The buffet had fried chicken, fried fish, cut sausage links, pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, corn, greens, green beans, lima beans, macaroni and cheese, okra and tomatoes. It also had a salad bar, some fresh fruit, and corn muffins. It's a good enough buffet, but I guess I am a little spoiled by another buffet franchise restaurant that starts with a G and ends with a L. Despite the limited choices, I was able to fill my belly. Our waitress was good, and kept our cups refilled. She was just a little slow about clearing away the dishes. All in all, even though the food and service were good, I don't see myself returning to this location anytime in the near future unless fate brings me here. I live an hour and a half away! read more

Terrible service. We arrived just before 8:00 PM and we were told at 8:30 they were closing at 9:00 and shutting down the food bar that 3 of 8 of us ordered and they took away all the food. Then we were told no other food was available I was going to order desert for 7 people and did not. When I left I was asked how service was and I told them our experience . She said oh well Sorry! I have never been treated this rudely EVER in a restaurant. I cannot say enough about how everyone was more interested in kicking us out than treating us like customers. If they would have given me the owners of managers number I would have called them. read more

After working on the road for some time this was the first hot meal I've had in well over a week and it did not disappoint. The buffet had a huge selection and the food was fresh and cooked like it was to order. The cold food was cold and the hot food was hot. Everything was fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. I went in after the rush and nothing ran out or sat out longer than it should. As a former food and beverage guy I'm kind of leery about buffets but this was perfect. A very pleasant surprise for a tired traveler! I have some pretty basic criteria for a restaurant: is the food hot and tasty? Is the service fast and welcoming? This Shoney's met those criteria easily with their hot buffet, and as a cherry on the top, it was under less than ideal circumstances. 8:45pm on a Saturday night. Not a crowded place around that time. But the buffet? Hot and fresh, and we watched as ordered entrees came out of the kitchen fast and with a smile. We were there on the seafood theme night, and while the food is by no means out of the ordinary in terms of selection, it was plentiful and fresh. I especially noted the lettuce on the salad bar. After the dinner rush, I'd expect it to be a bit wilty or brown. Not the case here. It was green, freshly washed, and well-stocked. The seasoning was pretty light on the entrees and vegetables, but I don't mind adding salt and pepper, which is better than wishing you could take a bit of seasoning away. The dining room was very clean, which is a good sign that the restaurant personnel care about the place they are presenting to their customers. The bathrooms could have used some help in terms of cleanliness and supplies, but nothing that would hinder me from returning. I'm very glad we stopped at this remote restaurant off the highway, and I'd certainly stop again. read more

It's one staff member that makes it look bad for the company. That person happens to be the old AA lady with no teeth she was rude as soon as I walked in. My waiter was very nice the girl with the birthmark on her face and so was the hostess both very pleasant , however the old lady with no teeth kept inserting herself when not needed & making rude comments. She then got upset because I began to ignore her and not feed into her ignorance and started yelling causing a scene I will never attend this location ever!!! read more
