Passing through Macon I remembered there was a Mellow Mushroom pretty much right off the interstate so being sick of burgers decided to stop there for lunch. We arrived during a busy lunch hour and I was afraid a hoped for 45 minute stop would turn into at least double that. There was a table for 20 opposite us which raised my anxiety level considerably. As a big surprise, the hostess came over and took our drink and pizza orders and did a great job looking after us. I've been to many Mellow Mushroom locations over the years and have always enjoyed their pizza. Today was no exception. We ordered a half sausage and half green pepper which arrived pretty quickly. I love the crust as well while my wife concentrates more on the pizza so extra crust for me! Forty seven minutes from entry to exit and that included waiting for to go sodas for the road. The restaurant was clean and organized and the staff was very friendly. Although I missed happy hr today, I still had a good visit. If you're a happy hr person, be sure to dine in between 2pm-6pm. This was our first time at the Mellow Mushroom in Macon. The food was very good and our experience was overall nice. Giving 3 stars because of service. Our waitress was nice, but the service was off. Examples, My fiancé ordered a Corona and was brought an unopened bottle... we waited awhile thinking she would come back to open it but she didn't. Eventually he used his keys. We ordered the wings to share (myself, our daughter and my fiancé). She brought the wings out with no plates or napkins. I requested them, she said okay but never came back.. eventually we asked someone else & they brought them.... However We had already finished the wings by then. My fiancé ordered another beer and after about 10'mins another waitress brought it over... I'm not sure if our waitress kept forgetting about us or what. The restaurant was almost empty with the exception of one other couple when we came into but food came out super slow. By the time we left they were packed. There was good music so I guess that made the wait not so bad. We ordered a brownie sundae for dessert after like 3 minutes she came by and said it would be about 3-5 more minutes. 15 more minutes passed and we were about to say forget it and someone walked up with the sundae. Katlyn was our server tonight. So mad I left without getting the managers name ... she should NOT be a manager! We sat there for an hour and never received a pizza but she told us we would not be charged for it! Hahahaha! Why would we? Then, she said well you didn't wait an hour... it was 56 minutes since your first beer. My husband waited 5-7 minutes for that. Guess we were lucky to have gotten the salad and wings!?! It's a pizza! I'll give this place credit...the food is great. It's like all the other Mellow Mushrooms on the planet as far as food quality and taste goes. It's always very good so hats off the the kitchen staff. It's either I don't get all of the food my wife has ordered or I get the wrong food. 1st time - I paid $8.99 for a side salad, they handed me a large bag and said everything was in there. get home...missing a salad 2nd time - I ordered a sandwich, they hand me a large bag, tell me it's been checked and good to go, i get home and there a salad where my sandwich should be...i guess they felt like they were making up for the first time in some odd way. 3rd time - missing a whole pizza?!? I missed the text my wife sent me telling me what she ordered but the Mellow Mushroom knew because they charged me for it. What's bad is you have 5 or 6 employees standing there literally doing nothing. At least one could check the order before they give it to the customer. Always been a big Mellow Fan and the Great White or Gourmet White from my days working back at Mellow in Jacksonville over ten years ago has always been my go to pizza to order. This is an ok pizza place. I have been a few times. The past few times I have been we have had a weird, forgetful waiter, but today she was very kind. The pretzel bites and pizza bites were good as appetizers. The Chef Salad was good as well. 2 people in my party of 8 had burnt pizza. They sent it back and the kitchen staff sent it back 10' minutes later. The Kids Pretzel is like a long stick. They didn't even try to make it the pretzel shape. They were unimpressed that we showed up at 9pm on a Friday night (they don't close until 10pm) and the place was packed. Chef on the line looked at us and shook his head the second we were inside the door. Hostess was not friendly. Didn't say hello, didn't say a word just grabbed the menus and started walking...... I am not sure why this place got such bad reviews. After 4 hours of driving, we were very happy with the service. It was not super busy, so that may have been a continuing factor. Travelled with our pet, so we asked for outside seating. It was perfect. Being seated outside meant that the bar tender had to wait on us. I was a bit concerned since I knew he would be pretty busy. He actually did an amazing job and even bro it out bet a bowl of water. He was a 5-star server. After a week of chasing storms, eating at tiny diners, my team needed a good meal. One of us had been to a Mellow Mushroom before and recommended it. Seeing a free app for checking in and the deep draft beer selection sold it for me. As I was curious about the brews from local Georgia breweries (which I'll review separately) our server gave me samples before I ordered. The cheese bread was delicious and if a less squeamish eater among us wasn't there we'd have tried the version with the the three olive tapenade. When our Magical Mystery Tour arrived it blew my socks off. The jalapenos gave a nice amount of heat to the earthy mushrooms and pesto. The crust was hearty, chewy, and had a beautiful texture.
