One of the yummiest pizza places in Macon. My date & I got the pretzel bites as an app, and the beer cheese that comes with it was delicious. We never had to ask for refills, our food was delivered to our table very quickly, and I enjoyed the chill atmosphere very much. They also played great music. I got the white pizza with thin crust- YUM!! My date got one of the calzones and he was only able to eat half (it's huge), so it's enough for 2 meals, or if you want to save $$ you can split it with someone. In the past, I would have given 4 or 5 stars, but not after my experience tonight. After being seated, we sat there totally ignored by waitstaff, several of whom walked past us repeatedly as if our booth were empty and we weren't sitting there with menus in front of us. There were a couple of others who obviously weren't busy but who couldn't be bothered to pay any attention to us or even acknowledge our existence, either. Nor was the place especially busy or crowded, so there was no obvious excuse for any of this. After over 10 minutes of this treatment, we left, went elsewhere, and had a pleasant meal, having been waited on immediately. Whether or not it's worth our time to return Mellow Mushroom in the future is,at the moment, an open question. read more

Dropped into Mellow Mushroom on our way to Savannah, and it was a much, much more pleasurable experience than any fast food could have been (without setting us back too far time-wise on our road trip). We've had Mellow Mushroom too many times to count, so although it's not the best pizza you'll ever have, it's consistently really delicious. And bonus! They have lots of other options if you're just not feelin' pizza. This location is right off of exit 172 on I-75, making it easy enough to hop off and back on to the interstate. It's a stand-alone building located just past the Publix shopping center, so there's more than enough parking. We walked in at 8:00 PM on a Sunday evening, were quickly greeted and seated, and our server got our drink orders quickly. We also started with the bruschetta appetizer since Yelp has a free app promo going on right now! The bread was crispy, and it came with tons of chopped tomatoes, feta, and some awesome balsamic reduction. For dinner, my husband got a side salad and a 10-inch pizza, and I built my own salad (spinach, chicken, candied pecans, chopped apples, avocado). We had more than enough food, and even had half of a small pizza left over for the rest of the drive. Winning! Our server was so nice and really attentive, and the food, as mentioned above, was way beyond any typical "road trip" fare. My husband and I greatly appreciated the check in treat of a free appetizer. We got the portabella mushroom. It was very good. I am a fan of most Mellow Mushroom establishments. I was staying at the hotel across the street so decided to give it a try. I wasn't fond of the crust that much but am giving it four stars because it's a rare find to get vegan pizza and they had it. They use a vegan meltable cheese which is considered one of the top brands. We also got pretzels but I didn't like them that much since it was the same dough used in the pizza. Being accustomed to Chicago pizza, I'm sceptical about pizza from almost anywhere else. We ordered the Maui Wowie pizza & a house salad. The salad was an iceberg mix, much like what you'd find at a grocery store, with 2 slices of tomato. The pizza wasn't bad - good toppings on a crisp, bubbly crust. I would come back for the pizza but it's not anything I'd go out of my way for. The place was fairly empty when we arrived except for the bar. The servers are super nice, the food is consistently good and served fresh and hot. Good menu selection- they have lots of vegetarian and gluten free choices too. Hubby loves their calzones, which can get a bit pricey but are so huge they could feed a small country (or just my husband). Visited on 4th of July weekend. Let me start by saying that I've been to many Mellow Mushroom locations before, in and out of my own state. There's a baseline that the chain has established. Place looked busy from the outside, but was less than half full when we walked in. We were seated fairly quickly. Ordered in a reasonable amount of time. Our waitress hit the basics, but was not outstanding. The kitchen was loud and obnoxious (open kitchen...not sure if this is a new setup in the more recent builds or not). We waited a good amount of time for our food to show up, but our drinks stayed full. I ordered a Portobello Reuben, which arrived hot, but sloppily assembled. It was good to fine, and all the flavors were in place. My brother and sister-in-law ordered some calzones. Aside from being a tad on the greasy side, crustwise, very solid and full of ingredients and cheese. Appetizing, even. Where they really screwed up was my wife's shrimp po-boy. Holy Cow. I've never seen shrimp overcooked so badly. There's underdone, done, rubbery...and then there were these shrimp. You could say they were rubbery, if the rubber we're talking about exists in a superball. So hard, so unyielding. So bad. They were covered with Cajun seasoning so thick that the one or two she managed to give a chance disgusted her. She tried eating the bread, but the sandwich was a lost cause. Maybe it was the holiday weekend, maybe it was the kitchen staff, but our experience here was not a good one. Why not ask for a refund? I wasn't sure I'd want to meet the manager of this place. It had a significantly rougher vibe than any other restaurant we visited in Macon over the holiday weekend, and they don't have to worry about us rejoining them the next time we come through. I will be honest that it's not my favorite pizza crust but obviously everyone else doesn't agree with me because it's always packed! HE sold this place for us the minute we walked in with his southern charm and hospitality!! I have not eaten at a Mellow Mushroom in years. I remember the original one in Atlanta on Spring Street. It was in an old gas station and probably on had five tables. Man how they have changed. This Macon Mellow Mushroom is huge and the menu is very extensive. I have the steak sandwich on French bread and it was awesome. I also had a Greek salad that was also very good. Finally asked the server how much longer and she mentioned the kitchen was backed up and it'll be 10 mins. Either the kitchen did forget the order the server messed up. Was disappointed when they temporarily shutdown two years ago. Now they are back and as good or maybe better than before. Hot, fresh and tasty - custom changes to pizza menu selection is no problem. Fantastic staff - from the time of entry to the server (Bryant is great), kitchen and management. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to the entire staff. We had a couple "hiccups" on 2 visits but it was dealt with very professionally. We like to request a "lite bake" for our pizza order - perfect! If you don't like garlic base that much you can change-up to a red sauce AND ask that the garlic-butter not be applied to the outside crust edge. The salads .... very, very good. Our family often stops at this Mellow Mushroom to visit family who live in Macon. This is the second time we've happened in on an evening where there is an open mic or karaoke occurring during the dinner rush. Last time we were thankfully on the exterior porch and mostly avoided the loud music inside. Unfortunately it was so hot this evening we were unable to escape outdoors as the music and seeing were very. It really was a bit unbearable and I had a headache when I left from the loud singing. At one point when I was in the restroom another woman came in and complained she was going crazy because the music/singing was too loud. The restaurant has a nice environment like most all MMs. I got the Steak calzone which was pretty good & the Caesar salad was fresh. My kids enjoyed the meatball pizza and a salad as well. It would be nice to visit this place again but I will definitely turn around on the spot to go elsewhere if I hear the singing again. read more
