Dined here once. I do remember ordering the Macon egg roll. It was good but the ingredients inside did not heat up properly so it's like I bit into a hot egg roll to taste cold ingredients on the inside so to speak. The other items we got were good not great also. I always wanted to go back to try something else like a steak but never did. I loved that the chef trained the students there on site..... Excellent restaurant ran by Polly Long Denton School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. The chefs in training prepare a gourmet meal. Seriously our meal tasted on the level of a finer restaurant. The portions were definitely more than enough. Started with a Butter Bibb Salad with shrimp and a lemon basil green gremolota. The ribeye steaks were at least 16 ounces and quality meat. For me enough leftover for a couple of meals. They were cooked just as requested and very tender. The green beans were blanched and cooked with just the right crisp crunch. Hubby had peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert. I took a bite and it was fabulous! Finding this place was like finding a precious and rare gem. Total bill for 2 people was $38.00. A meal elsewhere of this quality would have cost at least twice this amount. Excellent job! It is located on Eisenhower in the same area of the Goodwill. But don't let that stop you from coming. Mark is the host with the most and Chef Gerard didn't disappoint with the pork chop entree I had and steak entree my co worker had. I was a little confused what was going on here when we first went in on the recommendation of Yelp. I'll save you the puzzled looks, it's a culinary school. But don't let that deter you - the food and service are both great - properly cooked gulf shrimp that aren't ceviche or cooked to rubber, and many other surprising dishes on the menu, with impressive sides like prosciutto wrapped asparagus, roasted butternut squash with cranberries, and rich creamy cavatappi pasta. I've dined in there twice and had very bad experience with the food. The first time about a year ago I ordered shrimps and grits and I remember it being unenjoyable. Last week I ate there again. Ordered a western omelet w/o the ham in it and grits and toast. The grits were cool, the toast wasn't fresh and the eggs was like rubber( eggs weren't fluffy as I ordered)and the vegetables inside the omelet was just lying inside and I scrapped them from the folded eggs. The vegetables were very bland. I don't think I will be giving them anymore of my money st all. I really felt like they took my money. read more

Delicious! We are traveling from Ohio to Florida and got lucky enough to have a hotel close to Edgar's. We tried it because we were tired of chain joints. The food is yummy and fresh. This was a wonderful concept providing Macon with a unique dining opportunity. Sure this restaurant has attached to a larger complex but do not let the exterior fool you. The restaurant itself had a warm inviting atmosphere. Service could not be any more attentive. I felt very cared for. The prices of the food however we're not high-end prices. Food quality was top notch and taste was phenomenal. I started out with the macon egg roll which has pork shoulder, collards, and cheese with a sweet jalepeno relish dipping sauce and the flavors were bursting with southern flair. Of course i had to get the shellfish and grits that had a mixture of HUGE gulf shrimp and crayfish. The sauce and grits were perfectly seasoned giving me one of the best meals ive had in macon. Don't let the appearance fool you: Edgar's is consistently our favorite restaurant. Think of it as fine dining comes to Central Georgia. Their portions are perfect and tasty. They also have a tapas menu and an excellent bar. They take reservations, but we've never had difficulty getting in: from the two of us, to the family, to a healthy serving of colleagues, Edgar's has always been able to accommodate us. Even though the food is comparable to other fine dining restaurants, their prices reasonable; two people can easily dine for bout $75, including drinks. Go to Edgar's. You'll like it. read more

This is a lovely bistro, associated with a culinary school in an area, for traveling, which has a deficit of good dining. The menu had a nice variety, and everything we chose was expertly prepared. We had a salad, Macon "egg rolls" and shellfish and grits. The shellfish dish was seriously the best iteration of that dish I have ever had. I opened the refrigerator and there it was staring at me. A head, just sitting there, alone. Obviously a crime had been committed. I looked inside the large stainless refrigerator. It was devoid food, except for the de rigeur martini olives, some goat cheese, a carton of heavy whipping cream that was slowly becoming "heavier", & of course the head...of lettuce. My giant brain deduced, I must have been robbed. Where were the take out containers from previous meals that were once there? I checked the garbage, there they lay discarded & lifeless. "Noooo" I cried! Who would do such a thing? Then I remembered, "he" was arriving today. He, in his neat freak health code ways decided to clean out the fridge, but obviously overlooked the expiration date on the cream. I held my tongue. We were in a rocky patch. His complaint was that I was spending too much time on work, not enough on him. A familiar song, but I was set to make it up to him. Complaining about leftover food would get me nowhere. The only solution would be to dine out. Some place "swoon" worthy. There was a restaurant I had been meaning to pay a visit to, one that would earn me points. Edgar's Bistro was the perfect place & they employ students from Polly's Hospitality Institute. Aspiring chefs looking to hone their craft on my palate, was a crap shoot, but I like to gamble. I had heard the odds were in my favor. Let's just hope I didn't roll a Snake Eyes. I called ahead for a reservation & was in luck. Later that evening as we headed towards Edgar's, he looked puzzled. Weren't we going to Sam's Club? I reassured him we were not dining on samples from food ladies in plastic gloves. Edgar's has a loft like vibe to it. Terra cotta stained concrete floors, hues of blue, gray & green, with modern light fixtures. We both dug the feel, but I was counting on the food bringing the "swoon" and hopefully I'd be hitting the jackpot later. Once seated I looked at the wine and cocktail menu. I was impressed with their selection and full bar offerings. Settling in with a pomegranate Cosmo & Stella Artois we took our time with the menu. There was live music playing outside on the patio, it set a nice backdrop for a leisurely evening. Edgar's is not the place to go if you are in a rush. There is a huge difference between good service and fast service. Expecting fast service when having a lovely dinner is a travesty. Any epicurean worth their salt knows it takes time to create a great dinner and ensure everything is perfect. The yahoos sitting next to us didn't quite seem to grasp that concept. They were having a little too much "whine" with their dinner, causing me cut them off by pulling the drape that was separating our banquette closed. Me-1 point, Yahoos-0 points. It didn't drown out their annoying voices but it did send a clear message for them to speak softly. It also added a romantic quality to the evening. I was duly impressed by the way their young waiter maintained himself. He never flinched or bristled by their incessant demands and was always extremely polite and professional. Back to the menu which can be described as traditional bistro fare with a modern twist. We started with Asparagus Soup and the Sea Scallops. The soup was velvety and nicely seasoned, with the perfect finishing touch of pancetta at the bottom of the bowl. The two sea scallops were on a bed of julienned mushrooms, surrounded with a drizzle of pesto oil & a brown butter sauce. A Heart of Romaine Salad was brought out next. In retrospect I should have opted for the Asian Chopped Salad. The romaine left me a little disappointed. It was JUST fine but blah. The best thing about it was the bit of shaved parmesan that was fried into a crispy wafer. That was the salad's redemption. Narrowing down my entree order was no easy task. A Lamb Rack called to me, as did the Veal Medallions and New York Strip. Being a true carnivore, I felt like Odysseus being tempted by the Sirens. The Veal Medallions won. They arrived sitting on a bed of Tomato Risotto, topped with a hefty pile of Lump Crab Meat and an Avocado Salsa. I made a good choice. He opted for the Florida Prawns. Our waitress made sure to say that they did have the heads on. Five coral beauties were perched on an island of Milanese Risotto, topped with Julienned Mixed Vegetables in a sea of a Tomato Basil Broth. Both presentations were a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. We languished over our meals, enjoying the music and the night. Desserts consisted of a decadent Pot de Crème au Chocolat and Crème Brûlée. Jackpot. read more

The food was excellent. The atmosohere could be sooo much more if people only knew they existed. The menu is a little costly but worth every penny. This is one of the best kept secrets in Macon and that is a shame. It is open for lunch Monday through Friday. If you want an excellent meal for around $10 to $15 then make plans to go there. Ate dinner here this evening. The atmosphere is clever casual with unique blue tables and soft jazz vocals in the background. But it is the wonderful good that we enjoyed the most! I had the egg rolls which were quite tasty and the sauce gad just the perfect balance of sweet/sour/heat. I also loved the roasted golden beet and buratta salad.
