This is a tale of 2 birds, and I flew south. There are basically 2 restaurants: the food side on the north side (right) and the drink side on the south side (left). I chose the south side (left) for a smoothie. You can see my pics of their interior. The staff was quick and quite helpful - since I'm not a bird of a feather when it comes to smoothies. At the time I went there was ample seating. This is a pedestrian orientated restaurant, the parking on Orange Ave is extremely challenging. I ordered the Mint Protein Chip, see my pic: it was as refreshing as it looks. I was really surprised by how filling it was. I could see how this could be a meal supplement or replacement. I've posted the list of the ingredients. The noticeable takeaway is how refreshingly minty it was without being mouthwash over powering. Also there were bits and pieces of dates, walnuts and cocoa nibs that added small crunches and chewables (I know, I made this up) with bursts of flavor. I saw the kale as an ingredient: so I asked much kale is hidden in this drink: 1 leaf. So with that knowledge of not going overboard on a too healthy of a smoothie, I know I'll be back for this one. read more

My wife Stephanie and I visited on 12/14. JESSICA greeted us and immediately made us feel at home! She was knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations too! The tables were clean, the interior was well laid out and the windows allowed for tons of natural light and a great view of the passerby's on the sidewalk and street. Now for the dish:Little did I know that I have been missing this but now ....."All I Avo Wanted" was it. I tasted the blue corn waffle to start (for me, it hinted at that Holiday favorite of a Tamal!!), then moved to the avo, chili flakes and feta combo which was creamy and distinct with its flavor & bit-o-spice, the egg was "easy" to perfection (I still "yolk" about it) with hints of the hemp seeds and dill - wow! The "take me over the edge moment" came when I combined it all in one bite and added a dip into the salsa macha! I stopped by Parakeet Café in Coronado and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. The cashier was rude and seemed completely uninterested in taking my order. I specifically asked for my drink to go, yet it was brought to me in a glass cup to drink there. When I kindly asked the server if it could be put in a to-go cup, the cashier came back with both the glass and a cup, placed them on my table, and said, "You can pour it because the foam is going to mess up." It wasn't so much what she said, but the tone and attitude behind it. it felt dismissive and unnecessary. There are always nicer ways to communicate with customers, especially when they're being polite. I hesitated about leaving a tip while paying and instantly regretted it once this situation happened. I really wanted to like this place, but customer service matters, and this interaction left a bad impression. What makes this even more disappointing is that my family truly enjoys Parakeet Café's other locations around San Diego. we've always had great experiences elsewhere. This one just didn't live up to that standard. If I do return, I really hope that particular cashier isn't there. I wish I had caught her name, but I didn't think about it at the time. read more

Parakeet Cafe is a cute and vibrant coffeeshop that has colors and a theme that will make you want to waltz right in. It did that for me! Immediately after walking in, I felt my vibe elevate and I'll thank the bright colors and open atmosphere for that. I ordered an iced matcha latte ($7) with their housemade almond milk and sweetened subtly with honey. It was refreshing and tasted of quality. I also ordered a protein acai bowl ($17) to share and it truly hit the spot! They were good about subbing out base and topping items and customizing where possible. The base tasted refreshing, hearty, and wasn't overly sweet. The middle layer of sliced almonds added and nice crunch while the fruit and almond butter toppings were fun to fish for. Overall, the drink and acai bowl were memorable. The pricing is no joke; dropping in at the cafe will hit your wallet so just be prepared for that. Parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time of day of your visit. Nonetheless, the downtown Coronado area is cute and charming so walking the distance can be worth it whilst enjoying the scenery. The experience here was a treat indeed! read more

Cute place I found on Yelp and thought I'd check it out. We got here around 6:45 & the guy waited 5 min to take our order. Before he even took our order he said we close in 10 minutes so whatever you order will be to go, however the ppl that ordered after us their food was brought out in glass plates and they were able to eat at the restaurant, so that was pretty rude! I ordered the acai bowl and it was just a melted smoothie in a bowl. Ordered the maple latte and it was just watered down coffee. My mother ordered a smoothie. The server didn't bother telling us that the smoothie and acai bowl would be ready for pick up in the next door establishment. I asked for a bag to put our stuff in and the guy put the acai bowl in and slanted it so when I opened the bowl it was all dripping. Overall rude and everything we ordered was mediocre! So love this place. Right on Orange avenue and they have seats inside (upper and lower level) and some outdoor tables. Everything is very fresh and made to order. Vegan options galore and they will change orders to accommodate dietary needs. The cafe is connected to the juice bar area so you have multiple options. I stopped in for a vegan dinner and it was glorious. Grilled vegetable salad with nut cheese and buckwheat noodles. The chef did a superb job and did not over dress the salad. Just a hint of dressing really let the fresh vegetables shine. They had vegan desserts which I may try next time. Staff was amazing and I spoke to them quite a bit about how they sourced produce and prepared food. Spot on knowledge and very friendly. They have protein options if you so desire. Greta location. Really loved this experience. The space is so bright, invited and eclectic. Super fun. I absolutely adore the menu. A little bit of nap much I love, I was surprised and excited to see they even had the Rootbeer from Olipop It was the perfect bright day. Food: So... thought it was a health food place but didn't quite know the extent until we got there! I had the Thai salad, my wife had the eggs Benedict. I have to say, if all vegan food was this delicious, I could totally be vegan! The salad I think had a peanut type sauce on top, it was very good! The mint latte was really good too... but... I got the mushroom cacao chai and... did not really like it. To each, his own but I would not order this again. However, I wanted to try something new and I did, so I am not giving them a low score for me being adventurous! ;) Atmosphere: Divvy place inside plus there is a balcony up top you can sit at. Pretty cool view and it is away from all of the stuff going on at the ground level. There is a juice shop connected to it as well... also cool! Lots of healthy options. Price: Healthy, delicious, price - you can only pick two. Ha! It could be healthy and cheap, but it probably doesn't taste good. Or it is delicious and cheap, but it isn't healthy. This place is not super expensive, but for my wife and I for a small lunch and drinks was 65$. Now, it's in Coronado too so perhaps location is also a part of it. But like I always say in my reviews, as long as the food is good, I don't mind the price. Service: I'm still confused with places like this. You have to go to the counter to order and then they bring the food to you, so are you supposed to tip? No one came to refill waters or check up on us so... am I supposed to give a 15% tip for someone to walk my food up to me? If I just went to get it myself, do I still need to tip? I dunno... I wish they would just come order at your table because then I would have no problem tipping. Overall: It's not a bad place plus, since it is healthy, it felt good afterwards. The downsides - it's a little pricier than I expected and the tipping situation is weird. Also, the mushroom chai was not very good, to me at least. If anyone reading this has tried it and thought it was good, please let me know, perhaps I just don't have the palette for it. read more

My Son's SALMON and EGG was simple, but delicious. The Salmon was fresh and tasted good! Our Toasts were all good, I liked the HARVEST TOAST the most. The Tomatoes on it were fresh and sweet. The SALMON TOAST was also good, but there's this ingredient that I don't know what it is, but it had a sour on it that I dont like with my Salmon, so I took those out and just ate the Toast with Yummy Salmon on it. They have a small area for Pastries, but they are good, the BLUEBERRY MUFFIN and the BREAD PUDDING were so good. Not too sweet at all. I will always get their Pastries here, they are always good. As usual , parking here is tough, but as I said before, this is Coronado, so there are many things to see like restaurants, stores, the Hotel Del Coronado, and the beach, so you will still enjoy walking even you find a parking a bit far. read more

I have gone here many times and the food is always good and so is the coffee however it is rather expensive for the portions. The music is far too loud to the point it is difficult to have a conversation. There are also lots of flies inside when I went which I think is related to the fact that many areas are left with crumbs and not cleaned regularly. The area by the window I counted at least 3 dead flies and 10 flying around making it difficult to eat. Other than that no issues. read more

Stopped by this cafe wandering along Orange Ave. It has cute pop Instagram friendly decor and helpful, welcoming baristas. We got the peppermint mocha, a house brew and a cortado - all of which were great. Loved the flavor of their house brew refreshing and clean on the palate.
