Great food (except, oddly, curries do not come with rice?? add for $3.75 per tiny bowl) and lovely decor. But the experience was weirdly unpleasant. Website doesn't take reservations. It says to call but we tried 3 times and they never picked up and you can't leave message. So we arrived right after opening. The host, upon looking disappointed in us for not having a reservation, glanced around an entirely empty restaurant and said "I guess I can seat you here" at the tiniest table on the walkway and right in front of the door. While dining, several other (disappointing) couples were reluctantly seated at 4-tops. This is fast-food. We were all done and gone before any hordes with reservations arrived, so it would not have been a problem to seat us at a comfortable table. The wait staff was was nice but pushy, obviously told to turn tables over as fast as possible. Waitress arrived wanting drink, appetizer and dinner orders all at once - at moment you are (reluctantly) seated. I'm torn about recommending Swaddee because the food was admittedly excellent. But life is probably too short for this sort of experience. read more

I give it 3.5 stars. We chose to dine on the patio as inside seemed a little warm. We were seated right away and served swiftly. We enjoyed a ginger stir fry entree and a Thai iced tea. The food could have been a little hotter, but it was tasty. We ordered a spice level of 2, which was just right for us. We paid by credit card and they took the card away to scan it. It was very pleasant inside: clean and bright with tablecloths, cloth napkins, and fancier water glasses providing a more upscale feel. We ordered the following: - Pad see ew with tofu (spicier than expected, as this dish doesn't usually come out spicy at all, but the texture and flavor were good) - Drunken noodle with tofu (strangely not as spicy as we were expecting--it's like this dish did a Freaky Friday spicy swap with the pad see ew) - Green beans (came out in a red curry-like sauce, which was unexpected but delicious) - Thai iced coffee & tea (the only items that tasted exactly like what we were expecting) We agreed that while the dishes did subtly deviate from our expectations, everything was very tasty. Yum! So glad we stopped in here. Some of the most delicious Thai food I've had in ages. Tucked on a corner one street black back from the main shops on Orange Ave, this place is a gem. We were easily and quickly helped and service was friendly and exceptionally attentive and polite. They were pretty booked for a middle of the weeknight dinner but easily seated us at a small table for two. We ordered steamed pork dumplings to start and chicken Pad Thai for me and a duck dish for my husband with Asian broccoli. Everything was so good. Really good flavors. Hubby and I decided to have a small dinner, since we just had a good filling Mexican food for lunch.. We ordered chicken satay and shrimp Pad Thai, and regular iced tea.. The chicken satay came with 4 skewers and 1 small jar of peanut sauce; compared to all the other Thai restaurants I've known who served it with pickled cucumbers and marinated small Thai chili peppers, this one had nothing except peanut sauce.. The flavor was unexciting and the sauce tasted like something diluted from store bought.. Then came Pad Thai.. Unlike other Thai restaurants where you can see the bean spurts, shredded carrots and crushed peanuts layered atop the noodles and you squeeze the lemon yourself to decide how sour or light you'd like; the plate was already mixed with the lemon before it's brought to our table.. There's no shredded carrots and crushed peanuts was no longer crunchy.. Other than the blah food, the service was great and the ambiance was fantastic.. So I got take out tonight and although it looks and smells good I was disappointed to open the bag only to find NO rice .... None not even steamed white rice. Even though I ordered curry and chicken basil, dishes that, you know need and usually come with rice ! So I looked at their menu and yep they don't come with rice !!! They charge anywhere from 3-4 dollars for a tiny cup of rice .... Well ok but you know tell me so I don't get home and have to make rice to eat my take out ! My boyfriend and I walked in on a weekend night and were seated immediately. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for any occasion and made me feel like I was in Thailand. The food itself was great! We shared a chicken pad thai and tom yum pot. The pot was smaller than expected but they loaded it up with plenty of protein. I'm also very picky about my pad thai. Usually 50% of the thai places I go to they make the noodles too dry so that the noodles stick together but this was just perfect! These two items were perfect for us to share and we weren't super hungry either. The prices were also incredibly cheap given the location and that it was dinner time. We were the first patrons and sat inside. They have a high chair. The decor is a bit fancier than your regular Thai place with real placemats. Beef salad - Good portion and delicious. I came in at around 12-1pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was clean and quiet--just the way I like it. The food was amazing, too! Best pad see iew i've ever had in forever! The plum wine was perfectly sweet and the sauce for the tofu appetizer was the perfect compliment to the tofu's crispiness. My waiter Poom was very kind and accommodating. I visited this restaurant 3 days ago and wanted to order take out but I was told there was a 30-40 minute wait time. I decided to leave. I returned the next day and was asked by the server if I wanted to sit inside or outside. I noticed there were no tables for two, and I didn't want to take up space meant for larger groups, so l asked the server if there were flies outside. He said no. Then, a man who seemed to be the manager-standing nearby talking to other guests-asked the server if l'd asked about flies. When the server said yes, the man looked directly at me and said, "Yes, there are flies outside because you're here. Just kidding." I found that extremely inappropriate and insulting. I still chose to stay and eat, but during my entire meal, no one checked on me. Staff came outside only to seat other guests and then went back in. I also asked about a military discount, and the server said they didn't offer one. That was surprising, as I had been here the month before with my boyfriend, showed my military ID, and received a discount. This visit was particularly difficult for me as I am still recovering from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident last month. This was my first time eating outside alone since the accident. I was simply seeking a good meal. Unfortunately, I felt that the restaurant failed in providing genuine hospitality, which is about more than just serving food. Between the rude comment, the lack of service, and being made to feel unwelcome, I chose not to leave a tip. I'm a paying customer who asked a simple and innocent question. It had nothing to do with the hygiene of the restaurant. It's summer and I'm only used to eating outside in the evenings not in the afternoon so this was a first for me which warranted my question. I had 2 completely different experiences between the visit last month and this visit. I honestly don't believe I would've been spoken to like that if I was accompanied by my boyfriend or if I was a man. I won't be returning. Hospitality should be rooted in kindness and respect. Great find while walking from the ferry terminal in Coronado to the plaza beach area... Quaint little area with a lot of different shops and eateries. We worked up an appetite after walking from the Little Italy area to downtown San Diego and taking the ferry to Coronado. It's about a 10-12 block walk from the ferry drop off point.
