We stopped into Achilles Coffee for coffee and bagels during our time exploring San Diego, and it was a great spot for a quick breakfast. There is indoor seating, including high-top tables, as well as plenty of outdoor seating if you prefer to enjoy your coffee in the fresh air. The bagel sandwiches were incredibly fresh and full of flavor, easily the standout of our visit. The coffee was smooth and enjoyable, though even with four shots of espresso it leaned a bit milder than expected. If you prefer a stronger, more robust cup, it's worth asking for an extra shot or two to dial it in. Overall, Achilles Coffee has a laid-back atmosphere, solid breakfast options, and genuinely friendly service. We'd happily stop in again for another bagel--and hopefully a bolder cup of coffee next time!

Vanilla Latte

Cute coffee shop located across the street from Petco Park. Prices are reasonable for coffee plus they have some pastries as well as hot food items. My vanilla latte had good flavor, but it wasn't as hot as I would have liked so you may want to request it to be extra hot (didn't need to leave lid off or use a sleeve). I wouldn't order the croissant again as it didn't seem fresh. Wasn't terrible, but seemed to be like a day old pastry. The staff was friendly and my order came out quick. There wasn't free wifi available (or I didn't find a sign with a password for the wifi), so this might not be a spot to do remote work.

Breakfast burrito

I'm not a burrito person but I always come back here just for the breakfast burrito. It's always consistent and all the ingredients mesh so well together. The texture is perfect. The burrito can be two meals.

The staff are so welcoming and warm. There are so many options of drink and food selections and I'm determined to try everything. There are plenty of seating (inside and outside); outside is especially pretty when the sun is out!

I love coming to this location. The service is always great & it feels super inclusive and safe when I walk in. Coffee is amazing & never tastes burnt. Food is also just as delicious. It can be busy since it's a smaller coffee shop so come with patience. It's worth the wait every time!

Came to meet a friend and ordered an iced matcha with oat milk. It was fine, but tasted very lightly of matcha with oat milk being the main ingredient. Drank it anyway. The place is clean and comfortable but not enough to be there more than you need to be. Very grab and go vibes. The service was adequate.

Achilles Scramble with chicken sausage

I don't make it down to this Achilles Coffee Roasters location too often as I find legal parking here to be a nightmare, especially on game days but when I do make it down, it is certainly one of my favorite downtown gems. I love that their menu names pay tribute to cities across San Diego and beyond. It always sparks ideas for my next little day trip while I'm sipping one of their 8 delicious latte options (as I am a loyal oat milk latte lady). It's also the perfect spot for anyone who enjoys discovering new coffee blends and figuring out what flavor notes they truly love in their cup with their pour-overs from 12 different regions. The menu items I've had were always yummy and generously portioned. I usually go for the Achilles Scramble with chicken sausage - hearty enough for two to share; and when I'm in the mood for something sweet, the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes hit that craving perfectly without being too sweet. If it weren't for the location forcing you to walk a couple blocks or fight the bus lane and Petco Park parking limitations on game days, I'd make my way over to this location far more often.

Tourmaline toast
Jamie C.

The Tourmaline Avo toast was soooooo good. It's so basic but it has the perfect amount of oil, salt and pepper. I usually want way more on my toast, but this was perfect this morning. And the cashier was so nice. I'd be in trouble if I worked around here.

Very great side quest with the gang after a morning workout down the street. A lot of depth on the menu for a coffee shop, great food options. I got the mocha latte (I ordered on the fly), and it was good. The Cove bagel (salmon) was absolute gas!!! There are no stars to dock, and I hope if you're considering coming here you do.

3 Three Sisters
Warren W.

Ordered a latte with whole milk and the 3 sister (matcha lemonade). The latte was bold, full bodied and had a strong roasted bean taste. Yumms. The lemonade was not overly sweet and had a mild matcha flavor. Like the latte more. Not much to talk about service at a coffee shop. Very loud Latino music. Made a good vibe for chilling but not great for talking.

Coffee was great and customer service was excellent, I would recommend to everyone for a quick stop coffee

Barrio burrito

I absolutely love these burrito! They are delicious! We live in this building, and I'm so happy there's a restaurant here with such tasty food! We'll definitely be coming back!

In trying new coffee spots on a weekend walk, a friend of mine and I decided to try Achilles. They offer seating inside and outside. There was a great open air feel inside. We tried the cinnamon vanilla latte. It was great, heavy on the cinnamon. I got a jalepeño bagel, and I was asked if I wanted my order to go. My bagel was conveniently cut in half with cream cheese so it wad easy to walk and eat. There was a large party there and they ordered breakfast burritos that looked so good, so I have another reason to return.

Food: - Flat iron steak: delicious and super tendy with a nice crust. Came with an arugula salad - Fish of the day: today was rock fish with a creamy panang/thai sauce and it was DELICIOUS - Duck: my table's favorite dish. You can make your own tiny tacos and the macha chili was seriously the best thing ever - French fries: nice horsestring fries, cant go wrong - Tuna crudo: super light and citrusy and flavorful, but only like 5-6 pieces - Chicken skewers: this honestly fell really flat. Would not recommend, i'd say it's the worst thing on the menu and surprisingly fell short. Doesnt feel like it belongs on the menu. - Brussel Sprouts: really good and unique with a peanut butter sauce - Mac and cheese: yummy but nothing special Overall was a great experience but I'd probably only come here on special occasions. Their drinks were also fantastic - the cantaloupe was super tasty. Shoutout Ola for being the best waiter!

The happy hour stand outs for me were the: - lamb meatballs $12 - this was the unanimous favorite amongst us, the flavors and juiciness of the meat was great ($4 per ball) - pork belly bao buns 3 for $16 - succulent and tender meat that basically melts in your mouth bc the fat in the best way, and the buns were super soft as well I enjoyed the flavor "crispy" brussel sprouts $10 but the texture was no where near crispy, they were cooked thoroughly but kinda mushy. The steak $25 was ordered as medium rare and was a bit too rare for our liking. But the fries were nice and crispy. The worst thing about the meal was the mac and cheese $8. We all tried it and agreed that it had issues with it being bland and having no depth of flavor, and the cornflake crumble tasted like old oil and stale cereal. Everyone's least favorite item of the night. ---- Notes: - we sat inside and there's not much air flow, it got pretty stuffy and hot during our meal - service was very attentive and charismatic, Dalton did a great job helping with allergy concerns - They were kind enough to split the bill in 3 but unfortunately charged me for an extra beer and I didn't notice it until after we had left - parking was okay, able to find paid street parking around the area ---- Overall: I reallyyyy wanted to like this place more, and I will probably give it another chance in the future bc I see such great potential. The food was just inconsistent btwn dishes with some being amazing and others subpar. If you want to try this place out definitely go on a Wednesday for their all-day happy hour bc their food at their regular prices wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

We said we would wait for water but it never came around and they never checked up on it. I ordered the sampler that came with chilaquiles, beans, huevos rancheros, and corn tamal. When I ordered it, the server asked "and what would you like for your meat?" Her wording made it sound as if there was a protein that came with the chilaquiles. I was caught off guard at the end of the meal when I saw that there was a hefty (for the small portion) additional charge for the tough and flavorless carne asada. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but I think it would be better phrased as, "would you like to add protein?" for it to be less ambiguous. Nobody likes to be surprised with a higher bill than expected. I did not think the chilaquiles lived up its claim to be the best. It was pretty good, but the carne asada actually hindered it rather than helped it. Definitely get something else if you want to add protein to your dish. I was unhappy with the level of service, and the price didn't match the quality of the food. There are so many better spots in SD for Mexican food.

Everything came out quickly and beautifully portioned, which made getting dessert (magpie ice cream cake) a no brainer. Delicious!!! Sausage rolls were an absolute must. My only gripe was that it seemed like it was a bit understaffed for brunch on a Friday morning. There was only one waitress that we could see. Also the prices are quite high with additional protein options varying by dish rather than a generic price. For example, to add a protein to "The Cure" dish, it was only $3 but to add it to the French toast, it was an additional $7. Made no sense. Also the mandatory 4% credit card fee at a restaurant felt a bit tacky considering how much you're already spending on the meal. Overall, I'd still probably come back again but with cash.
