Ace is sort of up there with Radio shack for me. I always wonder "How the hell is this place still in business?". Always just a step above empty and most of the people have that old school grump- the bad kind. I stopped in to get a few keys cut and was really surprised that 2 standard keys cost me $5. Went online and rented a UHaul truck, when i picked it up a lady told me when i was coming back they would be closed. She told me to go up Tatum to Bell and get my UHaul there as they had an after-hours drop box. I went to that intersection and there was no UHaul there. Used my cell phone and found a uHaul at 4101 Bell, but they were closed. Went back on line and found another UHaul on 16226 N 32nd St. after wasting 35 minutes i got signed up again for a rental truck. Used it for 3 hours and received my bill where they double charged me for the rental Insurance. Arties not good, UHaul, not good. read more

The employees usually seem miserable.. it's easy to be ignored and feel a bit undervalued.. and after several visits, I have come to see why. And because of this, I will never again return. The first incident occurred when I went in to get a key made, and who I strongly believe to be Artie himself, was actually yelling at the guy working with him behind the counter.. I don't know the backstory, but it really made me uncomfortable, especially because past experiences told me that the employee he was yelling at was the friendliest one I had encountered at their location.. not to mention it is extremely unprofessional to be yelling in front of costumers! I didn't plan to go back, but decided to anyway, simply because of the convenient location. When I went in, two of the employees were getting a little too comfortable with each other.. They didn't seem phased by me, and the woman slowly chit-chatted her way over to me, and almost seemed annoyed that I was interfering with their hang out/touching time. I think her name was Danielle. Definitely doesn't seem like a good shopping environment, or a good work environment.. read more

Horrible customer service! I tried to exchange a defective table fan that had a 1 year warranty honored at the "place of purchase. When I brought in the fan with its original packaging and receipt I was told by a manager that Ace "stands behind their products, but only for 30 days," and that I would have to contact the manufacturer for remedy...I shared the literature with her about the warranty terms of an item that they sold to me and she said that there was nothing that they could do about it????? When I told her that I would spend my money elsewhere, she said, "that's fine, you do that." I have heard horror stories abouti their poor return policy and have now experienced it personally. I have always felt that their products were WAY OVERPRICED, but shopped there for the sake of convenience...NEVER AGAIN! read more

Bad customer service? Try criminal. My wife and I went to have keys made. After the guy made the keys, my wife walked away from the counter, then remembered she'd left her phone there. When she went back, the guy told her he hadn't seen a phone. She came and got me, and I used Apple's Find Phone app. I played a sound on her phone. We heard the phone, and the guy reached up way under the counter where he'd stashed it. We told the manager her key guy was a thief and left. Unbelievable. Well I gave this location two stars originally but I just called right now and the woman who answered, with a thick New York accent, was so messed up she couldn't even say "hello thank you, thank you for calling arties ace." she didn't even say arties. I'm pretty sure she said Barnums ace, like the circus. She was slurring so bad. Went to put me on hold and failed so I heard her and a coworker speak. Just the amount of times I go in there and the staff is just faded. And it's not all of them. It's a particular group of women there. And I'm not discriminating against women, just these particular ones. I've had a cashier, a young woman, nodding off on me while at the checkout. The older people that work here are great and knowledgeable but after coming here and seeing the same intoxicated employees gives me no trust in this location and I don't want to support a business that allows this kind of stuff to happen within its doors. Went to return a come-along that didn't work. The clerk didn't even ask why I was returning it. She said she needed to check with her manager. She comes back and says they can accept my return but there would be a 25% restocking fee. I say "for an item that doesn't work". She said, sorry I'm just the messenger and there is nothing I can do. You want an example of horrible customer service? Go to Artie's Ace Hardware. Sold us an electric barbecue grill. While trying to grill steaks that very night, the barbecue tripped the circuit in our house, and the food, when it finally cooked, tasted like it was steamed. When we went to exchange the barbecue for a gas grill and explained what happened, the clerk immediately started blaming the wiring in our house, was unfriendly, unpleasant, unhelpful and the manager she brought over was the same. We forgot about exchanging the grill, returned it (after being charged a restocking fee), and went directly to Home Depot, where we found a great little barbecue and were treated like gold. I usually try to patronize locally owned businesses, but in this case, you're better off going to Home Depot or Lowes. read more

I have been going to Ace hardware for all of my business and personal needs for years. Great selection and customer service, that is until I visited ardys ace on Tatum and tbird. The worst costumer service I have experienced with ace. I tried to return an item I bought the previous week with the box it came in and the card it was purchased with. They treated me very poorly as if I found the impact drill and wanted cash for it.. Never had problems returning items before. I go to Ace just about daily. I work for dutch bros coffee and servent leadership is something we practice everyday. I love this store, they are always helpful when looking for a part for the home and a fun gift. This store has it all. They even have pool supplies. I hate going into this store. It is very disorganized, cluttered, and impossible to get assistance. When you do get assistance they are usually very short and rude in their responses. They seem to be trying to sell everything but hardware (ie. jewelry, clothing, and lighters). The only reason I stop here is because of how conveniently located it is to my house. read more

I went to use the post office today and they close at 5 o'clock. I made it in with five minutes to spare and they told me they close at 4:45 and kicked me out. 25% restocking fee?!?!?! What the heck dude? I needed a new sink washer and I unfortunatly just happened to get the wrong size. I unfortunately damaged the package it came in but didn't think it was a big deal so I took it back hoping to exchange the washer for a bigger size. They didn't have what I was looking for so naturally I wanted my money back. The cashier told me she was going to charge me a 25% restocking fee for the "cut" package... are you serious?! It's a home improvement store, you won't always get the right thing the first time and to penalize your customers for something such as this is absolutely absurd. Very disappointed in this Ace Hardware. This is the second time this happened to me. Purchase a item that needed to be ordered. I paid for it upfront. They told me they would call me when it came in. I finally called after for 5 days. And the item came in but they never called me. Assistant manager apologized. But actually that wasn't good enough. This was the second time this has happened to me. I was told the girls up front are supposed to call when the item comes in. No one ever called. I will not be patronizing the store anymore. But I will be patronizing a store the largest Ace Hardware on Tatum and Thunderbird. They seem to have everything you would ever need. I will tell you what I know about Artie's Ace Hardware, Artie himself, his family, and the men and women that work at the store, which have become like family to me. **And if anyone in these reviews should know about all of them, it is me-** because I have been personally shopping at this man's store, since 1992, and professionally shopping there on a near daily basis since 2005, spending $100,000 at the store from about 2008-2013 alone, and I have the receipts to prove it. (I own a full service repair company). To this day, I see Artie personally on the floor of his store every day, well dressed, smiling, and "in the trenches" with his men and women. He talks to customers, handles concerns, and is always trying to improve the store. He asks customers what they want, and he has personally asked me as a repair company owner/operator what I think about the store-he listens, and takes action-I often see him redo areas of the store to offer people more. Just in the last year, he has added a Post Office, a U-Haul rental, he has redone the entire electrical section, and MORE!! I have never asked this man for anything, and he has made me feel like family. He recognized how often I was in his store over the years, asked who I was, took a personal interest in me, thanked me, and showed his appreciation for my business. He also personally supports his employees by hiring and using (on a regular basis) one of their children who runs an electrical company to perform work at his store. There is to much to list, and not enough room here for me to express my gratitude for what this man and his employees have done for myself, the men and women I've employed, and my family. His family works there as well, and they're always moving and working hard. The men on the floor that work at Artie's I've come to know, care about, and respect personally over the years. They are like family to me. I hold their opinions in high regard and still seek advice from them, even after repairing things in multiple fields both personally and professionally over the last 18 years. When I walk into this store, I usually see 3 of them up front that greet me with smiles, use my name, and they know exactly where things are- this continues as I walk through the store. That is not easy to do when you work in a customer service capacity for long periods of time. I am honored to know and call each one of these men my friends, and nothing is more important to me than my reputation, so hopefully that means something. The girls up front that run the register and front end are SUPERHEROES. If you have never operated a cash register (I did this for years when I was younger at both grocery stores, gas stations, and in other stores) then you have NO IDEA what it takes to greet each person with a smile like they do every time, over and over again- one person can be yelling at you and making you lose your faith in humanity one minute, and right after that you need to genuinely smile and make someone feel welcome- over and over again, day in and day out. The next time you see one of these girls, you should give them a tip like a waitress-and thank them- because in my opinion it's a lot harder to do what they do, and they get no tips, and are given to little respect. In summary, every one of the people I know at this store are absolutely amazing, and I don't have enough room, time, or vocabulary to say enough nice things. I hope you give them a shot, and if you've had a bad experience, maybe it's time to let go of that, be forgiving, go back in and give Artie's another shot. read more

I want to give a shout out to Danielle at this location. We went in there to get a car key cut that we had purchased online from another vendor. Danielle was so knowledgeable about cutting automobile keys,and I'm sure other keys as well. She was so friendly and her customer service skills were spot on! They have a good selection but their store is not laid out very well. If you don't understand the layout of this store, you can get completely lost. Also, their customer service is hit or miss. Went up to the customer service counter and stood right in front of a girl and she completely avoided me. Would not look up or acknowledge me in any way. I left and decided to try to do my return at the regular register and that worked fine. When we were checking out, there was a long line for the single teller that was open. A second teller opened up and, rather than saying "next in line, come to my register", they took the last person in the line. HELLO???!?!? Definitely no customer service at this Ace Hardware location. read more

I thought I would patron Ace instead of a big box store as I am a small business owner. Smaller companies/businesses heavily rely on customer service as price points can be of issue. Wasn't asking how to build an ark, just patching some drywall. A big box store it is from now on who will answer my questions without degrading me. Jesus, aggressively degrading. I use Arties for convenience. But was just there and my items rang up $2 each more than they were marked. The cashier was not helpful. We went back and double checked the price. I decided to shop locally and support a small business rather than go to a home improvement superstore. What a mistake that was! Terrible customer service. I was unable to find anyone to help me. Finally, someone was available. He sent me to aisle 42 and called for assistance. Nobody came. I found another employee who knew less of what was going on than I did. She called for assistance. The man who came over clearly did not want to work today. He took me to aisle 43 - the correct aisle. Unfortunately they were out of the item I needed. Total waste of 15 minutes. I have been going to Artie's Ace for 20 plus years. The selection is always excellent, the advice great and when they do not have something they help direct me to the store that can fill my need. I have read some negative reviews before writing this review. I think those negative reviewers must be paid by Artie's competitors. This Ace store is a great place to for home maintenance products and advice in using them. I have had the instances when I wanted a sales associate's help and they were all tied up with other customers. My waits have been shorter and more worthwhile at Artie's than my waits or hunts for help at big box stores. I suggest that complainers about Artie's go to other stores because in my neighborhood Artie's has so many fans and loyal customers that I do not think Artie's needs the complainers. read more

I always want to like this place but I just can't. I'm fine with paying a bit more for great customer service, but the prices are significantly higher and often the customer service is no-where to be found. It is hard to navigate this store and my experience is that finding someone to help you is often as difficult as finding what you are looking for, if not more so. Another problem is with what the store calls "seasonal items." In other words, be prepared for the possibility that whatever you buy will not be returnable, even if it is unopened and unused. I have found that Ace does have a different / larger selection than Home Depot or Lowe's on certain specialty items (for example, signs and doggie doors). But I still begin with Home Depot or Lowe's first and visit Ace only as a last resort. read more

DO NOT COME HERE: A NIGHTMARE! This place is absolutely horrible. I don't know why their employees bother showing up for work. They make it very clear that they don't want to interact with their customers. My boyfriend and I had a reservation with U-Haul for a pick up truck. We get there and go to the counter explaining we have a reservation with U-Haul. First thing Cristina (middle age old blonde lady) says is "Yup, we don't deal with that. It's all on your phone through the app. I don't deal with it." So my boyfriend politely asks if she would at least be willing to at help us with the app to get the truck. She says "Well I guess I can try but it's really not my job." By far just rude! She made it very evident that she didn't want to waste her time with us as her customers. My boyfriend shows her on the app (after doing it on his own) that it's frozen but can show the confirmation number & receipt for the truck rental. We assume that they must have a way to assist customers in case this happens. The next thing that comes out of Cristinas mouth is "Yeah we can't help. There's nothing I can do for you. You're gonna have to just deal with U-Haul. Kinda crappy huh." I find it very hard to believe that a company like U-Haul doesn't have the back up procedures for their customers when they experience difficulties with a reservation. We then call for a manager after her terrible attitude gets us no where. She calls the manager and he's just as useless as she is. Doesn't make eye contact. Looks pissed off that he had to do something that fell under his job title. I was very frustrated so I called the U-Haul(4110 E Bell Phoenix, AZ 85032 /602-714-7387) off of Bell and spoke with Colleen & Rod. AMAZING!!! They said no worries just come on over. We can help you figure it out and look further into it. They said they also have a bigger truck we could use & that it would be at no additional costs. We walked in & just so sweet!! They felt horrible about our experience. Went out of their way to make sure we felt good about working with U-Haul as a company. Amazing customer service!! Within 5 minutes we had keys & could continue on with our move. I called back this ACE location to get the managers name. Cristina answered the phone & was just rude. Right away she knew it was me when I told her why I was calling. She asked me to repeat myself multiple times. She then thought it was appropriate to say "what a bitch" on the phone. This location does not seem to like the fact that they have to deal with customers. Save yourself the time of day & future headache. This location deserves zero star. read more
