I've tasted a few things off their menu from their soup, salads, burgers, And their chicken tenders. All tasted really great esp especially their desserts. My only complaint is calling for a to go order. I'm usually put on hold for a very long time and usually forgotten. I would be on hold for a good 5 to 10 minutes.. Puppy's is great if you want greasy, fried goodness. Their fried pickles are great, chicken fried steak is yummy, fries are good. I have not tried many other items here, but from what I did taste, it was good for what it was. Simple and to the point. Plus there is actually parking which is always a plus. read more

Had lunch here and it is cute place super casual atmosphere. Service was good food was a sold 4. Fajita meat in the quesadillas was really greasy otherwise the food was good. That's what the one star reduction was for. The shrimp and chicken baskets were hot and crispy. We saw another table ordering curly fries. Will definitely do that next time. They lost a customer a few minutes ago. I went there for lunch and the hostess asked me if I would sit at the Bar which was crowded and I said no. She said "well we don't have any tables, so are you sure?" I said I don't want to sit at the bar so she said we don't have any tables. So I said ok forget it then. She said are you sure you don't want to sit at the bar? So I left. If she had told me I would have to wait for a table then I would've gladly waited, but she wouldn't give me that option. The food is ok. Generous portions but it's not anything to write home about. However, we were with a large party and our server Paula was great. The menu is huge so maybe we just struck out with everything we ordered. The gravy is good and if you get something smothered with it, you should be happy. I however ordered a shrimp Caesar salad after being told the shrimp and grits were really spicy, the guacamole was pretty spicy as well but everybody else at our table liked it, My shrimp were over cooked and small for a $17 salad. Love love love Pappys! Great food, good service, great prices, you just can't go wrong! Hamburgers are nice and big and juicy. The Philly cheesesteak is really good too. I know its a very minor deal, but they will put cherries in your coke or sprite or any other soda if you want. One of my favorite places for chicken fried steak in Houston. My daughter's favorite is the buffalo tenders. The IBC root beer float is a nice treat. The spiced/cinnamon apples are good, the fried pickles, fried mushrooms, and fried cheese are all excellent. I wanted to take my parents to lunch and Pappy's was their choice. This was my first visit and I didn't know what to expect. We were greeted by Lydia who was very friendly. The staff was excellent. Paul made sure the food was satisfactory. The Blacken'd Catfish w/Crawfish Etouffee was remarkable. I've made it back several times only to find out that Paul/Lydia are the owners. Our family has been patronizing Pappy's for years. Just had the worst experience -- when a meal comes out FOUR times incorrectly, something is majorly off. (first the chicken, then the bun, then the overcooked fries, then the rude rolling of the eyes of the runner, Helena really makes for a lackluster meal. The manager was notified and nothing was done as an apology or goodwill. With so many fabulous choices in Houston, it's a shame when customers are not appreciated. We have visited Pappy's twice in the last month and will certainly be going back. There is so much to choose from on the menu. We've had the chicken fried steak, fajitas, Philly sandwich and shrimp enchiladas. Everything was wonderful. We haven't had room for dessert yet, but I hear the cobblers are outstanding. The prices are reasonable and portions sizeable.
