Split ckn fried steak and steak and eggs

Ok chicken fried steak. I expected it to be better with the claim of being the "Best". The steak and egg lacked flavor and we had to add table salt and pepper to it. Service was great compared to the food. The. Lady at the counter was nice and friendly. They had Clean bathrooms to wash hands before eating.

I had dinner here last week after having driven by it before and bookmarking it for a future visit. Red Balloon Cafe is located directly on the frontage road and has its own parking lot. There is an uncovered outside dining deck next to the parking lot. Inside the restaurant is vividly decorated remembering the French movie Le Ballon Rouge from the 1950's. It is a table service restaurant with one open medium size dining room. After being seated and presented the one page one sided paper menu, I noticed that most of the entrees are burgers, sandwiches, seafood, CFS, etc. Most of the meals were in the mid teens dollar wise. I chose the regular size Chicken Fried Steak with green beans and fries for $15. I didn't observe any alcohol options to drink and only saw a soft drink dispenser. The food arrived about 10 minutes later. All of the food on the plate was ok taste wise even considering the fries were the standard frozen out of bag type. Ketchup was provided in packets which I don't like in a sit down table service restaurant. The CFS had white cream gravy on top with slivers of bacon mixed in. I give this meal a 3 overall because it was acceptable however I doubt I will be back as the menu didn't interest me in returning for something else. Nothing stood out to me in my meal or what else they offered.

Eat, Drink, HTX…read more Made a reservation for a Sunday night dinner for three. The restaurant is so cute and cozy with tables and booths. Lots of TVs to watch the Olympic Games while you wait for dinner. I liked watching the open pizza oven. They make a lot of pizzas here. The Eat, Drink, HTX menus are a great way to try new restaurants while giving back to the Houston Food Bank. A starter, an entree and a dessert. $25 for dinner. So many choices on this menu. A great deal while helping out those in need. "Started" with the Turkey Samosas. Four crispy pastries that are filled with seasoned ground turkey, potatoes and parsley served with cucumber yogurt. Delicious! The Ember & Greens Soup that my family had was hot, hot, hot and so tasty. The fresh soup was filled with a blend of spinach, parsley, and cilantro with chickpeas, caramelized onions, pinto beans and quinoa. My FIL polished off his bowl! For dinner, we all had the Blackened Salmon. The salmon with lemon butter and avocado salsa served on roasted carrots, broccoli and potatoes and a bed of quinoa. It was a full plate, which we all took home for dinner the next day. Note: it is quite buttery. My FIL had his butter and avocado salsa on the side which worked for him. I loved mine as is. Even though we were pretty full, we still enjoyed dessert. The tiramisu was so indulgent. Loved the layered mascarpone custard, whipped cream, coffee liqueur and coffee-soaked ladyfingers. My FLI had the Chia Seed Pudding with fresh berries. What a great meal. We had a slight hiccup where the appetizers came slightly after the main meal was served, but they were so honest about what happened that I still have to give them five stars for their food and their service. Would try them again for their generous, delicious meals. Lots of parking. Water glasses were frequently filled both with and without meals. Thank you for a really nice Sunday night dinner with family.

It was a beautiful day, so it would have been the perfect day to eat outside if you like that. I'm an eat indoors kind of person, but if you like to eat outside, they do have a few tables for that. I was meeting a friend for lunch and she suggested Ember & Green. We really couldn't decide what to order, so we decided to order a few things and share them. We started off with the Persian Cucumber Sald. It had Persian cucumbers, heirloom cherry tomatoes, red onions, and Kalamata olives with oil and lemon dressing and topped with parsley and feta cheese. Let me tell you, thats lemon dressing was delicious! It went so well with the cucumbers. Next we ordered Blackened salmon with lemon butter and avocado salsa, served with charred broccolini, roasted carrots and potatoes on a bed of cilantro green pea quinoa. I'm really not a huge fan of salmon, but I'm trying to like it more by trying it different ways. The spices that they put on the salmon were really good, not too spicy, but also, not bland. It was also cooked perfectly. Oh, and that lemon butter... that lemon butter made the meal if you ask me. It was so good. So good in fact, I had to try and make salmon with lemon butter at him the very next week. Mine didn't come out as good as Ember & Greens, but it was decent. That just means that I need to leave the cooking to the professional. For dessert we decided to share the Skillet Cookie. Its a house made chocolate chip cookie baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with Amy's Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. This was the only thing that we ordered that was a nope. I dont know what happened, but it didn't seem like it was cooked at all in the middle. We took a few bites, that was all we could eat of it. All and all, it was a good experience and I will go back. I'll just skip dessert next time.

House Salad...they were very stingy with the lettuce. It was delicious though. Would've been better with more lettuce.
