Short Rib Jalapeño Burger lettuce wrapped with French Onion soup

Such a fun place with great food! They have a huge space I can imagine gets filled up on weekends or game nights. Came here on a Wednesday night and had the room almost to ourselves. Everyone from the hostess, the servers, and the bartenders were super kind. We both got the Short Rib Jalapeño burger, hers was lettuce wrapped. We got side salads instead of fries, she got french onion soup and I got the chili. To start off the salads were good, nothing special but not bad at all. The chili was exceptional, very good flavor, meaty with chunks of ribeye, and a ton of cheese and red onions just how I like it. The French Onion soup was delicious, covered in cheese, and very rich. Now the burgers.....they were phenomenal tbh. The cheese was so melty and mixed with the aioli so nicely plus a little kick from the jalapeño. The patty was cooked nicely leaving it juicy, and the short rib on top was perfect. I would come back for this burger! They have some fun cocktails too, we both got a smoked maple old fashioned. They bring it out with smoke in the glass, you can certainly taste it!

This was my second visit to Pappy McGregor's in about six months. It had been recommended by friends who live in the area, and my first experience was solid enough that I was looking forward to coming back. On my first visit (evening), we walked in without a reservation and were quickly seated at the last available table. The place had a lively atmosphere, and it looked like part of the space turns into more of a dance floor later in the night. I had the French onion soup, raw oysters, and the pot pie, all of which were good. The pot pie in particular is something I would recommend. This most recent visit was for lunch on a weekday. There were plenty of open tables, and we were seated right away. Parking was easy, which is typical outside of busy weekends. The experience this time around was more mixed. We wanted to order oysters Rockefeller, but they were completely out of oysters, which was disappointing. I ordered a black and tan, which tasted fine, but it came with a design on top that I wasn't expecting. Not a big deal, just different from what I had in mind. For food, my girlfriend ordered the blackened salmon and said it was good. I went with the corned beef and cabbage. The corned beef itself was flavorful and served over mashed potatoes, which were well done. The cabbage, though, wasn't what I expected. Instead of a more traditional preparation, it was grilled with char marks and topped with au jus. The texture came out a bit rubbery and didn't really absorb the flavor well, which made that part of the dish underwhelming. Service was okay but not great. My water ran empty at one point, and I had to ask for a refill. We also ordered boneless wings as an appetizer and asked for extra ranch, which didn't come out until we reminded the server. The biggest issue, though, was something I noticed from our table with a partial view into the kitchen. An employee had their shoe up on a shelf that appeared to be holding clean dishes, which didn't come across as sanitary. I also saw food being adjusted on a plate by someone who didn't appear to be the cook. I can't speak to what's happening behind the scenes in terms of handwashing or procedures, but visually, it raised concerns. That part of the experience honestly left a bad impression. Between that, the missed items, and some inconsistencies with the food, it changed how I feel about coming back. My first visit had me excited to return, but after this one, I'm not sure I would.

For bar food it is absolutely fantastic. Get the lamb burger end of discussion.... The fries are also really good

Ok this place is a gem. I cannot get enough of how sweet the staff was and how amazing the food was. Not to mention they accommodate dogs in two different patios. Ryland was our server and is a national treasure. She helped serve us and our extra needs with ice for our dog due to the heat. The food was amazing. It was hearty and hit the spot well. The area is a perfect spot to hit for their nice dining options for indoors and outdoors and kind staff.

Traveling for work and decided to pop in here for dinner. Glad I did!!! I ordered the corned beef and cabbage plate. It was delicious! I sat at the bar and everyone was very friendly that works there. Lighting was perfect for the time of day and the restaurant stayed busy. Wine is good price. I would highly recommend when in town

5/5 Stars Had such a great time at Pappy McGregor's! This place gives off total Irish pub vibes--even though I've never been to Ireland, it feels like the real deal. I started with a whiskey sour, and wow--it was incredible. You can tell they use egg whites because of that silky foam top. It was one of the best I've had. I also did a pickleback shot (Jameson followed by pickle juice), which is always a favorite of mine, and they nailed it. For food, I ordered the tomato bisque soup, and it was next-level. The croutons were perfectly seasoned and crunchy, and it came with a grilled cheese sandwich that had crispy melted cheese on the outside of the bread--so flavorful and satisfying. The atmosphere here is awesome--cozy, lively, and welcoming. There's a separate bar area if you're just grabbing drinks, and they also offer patio seating, which is a nice option on warm evenings. The staff was super friendly and everything felt really well-organized. I even ended up buying some merch--a hoodie for me and a trucker hat for my partner. Both are great quality and a fun way to remember a great night. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Paso Robles and looking for a laid-back, delicious, and fun experience.

If you haven't tried Pappy's yet, go now! It's one of my fav Irish pubs and always my first stop when I visit the area. Everything on the menu is great and the staff is always on it. I usually sit in the bar (they have both high and low tables), they do have a dining room, and another back area with seating. I recommend coming early as they get busy. Lunch deals M-F 11am-3pm. Happy Hour: M-F 3-6pm Late night Happy Hour: Sun-Thur 9-11pm

Chicken pot pie with puff pastry crust.
    Paul G.

The sidewalk seating was packed, but the host got us an outdoor table in the back where we could bring our puppy. We dined on chicken pot pie (rich and delicious with a puff pastry crust), French onion soup (delicious with a subtle hint of wine), and a caesar salad -- all superb. The service was fast and polite. The other customers seemed boisterously pleased. We'll go back.

Short Rib Jalapeño Burger with Garlic Fries
    Jesse G.

First time here and love that they're open later than most places in this area. The waiter and bartender were cool and made the experience fun. Short Rib Jalapeño Burger 5/5: seriously delicious. The beer cheese smothering the burger was phenomenal. If there had been an egg on top, this would have been dangerous. Garlic Fries 5/5: garlicky just how I wanted with a snap to them like a baby carrot Guinness 4/5: they use this really cool laser to create designs on top of the foam. Unfortunately it leaves a taste that is not pleasant. Overall, would definitely recommend. Great food and great atmosphere.

Ask the Community - Pappy McGregor's

How late is the kitchen open for late evening grazing (on Sunday 12/29/24)?

Our kitchen closes at 9pm. But we offer personal pepperoni pizzas after the kitchen closes made by our bartender.

Will you have the us vs England game on Friday?

    Sorry, no we will not.

Do you have outside seating for cigar smoking?

Hi we do have a outdoor rear patio that we allow cigar smoking after dinner service 9pm or later Sunday-Thursday nights. Friday/Saturday nights we do not allow due to the large late night crowds we get.

    Do you guys do delivery?

Hi, no we don’t. There is a local company called Fetch, that will pick up orders for you and deliver. But we don’t work with any companies like Uber Eats or Grubhub.

    Do you serve Dingle Gin?

What is Dingle gin? Dingle Gin is a London dry gin with a unique character and flavour from the choice of botanicals delivering a fabulously fresh, floral character that…

I know they are busy, but geez...can the bartenders look up and interact with patrons once in awhile?

I had the same experience when I was there

First, you line up at the entrance, then you ring the doorbell, but only once as the sign warns. You are greeted through a peekaboo window in the door where they ask your party size. You are then taken in groups of three or less to a vestibule where they lock down your phones so you can't take any pictures and then you are seated in the dark and moody atmosphere. They don't split checks, so be ready to order as a group. There's a 90 minute time limit as well, so don't dawdle. Highlights of our order included the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned (so good!) and the Banana Daiquiri. We stayed for the full 90 minutes and when we left there was a long line waiting to get in. Go early if you want to get one of the few seats inside or be prepared to wait. We loved our experience.

We arrived just minutes after 5pm on a Thursday, with only one group ahead of us -- about a 5-minute wait before we were ushered in. They do check IDs, so bring one, or find somewhere else to drink. After the secret knock and moving a book in the entryway library, the door opens into a 1920s-style bar: heavy, dark wood, and very limited seating, with just 8 seats at the bar and two larger seating areas for groups. I believe our bartender's name was Matt -- the last of the original employees since Eleven Twenty-Two opened eight years ago. He was great, walking my girlfriend through the menu when she asked for recommendations, and sharing some great insight when we asked about the bar's history and the mixology behind the drinks. She started the evening with a Mexican Firing Squad -- very margarita-like, with tequila, lime, house-made grenadine, and Angostura. I wasn't quite as adventurous and wanted to keep things simple, so my first round was a martini, stirred and dry. The fun didn't stop there, since we had 90 minutes to relax before our dinner reservation. Round two was a Slow and Foamy -- a lemongrass- and fennel-infused vodka with egg white. It was an interesting drink; flavors you wouldn't expect to work together, worked together beautifully. It's an in-house creation by the female bartender, whose name I didn't catch. Torn between a Sidecar and a Manhattan, I went with the Sidecar, since I hadn't found a good one anywhere else in Paso. Matt poured a really nice one -- not too sweet, with a sugar-rimmed glass and well-balanced simple syrup. Like every drink that night, it was beautifully balanced. We finished with a Banana Daiquiri -- their unique take on the drink, without the slushy ice or fake banana flavor. This was probably the best drink of the night for both of us, and we shared it. It's not cheap, but a night out for drinks never is. That wouldn't stop me from bringing out-of-town guests here -- they'd love this kind of historical, speakeasy-style setting. I really appreciated the staff's attention and professionalism. We had a great time. Thanks, Eleven Twenty-Two!
