I LOVE Irish Pubs. I've traveled a lot, all around the world, and once I settle in, a pub is the first thing I look for. They have what I crave: Guinness, chow, atmosphere,... so I when I walked past Sammy's earlier on a Wednesday evening - it had a brisk business, I was excited, but when I came later, I was the only customer. It's a good place, good guys work there, downtown location, but without customer buzz, hard to really get into it. BUT of all the Pubs I've been to, I've never had a head on my Guinness like I got here! read more

Conveniently located on the corner of Morro Bay Blvd, Sammy J's is a newer Irish pub. Not like the old school cop bars in NYC but a decent place to stop and grab a drink. Service was great. Unfortunately the beer I wanted needed a new keg and since the new keg was not chilled it needed time to get cold... They do pour a good stout though. read more

We had an opportunity to check out Sammy J's on a trip to Morro Bay. My husband was born and raised in Boston so the signed, framed Larry Bird jersey caught our eye and drew us in. The first time we visited (on the same trip to Morro Bay) Trent was our bartender. He was very personable and kept the drinks and food flowing. On our second visit we had an opportunity to be served by Cesar who was equally personable. The owner and cook, John, came out from the kitchen and spoke with us, and with the other customers. We found out that the bar is named after his Grandfather and that Larry Bird is his favorite NBA player . I have to say the entire staff was a well-oiled machine and worked so well together, creating a positive vibe for their patrons and for each other; and the food is delicious! There are several items that we want to try on our next visit. Give Sammy J's a try next time you're in Morro Bay. We will definitely be back read more

We had seen this spot a few times before but never went in , this time we were passing by and saw that they had an event on tv that we wanted to see so we strolled in there , there was nobody inside and the bartender Ethen greeted us right away with a cheerful spirit asking us what we would like to drink, he is an awesome bartender!! He offered us the food menu which we got sweet potatoes fries very good and a steak taco , different but freshly made , it was loaded and very very good , it was similiar to a chalupa but way way better!!!we stayed there a from around 7 pm until 1030ish we walked back to our hotel room that was walking distance and had a womderful time at this chill bar !! Recommend its way better than the other two local bars!! Place inside has enough seating space and tvs if your looking for an event to watch !!! read more

Thrilled to have an Irish pub in town! The Shepherd's Pie was absolutely delicious--comforting, flavorful, and truly hit the spot. The bartender was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. I also had a great chat with one of the owners and really hope the pub becomes a long-lasting part of the community. If I could make one suggestion: lean even more into the Irish theme! I'd love to hear traditional Irish music playing--it would add such a rich, authentic vibe. The modern music was enjoyable, but part of what draws people to an Irish pub is that distinct cultural charm. Maybe even consider promoting some specialty Irish cocktails. And while the space is cozy, maybe there's room for the occasional live Irish music set or even a bit of dancing? That would be amazing. Thank you for opening up this wonderful venue! read more

Four of us just had an amazing lunch here today and everything and I mean everything was absolutely delicious! We had the Irish burger with massive amounts of bacon, the creamy broccoli, bacon, potato cheesy soup and an epic shepherds pie! The home made rolls with the soup and shepherds pie were so light and tasty! Oh and a nice chilled black and tan with decorated foam. They even have a way for you to customize the image on your drink! The staff and owners were friendly and inviting and you could tell that they love running this restaurant. Wow! My husband and I frequent Morro Bay and this is hands down one of our new favorite spots! We walked in on Saturday night with some friends and the place was busy, friendly, and smelled great! They are a new place and still gaining momentum, but I'd definitely have to say that they are a fantastic addition to Morro Bay! The food was awesome! If you are a fan of Shepherds Pie, I was highly recommend ordering it. We saw on their social media that they do other Irish dishes as daily specials and we were bummed we missed the Guinness Beef Stew one of the regulars was telling us about. We can't wait for our next trip back because this will be our first stop. read more

Stopped by for a glass or wine and a beer while Morro Bay was having their annual Halloween celebration for kids. What a great spot for a drink with loads of offerings on tap. Owners are welcoming and even offered us a sample of a Boysenberry seltzer--I will be back for that. It is Warm and friendly with a welcoming atmosphere. I am here a week in Morro Bay but will be back and give the food a try. read more

My stepdad and I go to breakfast every Sunday and today we decided to try Sammy J's, as we drive past every day and havent stopped in yet! The food is amazing! Service is fantastic, we didnt have to call anybody over, he was on top of it! We sat in the window and had a lovely view of MB and some football to watch too, which is always nice! Saw this place as I was driving through Morrow Bay. Popped in for lunch on a Saturday. Place was great , lots of people enjoying themselves. Had the cheese burger and mini sheppards pie. Nice little pub. Always greeted with a smile, great specials throughout the week. The owners John and Brynn are freaking awesome. They always go out of the way to say hello. Staff is always tentative and their drinks are awsome. Think I've tried almost everything on the menu, and I would do it again. Must try their Sundays all you can eat breakfast for $18. Can't get that anywhere on the central coast. Sunday breakfast was my morning ritual after church, it always made my day. Parking could be a little crazy, but it's worth a walk. So happy to have this place in Morro Bay! The ambiance is a great Irish bar with big windows to look out to the street. The decor is family pictures, other irish decor and several tv's with sports! The service has been great! They have had several road blocks opening and are still working out all the kinks, but the owners have experience and know what they are doing! The food was excellent! I had the shepherds pie and today Sunday a great special breakfast buffet! This is a great addition to our town and I look forward to seeing them evolve with our community! read more

Tried this place again and we were lucky to get there before the kitchen was closed....seems like they are still having problems maintaining a supply of food products. The kitchen shut down by 7...but we ordered the Cobb salad and the shepherds pie. Both were quite tasty, especially the shepherds pie. The salad was served on a dinner plate that had very little room to toss it. The draft beer was limited with only one IPA on tap. The owners are doing their best, but still need to work out some issues in having an adequate food supply. read more
