I used to really like this bar, I have several times met up with friends and had drinks, eaten here, and have had lunch here. Though the service was never the best, the food quality and drinks were worth it and ept me coming. But then on saturday for Halloween me and some friends decided to go out there and have a few drinks and see the costumes. I felt that a $15 cover per person was a little ridiculous but it was my friends birthday and my husband paid and just wanted everyine to have a good time. We walk in and it takes a minute but we get some drinks and make our way outside. My friend whose birthday it was ran into some friends of hers and we were all drinking. I had my wallet in one hand and a glass in the other so I asked my husband to put my wallet in his pocket so that I didn't drop it or lose. A bit later he went to dance and came back and noticed that my wallet was missing from his pocket. He went to the people that worked there and didn't get much help. One of the bouncers helped him out for a bit but no luck. They didn't really express any sympathy, the least they could've done was given us back our cover charge especially since now I have to get a new license and bank card and credit card. They never really seemed interested or even seemed to care. To me your customers should be valued and we definitely didn't feel that we mattered, and considering the amount of money we spent there getting drinks and shots that's too bad. So I guess we'll be looking for a new place now unfortunately. read more

Have always liked this place. Closed at 10:10pm on a Monday during the high season. Bartender told me I could have a beer if I "drank it quick". Wow! This review is way overdue... But we had such a bad experience here that we still think and talk about how bad it was despite the fact that its been 5 months. My husband and I ate here on Christmas eve with another married couple. My husband ordered some kind of kobe burger and I took 2 bites of his order just to taste it. The rest of us ordered seafood or other sandwiches. When we were paying, the waitress said that both of my debit card and my girlfriend's credit cards were declined. We were floored because we both knew that that wasn't possible. We double-checked our bank accounts and saw that there was already a processed debit transaction for the bill. The waitress said that it should cancel and not go through...which I thought was odd because mine was a debit card and it showed the money was already taken out. My friend gave a different debit card and just told the waitress to charge the whole bill to her card. We left after that and upon checking our accounts again later that night, we realized we really got triple-charged. Once on my debit card, once on her credit card and another on her debit card. We went back to complain and they weren't the best at apologizing or making p for it. They blamed it more on their credit card machine. To add insult to injury, my husband ended up getting major food poisoning and was sick for the next 5 days including of course Christmas day. The reason I know he got it from Pappy McGregor's is that the whole weekend, him and I ate exactly the same food...from family parties and other restaurants (we shared a pizza that night and he got sick the very next day)... I also got a little bit of an upset stomach and that's because of the 2 bites I had of his burger. Its very probable that the beef in that burger was bad. Overall just a really ugly, unpleasant experience. Not saying this is a bad place but that day was a lot of wrongs and not much rights. read more

I'm disappointed! My husband treated me and our kiddos to lunch here on Mother's Day. I've been here multiple times over the years and it seems that every time I go, it gets a little worse. Mother's day was the icing on the cake. The kids got placemats to color, but the server let us know they were out of crayons. She brought out an Etch-a-Sketch that looked like the last time it had been wiped down was in 1979. When it came time to order, the server let us know there were no kid's hamburgers available. She gave no alternative. I asked if we could perhaps have them make a regular hamburger and split it for the kids (which we did). ALL of our hamburgers were nearly burned although they were ordered "medium". The fries were all plain even though we asked for garlic fries, and all were totally cold. The server was friendly and informed us of the water policy (you have to ASK for water in CA nowadays). The chairs were SO LOOSE I thought they might fall apart (we are pretty small people). My six year old asked the server if they were rocking chairs (they aren't). I miss the old Crooked Kilt and original quality of food. This was a bummer experience on Mother's Day. read more

Thinking of going to Level 4 or Down Town Brew? DONT! Go here instead! The alcohol is less expensive and better mixed. The food is better, the music is better, and the dance floor is better. It's probably the best bar in this small town. Plenty of outdoor patio seating, and great DJ's throughout the week. The patrons are classier (and have all their teeth). The bartenders are friendly and the cocktail waitresses are cute. On our visits here they have always been busy and we had a great time! I have been supportive of your business since its inception, even though you don't cater to the gluten-free (gf) diet that I have to follow. It is humbling not being able to enjoy a meal like everyone else while enjoying music. Worse yet, Thursday night I ordered a drink and then was subsequently kicked to the curb--literally--for eating my own food. OK we have visited this place twice. The first was April 17th; we sat out front in the sidewalk seating on a beautiful day, the food was great the service was OK and you can't go very wrong with wine and beer to drink. We just returned yesterday (May 22nd) and the service was horrible. First we waited 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order (should have been a clue). We ordered our food and watched my beer sit at the bar for another 10 minutes. In the mean time another couple had come in and ordered their food at least 15 minutes after us, they were nearly finished with their meal and there was still no sign of our order. We complained to the waitress, who had spent the whole time saying sorry for this and that, and canceled our order. There's a sign in front of this place telling customers how they will behave; I think there needs to be something in the bar, waitress station and kitchen on providing good service to your paying customers (even the ones from out of town). We liked the place the first time but the second has really made the bigger impression, it demonstrates a lack of consistency and a lack of respect for customers; we will probably not go back. read more

We decided to go spontaneously while shopping up in Paso. It's a nice pub with good beer and good food. We had exceptional service not expected at this type of venue. The owner Donovan came up and introduced himself and was even bussing tables-impressed us. We ordered appetizers -calamari, wings, potato skins, and a chopped salad for 3 as well as some good beer of course (there is a full bar). Portions were very generous and we even had leftovers. Delicious. Saw some sandwiches and burgers coming out of the kitchen and they were huge. Definitely will revisit -about 40 minutes from our house so not around the corner but a great find. read more

This place was fun and serves great comfort foods! We split a half order of the original mac and cheese, the potato leek soup, and the kobe burger and followed it up with some oyster shooters. I had the blood orange mojito and my boyfriend had the bourbon smash. The mac and cheese was amazing and I was a little sad we had only ordered a half and that I had to share it. It was a perfect balance of cheesiness that was indulgent but not greasy. The potato leek soup looked a bit thin when it came out and I was a little worried because it's been creamier at other places but I did not need to worry. The soup had great flavor and there were plenty of potato and sausage chunks for both of us to have a hearty, tasty soup experience. The kobe burger was delicious as well and I always love egg and avocado on burgers. :) My blood orange mojito was really good in a minty citrusy way but my boyfriend (and I) did not care for his bourbon smash. It tasted a bit syrupy and more like sweet and sour than the orange and lemon juice would imply. It was also very weak. Overall, the place was fun and friendly and our server was attentive. I would definitely go back and I would order a full order of mac and cheese, probably the lobster mac and cheese because I heard that is fantastic but there were too many things we wanted to try for us to commit to that. :) read more

I have lived in Paso three months now and tried several different eating establishments. Pappy's is definitely not my favorite but seems to have the most potential. Between good live music, a decent outdoor dance floor/eating area, low cal mixed drinks, pretty good food, and atmosphere its almost as if they would have to try to make this place sub par. I've been here a total of three times and two of those times was to eat. The bar is desperately understaffed (2-3 bartenders serving 50 people), however our bartender was nice and worked as quickly as he could. There are also roughly three or four waitresses that were not the fastest as well as seemingly overwhelmed by their job. The first time, the waitress brought my wife a prime rib and mashed potatos that was cold, not luke warm but cold, and then proceded to say that, that is how medium rare prime ribs are (like ive never had one before also she didn't apologize for obvious mistake). Our appetizer was also brought out with main course. She then took it away and reheated it, I'm guessing in microwave. The next time we went the waitress did not write down the order and forgot the bacon I asked to be added on my jalapeno kobe burger, which tasted on par with a slightly better burger king whopper (no exaggeration and it was $14.95). To top it off the bacon was not freshly made and was cold. To end the night I ordered a piece of chocolate cake for me and my wife $9, thinking it would be big considering the price, however it wasnt. If it was a fine dining restraunt i can see the high cost but nine bucks for a small piece of chocolate cake (I believe the carrot cake was the same price) seems too much. I will go here again because of atmosphere, lack of options, and some of the food was good. If this place made some obvious and necessary changes they would be much better off. read more

I was extremely disappointed the last time I went to Pappy's. My best friend and I went on Thursday 9/15 for a drink around 9:30 since online it listed them open till 11:00. We got there and went to the bar to order, we were the only people at the bar who obviously needed to order a drink, the other people sitting at it had drinks already in front of them and yet the bartender ignored us. So for about 10 mins we stood there waiting, and then a group of people who were clearly friends with the bartender came in. He served ALL of them prior to us even though we had been there first and then tried to continue ignoring us until my best friend loudly stated what B.S. this was. And then it got WORSE. The bartender checked our ID's and because we're recently 21, and our ID's haven't expired yet they are upright instead of sideways. A man in the group of the bartender's friends just couldn't understand why our ID's looked like that so he asked, in a rude manner, to see them. The bartender handed this complete stranger my ID and my best friend's ID!! Are you kidding me?? That's my personal info on there not for him to go handing to some complete stranger. It was very violating and uncomfortable. How dare he go handing my ID to some strange man. I will not be going back anytime soon. This bartender has no idea what he's doing and is obviously awful at his job. It was such an awkward, and uncomfortable experience. read more

So frustrating... we arrived (party of 4) on a Sunday @ 10:30 am. Lots of seating open in the sidewalk cafe area, but the waitress out front tells us that it would be a 30 minute wait. No other people were waiting or standing around. We asked for coffee while we wait but she would not allow us to purchase coffee unless "we were a seated guest" this was crazy. So then the same waitress out front on the sidewalk gives us very minimal directions to their coffee shop 2 blocks away, which we never found. She also asked us for our cell number to text us when our table was ready however the only text we ever received was a "welcome" text as we walked away from her to find the coffee. We returned 27 minutes later to see her seating several groups and she didn't even remember who we were until we stated that we never received her text to be seated. She argued with us that she had sent it and that we would now have to wait another 20 minutes before a waitress could take our order. Needless to say I won't be back and I found a much better cup of coffee and breakfast and wonderful wait-staff at the nearby diner- Margie's Diner. Skip pappys all-together people. On New Year's Day my husband and I were majorly craving some good homemade comfort good. We hadn't been to Pappy McGregors for quite awhile and decided to go there before seeing a movie (gotta love this location). We are so glad we did! The service was great, the ambiance and drinks fun and the FOOD could not have been more piping hot and delicious. I can't say enough great things about this place and its staff! Ian is definitely the consummate bartender/caretaker of this little gem of a place. It seems to be the local popular watering hole and was definitely the place to be post-Wine Festival. Our first visit was on a sleepy weeknight and we enjoyed people-watching some local drunk people and Ian's finesse in handling them. When we came back after the festival, it was nothing short of chaotic, but we found a spot on the outdoor patio and had a wonderful experience listening/dancing to the band. I'm only sorry, after reading some of the food reviews, that we didn't eat a meal here. Oh well...definitely next time! read more
