Food is good. BBQ sauces are good but watery and lots of vinegar. Portions have gotten smaller but the prices have gotten higher of course. Good pickle, jalapeno, onion + toppings bar. Good service, lunch line basically. They have a drive-thru, but I've never tried it. Ambiance is casual lunch line style, pick your own table.

Great big space, plenty of seating for large parties or just a quick dinner out.. Food was fast yet fresh & amazing! I especially love the "salad bar" filled with onions, pickled jalepenos, pickles and have sauce areas to self serve their specialty sauces for dipping or pour on your delicious briskets and ribs ... The service was not bad, the line to order your food was like a school cafeteria like style but was confusing... you order with the first person and let them know what sides you want, but you go to the cashier and pay but have to retell them what you got, then have to wait and (scoot back in line in the way of others) t receiving your food order from the first person... was pretty hectic and felt rude to "cut in line" being in the way of each other... Overall, great foods! Large menu and cool atmosphere

Brisket and beef rib. Green beans and macaroni.

3 starts overall experience but food is a 2. The restaurant was nice and very clean with drive thru, to go, and or dine in option. The service was great. Very friendly staff. The food ... Beef rib was meaty, bland but tender. The brisket was tender but on the drier side and had no flavor. The sauces were not the tastiest I combined all three to get a nice flavor (spicy habanero, sweet original, and mustard). The bar with the onions, pickles, and peppers I loved it. If I had to try this place again I would get the baked potatoe with meat as I saw a bunch of people with that. I would also see if the chicken works be more flavorful. The macaroni was watery not good at all. The green beans were good but needed a pinch more salt/pepper or seasoning. The cantaloupe and watermelon juice was very good.

Portions are large, food is good, service about average, atmosphere is leaning towards loud. you won't leave hungry

I went in yesterday, Easter about 6 o'clock. I thought they close at six but they're open till nine. Yay. I ordered a three meat which was $21 with brisket, ribs, sausage beans, macaroni and cheese. They were out of bread thought that was weird for Easter, but I don't need any bread anyway I need to lose weight, so thanks for not having any bread and water and a slice of pecan pie that was out of this world only had a few bites and I have enough leftovers for today on a rainy day thank you to the employees at Pappas very fast efficient and everything was in my . Great job fresh n friendly

I was told I had to try this spot while traveling to Houston recently. My family and I checked it out & got the family platter with sides. The meat was okay, some pieces of the brisket were a bit dry & bland but the sausage was pretty good. I was not a fan of their barbecue sauce at all. But their fries!!!!! Their fries are absolutely delicious!!!

Not being from the area and being dropped off at a place with a drive thru, I was hesitant. But we walked into a big dining area and buffet style service. The sausage was the best and I've never had green beans cooked that perfect ever!

I definitely recommend 10/10 in flavor service was a little off because we were in a "middle of a shift change" and were missing a few things but at the end when we got everything it was delicious. The chicken sandwich come alone with a lot of slices of chicken and just bread, I had to order a side of lettuce and sauce but once together it's a to die for sandwhich definitely coming back for it.

This was our first time visiting Houston with our family, and we were excited to try some authentic Texas BBQ. We recently dined at Pappas Bar-B-Q and ordered the Family Combo. Surprisingly, there were only a few occupied tables inside. While the prices are reasonable, the quality left much to be desired. The meat was too dry and not to our taste. The dryness made it less enjoyable for us. This did not feel like authentic Texas BBQ. We hope the restaurant improves on this aspect. Overall, it's not the experience we were hoping for.

One of my favorite activities to do when visiting Texas is to try another one of the ubiquitous barbecue joints. While Pappas Bar-B-Q wasn't my top choice, it was open for business on a Monday which was why I stopped here. The first thing I noticed was this place had a drive-thru service. It's certainly convenient, especially when the weather is unpleasant like during my rainy lunchtime visit. The inside was cavernous, similar to many of the country ranch setups in this state. A menu board hung on the left wall where you lined up to order your food cafeteria-style. The variety of meat offerings blew away anything that the barbeque restaurants in my local area had to offer. It makes me envious when I see the vast array of choices that were also priced reasonably for the huge portion sizes. I maximized the sampling by selecting the Mixed Platter. Beef, ham, sausage, pork rib, and pulled pork were the proteins. Two sides came with the platter. My picks were the Texas Dirty Rice and Yams. The brown cafeteria tray was soon loaded up and off I went. A long station with self-serve condiments was a mandatory stop before I sat down at a table. Three types of sauce (spicy habanero, sweet original, tangy mustard) were available in glass bottles. I know some parts of Texas frown upon the use of sauces, period. I agree for the most part, but I did pour some of the sweet original into a little cup. Pickles, jalapenos, and white onions were among the free items you could add. The pork rib was the star of the meats. It was seasoned with black pepper and had a nice chewiness. The beef brisket and pulled pork were very tender while the sausage contained some mild spiciness. The ham was ordinary and didn't stand out. The yams were coated with brown sugar/molasses. I used the two pieces of complimentary white bread to sop up the sweet glaze from the yams. I enjoyed this barbeque experience and gave it a rating that was one star higher than the average from the other reviews. Check out my collection of Texas BBQ places that I have visited over the years. :) https://www.yelp.com/collection/YCMUOe-XuntfCEj7Q0oteg?utm_content=Collections&utm_source=ashare

I have to say that for BBQ Salads, Pappa's has one of the best. The salads are HUGE!!! With a LOT a lettuce and such, there is a lot of meat as well. So good. They add an olive mix, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, and some other iteams, each in a different area of the plate for those that don't like all of their foods touching. Dreasing is your choice. Blue cheese is great on it. The BBQ sauce, there is a table with several different types. Sweet regular, spicy.... But I didn't see a simple regular BBQ flavor, they all had a flavor or spice level. The sweet regular is good tho. The brisket tamales, if the location has them, are super good! Pickle bar for all to peruse. No spears tho, only slices, onions, and such. The location is ok, it's in a sketchy area, but the parking lot is very well lit. This one is big inside. Lots of space to sit, even on the Saturday night that we visited. Seems clean. You walk up and place your order and wait for it to be made. Doesn't take long. Once seated, you're on your own. Everything else is self serve, there isn't anyone that comes around to help or give assistance.

A little hard to find depending on where you are coming from. They are tugged behind the gas station and we almost missed it. Got their beef trio with green beans and yam and everything was delicious! I'm from out of town (CA) and was told that Texas bbq is best (with no sauce) and indeed it was super tender and flavorful.

This was the best meal I had my entire weekend! The place had ample parking. There was a solid staff cleaning, and the place was spotless. The front desk staff was helpful and patient with newbies, recommending menu items and accompaniments from the bar nearby. I had the chorizo breakfast taco and the pulled pork hash taco - I was delighted to find out that "hash" meant a delicious hash brown inside the taco. The egg was creamy and perfect inside a taco, the cheese was good, the meat was amazing. I don't think it's possible for me to be happier with roughly $9 in breakfast food. I will make it a point, even if it's not on my way, to visit Pit Room every time I'm in the Houston area going forward. It is a destination restaurant, in my opinion!

My wife and I had had a great experience at the Pit Room previously, so brought the rest of my family here to experience. I found the food to continue to be really good, especially the fatty brisket. Stopped by around 11 am, and there was still parking in the dedicated surface lot next to the building. The smell of bbq wasn't as prevalent as last time. Once walking in, you stand in line to first order your meat...which is immediately sliced in front of you. You then move further along to ask for your sides, including as many slices of plain white bread as you want. My daughter treated us this time, so didn't record prices, but thought it was reasonable. I liked the sliced brisket a lot, along with the side of elote corn and mac n cheese. The free toppings bar had the various pickled vegetables that really cut through the fattiness of the meat. Drinks were all self serve, with a water station and soda fountain. Probably ordered a bit less than expected for 4 people, but was happy that there were no left overs, and left not completely stuffed, since we had a long day ahead of us. By the time we left a little after noon, there was both a wait for tables and parking. We had come at the right time.

The brisket on the other hand was a little dry and I wish it had more flavor, but the sauce made up for it. We also got the Mac n cheese with brisket on top. They really did not skimp out on the brisket. It was very delicious and the Mac n cheese was perfectly creamy and decadent. They also pickles, pickled jalapeño, and onions on the side which really cut the fat from the meat. The coleslaw that we got was okay though. Overall, it was a great experience. All the employees were nice and patient with us since it was our first time here and we had some questions. The vibes were definitely there. Will def stop by here if we ever go to Texas again!!

I've tried those deemed "the best," including Salt Lick in Driftwood and Killen's. So how did CorkScrew measure up? In addition to the beef rib, we tried the moist brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. We also tried several sides, including those recommended in the Michelin review: potato salad, mac and cheese, smokey beans, and coleslaw, and I picked up a peach cobbler, as well. The beef rib: STELLAR. This was outstanding with its flavorful bark and an impossibly tender texture that truly melts in your mouth, unlike any other beef rib I've ever had. Easily the very best beef rib, without a doubt. The brisket was delicious, as well: tender and flavorful. The sausage was nothing special... on par with sausage elsewhere, as was the pork. As for the sides, I've never been a fan of beans, but since the Michelin review specifically mentioned them, I gave them a try. I'm a fan! I would definitely order these again. Their smokiness is gently tamed by a touch of sweetness. The rest? Very average. The mac and cheese tasted like the stuff I had in my elementary school cafeteria - very un-special. The potato salad was salty and was missing any semblance of potato chunks. The texture was oddly like lumpy mashed potatoes. But the other surprise for me: the cobbler. This was simply and divinely perfect with crisp, sweet buttery crumble. A wonderful way to end a hearty meal. I'm so glad I ordered our food online for pickup. When I arrived at 1pm, the line was wrapped around the building. Pickup was very easy: I texted them when I arrived, and they replied when they were ready for me to go in and retrieve it. But even if there wasn't a line, I would never eat there: the restaurant is too divey for me: very rustic, picnic-like feel both inside and out, and it was uncomfortably warm and humid (again, inside and out.) The staff was very friendly and cheerful. Glad i tried it, and when i get a hankering for a good beef rib, this is definitely where I'll be getting it!

The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together.
