We got bbq baked potatoes here for our work crew. Here's our take: Way smaller potatoes than what they were last time I was there. Imitation bacon bits, no excuse. Very small amount of meat, very bland Hardly any chives, like only saw a couple Asked for sauce on the side, seems simple but nope, sauce was on top. Asked for sour cream on the side, got 2 tiny spoonfuls for 6 mens lunch to share. Long story short, nobody here at work ever wants to spend their money there again. Discovered this little gem on the opposite side of town from me where I used to live in Houston. Kings BBQ doesn't look like much on the outside. It's a mom and pops style restaurant with a southern home feel. Their menu and specials are at the front counter with plenty to choose from. I went with the 2-meat route with 2 sides and a roll. I asked for the brisket and the pork ribs with a side of loaded potatoes and fried okra. I also ordered 3 boudin balls. The brisket was moist. The pork ribs were very tender and fell off the bone nicely. The loaded potatoes were on point and cheese. The favorite of the night for me was the fried okra. Not sure if it was because I hadn't had it in so long, or it was just that good. You get good big portions too. The staff behind the counter will also ask if you want BBQ sauce on the side or on top of your meat. Not sure if they only had one option for BBQ sauce, but I didn't ask since it was my first time and just getting the feel for this place. Sweet or unsweet teas, lemonades, and fountain sodas are to the left of you once you pay at the end of the counter. The staff is super nice and friendly and will come take your trays of food after you're gone. The decor inside is definitely a small-town southern feel with the red checkered tablecloths. There are a few TVs so you can catch current games or news. The restrooms may need a little work, but it still functions. Overall, Kings is a good place for a quick lunch, pick up dinner for your family, or a simple gathering. Support your locals and leave with a happy tummy! read more

My 92-year-old father hadn't had BBQ in a long while so I stopped at King's BBQ and picked up two chopped brisket sandwiches for him and Lisa and for myself I saw you could get it as a quesadilla for $0.60 more. I also picked up some potato salad and a banana cream pie serving for him. The brisket was a bit dry but good flavor, it needed the BBQ sauce they gave separately. The quesadilla with the meat added was the better deal with a huge amount and a pile of lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream to put on it, but really the BBQ sauce was the best adornment. The potato salad is very good, just like my Mom and relatives used to make but blended more smooth. Very good flavors, pretty fast ordering, like everywhere else prices have gone up. read more

The first time I went to Kings I was very excited because friends had recommended this restaurant. The day I had lunch at Kings, I had brisket, and it was so tough and dry that even the barbecue sauce didn't help much. Also the woman behind the counter was extremely abrupt and abrasive, and not very friendly. I thought wow maybe it's just not a good day, maybe it's because they have a new cook not sure. So a few weeks later I return to Kings Bbq, hoping for the best. But again I was very disappointed this time the brisket was even drier, the sauce did not help. I tried the ribs and they weren't good either and the woman behind the counter was again very abrupt and not very customer service oriented. I think I'll go to Tony's bbq instead. read more

Stopped in for lunch and had a very good sliced brisket sandwich that was reasonably priced at only $4.55. Fresh bread, loaded with tender flavorful brisket. It's a solid sandwich. The fixins bar had all the standard fair. Everything looked very fresh and the area was clean. I had ordered the BBQ sauce on the side so I could use it as a dip for my fires. Unfortunately the fries were pretty bad. They tasted old and stale. The BBQ sauce was good but couldn't save the fries. The restaurant was very clean, friendly employees and plenty of parking. Next time I'm in the Deer Park / La Porte area I will be back for another tasty sandwich but will have to pass on the fries. read more

Let me start this review by saying I live inside the loop, so I frequent places like truth bbq, the pit room, etc. The service isn't even comparable to how we were treated here! I would give them a 1000 star rating if I could... they went above and beyond with recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed. They even let us sample a couple of items we were curious about. I wish I had pictures to share but I was so hungry I didn't even think of taking one. The ribs were AMAZING! Fall off the bone tender... on par with ribs at much more expensive places, PLEASE get the ribs if you come here. The jalapeño sausage and regular sausage was also delicious, ask for "moist" brisket, it's much tastier, and the chicken was yummy! My favorite side was the ranch style potatoes, these will not disappoint! If you're into corn, the creamy corn was scrumptious, and If you're picky about Mac and cheese, I'll be honest, it wasn't anything to rave about. The place is extremely clean and the condiment bar is always stocked and fresh. Definitely recommend for the price, I would've paid about $85 at any of the above mentioned places for the amount of food we got here, which we paid $42 for. This is the third time we come here, and it's been consistent every time. PS: the chicken gumbo is amazing! Try that too. read more

On my quest to bring you the best BBQ Houston has to offer today i was in the Deer Park area and while driving on Underwood i came across Kings BBQ this is the same owner that has the original location in La Porte and i had been to that one a few years back which from what i can remember was pretty good when walking in the restaurant i was greeted right away and the young lady told me that i was going to be treated to the best BBQ in Deer Park and i took that for a good sign.. I looked at the menu and me being a value person meaning that i wanna get more bang for my buck i noticed the combo plate 2, 3, and 4 meats with two sides, I went for the 3 meats that only cost $10.99 and i began to think how other BBQ joints are really raping their customers for what they call craft BBQ for a $22 lb of just brisket with no sides or a drink... Well my choice meats were Brisket, Ribs, and Pork my sides being beans and rice. when i got my plate i noticed the Southern Pride smoker with the meats coming right off the pit and i knew i was going to be in for a treat first up was the brisket and to me i think it was a little on the dry side and i was given the flat when i asked for the point. lucky they gave me a sauce to dip to give it some favor all in all it was not the best brisket I've tasted. up next was the pulled pork and again i was disappointed the pork was was dried out and again i have to dip it in the sauce to give it favor. Last was the Ribs and i was hoping that they would redeem themselves and i can just caulk this visit up to a bad night which most places do have from time to time... The rib was on point and it had great smoke and a good bite i was really happy that they got that right. I do remember the one in La Porte being so much better and i was just thinking to myself that it could of just been a bad night of smoking the meat that made the brisket and pork taste the way it did... but for the low price it was worth it the sides were really good and the beans and rice to me were the best sides I've had in a long time.. Price wise your looking at $8.99 for ribs, Half Chicken $7.75, Sausage $8.75 and Brisket . Before i left i talked to the Pitmaster which happen to be the owner and i told him about my experience and he assured me that the BBQ dont always turn out that way and i told him i understood and would come back again to give it another shot in the future. Got the two meat plate with sliced brisket and sausage. They cut it really thin, got it with the sauce on the side. Need to taste the flavor of the meat alone. Brisket, could've used some more flavor, had to dip it in the bbq sauce. Sausage was better had more flavor. No bread ? Side of Mac and cheese , didn't have any real cheese flavor, Kraft Mac and cheese? Dirty rice was better, a little on the dry side. Like my dirty rice more moist and with veggies cooked in them. Three things I look for when dining are quality of service, presentation of food, and taste of food. If those three metrics are present, you can rest assured a good review will happen. When one of those three key things are so terribly poor, my tendency is to allow it to influence the other two. Tonight, my wife, daughter and I walked in to King's BBQ, in search for a good loaded baked potato, and the service was piss poor, even bordering on hellaciously offensive. From the first interaction with the order-taking meat cutter, who appeared bothered by our presence in his line and every order we placed apparently pissed him off even more, to the cashier who gave me an attitude for signing my checkout receipt with a sharpie marker because she didn't have an ink pen, the staff here is forgetting one very important thing: they are here to serve their customers. I didn't walk in their door to buy their mediocre, rubbery barbeque with a huge side of bad attitude. Nowhere on the menu did I see "Asshole Attitudes Included At No Extra Charge" but I very well expect their owners should consider doing so. I've had less attitude and better service at Burger King, and I long consider my local BK to be the bottom of the barrel. To summarize: fuck this place. My dollars will never again touch their registers, even if they're the only restaurant left in town after an apocalyptic event. read more

Went here a few days ago with my fiancé after he talked it up. I was disappointed. It's lubys style. Everything is in hot pans, and you tell them what you want. I got the 2 meat 2 side combo, with an extra side and my fiancé got the same thing without an extra side. I got chicken and brisket. Potatoes, Mac n cheese and okra. The okra was not hot and not fresh. Nothing was fresh in fact. It tasted ok. But I wasn't impressed. I certainly wasn't $10 plate impressed. Idk if I'll give it a second chance. read more

Took the family today for the first time and we did like the flavor very much. We caught the end of lunch hour rush but it wasn't bad at all. I like for everyone to eat at the same time and it took my daughters chicken strips a few minutes to come out additionally I had to remind them about my side order of fries. We had the sliced BBQ sandwich and we impressed with the serving along with the corn. I'm a bit picky on potato salad so it was nothing extravagant for me. But the only real complaint was the that was working the register. She had a very pissy attitude and it was extremely apparent.
