    Receipt - 6 Rib plate
    VJ N.

Beef Ribs. I grew up coming here in the 80s for beef ribs. While driving through Houston, I was finally able to go back. No nonsense, retro, homey place. Great and friendly service. Sweet potato casserole and cobblers are also top notch.

We had to try Joe's because we heard they have the best bbq in town. I have to say, my hubby was totally pleased with his plate. He had the beef ribs and loved them. He also ordered the sweet potato casserole and was totally impressed by it. Another customer on the line told us we needed to try it and she was on target. It was delicious. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and I was a little disappointed that it took almost 15 minutes to come to the table. BUT...the chicken was very moist and super delicious, so I guess it was worth waiting for. The service was good and I love how the place is decorated. I would definitely stop there again.

We always try to visit places where locals go, when traveling (always staying away from tourist traps), and this spot did not disappoint. The restaurant has an almost 50 year history, and the ambiance to match. We had ribs, sausages and brisket mainly, with bunch of sides, and everything was on point. As far as service, you have to sand in line to order, and bring the meats and drinks to your table, but rest of the sides were brought to the table, and she made sure everyone had everything they needed, the entire time we were there. Thank you for a great meal!

Great food so come prepared to stand in line. After getting food, sit down and someone is there checking to see if you need anything. Then you pay as you're leaving. Nice set up. Atmosphere is fantastic! So much to see! I will come again and again.

The spot looks like it's been around for a long while. Decorated in old signs, animal heads and other random memorabilia the place has a great vintage VIBE. The SERVICE is great. The ladies at the bar were helpful and the waitress working the main dining room was very attentive and polite. The food was good. The slice brisket had a great flavor and good bark. My friend ordered a cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was HUGE and came with a healthy side of fries. PRICE for bbq is comparable to other places. Solid spot if you are in the area and hungry.

This was the 3 meat plate. I was given.

Well first let just say eat there and then take your food to go. I stood there for over 30mins waiting on my food to get ready. I ordered 3 meals total. The person at the first could not get my order correct. I asked her several times to repeat it but she was not paying attention to me. We called in advance because we wanted burnt ends on our plate. They said they could do it for us. When I got there the cashier/order taker asked the ppl on the line working next to her and they said no...then after asked several ppl if it was OK to cut the end of the brisket?? Finally I explained I called and someone said it would not be and issue but it was.. they showed me a plate full of burnt ends which I though were going on the plate but once the plate was made not even a 1/4 of what was on the plate. Made it to my to go contenter..I was so embarrassed when the plate was opened. I saw ppl walking by me with plates of meat running over in the restaurant...but my to go plate once I got it home was cold from sitting out and waiting for the remainder of my ordered to get ready.. plus I was so disappointed because the plate looked like table scrapes not a meal I just spent hard earned money on. It was suppose to be a three meat plate with ribs, sausages, and burnt ends. From now on I will just continue to go to the place I usually go. This was not worth the wait or the money. All plates should be made equally. I'll just say that..also if you have to wait for food. I would think the last meal would be made once everything else is done especially of its on the line in front of ppl that can do so..but anyways remember ppl only go out to restaurants for a good exchange, food, customers service, and convenience are that exchange for our dollars. Do better. I saw other ppl plates so I know you can.

Just moving to Texas, I was told to come here for BBQ. Upon arriving for lunch there was a line, but that is always a good sign, right? I was excited to see they offered BBQ pork. I feel like that is hard to come by in Texas. The cashier was a younger male, very push and quick to get us through the line. I told him it was our first time and I was asking for recommendations, but he seemed like he was less then interested. I was just trying to keep up with the process of ordering, getting the food, and my drink. I grabbed a table and a waitress came out to offer bread and cornbread. She was amazing and attentive with drink refills and anything else we needed. You pay before you leave and I was able to snag some bones for my dogs. I knew they would be thrilled for a treat. The food was good, but the mac and cheese was cold. I did enjoy the potato salad. I ordered the turkey and bbq pork. I thought the turkey was the winner over the bbq pork. The restaurant is super nostalgic inside.

Excellent food, service & atmosphere! Quality & quantity 10/10. Everything was SO GOOD hard to pick a favorite but the sweet potato casserole was outta this world!

You just don't see that often and I wanted to try it. The stars aligned and my family and I met up here for a weeknight dinner. Alvin is the true definition of a small town. It is just south of Pearland and life moves a little slower out here. Atleast for time being as it is becoming more developed now. The building itself is old and full of character. Everyone seemed to know each other. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, but service was a tad bit slow at times. My family isn't a big drinking family so we stuck with water and sodas, but they have quite a nice bar program here. They have a really impressive beer selection, a long list of specialty cocktails and lots of wine to choose from. I'm definitely coming back to check that out without the fam. For appetizers, we got an order of the scotch eggs and the Bavarian pretzel sticks. This was my first introduction to scotch eggs and a wonderful one at that. You really can't go wrong with anything wrapped in sausage and deep friend. It was a nice treat and something I will not be sharing next time. The pretzels were also very good. Our waitress suggested some cheese sauce to accompany those. These sticks of goodness were excellent. For my entree, I was stuck on a few items as their menu is pretty extensive. Our waitress said my option for the Pork Milanesa was the way to go, so I did. I've had milanesa at Mexican restaurants, but never in a tavern nor prepared this way. This was hand battered in panko and then topped with a mushroom gravy. It comes with broccoli and mashed potatoes but I substituted the veggie for mac and cheese. This dish was very good and the portions were very generous. Enough for me to have a full second meal minus the sides. The pork was thinly pounded and kept it's crunch even doused in gravy. The gravy was rich and very delicious. My family got a mix of items like the philly cheese steak, flat iron steak salad, tavern salad, and chicken fried steak. For research purposes and for my loyal readers, I tried everything. There wasn't anything that was bad to me. We were full so desserts didn't happen on this trip. Overall, Gordon Street Tavern is a solid spot that I would happily return to if in the area.

My friend had a strawberry shake (hey Mikey's ice cream) and she didn't like the flavor and there were no real strawberries in it for $10. She's a DQ kinda girl, so don't take her opinion to heart. I finished her shake (oink) and it was yummy! (.50 cents of every shake sold goes to Kidz Harbor) Real nice staff. Bible verses everywhere. The owners are Adrian Hembree and VJ Nandlal who were on the wrong road back in the day and didn't have God in their lives; once blind now they see! They buy their meat from local ranchers and ice cream from a local ice cream shop. The chicken breading is great and it is nice and crispy. The chicken breast was juicy and came out nice and hot. They put the gravy on the side so its perfect to dip. Mashed potatoes: The mashed potatoes were great. They are smooth with no skin or chunks inside. The gravy came on top which added great flavor. Mac and Cheese: My mac and cheese came out a little cold but it was alright. It wasn't extremely cheesy either, it just tasted a little plain for my taste. I wish it was more cheesy and warmer.
