Monterey Chicken with spinach, fried okra, and Texas toast

T-Bone Tom's is one of those places that just has personality, and I still love it after all these years. I used to come here all the time with an ex-boyfriend but haven't been back in years. I made the drive from Katy to Bacliff to pick up some vintage garden trellises, and at just two miles away, I immediately knew lunch had to be at T-Bone Tom's. One of my favorite things about this place is the absolutely massive outdoor seating area. It's covered, so normally it's a fantastic place to sit without roasting in direct sun, but after several days of heavy rain mixed with Houston humidity and temperatures around 90 degrees, there was absolutely no convincing anyone in my party that sitting outside for lunch was a good idea. Only my second time ever sitting indoors here. The place was already bustling by 11:30 and packed by noon, which tells you everything you need to know. We were greeted immediately when we arrived, and even though we came through the back entrance for patio seating, the hostess was cheerful and accompanied us to the dining room, where we were also immediately greeted by one of the indoor hostesses. Our server Joshua was excellent throughout the meal--friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and always on top of things. We started with drinks and boudin balls, which came with four and ranch dressing. I tend to go through phases of what I'm addicted to, and right now it's boudin balls. If it's on the menu, I'm ordering them. These were fried to perfection, hot, and delicious. A great appetizer to start the meal. While we waited to order our main course, there were two things our table seemed to rave about: giant drink glasses and crackers. It sounds silly, but not having to constantly wait around for refills makes a big difference. And crackers on the table? It seemed like memory lane for the older members of our party, who quite enjoy bits of nostalgia. So few restaurants bother doing little things like that anymore, so my lunch selection was awarding me kudos before the lunch even started! Mom and Mark split the 14 oz. ribeye with spinach and potato salad. Although splitting two sides might have been enough, Mom added a side of mashed potatoes for herself. It's always a toss up with restaurants and steak. True mediums aren't always a true medium--you have to order medium rare or medium well to get it just right. But the medium here is actually a medium. Mom kept talking about how delicious the steak was and said it was one of the best she's had in a long time. If you know my mom, compliments don't come easy. It's a big deal. Ha. I ordered the plate I always get: the Monterey chicken with fried okra and spinach. It may have been years since I was last here, but this dish is as excellent as it has always been, if not better. The chicken was incredibly tender, cooked perfectly, and covered with flavorful mushrooms and onions. I also really love that their vegetables are homemade rather than straight out of a freezer bag. The fried okra and fresh spinach were wonderful. Berta ordered the chopped beef sandwich with potato salad. They gave her so much beef, there was enough for two people to enjoy that plate. She ended up taking more than half home. We finished the meal with vanilla ice cream and their infamous bread pudding, which was warm, rich, and easily enough dessert for four people to share. Mom had ordered it for herself and said she didn't want to share, but when she saw how big the portion was, she asked Berta and I to join in. T-Bone Tom's is a popular place among locals and tourists alike. It offers great food, a fun atmosphere, friendly service, and remains one of those places that still feels uniquely Texas in the best possible way. We'll definitely be back, and much sooner this time!

My husband and I had dinner at T-Bone Tom's, and the place is huge, lively, and full of fun energy with live music, drinks, and that classic BBQ atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and service moved quickly. We started with the brisket queso, which came out velvety, smoky, and incredibly flavorful, easily the standout of the night. Everything was above expectations for Tbone toms. The outside makes it look kind of dingy but it's truly a hidden gem and super charming inside. The waitstaff was amazing at timeliness, checking in on us, and making great recommendations. The food was amazing in terms of flavor and came out at all the right temps. I really enjoyed the chargrilled chicken and smoked turkey breast. They were both perfectly juicy and tender. They have live music out on the porch and it's such a nice chill vibe. The margs were amazing and love the happy hour marg too. Came back twice!!

This place has been for a while, with good reason. The food is really good. I tried the sandwich that comes with ribs on top and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Only hiccup was the waitress charging an adult chicken tender/finger meal for my daughter who is 10 and ordered from the kids menu. They did fix it but hate to have to deal with that and bring it up.

Came down from HTX and came together for dinner here after an active day. Ordered grilled pork chops, they give you 2. Can't complain for the great hearty portions. My bf got the fried seafood plate. All solid options. The service was attentive and friendly inside and outside had a live band that had the whole patio full, definitely dining their next visit.

Brought my Father for Father's Day for a steak and he ordered the chopped steak instead! Overall food was okay, brisket was very good but honestly tasted warmed up as did the ribs. Gumbo was not our favorite. Sides were amazing....mac & cheese is all that m&c should be, creamy, piping hot...very good. Fries tasted homemade, fresh cut, very tasty. Potato salad, coleslaw, green beans all very good. Ordered tea, very good and a few Budweisers. Overall food was okay, I feel could definitely step it up a few notches. I will say though, service was wonderful! Waitress gave great suggestions, we were seated promptly, and manager stopped by our table to check in on our meal. Ambiance was laid back, very inviting. Will we be back, for sure...definitely open to try some other items on the menu.

10/10 hamburger steak 7/10 Chicken and sausage gumbo Last time I was out here I had the hamburger steak and it was really good. I ordered it again today and it was almost better this time around. The hamburger patty had more char and enhanced the flavor. The Louisiana Purchase appetizer was good but I have had better gumbo. There was a lot of chicken and sausage. The broth lacked some seasoning but when I'm feeling sick, I would love to have this specific gumbo because it's a light flavored broth. We also got our usual order of armadillo eggs and over the years they have been getting smaller in size. I would say when we first came out 10 years ago, they were as big as a pear. Now they are getting closer to the size of real chicken eggs! Needless to say, they are still the best armadillo eggs. Honestly, I've been all across the country and no one makes jalapeño wrapped brisket balls!

Went to T-Bone Tom's for lunch and enjoyed their salmon for the first time. It was delicious. Perfectly cooked. The chipotle butter glaze was flavorful and really complemented the salmon. It was served with rice and I also got the green beans and the spinach. Both were excellent. Kiddo got the double patty Paradise burger and said it was one of the best burgers he has eaten. We sat in one of their little red booths. I love them and will definitely sit there again. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. read more

I was looking for a pork chop sandwich and seen go to TBone Tom's for a a pork chop Dinner on Wed from facebook. I will never return there. They are rude af because it was 10pm and they wanted to close but close at 11 per their website. Then I guess the manager was locking all the doors and didnt greet me but was like a bothered greet of did you have a to go order? and then I go get my food and the mash potatoes don't come with gravy so, I asked for a side so and she said will the ticket didnt say you wanted gravy and it honestly didn't ask-online order. But when I asked for a side she didn't say anything and started to tap the screen and the manager was there telling someone else to get the gravy. Then she was like it's going to be .99 cents and I was fine with that so I was ready with my phone for tap to pay since I ordered online and she she was like we don't do tap to pay so I was like well I guess never mind then and instead of the manager right there being like oh okay its the end or the night go ahead and add a little to the mash potatoes he starts yelling to cancel the gravy. And then she leaves to go cancel the gravy instead of bagging my food. Yea yall can keep that. Mind you them porkchops still pinks smh. Nope read more

We were on vacation and found this spot. It was delicious and the service was absolutely great. Our waitress was super friendly and answered any of our questions about the menu. My husband loved his steak and I had the best chicken fried steak I have had in a while. Definitely recommend if you are in town. read more

This is the 2nd time we've eaten here. The 1st time was probably 6 or 7 years ago. Horrible food, swore we'd never go back. Dumb us we went again tonight. I had the seafood schooner. More like the "mystery plater". Everything was just thrown onto the plate. The worst part was the fries catfish was paper thin on the slab and all batter. My son had burger and fries. My wife had the filet. That was really good. As for my son's burger, 4 or so hours later throwing up. Of course food poisoning. He did say the meat had a different taste than other places. Live and learn right? Will not be back read more

Absolutely amazing place! The blackened catfish was off the chart good! Didn't get a picture but get a side of grilled shrimp as well! Excellent service all the way around. Place has been there since 1974 and the nostalgia of the restaurant will take you back in time. read more

We went to T-Bone Tom's for Happy Hour which had great prices on their wine and beer. We had fried pickles for our appetizer, and they were perfectly fried. I had the shrimp cocktail that had a large portion of bay shrimp. I would have preferred three or four large shrimp instead. My hubby had a brisket taco and a fish taco--both had a lot of meat and fish. He said they were both excellent. The ambiance is Texas casual and well done. The service was prompt and pleasant. Great name, great reputation and the place was even on DDD!!! I had the marbled brisket with ribs and sausage. I want impressed with the BBQ sauce especially being in Texas! It too close to ketchup. The meat was good though. We were there for a birthday party and waitress didn't rush us and let us take our time. They even kept our cake in the fridge until we were ready for it. read more

Food is soooo good Brian was our server much love. You're lucky if he's your server. Lol, I LOVE fried okra. I'm a horrible cook, i usually end up overcooking my okra. That's how I like it. Brian understood and took care of me. He made me a fresh cup of coffee. We had just returned from a cruise and were starving. Luggage in the car and headed to T-Bone Tom's. Been coming here for years, always solid. Steaks are excellent, the bbq offerings are great. Service is usually great but last time they forgot about me a while. The Food and service were excellent! We ate around 4 PM on a Saturday. We like that it had been a featured restaurant on DDD! We ordered the Armadillo Eggs for an appetizer and shared a Porterhouse steak with sides of mashed potatoes and fried okra. It was all wonderful! read more

You can't go wrong with T-Bone Tom's if visiting the Kemah area! Have been here many times over the years and the services and food are consistently excellent. They have a large outdoor area for seating with cabana roofing to enjoy live bands almost any giving night. Great food and drink specials everyday of the week. I highly recommend the Armadillo eggs as an appetizer and have not had an entree here that I didn't enjoy. read more

We ordered a prime rib with baked potato. The steak was "to die for" if I could, I would have ordered two. It was a medium cooked but very very tender. The service was excellent and checked in with us but not being a nuisance. The atmosphere was nice. Not loud. Options to sit inside or outside. Definitely ordering the Tom Rib eye next time. read more

The service was excellent. We had a lovely waitress. She made sure our coffee and water and juice were full and that we were satisfied with our meals. This brand is rather consistent now between the Katiy/Fuller operation and now the chemo operation. I would highly recommend either one. The ambience is typical of all saltgrass restaurants. Very Texan oriented and really very pleasant and this one has a significant advantage in that you're overlooking Galveston Bay, which is actually quite lovely. This is not a restaurant to be missed if you happen to be in the Kema area for breakfast. I can't speak to the remainder of the meals, but there's no reason to suspect that if their breakfast is as good as it is there lunch and dinner are likely close and the convenience within Caya is undoubtable.

We hung up, and naturally I believed everything was confirmed. The next morning, we arrived on time for our reservation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere already felt uncomfortable. The staff stared at us without greeting us until a woman finally approached and asked if we needed something. I gave the reservation name, and she looked through a notebook full of scribbled notes before saying she couldn't find it and would get the manager. A man came over, asked for my name again, and then bluntly stated, "We don't have you on the list. We're fully booked until 8pm." I was honestly shocked, especially because I had specifically called the night before to confirm everything. Instead of apologizing or trying to help resolve the situation, his demeanor felt cold, dismissive, and as though we were inconveniencing them simply by showing up for a reservation we had made and confirmed. He then stated, "We emailed you stating this." Because there was already a line forming behind us, I simply said "okay" and walked out. As we were walking to the car, I checked my email -- and sure enough, the "email" had been sent at 9:55am THAT SAME MORNING. Our reservation was for 11am. Cancelling a reservation barely an hour beforehand on Mother's Day, after I had already called to confirm the reservation the previous night, was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. This was supposed to be our first time trying this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience and the way the situation was handled left a very sour impression before we even sat down.

There are way better places to eat in Kemah. We had to wait for 2 hours to be seated. The menu had fried food that makes you think you are no where a beach. After seated we got our app and drinks from the waiter which was supee nice. We were seated outside under the hut. It was super hot, and they did not have fans blowing in our direction. After seeing a family leave a table were one of the fans was blowing, we moved in our direction. No big deal becuase family on the table had already left. Well a customer out of no where, after the 30 min the fan was on us decides to move in her direction. She was not inder the hut, which os a little cooler. We had a 2 year old with us. Qe decided to move back in our direction when a male manager yells at us tellimg us we can not move fan. He did not know the story of us having fan blowing in our directions. He was very rude and had lady manager back him up. Instead of coming with a accommodating idea they both were rude. Food is fries food and customer is no good. Better restaurants. T-Bone Tom's is such a gem! We first heard about it from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and it absolutely lives up to the hype. The food is beyond yummy--everything is cooked to perfection and the portions are generous. They also make amazing drinks that perfectly complement the meal! The atmosphere is just as great as the food. It's very family-friendly, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the fun décor makes it such a welcoming place. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and you can tell they genuinely enjoy working there. What keeps us coming back is the consistency--the food and drinks are always delicious, no matter what we order. T-Bone Tom's has quickly become a favorite spot for our family, and it's easy to see why it earned a feature on TV. Highly recommend! read more

Just got home from T-Bone Toms and had to notify all you yelpers. T-Bone Toms in Kemah Texas is awesome! My girlfriend has the fried shrimp and she loved them. Bob had a ribeye steak and he was it was one of the best he ever had, cooked medium rare, i think is what he said. His wife had I think the grilled chicken salad and she ate every bit and she's on a diet. We sat outside and they are adding a new palm covered roof out there and it is cool looking. Our waiter had a couple tatoos, but was very nice and prompt. The Bread pudding was to die for. 5 stars for T-Bone Toms....our favorite restaurant.....and we live in North Houston... read more

Came here with my friends while vacationing in Galveston. They were one of the few places that were open at midnight and we didn't want Denny's. First I thought it was closed, considering it was empty inside but no, in the back the patio was lit up with music playing. Hands down, it was fantastic, the staff was great, not to mention that the food was fantastic. I'm from Dallas but I wouldn't mind going back over there. That's how great it is. read more

I went during holiday weekend while I was back visiting family. Been here many times before. Enjoy the homemade sausage and barbaque sauce. I always find the service to be quick and my ice tea glass is never empty. The food was a little cold and the place needs a good cleaning. They also raised the prices recently so a little disappointed. Food is still fairly good. read more

I have been going here for years. I went here for the first time when I was 20 years old. It was a regular hang out when I worked in Kemah and needed a place to relax after work. Now that I am a working mom and wife, my whole family loves to eat here. It is wonderful that TBone's has been my favorite through so many different parts of my life!!!! read more

Everything about this restaurant was great. The place was clean and smelled good. The staff and greeter was very nice. Our waiter was awesome, the staff also worked as a team in bringing and cleaning up our food. The food was fresh and awesome. Then we also had dessert and that was really good as well. It's acceptable, but not great. When you drive by and see that it was on "Diner's Drive's and Dive's" you think, this must be awesome! False, it's not that great... nothing to capitalize on. The barbecue sucks, the sandwiches are gross, and most importantly the signature food seen on DDD, are terrible. read more

NEAT PLACE. Right next to the boardwalk, so good for a stop in as well. If you are looking for a great home cooked meal this is a must. Deffinitely a welcoming scene, friendly staff, great waitor (thomas). Will have to stop back by on our way through next time. read more

Best part about this place is the White Gravy! It is soooo yummy. Only suggestion I would make would to be eat inside not outside. The service outside leaves a little to be desired. read more

Classic place for good BBQ in Kemah. Easy access via HY 225. French fries are too salty so don't order them if you have blood pressure problems. read more

Great food , near the Kemah Boardwalk, and they have the greatest menu with chicken fried steak to seafood ! Definitely a family place !
