This used to be a Lawson's Bakery about 10 years ago when I first worked in Dupont. I held a grudge that Panera swooped in and took over. I'm now over it. This Panera really holds its own. It's clean, has multiple entrances, has additional seating in the lower level, and is overall quite cozy. Adrian (cashier) was super friendly, energetic, helpful, and eager. The service was fast and efficient. I ordered two macaroons---couldn't resist! They tasted fresh, delicious, and had a great consistency. I love coconut and I love chocolate and I love them smushed together! Don't forget to sign up for or use your MyPanera rewards!

Tried Panera for the first time finally and I was impressed. I heard good things about the Goddess chicken salad and I'll still try that but on this day, I was feeling like a sandwich so I went for the Roasted Turkey & Avocado BLT -- thoroughly enjoyed it!

Panera is many things, but first and foremost it's a chain restaurant. A delicious land where carbs are kind and soups, tasty desserts and awesome coffee are all members of its court. Came to this location over the weekend before we had made reservations for fancy-pants cocktails at a bar/lounge that was supposed to also be fancy-pants (giving Dirty Martini club a dirty look now) and we decided to get non-fancy pants dinner because of time constraints and overall cost efficiency purposes. The people at the register were super friendly and didn't mind that I took 10 minutes to decide between 3 possible pasta platters. I went with their Tortellini Alfredo which they describe as being "a rich Alfredo sauce over tortellini noodles filled with ricotta, swiss & romano". Considering that it was less than $10 for a generous pasta serving and only $.50 for an accompanying cafe sandwich and a bag of chips (or bread if you preferred that) - this was a steal and a no-brainer! My alfredo sauce was a bit on the dense side, but deliciously rich, cheesy and creamy/buttery without tasting overdone - I prefer dense over watery when it comes to most pasta sauces so cheers here. The tortellinis were all delicious and cheese filled without tasting gross - a feat not easily accomplished by a chain restaurant, kudos here as well. The cafe sandwich I decided upon was their Classic Grilled Cheese sandwich which they describe as being an "organic sliced American cheese grilled on our new All-Natural White Miche". It was ok. Small and not that flavorful - but it was also $.50 and I'm a pretty big believer of "you get what you pay for". I paid for pasta, it was fantastic - this sandwich was okaaaaaay, just nothing to write home about. The chips were "original flavored" and kettle-cooked so kind of thickly cut and very crunchy. Also tasty and they got me through the beginning of our bus ride back to NYC the next day - huzzah! I was a little annoyed because the woman at the register said they had table-service and would bring our orders to our table (me and two friends) but they were taking forever and I ended up having to pick up my order and another girl's while Ingrid S. had to get her own...but we also got free cups with which we were able to obtain free drinks - ok fine, I had like 2 free little cups of iced coffee - I can deal with picking up my own food, lol. 4 stars Panera, 4 stars.

I've never been to a Panera Bread. Until NOW obviously. I haven't been to a lot of chains and feel I've missed out on life. It took me about 22 years to finally make it to a Taco Bell. I still have never been to Chillis. Anyway, moving on. I'm kind of both impressed and dismayed with Panera. I didn't know what to expect. I just know we were looking for cheap and substantial food. If you order a pasta meal you get on the side either half a sandwhich, soup, or salad. Which is MORE than I expected! I went with the Pesto Sacchettini. I had no idea what Sacchettini even was but the amount of oil in it was a little over-whelming. They're kind of a hybred of Tortellini and shells without the filling. Steph's Tortellini Alfredo was better even though the alfredo sauce was pretty dense. Overall, I wasn't impressed but their sourdough bread was amazing! I pocketed that to go and when I was tipsy later it was the best thing in the world to eat. The lay-out of this particular Panera is pretty huge. They have a downstairs level with long dining room tables, help-yourself areas for tea, coffee, water, juice, and soda. I really like that. I really didn't like that they ran out of their canteen iced coffee. But I've never seen a help-yourself to canteen iced-coffee before in my life so that was a huge plus. I hear they make really good mac/cheese. So I kind of regret not getting that. But I also didn't want to feel sick before going out for cocktails. I bet their soup is good too. My other friend got that. Not sure what kind but she really liked it. My half a sandwich was a grilled cheese and it was great with some of the pesto. I give this particular one 3 stars because the waitresses upstairs forgot our order and we never heard a buzz. Our food was sitting out on the counter when we went to go check on it. Also, I can't see myself making a habit of coming to a Panera in the city. Maybe to check out that macaroni some day.

The Spanish cheese (Mahón) along with the crackers and mustard sauce was superb. All the meats had their own characteristics and unique flavors but the jamón stood out to us the most. It even went well with the sauce that came for our cauliflower dish. It was fun piecing the components together to make unique tasty bites. I would come back just for the charcuterie alone. The drinks we got were Angelli's Ferrari along with the espresso martini-ish. My favorite was definitely the Ferrari one, but the espresso martini was super mild and had a slight coffee flavor. Good for people who like very light coffee. The Ferrari one was very bright and had lots of fruity notes to hide the alcohol. For entrées, we had the shakshouka, crispy, cauliflower, and brunch pork belly. Out of all these the cauliflower was definitely my favorite; super light with good earthy flavors and nuttiness and acidity from the lemon. The brunch pork belly was good too. The meat was perfectly cooked, but I found the beans to be a little bit overwhelming. I'm not a fan of baked beans personally so that might've been my fault for picking the dish, but I still did enjoy it and the pork that was well cooked made up for it; definitely for someone who likes beans. Shakshouka was very hearty with a lot of tomatoes and red vegetables in general. If you like lasagna or any sort of tomato spaghetti dish, you will like this one. I found this to be a bit much though. I was slightly tired of the flavor at the end. Just be aware it is a bit spicy. We had a pear tart for dessert. Honestly, it reminded me of an apple pie and it was good, but I think that some of the other desserts would've been a bit better. Had a lot of sweet cinnamon notes along some crispy flaky dough from the outside. It was an interesting take but it was still good. The atmosphere is great here; we had seating on the second floor, so it was different from the busy first floor. Very relaxed and there's a lot of natural light coming around which made everything feel very welcoming. Our server was also super friendly. I will definitely be back at this place

We sat outside on the patio and it was a gorgeous day. The decor is perfect and I love that they've added plants to cover the staircase. Drinks were delicious and the food came out quickly. Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! Highly recommend on a warm summer day as you're covered by the canopy above, if you're looking for a rooftop vibe.

As we were walking back towards our hotel, we actually were passing here so I chose it for our din din spot. I thought for sure it was going to be packed but luckily it was not. I knew I wanted a burger but was struggling with choosing which one. Hubs knew he wanted the Cheesesteak and knew I wanted fries. I went with the Smokehouse burger. We grabbed a seat and did not wait long for our food to come out. I really enjoyed my burger and scarfed it down! I paid for sauces, which were tiny and super overpriced. Hubs enjoyed his cheesesteak but he prefers meat. I had a bite and thought it was really flavorful and very closely tasting like the real thing. I noticed later this is a chain, which is pretty cool. I think the prices were pretty steep so I might skip on the fries next time. The food could have been warmer as well. Definitely worth a visit and will most likely be back when in DC again.

I am so glad I went with my waitresses recommendation and got the girasoli! It was unlike any pasta I've ever had. Similar to a ravioli, but has a veggie puree opposed to cheese on the inside. The leek and lettuce within the lemon butter sauce was to die for, and the girasoli itself was pleasant and unforgettable. The focaccia was also SO FLUFFY. The outer crust was not too crunchy and just right. The inside is so glamorous but also feels Italian. Very clean, nice and spread out, and overall a fabulous vibe. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to while I lived in DC, because to be honest, I never got in an Italian mood. Now that I no longer reside in the DC area, I use every visit to eat my faves and occasionally a new spot. So, after another popular (and cheaper) Italian place closed before I could finish my delivery order, I spotted L'Ardente. I ordered the famous Lasagna - their 40-layer specialty - with short rib sugo, truffle mornay, and Sottocenere Cheese. The truffle mornay added a smooth, melty, creamy cheese sauce. It is good, but I am not sure if it is worth the hype at $40 lagnasa. I think the cost is built into the work but not the flavor profile. I think the meal is better without the sauce - it made it too salty with it.
