I WAS a regular at the Shelton Panera. Last week at my location I was served a bagel with cream cheese that was part of the listeria recall. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, this week i did an order to go of the chipotle chicken sandwich. I have ordered this sandwich many times. When i got home to pick it up the chicken was COLD PINK AND UNCOOKED (look at the picture). The avocado was black and ROTTEN. And when i called to speak to the manager Sophie she started telling me that the chicken is supposed to look pink and was confused when i asked for a refund as if i was wrong. I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK. THIS IS WHY YOU GUYS GOT BUSTED WITH LISTERIA! GET IT TOGETHER! If i get sick i will be reporting this to the health department! Whether it is first thing in the morning or the end of the night, whether i am eating at the restaurant or ordering to go I should be able to trust that my food is not rotten. This has got to be the worst fast food place I've ever encountered in terms of getting every order I've ever had wrong!!! I just ordered a French onion soup... it came without the cheese?? The last time I went I ordered a scrambled bacon egg and cheese sandwich and it came over easy, because they always get everything wrong I checked and made them remake it. Not great. Not bad. The sandwiches are prepared nicely, on decent but not spectacular bread. The lines may be long but move very quickly. I'd say they move even quicker than a fast food drive-in sometimes. Their food is certainly better, that's for sure. As far as chains go, it's a fairly reliable one, so what you get at one is going to be similar to what you get at another, and seeing as how the food/service/prices seem to be fairly harmonious, that's not a bad thing. Ah Panera Bread, I am glad I don't live closer to you! Heavenly smells paired with great food and damn good coffee would make me bankrupt and large! This is one of the nicer Panera Breads I have been to recently. Nice staff who is friendly, patient, and quick. Last time we were there it was super busy and I think even the manager was out running around helping the cashiers get people served. The food is always good. I usually get an egg souffle and a cinnamon sugar bagel. The souffle is always great! I recommend the artichoke and spinach one, although the one with bacon is good because it has bacon of course! Coffee....MMMmmmm.....Coffee.....I love coffee, a little too much that is, and Panera has my favorite hazelnut coffee around! It is brewed fairly frequently and is always fresh. I can't do this place anymore. Panera has great food, but as others here have said, this staff is just plain disappointing. Just today, I stood at the counter waiting for my food to be prepared. I saw a bag placed on the counter. My name was not called, so I didn't think it was my food, naturally. Another 7 minutes passed. Finally, the woman attending to that station calls out my name. I smiled at the back of her head and said "Thanks, have a happy new year." She never once even turned to look at me. She just grabbed the bad and handed it to a human standing behind her. Yuck. I've been going to this location for years. I don't know what exactly happened, but the entire staff is SO unprofessional. I think they changed their management, but a bunch of kids are running that place. The place is so disgusting. The staff is so unprofessional and don't even know what the hell they are doing. I was just there today for the first and LAST time. Very dirty place!!! There was no where to sit because every table was dirty with stains, crumbs, dishes, etc. My party and I all had to get our utensils replaced because they were dirty... Dirty as in dried food spot all over them and a crusty substance. I was so disgusted. I wish I took pictures so I could show the health department. All I ordered was a cinnamon roll and cafe mocha. I asked for the roll to be warmed up, but was told I had to warm it up myself in a microwave. What kind of restaurant makes you warm up or cook your own food? And as for the coffee... I ordered a medium. Before I drank it, I removed the lid and was shocked to see it filled only half way. I went back and showed a staff member. I was told that that's the way they make it. Manager was insensitive to the problem and reflected it back on us. ...our problem not theirs. Updated Review, 1/24/18 I have been going to this Panera since it opened, before I knew what loans, SATs, and majors were. Considering all my visits, three stars sums up my experience here. Pros; - Good atmosphere to meet up, study, and be alone. Enough privacy for minding one's own or having conversations. - Good food; Whether omnivore or vegetarian, the food here will serve you well. - Service has been consistently good. - Rewards card; I love free and discounted food! Cons - Pricing for vegetarian options; I accept that fact that eating here means paying a premium. That isn't factored in my rating. Price does count when it comes to the vegetarian options, however. I don't think the sandwiches and pasta dishes are worth the price if your skipping the meat. The salads and bowls border on worthiness, but the portions tend to be too inconsistent for me to recommend (I'll get to this in a bit). If you have to take vegetarianism in to consideration, I suggest skipping this place. There is a diner and two Tex-Mex places a block away better suited to serve anyone, and Indian food on River Road 14 minutes away. - Inconsistent portions; This is a serious problem at this place. I have had half salads the size of full salads, and full salads the size of half salads. You would think this wouldn't be an issue with sandwiches, but even then I've had sandwiches with half the meat missing or one thin avocado slice. My favorite cookie here is the kitchen sink. At around $4/5, I rarely treat myself with it. But it's worth it because this cookie is bigger than the other cookies. But the last time I went there, the kitchen sink was the size of a regular chocolate chip cookie, and at double the price! When I brought this up to the cashier, the cashier didn't even register my comment and read me the final purchase price. Stuff like that has happened way too many times for me, and I always double check my food before eating it/leaving the restaurant with it. - Ordering to Pick-up. Don't do it. Honestly, don't. I have done this seven times, and three times they messed up my order. Once they put meat on a meatless order AND forgot the meat on a meat order. Another time they gave my a half salad when I ordered a full salad. Just today I picked up two orders. My coworker's order was fine, but my Lentil Quinoa Bowl with an egg was lacking on the quinoa and only had half an egg with its yolk missing. Really? What celestial being doesn't want me to have good food while avoiding lunch-rush lines? - WiFi; it is notorious amongst frequent visitors for being horrible. It is slow and unresponsive. Don't do work here if you need the WiFi. Even if you only work for 30 minutes during a non-rush time, you'll be lucky if it works for 7 of those minutes. I once got 25 minutes of good WiFi in the 100+ visits. I haven't used it in about three months, so this might not be true, but it has been for most of the past decade. I suggest Focaccia's down the street if you intend to be online and enjoy a good sandwich/salad with coffee. To sum up, if you're ordering meat-centric sandwiches to stay, and you check your food, I say this is a good place to be at. If you're getting coffee and either catching up with someone, studying with a preference for white noise, or wanting some alone time, I recommend this place. But don't come here if you want food to go. Don't come here for vegetarian options, unless you're craving an expensive grilled cheese. Stay away! Complete chaos at this location. One order taker, two order 'cooks' and about 15 people waiting for food. One of the cooks yelled at an co-worker in front of everyone. Same cook was bitching about everything being empty. Where's the management when it gets this way? The manager is supposed to have adequate staff scheduled. If someone called in, then the manager should be hands deep assisting the staff. Not hiding in the backroom watching TV. Twenty minutes (I checked my watch) I stood in line waiting for food only to get back to the office and find it was ICE COLD. The chicken wasn't good, it looked like it had been batter dipped and under-cooked. Had to throw that away. Panera's food is always good! That's not why I rated this location 2 stars. The reason is that I always place online orders for "rapid pickup" and they always get my order wrong. Most of the time they will forget your sides. I paid extra for a fruit cup and I didn't even get it. They always forget my chips too. Now I always check to make sure the sides are in there. I ordered online again today and customized my salad just a little bit. I added almonds and avocado for an extra charge. Guess what I didn't get? Almonds or avocado. I don't feel like I should need to dig through my bag and my salad to make sure everything is correct. Idk if they just rush too quickly or don't care. Just make sure everything is in your bag before you leave the restaurant. I've probably lost $20 by then leaving out certain items. Went to Panera to finish an assignment like I usually do but had trouble focusing as the employees were fooling around behind the counter. Every so often the manager would yell at employees in front of customers. It was such an unpleasant experience. I would have left sooner, but because it was 30 degrees and I had to finish my paper, I tried to block their noise out. We came to Panera after a long shoe-shopping trip and it was delicious! I got a plain bagel toasted with butter, a soft drink, and a $0.99 cookie. The small soft drinks look like a medium at any other fast food place, which might be concerning if you have a child who wants a soda . Even their plain bagels are delicious! Almost 50% of the time I order breakfast for online pick-up, they get something wrong. I ordered scrambled egg, ham and cheese and I received a sunny side up egg on bread. That's it. No ham or cheese. I also always order a coffee with my breakfast and the cup is NEVER in the bag when I go to pick-up and I have to go ahead and get someone's attention to get a cup. Breakfast time never seems busy. Especially for online pick-up because my pick-up time always says 5 minutes after I order so I assume they're not busy. Probably one of the better Paneras in the state. The staff is very friendly, and the food is amazing. Half Steak and White Cheddar Panini, and half Baked Potatoes soup is my favorite thing to get here. They make the Panini just right, not too much horseradish sauce, and perfectly cooked onions, not mushy and not hard and raw, perfectly firm. Also, their oatmeal and shortbread cookies are the best I've ever had. This is the perfect place for lunch. With the provided free wifi, it's nice to sit down with my Panini and soup and either finish work, or just browse the internet. Also, This Panera donates all their unused bread at the end of the day. If you go towards closing time they will let you bring some home for free If you ask, seeing as it's all going to be given away anyway. read more

The front end says wait til they call your name then pick up your food and the back end says we will bring to table. My food never came. Took 10 mins. When I went up to counter they told me we bring it to you. It never came. I went back up...saw my food order sitting there and asked if I could please have it. No we will bring it. We stopped at Panera on a weekend trip to Shelton for a wedding. We ate lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 1 PM. The place was actually empty. I had an 8.50 turkey sandwich with avacado. A bit pricey, but it was very delicious. My husband also gets the asiago roast beef. We went way into the back to sit. The place was absolutely freezing. It had to be about 60 degrees in the place and the back room was really filthy. I would have given the place 4 stars for the sandwiches alone..But, between freezing our asses off and the place being extremely dirty...I'll stick with the three. While I have been here many times, this was my first time actually sitting down. And it wasn't even to eat! I got a iced green tea (my fave) and sat down to do..... homework. I just became one of those people I stare it, and therefore would not have been mad if someone told me to, "Go home!" Which is what I always think :). They had a secluded section that I was able to find a table and it was for the most part quiet. An employee wiped down the table for me and even killed a spider for me. They are very attentive and cleared people's food for them so they could just talk. The staff was really friendly and in good spirits. On Bridgeport Ave there are so many choices of restaurants, and this one isn't too bad for price and atmosphere. I enjoyed the food and the service. I came here for WiFi and to have access to the internet. I spent hours there trying to get access to the internet. Not even once was I able to access the internet. I write as a hobby so I like to do light research on the internet. Maybe it was where I was sitting and if I sat nearer towards Bridgeport Ave in the front I would have had access. WiFi is the only reason why I would go there, and I'd rather go to Starbucks for WiFi and food, and I haven't used the one in Shelton, yet, but I've been to many Starbucks and I haven't had a problem there. They have a nice comfy chair in the back which has a bad design for a cup holder. If only the cup holder had a bottom then any cup might fit whether it would be for a soda or coffee. Maybe at one time they had a detachable part that would fit all size cups only they got all messed so they were thrown out. The staff was more interesting in talking and joking with one another, and the food prep team looked miserable, like they didn't want to be there. This with several customers waiting for their food.
