I had to edit my initial review for when new ownership took over initially. I went again tonight after a long hiatus. The woman who was taking orders in the front had me "wait a minute" for five minutes for a pickup order, and was completely zero personal interaction or acknowledgement in her people skils. I'm not sure if they changed chef's recently or what, but it was not nearly as good as what it used to be (from what I last remember it tasting like). The food tasted extremely bland, lacking any type of flavor you would expect from a Pad Si Iw dish. I can no longer justify coming here with the increased price tag on their dishes, when you can get better flavor and quality for less elsewhere in the surrounding neighborhood. read more

Definitely the best bang for your buck when it comes to quality and portion size of the meal for thai in CT. I really enjoyed the drunken noodles I recommend getting them with pork! I wish I could give places extra stars for exceeding my expectations! A friend and I were out and about when she said I'm craving pho. So using yelp I searched up nearby spots in Shelton and decided, I drive by here all the time, might as well try it out! There's plenty of parking in their lot which is always one of my biggest concerns when going to a restaurant. We were immediately greeted with a smiling face upon entering and were seated far enough where we felt our conversations would be private. The restaurant was decorated with Christmas decorations and was extremely clean and well taken care of! They have a decent size menu where it's hard to just pick one thing out. They offer lunch items as well as dinner entrees, apps, phos, ramens and even bubble teas! Thai tea is always my pick when going out and it was perfectly refreshing and not too sweet. I was intrigued with so many things but ended up ordering the crispy tofu and the ba mi Ped. The tofu was a perfect crisp and had this delicious Thai peanut sauce for dipping. I've never had Ba Mi Ped before, but the roasted duck in the photo on the menu told me I had to try it. I wish I knew where this was my whole life. The broth was slightly sweet and flavorful where you wanted it in every bite of the noodles. The duck was so juicy and tender, it practically melted in my mouth. If I wasn't so full, I was ready to order another round of noodles to go with the rest of my broth. It's going to be hard to return because as much as I'd like to order something new, I'm going to be thinking about the ba mi Ped. We of course had to finish off the lunch with a dessert and chose the mango sticky rice. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. The rice was cooked perfectly and the mango was at its peak ripeness! Today Arrived @ 1:40 for lunch. Planned to have a leisurely lunch enjoying the wine we brought BYOB. Poured wine and then informed by nice waitress Tanya that we would have to be finished and leave @ 2:30 beause they close til dinner time. I have never heard of that before! We felt forced to order and started eating. My Pad Wootsen w pork , rice noodles, & fresh vegs came & the pork was so tough I couldn't eat the meat. The rest was delicious. It was awful to have a time limit & unheard of. I took most of it home and left all of the tough pork on the plate. Lesson learned: Speak up & get a substitute protein! I will return. I've been trying to come here for a few months, but they seem closed at odd times. Today I went staff was very nice. Very polite. I had the rice noodle soup, I asked them to hold the bean sprouts. This is a $17 soup. For me, it was far too little broth, it was served in a huge bowl, but the bowl was not full of broth. It was maybe half full, including the meat, the shrimp and the rice noodles the broth was very bland. The restaurant pouts being a traditional Thai restaurant however the soup was served no traditional accoutrements.. Fish sauce (salt + umami) * Chili flakes or chili oil (heat) * Sugar (yes -- balance) * Vinegar or pickled chili vinegar (acid) * Often lime wedges They're seem to be only one person working the dining area and when I could finally get their attention, I was able to get some lime wedges and chili sauce. I'm on the fence if I'll go back sometimes like to give these places a second try nothing was awful and nothing was bad but the quantity was minimal. It wasn't worth the $17. The broth was minimal. They could definitely offer more broth and it just to seem like a bother to get traditional accouterments. This these types of soups are finished at the table and not in the kitchen. So all I ordered was pho and an order of fresh rolls. Took the fresh rolls home. Had them layer. They were delicious. As for the pho I should just say it wasn't what I was expecting. I guess I just would call it gourmet or foo foo pho. Way too dark. Praying it wasn't hoison sauce that made it so dark as it's advertised and confirmed to be gluten free (celiac here) assume it was just dark soy. It was spiced up with roasted garlic that I wasn't expecting and was sadly burnt. I didn't say anything and it's my own fault for not asking about the pho but if you're expecting a clear pho broth this is the polar opposite. I normally order from here pretty frequently, so i spend alot of money here. Tonight they made an error and I only realized it when I got home and opened the box. I immediately called the restaurant and the lady on the phone was rude and unhelpful. I specified that I was 30min away and she insisted that I return the food. I would have been happy with a percent off for a future order, a comped dessert, the difference in price applied to a future order, literally anything. But she refused. It was only when I suggested that I send a photo so they can see they messed up my order did she agree, rudely too. What annoyed me wasn't the fact that they made an error, or the price difference, but it was her attitude. It was nasty. It makes me wonder what else she's nasty about. Been here many times. Finally doing a review. This place deserves more than 5 stars. It is, by far, the best Thai food in the area. Food: Superb, excellent, delicious! The food comes out quickly and always piping hot! Seriously, like steaming hot, which is rare for many restaurants. I go to many restaurants and the food is always just "warm" not really "hot". The ingredients are fresh! Presentation is top notch! For drinks, it's BYOB (I prefer). Service: Always friendly and attentive! No complaints. Ambiance: Not bad. Inviting for dine in. Delicious Thai food, prepared well and beautifully presented in a clean but humble little relaxed restaurant. The service was nicely timed, with the only negative that the employees, while efficient, could be a little friendlier or happier. A smile goes a long way, even if business is slow. No liquor is served but I believe they allow BYOB. We had a terrific meal there and really enjoyed the experience. They played relaxing music and the ambience was understated, not garish and pleasant. They menu is large with plenty of different categories from appetizers and salads to thai specialties and Chinese wok dishes as well as rice and noodle dishes! This is our top choice for Asian food. Oh my! Barn Thai! How did I only just discover this place? Maybe that's because I never noticed it hiding along River Road in Santos Plaza. (Well, to be honest, most places along River Road, including Santos Plaza, I motor right past without realizing.) I only ordered takeaway, but the interior is modern industrial-ish and clean. I was provided a friendly greeting and, when given my order, was reverenced with gratitude. If only we could all experience such politeness towards and respect of each other everywhere we went. I definitely got the feeling that the staff at Barn Thai are genuine and serve their food with love. One bite of their Drunken Noodle (with salmon added) and I was immediately transported to what one could only describe as gastronomic heaven! And the portion was enough for two--both the drunken noodles and the salmon. Barn Thai is my new favorite for Thai and for takeaway. Ordering: very easy using online system Timing: the time to pickup is always accurate and rarely do we ever see more than 1-2 minutes of extra wait. Food: amazing. I get either the basil fried rice and panang curry- both are soo good with plenty of veggies and meat included. My dh always gets the drunken noodles which he loves. The restaurant was lovely and the ambiance was casual sophisticated! We were greeted and seated right away. The menu had a very nice selection with fresh Thai dishes. We had the appetizer sampler, this was perfect for two! We ordered our main dishes. I ordered the mama yum which was a very fresh ramen salad dish with fresh cut tomatoes. This dish was so refreshing! My friend had the pineapple fried rice with chicken, and of course I had to taste her dish! It was so good I will order that the next time I visit. I order from their luncheon special Pa-nang curry w chicken. and it came with two dumplings and Tom Yum Chicken soup...the soup was delish, very flavorful. The Pa-nang curry had fresh string beans and chicken and the coconut curry sauce was super delish (Wow) with rice...I cleaned the plate, it was so good. After reading all the great reviews of Barn Thai we decided to check it out. Well, those reviews weren't wrong...Barn Thai has it all! Fresh food, beautifully prepared, sauces not filled with corn starch but real herbs and extremely well seasoned broths. The chef is wonderful, the room looked welcoming (we did take out), the take out was all labeled and anything that might spill was put in a proper container and then a plastic bag! Everything was ready when we got there. The online ordering is beautifully done with clear pictures and easy to use. We called the day before to clarify the use of MSG and were assured they never use it...in anything they make. The understand the issues of good health and many of their offerings are created with vegetables that are beautifully cooked. One aside: When we called to actually put in an order the next day the owner remembered my name from the day before and my question about the MSG. Was I surprised! We had fresh rolls made with shrimp, cucumber, carrot. One suggestion would be 2 sauces, but the satay was excellent. We had both Tom Yam soup and Tom Kha, both delicious. We've had Tom Yam many times before it's always great, Barn Thai is unique, the broth is thinner but richer. Very good. Both entrees were very good (Red Curry w Chicken and a wok dish with cashews and pineapple and chicken). the chicken was tender and well cut into fork portions. Any protein you choose can be added to. Level of heat is adjustable. Portions are generous. Barn Thai is in a small shopping center and easy to ride by as we did! So put your GPS on! We highly recommend Barn Thai, a welcome addition to the Shelton-Stratford area. This place is a keeper....JUST GO! read more

I love Thai food. I've had good and bad. All of the restaurants said they were authentic. Ha! Tonight I had the pleasure of enjoying the best. My go-to dish is Pineapple fried rice. So of course I ordered that. It was amazingly delicious. Also we ordered a Barn Thai sampler of appetizers. This dish was also delicious. Our order was takeout packaged and presented nicely. I have had Thai locally in Shelton, Ansonia and Orange and this place is better than the Shelton and Ansonia Thai restaurants and equally as good as the one I go to in Orange. I will definitely be back. Friendly service very attentive and large portions. I did have to knock off one star because when ordering Curry it only comes spicy and I like mild. Other Thai places let you pick spice level for curry but here the green and red are spicy but it's ok, I was able to handle it with a few glasses of water to follow.
