Sometimes, when you read reviews and it is ultra negative you truly wonder, was the person having a bad day? I will often read reviews after sitting down, 3 reveiws stand out a petty, contradictive, and likely exagerated. One was even a Yelp Elite member, who in one paragraph the food was so expensive and not worth the $$$ and in the last paragraph stated she liked the food...shameful. The cashier up front where you order your food at the counter here was friendly. There were about 8 people ahead of us in line, they have kiosks to order from but, since we were not familier with the menu and add ons, etc., we opted to wait in line. I ordered 2 macaroons, the 1/2 hot italian sandwich with chips, she had the 1/2 goddess cobb salad with chicken and chips. We both got drinks and a selectable $ tip vs percentage ( very appropriate for counter order service). Our total was $28.68. This is completley in line with quality of food served here. We both really enjoyed our lunch and left full and happy. The place was clean, nothing appeared lacking in cleanliness. The bathrooms were clean and no funny smells in the restaurant as stated by others. I sincerily hope people who wrote bad reviews for this or any establishment would recheck that their review was indeed fair and accurate. We will return as it was exactly want we expected. read more

This used to be one of our favorite spots when we came over here. I must say it has gone down a good bit. There is an old musty smell when you walk in. It smells like old mop water has been used numerous times without being changed out. The dining room had crumbs and some paper on the floor. The floor leading to the bathroom was very sticky. The bathroom was clean tho and did not have an odor which is good. M daughter had just taken a 2 hour test and was starving so we stayed. The cashier was very kind and informed us of the oven being broke so no hot sandwiches. We each ordered the pick 2. Mine was soup and salad. My daughter's was sandwich and salad. Honestly, nothing special. The soup was very very thick. Looked more like a congealed soup. I didn't bring it back. I simply didn't eat it. The salad tasted good enough. My daughter had hardly anything on her salad except lettuce. Said her sandwich was messy but good! There appeared to be something going on with the employees. I could hear a couple of them fussing. Meh, it happens. It was $30.00 for 2 pick twos. Seems a bit high for sub par food. There was a lot of parking but it was empty for a Saturday. The location is very convenient especially in front of Target. There are a lot of choices to eat on and near Schillinger Road. I highly doubt I'll be back there. It's a shame too. Well....its just very disappointing to go to a place and order 3 soups, a salad and one soda and spend $40. The soups and salad did not have any meat on them so this was all vegetarian. There was a line and once I was greeted by her I said good morning I see management is leaving you here by yourself with this long line of customers. Stay calm and you're doing fine. I most often frequent this Panera location. The quality and consistency is always up to par. The selection is great, the service is fast and friendly, and my rapid pickup orders are prepared and waiting when I arrive. Only gripe is that they run out of soufflés and other menu items often. Favorites: the breakfast soufflés (each and every one of them), the broccoli & cheddar soup, everything in the pastry case, and their salads. But, overall, it's a pretty good Panera location. Customer service is not a priority here any longer. This was formerly a great location, but sadly management has clearly changed hands over the years. There is nobody working the cash register, nor was there anyone to help people use the kiosks. There's a typed up sign on the door warning you of this as you enter. I saw an elderly couple struggling with the kiosk, and and not a single employee could be bothered to help them. Another man had a question about how to use his kiosk, and the manager on duty snapped at him like he should know how to use Panera's machine. That man isn't a Panera employee, so on how earth would he know? This location also recently changed to not allowing customers to have their cups until they receive their food, even for dine in. The kiosk doesn't print out a receipt, so if you don't have the app, you're probably stuck with the manager's choice to treat everyone like a thief. However, if you have the app, you can easily show your receipt on your phone, so I don't know why you can't enjoy your drink while you wait for your food to cook. Besides the cup thing, paying almost $40 for a Panera lunch for 2 is just too much. You can go next door and have the best Mexican in town. And next door, they will take your order, bring your order to you, and clean up after you for less than that. Oh yeah, they forgot to give us our chips, so we had to ask for that. read more

I ordered pick 2 with a bowl of Chicken Wild Rice soup and 1/2 Frontega Chicken. My sandwich had no chicken and my soup was just broth and carrots. After speaking to "Tom" ( not sure that's his name) the "manager" ( if he is a manger that explains this location being so horrible ) Not only was he extremely rude, he tried to call me ( the one with the horrible order and out $13.84 ) rude. The Schillinger location is always training new people. Today, they were running out of bread by 12:30 pm including baguette as the side. The price of the food is not worth what you get anymore, as much as I love their soups, salads and sandwiches. I had a great lunch today with a girl friend. They are open for dine in but with limited seating. Every other table and booth is closed. Guests are asked to wear masks. I felt very comfortable with the limited lunch seating. There were quite a few vehicles parked outside waiting for carryout so I suppose that option is available. They also have outside seating. The food tasted great and was fresh. The wait for food was short. I plan on going back very soon. read more

Recently got take-out. Been a long time since I had the Broccoli cheddar soup and it really hit the spot! A Bacon Turkey Bravo and Fuji apple salad You Pick Two Combo usually is perfect to split with a friend but The portions seemed a teensy bit smaller that they used to be or is it just the teensy containers they use for to-go orders? I'm not sure. I'm personally still not ready for dining indoors so I'll just have to wait and see... the flavors are still there though so that's a plus! read more

Not my best Panera bread experience. I ordered a latte but their latte/cappuccino machine was broken. I decided to have a plain drip coffee and cranberry muffin. The muffin was delicious. However, when I went to get my coffee the regular light roast was empty and the dark roast was also empty. I then I moved onto flavored coffee (Which I don't particularly enjoy but I just wanted some coffee). I got MAYBE half a cup of that before it was empty too. It was 9 AM and other than some decaf coffee there was literally no coffee in that place. I did let them know that there was no coffee available, but nobody seemed concerned or were about to attempt moving quickly by any means. So I just drink my half cup of warmish flavored coffee. Also, there was a giant dead cockroach right in front of the baked goods. Not the first time I've seen a giant dead cockroach in there either. There was only one girl (with One of her hands/arm in a brace) taking orders and seemed to be in charge of coffee and baked goods (possible cockroach removal). Seemed like one of the many employees that were standing around talking in the food prep area could have come over and helped a little bit. I really don't know how she could keep all those coffees and creamers full while also waiting on customers as they came in...Especially since she was having to do everything one-handed. She was trying her best. She just needed some help in that section. read more

Last night I had dinner with a precious friend at Panera on Schillinger. After ordering what I thought my toddler would like he was just not happy, and he begged me to ask them if they had rice. Being that he was persistent and not rude I agreed to ask-knowing the answer was no. The manager went out of her way to try to take care of my little boy. She offered me several other options-to which I told her it was perfectly fine. Then she spoke to him and they finally agreed on PB and J. Favorite study spot! Very calm and welcoming environment. The service is always great! They're very big on accuracy so i've never had problems with my order. Perfect to grab a coffee and catch up with friends but also quiet enough to study for your finals. Lunch is good but seems to be pricy for the amount of food. 10-12 bucks for a cup of soup and a half of sandwich is too much in my opinion. This is one of the worst experiences I had with customer service down here. Yesterday my mom and I went into Panera bread for lunch. The front counter there was only one employee, a pudgy Asian lady with glasses. When my mom and I walked into the establishment the Asian employee was there and she did not greet us not one time. My mom and I stood at the front for about 7 minutes ordering and not one time were we offered help when we were confused whether to order from the ipads or does the employee up front take our order. Another customer came in after us (older white male) walked into the establishment and ordered his food on the iPad on the right of me. He came in about 8-9 minutes after us. Within 3 minutes of him being there the Asian employee rushed over to him to ask him if wanted a cookie or needed help once again walking past my mom and I. I had to say something to her in order for us to be acknowledged. When I tried to ask her if I order on the iPad or does she take my order she interrupted me and got defensive with an attitude and told me she's one person and I have to wait, when there was no other customers.My mother and I ordered on the iPad and we paid for our drink as well and we did not receive cups for our fountain drinks. We find our seat and I walk over to the fountain drinks where I see a taller white employee with long brown hair in a ponytail with stacks of empty cups in her hand. I tell her we paid for our food and drinks already and if I can get our cups. She tells us our drinks come with our food when the food is ready. I ask her if I can get cups so we can drink while we wait and she tells me no. I walk away from her and go back to the Asian employee and there was 5 white older customers in a group together in line ordering. I ask her the same question and I ask her if we can get cups for our drinks and she also told me no and to wait for the food. So I have now two employees telling me I cannot drink until I get my food when I have been here 3 other times and I always gotten my cup before my food with no issue. When I sit back down I see the group of older customers whom all were white walk past my mom and I finding their seats and they all gotten their cup. i asked them if they had to wait for their food for their cups they told me no and the Asian employee gave them their cups with no issue. I sit back down and wait. There's another set of customers who enter the store both white women. They go to order their food and the same Asian emoloyee hands them cups with no issue. Id like to mention that my mother and I are black. I walk up to the Asian employee and I telll her I asked her for cups before and she told me no and she gave them to the other white customers right away and we all paid for our cups just like them. I asked her for the third time nicely but assertive if we can get our cups. She turns her back to me and sighs and then gives me a sarcastic smile and hands me my cups. I feel disgusted with the customer service and I feel my mother and I were discriminated against And disrespected. Within 10 seconds of a customer walking into any establishment they should be greeted. ALL CUSTOMERS of ALL BACKGROUNDS AND ETNICITIES AND GENDERS. We should all be given the same customer service which we did not. I feel this panera at this location is prejudice and rude. Great food. It's delicious. It's healthy. I do miss the Asiago Roast Beef and the Black Bean Soup, though. Great atmosphere. Nice place to meet up socially or for a relaxed business luncheon. The service is good. Friendly and polite. So why only 3 stars? The wait time. There are plenty of registers, but apparently not enough people to operate them. Since Holly came to work at this Panera, everything has been great! Twice in two months she has helped me out with pre-ordering scads of bagels. While it may seem to be a small thing, it is not! Today I was able to pick up my 4 dozen bagels that I needed last minute for a family of a close friend who died suddenly. Holly placed my last minute order and when I arrived, All were bagged up and sliced and arranged in large bags for me to scoop up and get back to my car quickly! Thank You Holly! Over the course of a week, I went to this Panera bread a few times. Two of those times were for a caffeine fix a la iced chai latte. The iced chai was good. It seemed to be your standard Oregon chai latte experience. One of those times, I got a chocolate chippy cookie filled to the gills with chocolate chips. It was a pretty good cookie. The edges were a little dry from sitting out for the morning, but overall decent. Another one of the times, I got a hot panini. It was the mushroom and mozzarella one. The portabellos didn't taste like portabellos at all. They seemed to be more of a button mushroom than anything else. The sandwich was mediocre and not remotely enticing. I usually eat here 2 to 3 times a month when I am short on time or just want something quick. My experiences have always been pleasant and the food has been consistently good. The broccoli cheddar soup, the Cobb salad and the turkey sandwich are my usual go to fare. The staff have always been polite and eager to please...so I have not experienced any problems like some of the previous reviewers. Panera is more about healthy than the gastronomic delights you would find at a fine dining establishment. Panera Bread is one of my favorite go-to places. Panera is really big back in the midwest, but a lot of Alabama people are not familiar with the chain. Panera is a bakery/deli/coffee shop all rolled into one. You can literally go here for any meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Breakfast: They have bagels, muffins, and pastry items to choose from. Along with a full out barista that can whip up any coffee drink your heart desires. Plus it is great if you are trying to grab breakfast for your office because they have family style take out options for coffee or bagels or whatever you like. Lunch: They have several salad options, sandwiches, and soup! Obviously, tons of options of breads that they bake in house. I always get the "You PIck Two" which give you the choice of choosing two items of soup, salad, or sandwich and you get one additional side item of an apple, chips, or baguette. Dinner: Need a study spot for homework?? They have WiFi, and tons of seating options (outdoor, indoor, booth, table) plus they play light jazz music in the background. Salad, soup, or sandwich options. It is very casual, no servers, just a counter that you order your food, they call your number, and you come get it.
