Underwhelming. I get it that this place is a chain, but it's not one I frequent and I was recently reminded why. The bread is truly the standout here so I can see why it's in the name - Panera BREAD. Problem is, the bread is needlessly ruined and the bits in between the bread on their sandwiches are lacklustre at best. This location packages their sandwiches with a pickle and that's not listed anywhere on the ordering system / menu, and the pickle's juice seeps all over the butcher paper in which they wrap their product, thus ruining the lovely bread. Beyond that, the meats are bland and taste only of salt, and the bacon is comically bad. The soups here are the way to go, but there are so many better options around for good soup so you'd be better off at one of them. read more

I came to Panera Bread just to buy a gift card for a Christmas present. I saw they were advertising a $50 card, get a $10.00 card free. Woohoo. I just gifted to myself. The assistant manager was not understanding what I was trying to do. She thought I was using the gift card to place an order. I was trying to buy a gift card for $50.00 I gave her cash and she gave me change back. Then she asks me if I'm paying with a credit card. I already gave her $50.00 and she gave me change back. Then after all of that, the register didn't print a receipt. I don't want to give a gift card without some proof that there's $50.00 on it. I wasn't confident that the assistant manger knew what she was doing. I will be calling the number on the back of the card to be sure that the balance is actually $50.00. So I'm back at Panera, and I have to say. A year later, shitty service. A little common human decency would be appreciated. Sorry I couldn't remember the phone number attached to my Panera Account. What a great experience because of such terrific service at this location! I ordered the half sandwich and the soup. The tomato soup is so great! It tastes like tomato sauce - soup because they've loaded it with extras like garlic, bits of tomato, excellent spices. Unfortunately I was not super happy with my nearly $5 beverage, pomegranate herbal iced tea - meh. They were slammed at lunch and I had to wait, which was no problem, I was not in a hurry. When I got my sandwich, it was not super appealing looking and seemed like I only got half volume of goodies inside the sandwich. I made a comment to Martin Sosa, but I also said no worries because I know they're slammed - just to let the staff know to not short the sandwiches. When I was about halfway through my meal Martin appeared with a new half sandwich for me wanting to make me feel appreciated. Wow that extra effort really helps - great customer service!! Clearly this location sucks compared to other Paneras I've been to. I picked up my order from rapid pick up a few minutes after the suggested ready time. Got home a few minutes later and noticed that my chipotle chicken sandwich was completely cold. Didn't think much of it because it tasted fine and I couldn't be bothered to complain about it. Half an hour later, I discover I have food poisoning and it's almost definitely the sandwich. It was only 30-40 minutes between the time that I ordered online and when I ate the sandwich. If proper food safety guidelines were followed, I don't think I'd have gotten sick from food sitting out in that timeframe. Clearly it was out for longer than that. I'm extremely disappointed with this experience and don't think I'll return to this location after this. Quality has gone WAY down while prices have skyrocketed. It's unacceptable. read more

Based on a plain bagel comparison, Panera is better than Einstein Bros. Tastier bagels, cheaper and better atmosphere. I find the Paneras around here frequently run out of plain bagels pretty early in the day. I think they should bake a few more than what they are baking now. I like that this particular location sets their Almondmilk out with the Half & Half so you don't have to go back to the cashier after you pour your coffee and ask them for it. A lot of other Paneras gate keep their Almondmilk and it's annoying. I can think of one thing that would improve my experience at this location. I order my coffee on the mobile app for Rapid Pick up. It says my order is ready but my cup is never sitting out, I always have to ask for my cup. I wish they'd just set it out on the bar with my receipt just like they do the food so I could just grab and go instead of having to interrupt the food prep people to ask for it. Seems like they would appreciate not being distracted in the middle of a breakfast or lunch rush. Otherwise, I love Panera. Sometimes I nice person. And today was not one of those days. Today, in efforts to try and con some friends into helping me move at the end of the month, I took them to Panera Bread for lunch (hey, I never claimed to be rich). Panera has awesome sandwiches. I love sandwiches more than I love my own family (and that sentence is in no way an effort to be amusing) and Panera always gets it right. Today, I had their Chicken Tortilla soup in a sourdough bread bowl. They even gave me the bread that was cut out of the bowl so that I could then dip it IN THE SOUP! This is truly a day to be valued. The soup itself was adequate but I've had much better. Nonetheless, it was flavorful and while I prefer their sandwiches, I would not write off this soup. Also, after I scooped up the soupy bread remains, I then used the bread carcass as a puppet like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors (FEED ME, SEYMOUR!). I've been a long time Panera fan since my high school days but man have they gone down hill over the years. I still enjoy the atmosphere but I can no longer defend their prices and quality. Food here is expensive. Period. There's no way around it. $7 for a tiny sandwich? $10 for a small bowl of pasta? And no, the quality does NOT justify the cost. Worst of all, they no longer allow bagel substitution as a side item! What a bummer. Quantity is the other problem. Their bowls look big but they never fill it up all the way. I've always liked their Napa Almond Chicken Salad sandwich but it's just a small scoop of chicken salad placed on a regular square slice of white bread. I got their Chicken Tortellini Alfredo in large a few weeks ago and I honestly thought they gave me the small portion by mistake (I even brought it back to the counter). It's just sad. Oh, and do yourself a favor and DO NOT get their new "broth bowls". They're a joke. I tried their Soba Noodle Bowl with Chicken and it was the smallest portion of noodle I've ever had. Again, deceptively large bowl but unfortunately, it's only about 1/4 filled. As for the taste, it's just... regular soup. It's so normal that I can't think of an adjective to describe it. Don't be fooled, there's nothing Japanese about it. It's actually kind of insulting that they've added soba into this "broth". And guess what, it cost $13 with the chicken add-on!!! So yeah, I'm out. I came to this location during my lunch and ordered the pick 2 with a sandwich and mac. Everything went smoothly at first, up until I was standing in the back watching them bake my sandwich. The lady was taking it out the oven and it flipped over, with the top part of my sandwich hanging on the black rod in the back of the oven. I watched her use 2 different utensils to (literally) poke at, and scrape, the top of my sandwich off the lever, then she proceeds to put it on top of the bottom half and box it up. The guy who checks the orders saw this too and didn't say anything. So I asked her directly, since I saw the whole thing, why she would serve that and she said "there's nothing wrong with it". I don't know what world she comes from, but in my world, you remake the sandwich, which I had them do. Then when it was remade, she just puts it by my bag and the order checker guy didn't even try to repackage it. So I did it myself. Those 2 people are crap. Hence the 2 star review. I'll just go to another Panera where the people making food and checking orders have more common sense. read more

I stopped into Panera Bread while the incompetent people at Sprint upstairs were busy erasing all my personal and business contacts from my phone for a routine software fix. More on that later. I ordered the "Get Two" special that should have been around $6, but I ordered two "signature" dishes, and it upped the price. With a drink, the meal came to $11. The half-sandwich was a turkey club with applewood smoked bacon and smoked Gouda. It was supposed to come on tomato basil bread, but they were out. Fine with me, I wanted sourdough anyway. I elected to have the small bowl of Vermont Cheddar mac and cheese being advertised on all the huge billboards. My side? More bread, a French baguette. Other than the fact that I was sitting down to essentially a heaping, malicious pile of carbs that would eventually make me bust my designer belts, the meal was OK. It wasn't exactly a filling meal, to me it was more like light fare. Light fare is great, but $11 can get me a real meal anywhere else. For what you get, it's a little pricey. The spread on the sandwich was not as flavorful as I expected, but it was passable. The mac and cheese was my favorite part, what with the tangy white cheddar. I'd definitely reorder it, maybe as the entire meal. The baguette? Meh, whatever. Kinda dry. And they gave me whole wheat, but it's fine. I appreciated the atmosphere; it was clean, with tasteful bread-themed decorations. The staff was friendly, and even the bus boy asked me how my evening was going. Panera is great for breakfast or lunch. It is always quick and the food is consistently good. Their bagels are very good, especially the cinnamon crunch, but be aware that they charge for cream cheese. Their coffee is always super hot, so much so that we sit there adding ice to it until it is drinkable. For lunch, I like their salads and soups. They also have good cookies and pastries. Everything on the menu has calorie counts, sometimes a good thing, sometimes bad. Get a panera card and earn free coffee and pastries. I've been under the weather for couple of days now, so I asked my son to pick me up something before he went out and about doing whatever teenagers do now a day's (sigh). At least he's taking care of me before he goes anywhere else. Soup: I wanted some New England clam chowder, but they only serve that on Friday's. Bummer! So I asked my son to pick me up cream of chicken & wild rice and one more soup, whatever they think is good. Their suggestion was French onion and he said that it's the most popular one. The soup came with a sour dough bread bowl. He told me to dump all the soup in the bread bowl then eat it from the bowl, so I did. I don't care much for the bread bowl though. I think my son brought it for me just to try it out. The soup itself was very good but as soon as I got to the bread part that started to melt in with the soup it gave me the sourdough taste, which I don't like. Call me weird but I don't like French onion soup that much. There was just soup and onion. Duh, its onion soup what do you expect right? The soup reminded me of brown gravy spice mix that you put in brown gravy sauce for mash potatoes or beef tips. It's good but not great. Bakery: I was craving desert, so I asked my son to pick me up a pastry ring from Panera. His friend works there and he brought home a pastry ring one day and said that it was free because they were going to throw it away anyway. It's nice to know that they bake everything fresh every day. Good advertising in a way I think. Because of that free pastry ring I now know about Panera Bread and want to try some more of their pastries. It's a fluted ring, baked with cherry, apple and cheese filling. Mm, mm, mmh good! I like it because it is a small size, not the big size that you normally see everywhere else. I can eat all three fillings without feeling guilty about it. I can't wait for that new one on 183 and Lake Line by Mattress Firm to open up. I'm a fan of some of their soups and the baked goods from Panera so far. : ) read more

If you're a fan of lighter fare like soups and sandwiches, Panera is a phenomenal option. There's a pretty extensive menu, the service is quick, and the food is healthy and above average in quality. Also, there's a variety of sandwich sizes and combinations to appeal to almost every appetite and health/diet need. There's also an excellent self-service drink area with a variety of coffees, teas, and soft drinks for all tastes. (Although, fair warning, they're Pepsi products for the soft drinks.) There's one major factor holding Panera back from that fifth star of excellence. Namely, Panera's menu board gives you the name of the salad, sandwich, etc -- but zero idea of what's included with the meal. You have to use their online ordering/app to get an idea of what comes on the sandwich/salad before you order. read more

This is a large Panera, which means most of the time the WiFi barely works at all. Aside from the Summer when it's too hot, the outdoor seating is far enough from the street to be pleasant and not noisy. It's the first weekend in June 2020 and Panera Bread is open again in a social distanced way. You can eat inside which is why I am reviewing the restaurant. Panera puts some light horseradish sauce on their steak sandwiches which should not bother anyone. The sandwich bread is very light. The sandwich is filling without any heaviness afterwards. They also had their fresh bagels and fresh pastries to go available which are made overnight at the restaurant. There were less than 10 other diners in the restaurant at any given time during my lunchtime Friday visit. It's good to have a decent place to get something to eat where we can sit down even when it is a nothing special chain restaurant. After 100 days of not being allowed to do the things we enjoy I find that it is the little things that count: decent food, a place to sit and eat in peace with air conditioning, a calming environment with nice music and friendly people (despite their covered faces). read more

They serve their full sized salads in a plastic shaped bowl and every time I have received it they only fill it halfway with a great deal of space between salad and lid. The last time I called I was told "the manager made it himself with the proper portions" and to leave my number so that he could call me back sometime after 1:30 PM. It's been over a week and I have yet to receive that call. Overall, if Panera can't handle providing a full bowl for their full sized salad. Panera at Gateway & Cap of TX Hiway is for the most part great. All on menu is really good to great. Soups, especially chicken noodle are as good as home. Coffee and bread don't get enough praise. Issues?? Too busy many times. Some attitude issues there. 95% of staff really good. They get one staff person who drags feet and it slows down the whole show. This PB is underrated - greatly. When I've worked through through lunch and am so exhausted and frustrated that I don't have the energy to cook that fabulously planned meal that I went out of my way to purchase all the ingredients for but I'm too hungry to make it... I go to Panera. The Bacon Turkey Bravo is always there for me. It's reliably good each time and that tomato basil bread is killer. If it weren't $8 a loaf, I'd buy it as my weekly sandwich bread for the house. On my most recent trip to Panera (360/183 location), my Bacon Turkey Bravo was delivered in top form. On that day, the Panera sandwich artist outdid himself. My sandwich arrived looking like a sample used for print ads. It was huge, had evenly distributed toppings, and was just beautiful. Now I remember why we don't eat Panera Bread anymore, it's a rip off. After many years, we decided to try it again, the need for just simple soup and sandwich motivated us to give another shot. The restaurant appears new, well designed and very modern. Just steps inside several kiosks await to order and pay with just a few buttons pushed and a credit card swipe. Great idea, especially for regulars. Since we were not familiar with the menu, we ordered at the counter with the help of a very friendly staff member. With a short wait, our buzzer rang and our food was delivered. This is where the problem begins, with the food. Between the two of us, we ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup, a cup of french onion, a chicken salad sandwich, and steak and cheese sandwich. We both tasted it all, and we both concluded, it was all terrible. The french onion soup was sweet with little flavor. Chicken noodle, almost no flavor and what little there was, didn't taste like chicken. Two ounces of chicken salad on the sandwich was flavorless. And the worst item, the steak and cheese sandwich had a funny taste, and unfortunately, a strange after taste that lingered. The best part of the sandwich, there was little of it. To make a very long story short, I came in with a Panera gift card. I asked the cashier to check how much was on the gift card. She checked, it was $15. I ordered and tried to pay with my Panera gift card. It wouldn't register when I swiped it. It wouldn't register when the cashier swiped it. She said I couldn't use my gift card. Yes, I was not able to use a valid Panera gift card at Panera. She tried to brush me aside by saying, it doesn't work. You can't use it. How do you want to pay? This has never happened to me before. I asked why, etc... noting that this was a really bad business practice. She insisted- I couldn't use the Giftcard to pay for my meal. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I have a Giftcard for your restaurant. We just proved it has $ on it. Why can't I use it? She insists, "No, it won't work. It won't swipe. You can't use it." As this was happening, the line behind me grew and grew. The cashier said she was the manager and I needed to contact the company about the gift card. I asked again- does the Panera Giftcard have money on it? "Yes," she said. I couldn't believe the lack of customer service here. After quite a bit of time going back and forth, the line is growing. She ends up comping my meal. So, I sit down and wait. I wait and wait. Nothing. No meal comes. Finally, I get up to ask what's going on. The staff had never received my order. I had waited so long by that time. It was an exhausting experience. Finally my food came out. All in all it was a super terrible experience. When you have a gift card, it's embarrassing to have it "not work" for no reason at all. Worse, it's awful for the cashier/manager to insist the gift card has money on it, but not be able to use it. Good food, good prices, decent ambiance I was pleasantly surprised upon entering this restaurant. I haven't been to a Panera for about 10 years, and I wasn't expecting much. The atmosphere (especially behind the counter) is wonderful, however. I really enjoyed seeing (and smelling) all the fresh breads and pastries upon entering. There's nothing like a whiff of fresh bread at lunch time.... I ordered the tuna salad and some chips. The tuna was made with quality ingredients and came with tomato, lettuce and onion. It was of much higher quality than say.. a Subway. The bread was excellent - a type of wheat - that you could tell was amazingly fresh. It was still warm even! The chips were generic potato chips, but were not as unhealthy as Lay's or something like that. The sandwich and chips were about $7.50. The ambiance was nice enough for a sandwich shop. The colors were warm and earthy, and the seating was comfortable. It wasn't too loud but the atmosphere wasn't dead either. There's always a bit of hustle and bustle behind the counter because they're baking. I enjoy watching this process and seeing this activity. It's much more enjoyable than... again, a Subway where all you see is some old bread sitting in a warming oven. The staff at the restaurant was also very pleasant. The manager came by to ask how everything was, and it was great, and he moved on. The woman behind the counter was nice enough as well. She put the drink my friend ordered on my tab since all I wanted was water - saved us a buck or so. I really appreciated that. This place was good around a year or 2 ago. Now the staff is extremely lazy when I went here recently. Employees are either walking around like zombies doing nothing. They forgot I got 2 cookies and gave me one. Didn't read directions and put turkey in my sandwich when we put no turkey. The food tastes hell of a lot worst. And all the drinks are extremely watered down. This place has really gone downhill in the last few years. And how do they run out of bread? A one star review is being generous. I met a client here for lunch - ordered the half Italian sandwich and half Greek salad. They handed me a buzzer and off we went to sit. About 15 minutes later I hear my name being yelled out that my order was ready. I walked over to the food counter and picked it up myself. No big deal, but why bother giving me a buzzer that doesn't work? I really wish I had taken pictures. The romaine was soggy, the one small tomato quarter was soggy as were the "pickled" onions - kalamata olives you ask? Yes, there were two of them and they tasted fine. The sandwich, well, the only part that was half anything was the bread. The meat was so thin it was barely noticeable. There was one tiny sprig of arugula and a small dot of basil mayo in the middle of the bread, it wasn't even spread out. It was horribly dry and tasteless. All in all it was a waste.
