After reading some of the hype and positive reviews about Panda Inn we decided to check it out for lunch since we were in Pasadena that morning. What a huge mistake! Unfortunately the Overall experience was extremely disappointing. I am actually still nauseated from eating the food almost 2 days later so I'm not 100% confident about their food contamination/safety procedures. I had heard that Panda Express chain originated from this restaurant and we would have been way better off getting some fast-food at Panda Express for far better food at less than half the price. (Oh yes this place is expensive too! Over $175 for 3 for lunch) . The server (William) was painfully slow. Two examples: 1) we waited 1/2 hour after we finished our appetizers until the entrees arrived and the entrees were all cold. William pulled a complete disappearing act during this time so no drink refills, no water, nothing. And the food was not only cold after sitting at the pass for God knows how long - it was all bland and under-seasoned. 2) Ultimately we figured the only possible saving grace was to add some Chinese hot mustard to give the food some oomph of flavor but they never brought any to the table despite asking the waiter William and even a couple of the others servers repeatedly (at least 6 times) for the elusive mustard that was never coming. The honey Walnut shrimp was under battered and tough and overcooked. The Popcorn Chicken was boring and gristly and came plain without any sauce (some hot mustard would have helped!) The Panda beef (their specialty?) was cold and the meat was tough. It is described as a spicy and was entirely bland (Again why did they never bring our hot mustard??!) and finally the same story with orange chicken. Cold, unseasoned, no spice. Again this could have been a little better with some hot mustard but after asking 6 or 7 times and waiting almost an hour- we gave up. We left almost 3 full plates of food at the table, uneaten. And did not ask for containers to take any of it home. You would think a manager would notice we were not eating most of our food or taking it home and check in with us, but no one noticed or cared. My mom retired so school is out permanently for her! LOL. My sister and I decided to take her out for lunch with our families. We were a party of 6 with 1 toddler and arrived around 11:30AM for Sunday Brunch. Yes, Panda Inn offers Sunday Brunch! I've eaten at Panda Inn before, but this was the first time any of us tried their brunch. My dad is handicapped (his knee) and unfortunately all the handicapped parking spots were taken when we pulled in. My dad asked if they offer senior discounts and they do not. We were seated right away at a round table against a corner. They offer Mai Tai and Mimosas. One complaint I have about where we were seated is that it was hard to get out of our seats. Once a party sat next to us at the next table, their chair was blocking our pathway so I had to keep asking my sister or husband to stand up so I could get out. The spread they offer is decent with classics like orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp, chow mein, fried rice etc. However, they are way more elevated compared to the stuff you find at Panda Express. The orange chicken tasted like real orange with orange zest it in. The fried rice had so much meat in it. They also had a "make your own soup" station, braised beef, and even sushi. After one plate, I was already so full and didn't even get to try everything. Dessert included various cakes, almond jello, regular jello, egg tarts, macarons, fresh fruit. My entire family enjoyed the meal and concluded that for a buffet, the food had good quality unlike other buffets we've eaten at where you have more choices, but the food was just okay. The thing that prevented us from coming here was mostly the price. I originally thought it was $27/adult. Knowing my parents, they don't want to spend that much for food, HA. Since everyone loves Panda and it was for my mom, I had to treat everyone. When the bill came, the total was $197.70 before tax so it was $32.95 per person. They didn't charge for my 2.5 year old nephew. WITH TAX, the total came out to $217.96 and had to add tip on top. Even though everyone loved it, I don't see us coming here regularly because not everyone can afford it, but I do see us coming here for brunch again for special occasions. read more

The ambiance was nice but they run lights at full brightness at night which is kind of weird for a Chinese restaurant. Food was great if they were able to bring the food warm enough and together. We were seated and didn't have a host for 40 minutes. Once our waiter arrived he immediately told us he is not our server and he's just filling in. He began to take our orders and ended up being our server for the rest of the night. We asked if we could get the string beans first as an appetizer which never happened. We waited at least another 45 minutes until our mains arrived. Our kung pao chicken and orange chicken arrived before our Lo mein noodles. Orange chicken was ice cold. After waiting another 20 minutes we asked our server what happened to the noodles and he said they're on the way. Another 40 minutes passed by and still no noodles. Our mains were cold by then since we wanted to eat our mains with our noodles. Total time spent waiting for noodles: 1 hour 40 Minutes. Really? How hard is it to bring noodles with the main course? I wonder if the noodles are still being made as I write this review. The service here is worse than the fast food version-at least there you get your items together and noodles don't take over an hour to make. read more

The panda inn was and is amazing, everything from the food on down to the service was great. Everyone that works here is very accommodating and friendly. Even the parking attendant bowed to me when I arrived and when I left, felt like I was royalty he definitely needs a raise. Now as far as the food is concerned I didn't want to veer away from any of the fan favorites dishes. So I decided to order crab cheese wontons, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, beef fried rice and last but not least orange chicken. The wontons were fire!!! I mean some of the best I've had in my life, Next the Orange Chicken and Beef rice was so good equally flavorful and fresh. The popcorn chicken that was suggested by the server was on point. I went with my friend after church and we were very excited to try this place out! We had reservations and were seated very quickly. When we sat down we had time to look over the menu for a drink then for food. We ordered egg rolls for an appetizer which came with 4 & a sauce. My friend ate two and I was eating my second one when the waitress came from behind me and started to grab my plate. I was not done eating my egg roll yet which was very clear and she could see that but instead of saying sorry and letting me finish , she asked if I wanted to keep my sauce. I quickly dipped my remainder egg roll into the sauce and then she took my plate. I was very shocked and me and my friend felt very rushed. I have never experienced this type of service in my life. When our food came out , it was good. We ordered the Phoenix chicken and we shared because we were told that most people share an entre because of the portion size & she was right. However , we couldn't enjoy our meal because we kept getting interrupted asking if we need anything then shortly after we said no she came back asking if we need a box. We just said sure , and she came back to pack up our food. She did not ask if we wanted two separate boxes which I thought was weird, we both asked for rice and she brought us one box with rice and packed our chicken in 1 box. We ended up leaving the restaurant and separating the rice and chicken ourselves so that we both can have leftovers. My friend and I did not get the chance to talk and spend time together like we intended to do or like most people do when they go out with friends to eat! We looked around to see if other customers were being treated the way we were being treated and we did not see anyone else being rushed. My Mom came here with her friends a few times and she told me it was pretty OK so I was so curious to try the place where Panda Express first started. To summarize, I would never come back again. I have no doubt. I spent $50 and got so little food that going to Panda Express and ordering a couple 2-entree plate is definitely a better option for me honestly. Our server lady was attentive and polite but with her hard accent, I could not understand her very clearly. I had to ask a couple times to clarify what I heard was what she said. The hall is very spacious and large, big enough to accommodate a very large group of people. Theres also a separate somewhat private dining area in the back of restaurant. Honey Walnut Shrimp, Mongolian Beef ans Plain Garlic Noodle was totally disappointing for me. I would go to Panda Express anyday over Panda Inn. Plenty of parking available next to the building. We came to the grand reopening and it was really great. We have been coming here for over 15 years so it was really great seeing familiar faces. Elaine helped us and she was as wonderful as always. My wife and I waited for the hustle and bustle of the grand opening to settle down so we could get back to one of our favorite restaurants in Pasadena. Having lived in Ptown for roughly 50 years, we're no strangers to Panda Inn. We ventured in on a Tuesday evening and we were sat right away. They sat us at a combo booth/chair section that in my opinion was a little too close to other guests ( we liked the original PI better). We ordered our standards...two apps, three entrees and a couple of drinks. The mu shu pork was fabulous as always. The spicy tuna crispy rice sushi was dreadful as the "crispy rice" was very chewy and void of flavor. Also there was no soy sauce on our table or soy sauce vessels so the pickled ginger and Wasabi were useless, I ended up taking a soy sauce off another table and pouring it onto the sushi plate...eh. The honey walnut shrimp is the flagship plate here and was delicious as always. The sweet and sour pork was a disappointment. Stringy and chewy bits of pork that mostly balled together in clusters that needed more than slippery plastic chop sticks to break apart into bite sized pieces. Lastly, the upside down crispy noodle is always a favorite but this time around was bland, bland, bland. Literally, no flavor. Now for the game changer... the new staff needs way more training and/or supervision. The service was awful!! Mostly very young faces walking around in circles talking to each other and walking right past tables, mindlessly wandering about the restaurant. As a patron I looked around at many tables that needed refills, napkins, water, plate clearing...etc. I saw one of the OG waiters from the original restaurant before the remodel...the original staff was awesome and made the dining experience a classic Pasadena must do. My wife and I exchanged looks of disappointment and did not take home leftovers for the first time in history from this place. The guests seated next to us read similar reviews to each other which actually spawned a conversation between us (again, very close seating) and we looked around the restaurant at a staff of 20 all standing around chatting and laughing with only a few actually moving with a sense of urgency and being attentive to diners. I had reservations for New Year's Eve I was surprised it was not crowded at the time we went, we got seated and after half hour I went to the hostess asking if anyone would be attending to us she said she would get our waiter, we waited another ten minutes. After we got served we had to get two other waiters attention for help, our waiter was nowhere to be seen, it did ruin our evening we did not have a pleasant dinner. read more

The restaurant remodeling is beautiful. That was definitely five star. Unfortunately the menu is much more limited in choices than before the renovation occurred. Also, the food was just okay and for the price I wish there had been more choices like before, and also the ability to modify some of the dishes such. As for vegetarians, there were only about four choices on the menu and previously before the renovation I was able to ask for one of the meat dishes and instead of me to have tofu as it substitute that wasn't possible now. Went in on Thanksgiving Eve with a large party and had the private room. Our server was nice but fell off the face of the planet once our food was delivered. Okay, it was Thanksgiving Eve so I know their busy. But hello, how about a quick check-in from somebody there, perhaps a manager if our server is super busy. I think they wanted us to leave when we were there for about an hour, because after an hour, our room got freezing cold, and we were all putting on jackets and beanies. But we wanted to leave but we couldn't find our server to ask for boxes. It was also a birthday so I asked for coffee. But apparently they don't have coffee there. But the tea was just as good. The Panda in is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants to go to. Very consistent and never disappointing. I would suggest the Mongolian Beef, and the crispy calamari, but I have not tried them all yet.. All I can say: enjoy dinner! read more
