What a pleasant surprise to find such good Mexican food in Brookings! The inside of the restaurant is quite colorful and attractive albeit quite noisy and our waitress Yolanda was efficient and timely. The chips were warm and the salsa tasty and mild, I would have like it a bit hotter. When our chips and salsa got low they immediately replenished it. We had a 1/2 carafe of wine, $8, the Fish Burrito $11.75, smothered in a creamy sauce and loaded with pieces of snapper, extremely tastfull and rich in fresh fish and spices flavor. Also had the Seafood Combo $12.95, a bowl of a rich hot and sour tasting fish broth filled with large shrimp, pieces of snapper, scallops and peppers, wonderful medium hot flavor and when I added some lime juice, it was over the top! I will return for sure, great and very tastefull meal. read more

Pancho's was recommended by the B&B where we stayed. I shared a single fajita's order with my wife and we both had plenty of food, and it was fantastic. Waiter was very nice also. We really liked the salsa and ended up purchasing a few jars to take home with us, at $2.75 a jar it is certainly a bargain. read more

The chips and salsa and guacamole were fantastic. Also had the wild snapper which came with rice and beans and it was meh. The carne asada was bland. The server was very nice, however. A few years ago my rating would have been a 4 or a 5 but they have gone a bit down hill. The chips and salsa are fantastic. In fact, I buy there salsa (they sell by the jar) for home. It is cheap and much better than anything store bought. I used to love their cheese enchiladas but they just have not been the same. Their refried beans are fantastic and many of their foods are good..........just not "out of this world". I highly recommend the margaritas. The blackberry is to die for. Very clean. Friendly fast service. Good menu. But the food is BLAND. You'll be hard pressed to find a jalapeño or sauces made with ground chiles. I had the shredded beef burrito and my wife had the veggie burrito. We even asked to have them spicy but not much flavor. This was our second stop here with the same opinion. what a gem in this little town of brookings! we spent 7 days in town and had to eat out a couple times/day, and ate here twice. then we ran out of time. wait staff superfriendly and attentive with the refills. the mini tostada with chicken was absolutely scrumptious. the mini tostada with pork, was good, the pork a bit dry. but still so good. hubby's tacos and enchiladas were excellent. he has never raved over enchiladas and tacos and rice and beans like he did here. wow. when we go back, our first stop will be at pancho's!! read more

I was in town to see my grandparents who live in town and the first night I got there we went to Pancho's. It was pretty good! I loved the rice, chicken tacos, chips are amazing, and they are very nice! I ended up going again (my Papa likes this place a lot hehe) and I had the same thing! Good combos, not pricey and I liked the atmosphere. Now, is this the best and authentic Mexican food ever? No, but it is the best bet for good food and good people! Oh and they do accommodate large groups and check on your table quite often which is nice! Go here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! :D read more

When we first moved here from Las Vegas, we tried evey Mexican the town had to offer, most were 'acceptable' one was totally disgusting & has now closed but, the pearl in the oyster was & still is Pancho's. Very clean, the staff always are dressed smartly & cleanly, very friendly service even when hectic lunchtime rush in full swing. The green pork salad, although not really mexican is really rather good, ask for it in a Tortilla Bowl with Mexican Ranch. read more

We love Pancho's!! We have family in Brookings and come up a couple of times a year. Pancho's is very consistent, good pricing, excellent food. We went to eat there a couple of times while we in town. The first time we shared the fish enchiladas, first time I have ever had a fish enchilada. It was so yummy! it had a green salsa and excellent fish. 2nd time we shared a quesadilla, very good. After having read several reviews my wife and I ventured to experience Pancho's Mexican cuisine. The interior was well lit and, for the most part, pleasant. Upon seating, the hostess poured water and promptly left without taking a drink order. We thought little of it, initially. After more than a few minutes our server took our drink order of two lime margaritas. We were rather excited having just ridden a number of miles on our bikes. While we waited, we munched on the mediocre chips and tomato paste salsa, both of which were complimentary, and worth every penny. The margaritas we were served were saccharin sweet, clearly something from the land of Margaritaville, or worse, Mr. and Mrs. T's fine offerings; high fructose corn syrup was more than prevalent in these drinks. I left mine unfinished, stopping after the first sip. My wife finally ordered the vegetarian fajitas while I optioned for the chicken fajitas, a choice I thought would be somewhat safe. After what wasn't a very long wait, the food arrived. My wife's fajitas, as she mentioned, were rather colorless, mine smelled of something odd, that I couldn't quite place, so far as fajitas go. She forked hers into her tortillas and commented that, besides the lack of color, they were good; the mushrooms were nicely done. After the first bite of my own dish, I still couldn't quite place the odd flavor, it certainly did not taste like any sort of fajitas that I've ever tasted. I asked my wife to taste, immediately she said, "It's liquid smoke." Then it hit me, yes, it was liquid smoke, a flavor I despise in food preparation. I decided to give it a try, and filled a tortilla with fajitas. Still, the flavor wasn't right, or even good. I filled the remaining fajitas with the provided beans, rice, sour cream and guacamole, which seamed a bit old based on the dull-grey/green sheen. Throughout our half-hour meal neither the hostess nor the server offered to refill our glasses of water, at one point, I thought the server might, as she looked down at my empty glass and immediately headed to the server's area. She did not return. There was one bright spot however. Midway through our meal the young hostess returned stating that the cooks had forgotten the bell peppers, she offered a very nice helping of freshly grilled green and red bell peppers, which really did help out my wife's vegetarian fajitas. She brought her leftovers back to our hotel, I left mine at the table. Even if the food had been, as it was, with sub-par dishes, had the attentiveness of the staff been appropriate, I would have had no problem giving a 3 star rating. I always leave a tip, generally in the 25% range. For this meal, I left 15%, and did not feel one bit bad about it. read more

OK, I am a happy victim of the urge for some cheesy beany meaty stewy stuff put in some sort of flour like wrapping every once in a while. (Burgers or sushi come first!) i happen to think that NEARLY all mexican cuisine tastes the same, especially here in Brookings. with that in mind, i rate Pancho's based on other items: the service, the tortilla chips, the prices, and the to go packaging. let me say right away that so many other places in Gold Beach and Brookings have stopped using styrofoam that it is just amazing that these folks charge what they do for such bland mexican food and can't shell out for 'green' packaging. and the to-go window is a total crap shoot. i called to ask for the burrito price; was told one thing and charged quite the other. and there's a 50 cent to go fee! try explaining to the bartender that you'd like a cadillac margarita with simple sugar and fresh squeezed citrus--whether lime or lemon--and he will stare you down like you are a member of ISIS. seriously, i think that the hype surrounding this place is just that. there's so few mexican restaurants here, and while Pancho's rates higher in cleanliness and ambiance, it's all the same pot of goulash to me! swap out that styrofoam! get that to go window on point! 86 the 50 cent fee! look up the recipe for SIMPLE SUGAR, believe me, it's a simple recipe and it is soooo much better tasting and healthier than heinous Margarita Mix! get some citrus in from across the street at the fruit stand! stop glaring at people at the bar who aren't regulars! jeez! i've been here nearly 3 years...i've given Pancho's a very fair shake...and i find it lacking. it's a severe case of the Emperor's New Clothes. OH! since when does a super burrito NOT come with guac AND sour cream INSIDE IT???? Pancho's wants .99 cents for each of those EXTRAS! and a TO GO burrito should always come in foil, right? as in, you're starving for it and wanna eat it whilst driving! if i wanted it to be a lovely wet burrito, i'd have told you! that was the day i unwittingly spent nearly $10 on a dang burrito! :) read more

if you have ever had great Mexican food anywhere you will know this is not it! The rice was good, the beans not so much. The chili rellano was just ok. But not the nice large pablano pepper I am used to but a small Anaheim with the seeds still in it. gross! The guacamole had so much lime juice or lemon juice it could not have been made fresh but made in advance and the juice holding it from turning brown. Will never ever eat there again. read more

We were camping on the coast and it got too late in the day to campfire cook, so we decided to dine in at Pancho's based on all the 4 and 5 star reviews. We were so disappointed. I had the Camerones ala Creme...more like Camerones ala CRAP! My boyfriend had the seafood burrito...also CRAP. Both of our dishes came out smothered in this sour cream sauce that was the color of pepto bismal. Now I love sour cream, but this sauce was terrible. It tasted like it was made out of oil, sour cream, ketchup, and green chilies. The seafood was not fresh, (you could totally tell it was frozen) which was disappointing since the restaurant is located on the Oregon Coast and you can buy fresh seafood down at the docks. The sales tasted like tomatoes and sugar. I give them 2 stars because the nachos appetizer was pretty delicious (not totally swimming in cheese and oil), and the restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. If ever in the area again we would pass this place up, I recommend trying other places in Brookings. We also had the worst stomach ache that night and all the next day. read more

We live in Portland, but go to Brookings regularly to visit Mom. We always have lunch there at least twice. Their margaritas are great and the taco salad is one of the best I've had....the shell was fresh and crispy, put together with the correct yummy ingredients to crunch ratio...I like to be my crunch on. Hands down the worst service in Brookings. I have tried this place several times before and every time, it's very disappointing. I enjoy their food but will never return again because the service is terrible and the staff does not care what so ever! The food orders are wrong, mixed up or not what we ordered at all... We heard about Poncho's thru Yelp. Everyone was giving great reviews so we decided to give it a try. My friend is handicapped and has to use a walker to get around. There is one handicap parking slot which was taken when we arrived. We parked as close as we could to the door which was somewhat hilly. She has problems with hills. We went into the restaurant and tried to find a somewhat level area to sit. The tables were set so that one or more chair legs were on gravel and the rest on uneven slab type rocks which made it difficult for her to get seated. Once seated, we waited for a server to come by....none showed up until we'd been there about 5 minutes. She said, "Oh, I didn't know you were there." They had been walking by us for almost 5 minutes. The waitress brought us water and a menu. We looked and finally decided on what we would have for dinner. Finally, the waitress came by again and took our order.. fajita tacos and carne asada. The patio only had two tables with diners other than us. About ten minutes later, our food was brought out. In all honesty, it was not even average in flavor and it wasn't as hot as it should have been. We didn't see the waitress again. We had to ask for water. The bus girl brought out the check. We paid her and left. We will never return to Poncho's. read more

The food was good, but the service was horrible! We ate out on the patio. It took a while to be noticed that we were ready to order our meals. Then it took forever to get our food. Then, when we were finished, it took forever to get our bill. My husband had to go ask twice for our bill. We got there around 6:00 & finally were able to leave at 8:00! Chicken enchaladas were great. Fresh homemade red sauce was delicious. Came with rice & pinto beans. Beans were a little boring. Homemade salsa was great. Bought some to take home. Tex mex soup was very flavorful but there was too much chicken ( which was kinda dry) & not enough veggies for my taste. Had a yummy margarita! Place was very clean & nice ambiance. Everyone was very friendly. & service was great & with a smile! Would have given a 5 if not for the beans & dry chicken in the soup.
