Top notch restaurant where we have dined many times. We had reservations for the patio, and we were then seated at the warm comfortable bar. The service was perfect, the cocktails were magnificent, and the vinegar and oil for the bread were wonderful our salads, both beet and harvest were perfect. We had cioppino with generous amounts of fish . The venison special was initially undercooked, and promptly returned cooked more, per my request, and was quite delicious. The desserts were wonderful. When we came in, we were promptly greeted and seated. Loved the stain glass pony! The table was uniquely set with metal goblet glasses. Kyle was our server and very nice. We ordered the special pulled pork sandwich, which my dad said was 10/10 and was also recommended by a lady in the parking lot. My husband got the torta and he said it was great, that the dipping sauce was mild but delicious. I got the ahi tuna salad and a couple pieces tasted "fishy" (I know...it's tuna) but they accommodated me by leaving off the edamame and slaw since I have some weird food allergies. Overall, I think it was okay but I might have ordered wrong. I also got two Moscow mules which were tasty, and my husband got a holiday cocktail that was also festive with rosemary and cranberry. House with lots of good seats, booths and comfortable chairs. The location is really good, and it is a nice place to gather. We came here for a birthday celebration, and while the food and presentation looked good. The actual flavors and tastes were left wanting. We had the tuna salad, the meatloaf, torta, and steak. The mashed potatoes were dry, and lacking flavor. The gravy was almost nonexistent, and the meatloaf was the dry piece of meat. I've had in a long time that cost that much the desserts look good, but I was so disappointed in the food that I couldn't bring myself to order one and pay more money. For what you pay at this location one might think the food would be much better. read more

We had the best Easter evening dining with Painted Pony. We sat on the patio, the weather was perfect. Their house bread was delicious with oil and vinegar. They had a special of French onion soup with crostini and melted Swiss that was a delightful starter. We had the pork chop and ribeye. The pork chop had an apricot topping that blended well. Stopped in for dinner while in town on business. Nice inside, up a flight of stairs. We were an hour early for our reservation and they were able to accommodate us. Really appreciate it! Service was excellent. Waiter was friendly and took us through the specials while answering our questions We ordered the olive fritters, the bacon wrapped dates, the onion soup for appetizers and I got the duck breast entree and my wife got the halibut. Olive fritters were more like fried olives than fritters but were very good. Dates were amazing. Very tasty, my wife doesn't usually eat them but she was chowing them. Onion soup was very good. A little on the sweet side for me but the wife loves it that way. We make a good team as she likes the broth and cheese while I get the onions LOL. Was very tasty The duck was perfect. Cooked just right, med rare and sauced perfectly. Rosemary bread pudding was good as well. Duck comes skin on and it was really delicious Halibut was good as well, seared crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly. Service was great, courses spaced out so we didn't get all the food at once. Attentive but not hovering. Just a great time! read more

Fabulous experience! The service is five stars. You think of St George as a small town and May even question if it's worth stopping at for anything other than Gas. But the Painted Pony is beautiful! From ambiance, to the delivery of the service, we were totally satisfied. The wine selection was easy to select from, either by the glass or bottle. The menu changes from season to season. I started off with their seasonal beet salad, that I wish I would have eaten slower! It was delicious. Then I selected the slow cooked short rib which was very flavorful and paired well with a red blend. My wife ordered a steak dish. One of my children ordered the lamb chops, which were perfectly prepared. My other child order a fish dish. Everyone enjoyed their food, I only regret is, my family loved their food so much they didn't share! The painted pony is an elegant restaurant, perhaps a bit overpriced. The presentations of the dishes are an artistic delight. The taste did not reflect the delight of the presentation. While bison is leaner than beef, the bison tenderloin, prepared rare, was somewhat dry and not very flavorful. Duck comfit is known for its silky, moist tenderness, but the duck confit I had was dry and somewhat tough. The venison served at another table looked fantastic. I should've tried it. The bread was bread. The portions are generous. The wait staff deserves six or seven stars. All were friendly, polite, and attentive. read more

The Painted Pony is an upscale restaurant, with beautiful ambience, impeccable service, a romantic vibe, and a talented chef. There was a great selection of wines both by the glass and the bottle as well as a beer list. The seasonal menu offered a lot of options and we had a hard time deciding, but ultimately, the Mr ordered the bone in pork chop and I chose the rack of lamb. Both entrees were paired with delicious accompaniments and plated artfully. For dessert the Mr. chose the Coconut Key Lime Pie (his favorite) and I got the "Strawberries & Cream" which was comprised of a white chocolate cheesecake, strawberries, and pound cake. It sounded and looked better then it tasted. This was the only 'miss' for us the whole evening. This is definitely a splurge worthy and special occasion kind of place. Giancarlo is our Server, very polite, attentive and knowledgeable, especially with a new menu just put in place. The young man assisting Giancarlo is Brian/Bryan and he is so attentive it's great to see. Thanks to everyone for making our dining experience a pleasure. Manhattan was good, Raspberry Framboise was nice and tasty. Green Goddess Salad was very tasty but big enough for two, Pork Chop was decent, flavorful and tasty. I've been coming here for years and LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I always order the tuna melt and it's my favorite in the whole world. The house salad with walnuts and blue cheese is equally amazing! I also just had their newest crab cakes which were better than ever. Beautiful outside patio seating. The only thing I miss is that they used to offer a shrimp dish as an appetizer which was super yummy but it hasn't been on the menu for years. I had the meatloaf for lunch. It sure didn't look or taste like it was homemade. As a matter of fact, it did not look like meatloaf. It looked like it had been cut off of a meatloaf "log" of processed food. There was no texture of hamburger. The meatloaf had been ground to a paste and reconstituted into a patty. My companion had an other beef entree and it too was exactly the same size, shape, and texture of my meatloaf. We both agreed the service and ambiance were great, but the food we ordered was a real disappointment. We won't come back. read more

We arrived at the painted pony around 730 on a Monday. The restaurant was challenging to find. This could have been our fault, but seemed like the locations fault. The hostess was lovely and showed us to our table. We ordered lots of stuff and were disappointed with half of it. First came the bread. Bread was good. Chewy with a robust crust. Our buzzer was awesome. Very unsure of himself. Reminded me of me. 30 years ago. You're going to go far kid. When our salad and appetizer arrived. The evening started to stink like the other patron scallops next to us. The blue cheese salad was delicious. However the crab cakes were not. Though they looked amazing. We knew by their large size that they were mostly flour and then when we bit in to them. We knew it was fake crab or old crab. Who knew The fluffy crab cakes with the beautiful carrot dice and blackberry stuff flopped all over it would be so terrible. They had the texture of cat food. Finally our entrees arrived. I ordered the ribeye and my wife ordered the hangar steak. My ribeye was cooked and seasoned perfectly the blue cheese butter made my mouth sing. However the can of corn that was haphazardly dumped on my steak ruined the presentation and offended my taste buds. My wife's hangar steak was terribly undercooked. They had to refire it twice and still failed to get it to medium rare. The pineapple chimichurri was an experiment that went wrong in some test kitchen that a person with zero taste buds must have approved. Overall the experience was great. However, due to having some self respect we will never return because of how badly the manager and server dropped the ball. We obviously did not like the food as we did not eat much of it, but because we did not complain. We received our entire bill. The restaurant business fails in this regard. It rewards complainers with free food and drinks, but if you're pleasant and happy. You get the full bill. Disappointed but mostly full. A local hiking guide recommended this wonderful restaurant to some friends and me during a getaway weekend at the Red Mountain Resort. We didn't know anything about it other than we were told it was good. That was an understatement. We were seated outside because that was the first seating available for our reservation. At first we were concerned about the cold, but the patio was so cozy with plenty of heaters and blankets if we needed them. It was so quaint and intimate, we all felt like were were in a cozy little treehouse above the street. The ambiance was perfect, as was the service. (Our server was Cyndy - she was full of information, answered every question, made great recommendations). If that wasn't enough, the food was spectacular: we had the phyllo baked brie w/a blueberry compote and roasted garlic to start, and one order of the carrot jalapeno soup. Everyone raved. For dinner, I had the petit tenderloin with a delicious root veggie puree. The others had honey glazed scallops, the Faroe Island salmon, and Airline Chicken. All of them were beautifully prepared, fresh, and well worth the price. Extensive wine menu - hundreds of wines. There is no wine list available on their website. That's possibly a Utah thing.
