I discovered their Jaengban Jjajangmyun and I have never been the same. It's like jjangmyun got an upgrade. It is a little spicy but I loved that. You can adjust the spiciness. Also, fair warning, it's a lot of food. You can easily share this noodle dish between two people. So it's a good deal! Also had their sweet and sour pork (tangsuyuk) which was good, nothing mind blowing but good to eat. The mayo shrimp is nice as well. Reminds you of honey walnut shrimp, but without the walnut. That went well with the jaengban jjangmyun too because of its sweetness since the noodles are more salty. Currently they do carry out and delivery through third party apps. I did carry out and also paid in cash, to help support local businesses. I am impressed at the care they took in packing the food. Everything was well packed (no leaks) and even presented! All the employees appear to be Korean and there were lots of Korean-speaking customers picking up their take out. Whoa!! We live in Chicago and don't normally drive out to the suburbs but we were craving some Korean comfort food and stumbled upon Baek Jong-won's restaurant while doing out food search. We were extremely excited to try and we were not disappointed!! We ordered jjampong, tangsuyuk, and jjajangmyeon. Everything was so tasty. The tangsuyuk was very special here the flying batter was nothing I've ever had before. The pork was crunchy and airy - it was like eating Cheetos Puffs! The jajangmeyon doesn't taste like one it's flavorless, like bland. I was a fan of Korean food not until I've eat here like 2-3 times disappointed. Also I've notice that when you're not finished eating, or just in the middle processing eating. You don't put check on their side or stare at them while eating that's considered rude. Plus it's giving a uncomfortable situation and atmosphere. Customer service needs to improve, like no need to rush the customer to leave that Quickly. Even when it's not busy or crowded some people are still, trying to enjoy their meal's after long day at work school etc. Third when taking customers to be seated, I've observe when the first customer walked in and there's Group of family 4-3 who's behind us the others who came in first. You guys are fast with them compare to the others who walked in first. Well that's not fair at all, because that's picking on which one goes first. I revisited Paik's noodle on the 4/14 to celebrate Black Day. It was busy when I went on a Friday evening, and I think two workers were working. I walked up to get seated. They cleaned the table quickly, and I ordered a black bean noodle (jjajangmyeon) and sweet and sour pork (tangsooyook) with Sprite. The food was good. If you've had jjajangmyeon and tangsooyook before, the flavors are very expected. Like nothing mindblowing, but pretty solid. I like my noodles saucy, saucy enough to mix some rice after. You know what I mean? With that said, the jjajangmyeon was not very saucy. The tangsooyook was good too. I like that they brought out the sauce on the side because I like to dip my tangsooyook in the sauce. The day I went was pretty windy, and whenever people came in and out, the wind would blow in and make my food cold fast. It's also my fault because I must let my camera eat first. They are a few doors from a daycare so be careful around pick up time.. parents and kids trying to get home in a hurry. Thank goodness they accept credit cards. The beef broth is clear and soooo good!! Same with the sweet and sour pork. The sauce comes on the side so it doesn't drown the crispy pork slices. Another tasty sauce! Just the right amount of sweet too. Is it the wood ear mushrooms in the sauce and the soup that lends its flavor? What ever it is, it's so tasty. Good food, decent service (everyone seems overworked), but no WiFi? And why don't they turn on the AC in the summer?!

The last time I had their food was in Los Angels and back then they had 4 items on their menu, looks like they have expanded their offerings. Stopped in for late lunch, went with the following: - jjambbong - tangsuyuk First and foremost, due to COVID-19, you'll be required to wear a mask. They will ask you if you are there for dine-in or carry out. For dine-in, they will check your temperature before seating you. Their tables has been separated to give a lot of space between other tables. Jjambbong - the broth was good, bit salty but it did hit the spot. The drawback - few pieces of squid, 3 mussels and lots of veggies! The pork used must been port loin, as it was tough to chew. The price used to be $6, but that was many years ago and in Los Angels. tangsuyuk - not worth it. The sauce was very bland, veggies looked like they were sitting in a hot pan waiting, as their color has changed and lacked crisp with each bite. Lacked sourness in the sauce, no sweetness as well. The fried pork lacked crispiness. Most likely the pork was fried and placed under hot lamp. When order came in, they plated, sauced it and sent it out. It'd been nice if they re-fried it before plating it. From to beginning to end, everything moves quickly. Once you order, you get sides of onions/yellow radish and black bean sauce and water. The Tangsuyuk came first and then the jjambbong. The service itself was good, wish the food was good as well. read more

Jjajangmyun - a little on the sweet side, but this dish can use the sweetness. It was actually really good. On both of the noodle dishes, the noodles were cooked just right. Tangsooyuk - (sweet and sour pork) oh yum! I was looking for these rice flour battered ones since I had them in Korea. I loved these! They're chewier than the wheat flour batter. I came here on the recommendation, and it was pretty good. I wish there was more sauce on the black bean noodles but the spicy seafood soup was very good. Also got one of the shrimp and it was pretty tasty. Unfortunately for Paik's Noodle, it is sandwiched between two extremely popular restaurants in SGD and Bonchon. This distracts from the great appeal of fresh noodles, served quickly, in large portions, and at a budget price. It can get busy at certain times of the day though, where you'll be rushed to order (but it'll still take quite a while to pay the check). The interior is nice and attractive, quite spacious with lots of pictures of dishes and the chef on the wall. There is a pretty consistent theme of wood and metal materials in all the decorations with a bold red wall lining all sides of the restaurant. Here are my thoughts on the items I tried. 1. Jjampong: Spicy and satisfying with a nice slurpy noodle. There's a fairly generous amount of seafood which gets more than enough flavor for the strong pepper flavor in the broth. 3. Beef Jjampong: Nice shrimp with beef that was tasty but thin cut. The broth was really light in flavor but fortunately the noodles are delicious and perfectly slurpy. There is a lot of wood ear, cabbage, and carrots to add texture to this dish. 5. Jjajangmyeon: Perfectly slurpy noodles with fresh cucumber and tender pork hidden in a thick black bean sauce. Despite being a super dark color, the sauce is actually quite light with a strong sweetness and taste of onion. 7. Jaengban-jjajang: Good "wok hay" -- reminds me of stir fried udon, but I think this is done better than most habachi places. The texture of the noodle strikes a perfect balance between firm and soft and would be delicious, even without the seafood. 11. Gunmandu: All sides of the dumpling were crisped up nicely and this was surprisingly not too oily. These dumplings had a nice pork flavor and were not too salty. The dumpling itself had a nice thin, but elastic skin. 12. Hong Kong wings: The garlic soy sauce matches nicely with the juicy and tender chicken. This chicken isn't as crispy as bon chon, but I liked the flavor of this meat better. Overall, the food is not super surprising, crazy, or special -- but it does provide great comfort food at a very reasonable price. The menu is limited, but you don't have to worry about any bad items on the menu. This restaurant is worth a visit alone for the fresh noodles, which aren't too common in the Chicago suburbs. read more

Was very seeet reminded me of walnut shrimp without the walnut. This is delicious but feel like for me in needed soy or salt .added chili powder would have liked a little heat to it . Did I use an entire half day to travel to the burbs for this? Yes I did, that's how good it is. I know Paik's is a chain and the first time I had it was in Texas but I've pretty much been hyper-fixated on it ever since. It's also the only place I know of in the Chicagoland area that does Jjiajangmyeon AND Tangsuyuk which is a very specific Korean Chinese cuisine that consists of crispy pork drenched in sweet and sour sauce/veggies. And I know that sounds like any other sweet and sour pork dish but this one is better trust me, it's so crispy! Same goes for the Jjiajangmyeon, I know a lot of other places that serve korean food in Chicago have it but this is my favorite one i've had in the Chicagoland area. You can actually taste the chunks of pork belly and veggies and the noodles have such a good texture. Also the food portions are huge!! Both these things lasted me a good 4 meals for myself. In terms of service it was very basic. They took our order, brought our food, and gave us our check. Nothing else done outside of that. We ordered the mayo shrimp, jang bahn jja jang myun, and tahng soo yook . They make their jang bahn jja jang myun over the flame wok giving it that "flame broiled" taste. It's 2 servings so keep that in mind. On top of that they added some red chilis in there to give it some kick. It's not too overpowering. If spice isn't your thing I suggest you go with their standard jja jang myun. It's generously plopped with various proteins such as pork, shrimp, squid, etc. Be sure to look at their posters or menu to see what proteins are in each item. Their tahng soo yook was not worth getting. The pieces of fried pork were all bland. I'm used to having it fried golden brown. Their batch was mostly white. Not sure if it's the batter that they used but yeah it didn't stay crispy for very long even after we told them to put the sauce on the side. The sauce itself was overly sweet. It is supposed to be sweet but not like that. If you really are craving tahng soo yook and you don't want to travel that far I suggest you go to Lai Lai located in Assi Plaza's food court. It pairs well with their jja jang myun there. The mayo shrimp was actually not bad. It reminds me of the walnut shrimp you get at Chinatown. I think personally having walnuts on top would've actually made this dish better but that's just my opinion. Will need to see what else is worth eating here on another visit. Oh also I suggest you wash it down with some cold carbonated beverage to wash down the food. Definitely helps! read more

As a Korean guy originally from New York, I haven't been too impressed with Korean food in the Chicago area. However, this restaurant was great. The restaurant gave me cafeteria vibes, and the workers were very friendly and attentive. I had the jangban jajang and the tangsooyook. Jangban jajang: portion was huge. It's usually for 2 people to share, but i feel like it can feed 3 people. It was delicious. The flavor was exactly what I expect of a good jajangmyun, and the squid, shrimp, and meat in it were cooked well. Call me spoiled, but I wasn't expecting the shrimp to have the tail shell on it. It's not a big deal though, you can just eat around it or just peel it off. 5/5. Tangsooyook: portion was also large. They gave the sweet+sour sauce on the side, which i liked because my preference is to dip the tangsooyook in soy sauce. The tangsooyook itself was crispy and delicious. However, I would say the sweet+sour sauce was sweeter than other tangsooyook sauces i've tried. 4.5/5 Overall, I give this place a 5/5, since I really enjoyed my experience here. The place prob has some of the worst customer service or the most racially motivated staff i have ever seen. Coming in as a non-korean and ordering before a few groups who ordered the same thing and seeing them served first is something i wouldn't expect in 2023! An example is we ordered dumplings, a party gets seated after us and also orders dumplings and they receive their dumplings 10 mins before we receive ours. Seeing people come-in and order togo and get their food is also something (i guess people togo get priority since they charge $1 per container lol). ambiance is ok, clean building just service being the worst i ever seen. food is not worth coming back. This place has been bookedmarked for awhile and finally got the chance to do a take out order from here. We only ordered 1 item to try as we were passing by on the way home. The #9 jaengban jjajang for $16.95. It states that it serves 2 and they are correct. The portion is huge. It was enough for 2 adults and even with leftovers. The noodles are a bit spicy especially as you continue to eat more of it. You can request a lower spice level if wanted. The black noodles is one of my favorite Korean food, I'm not gonna lie and the taste was a bit different than expected. Was it bad?
