My family's search for the best jajangmyeon noodles in the Chicagoland area brought me to Paek's Noodles, but we were sorely disappointed. Pros: the actual noodles were firm and the best part of the dish. Cons: The jajang sauce was extremely and unnecessarily sweet for some reason; the "meat" in the jajangmyeon was so thinly cut and hard from overcooking that it had the exact same consistency as beef jerky; the sweet and sour pork was also way too sweet; the sweet and sour sauce was filled with low-cost fillers, like carrots and cabbage instead of your typical pineapple; the pork in the sweet and sour dish was, again, so thinly cut (about the same width as their noodles) and over-fried, that it was a struggle to chew. Bonus con: They actually charged us a few extra dollars for the packaging, or what they called "boxes," for our $100+ takeout order. They were your typical plastic, bulk to-go take-out containers. The infuriating extra charges were the final blow for us not wanting to return. read more

I came here for lunch and fortunately was able to find a table right away. They were very friendly and welcoming as soon as I walked inside building. They have a small menu, and decided to try their Bokkeummyeon, which is a stir fried noodle with shrimp and pork with veggies. It was a rather large plate that was very filling and flavorful. Definitely worth the price that I paid for it. Only downside for me was that half way into my meal I starting noticing that I haven't tasted the shrimp yet. My favorite jjamppong place in Chicagoland. Their pepper jjamppong can get super spicy but its still delicious if your up for it. Their sweet and sour pork is pretty good compared to many other places in town - taste fresher and crispier. Personal preference but I love their creamy shrimp more than their red sauce one. Also, its not a high-end restaurant so their service is minimal but I love that. Everyone seems friendly! read more

My friends and I were lucky that we came in just when they open at 11am. It shortly became a full house on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered jaengban jajang (2 serving size), jajangmyeon, jjamppong and tangsuyuk. Everything was delicious, except for the jajangmyeon. Maybe because the jaengban jajang was really good that it made the jajangmyeon mediocre. They were both really similar too except that jajangmyeon didn't have all of the shrimp, mushrooms and vegetables in it. We love everything else. The jaengban jajang was really big, we had some leftovers too because we ordered other foods. The jjamppong was also good, but I expected it to be more spicy since it was supposed to be spicy. There were some spice to it, but not enough spiciness for me since I can handle really spicy food. They jjamppong bowl size was also huge, I feel like the food there was worth the price. What a deal! Paik's Noodle offers a minimal menu at a relatively cheap price. They specialize in their jjambbong and jjajangmyun dishes, which are priced under $10. They also offer wings, deep-fried shrimp mayo, deep fried mandoo (potstickers), and tangsooyook (deep-fried pork with sweet & sour sauce. The location was larger than I expected. It's kind of dark inside, but very roomy with several tables and chairs. I ended up ordering the squid jjambbong, which had a large amount of chewy and juicy squid. It was the right level of spicy for me and the noodles were thick and tasty. I kind of a wished that the jjambbong had more seafood options, but this one was specifically only made with squid. They have chopsticks and spoons in a wooden box on the table and it's pretty much a quick eat and go kind of place. Service was friendly and fast. I would highly recommend checking out Paik's if you're somewhat on the go. It's not fancy, but it definitely exceeds expectations. read more

When I opened Tangsuyuk box, couldn't believe my eyes. Its portion was a joke. It was reduced by 1/3 as if it was a leftover. And the noodles were not typical jjajangmyeon noodle which has a unique chewy texture, and it was more like overcooked store-bought flour noodles. The food, while not bad, isn't as good as our go-to Chef Ping's or Yu's Mandarin. We enjoyed the noodle dishes, and we can perhaps see us ordering out in the future. What placed a bad taste during our visit was the restaurant charging us for the to-go containers at the end of our visit. They not only raised the price on the menu but also charged for the to-go container. Charging for the to-go container is a very rare practice. We will not return for dining in for sure. read more

I stopped by on the way home from visiting my parents in the suburbs. I hadn't stayed for dinner & was wanting Korean noodles. Paik's Noodle was a treat. When I walked in the ladies greeted me nicely & were very warm. I ordered Bokkeummyeon for carry out & it turned out to be delicious. The noodles were well made, the proteins were delicious. The shrimp were a little skimpy & small, but that is ok & next time I would ask that they be left out. I'd rather have pork. I was really pleased with my meal & I will def order again. Soon! I really want to try the Jajangmyeon. The restaurant was immaculate, had a nice atmosphere, & I'd like to dine in when this pandemic is over. The food quality became terrible. Sweet and sour dish had meat that must have been going bad. it had that smell and taste to it that comes from rancid meat. The sauce had chemically smell to it probably from cheap vinegar. The table behind complained of their noodle soup. They said it had a weird taste and they couldn't eat it. It sounded like the soup had the same bad rancid meat. The owner actually tasted the soup herself and brought another bowl for them. But the customer said they can't eat it and left without paying. I don't know why this place got bad reviews before but their food is decent and service is good (fast! as all chinese places should be). You have to order jaengban jjajang (stir fried black noodle on a platter) when you go here. It's the best bang for the buck. Jaengban jjajang is a little bit on the spicier side compared to the regular kind so be prepared to sweat a little. The texture of the noodle is amazing and the portion is huge. More than enough for 2 people. We kept eating even though we were full bc we liked the texture of the pan fried noodles. Tangsuyuk (deep fried pork w sweet and sour sauce) is another classic dish that you can't go wrong w here. They seem to use the sticky rice batter which makes this tangsuyuk extra crispy. They serve the sauce poured-over as a default so if u want the sauce on the side, make sure u let them know in advance. This place has been opened for two days now~ the line is long but the wait isn't so bad! The founder and Chef of this chain restaurant in South Korea is one of the most talented and well known chef. With that said, there is only six items on the menu. Short and concise~ black bean noodle or black bean and rice, jam pong (spicy broth noodle) or jam pong and rice, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and also their spicy noodle Bokeum. My family and I ordered the black bean noodle, jam pong and also the tangsuyuk. I also wanted to try the spicy noodle Bokeum (stir fry) but they were out and couldn't make anymore (mind you it was 1pm and they are opened until 10pm) for ingredients to be out that early in the day is a huge disappointment. The tansuyuk is by far the chewiest sweet and sour pork I've ever had. The batter is light, crispy and more pork than batter combination. I usually don't like the sauce drenched in my tansuyuk but I didn't mind it this time because the sauce isn't overly sweet like other places make them. Black bean noodle- when the dish comes out you can already see a shine and gloss to the noodles~ not overly cooked but the texture feels like spaghetti noodles but chewier. The sauce was typical (I prefer twin dragons sauce) but it's the noodle that will make you want to come back. Jam pong- same noodle but the broth has a curry spice to it. Overall, it's a 7/10. I prefer my jam pong to have a nice spicy refreshing kick with a seafood after taste. I love curry but not really the taste I want in my jam pong. Unlike regular Korean/Chinese restaurants this place does not give you kimchi or raw onions. Just a little dish of daikon. That does make the place cleaner and smell more refreshing. Overall, for it being opened only for two days- the staff was quick and attentive. I will try this place again and order the rice and black bean combo, def the tansuyuk and hopefully get to order the noodle Bokeum! read more

I came here on a weekend for lunch and we were seated right away (it is quite spacious). The service was excellent...we were given frequent refills of tea and the staff are friendly. Another plus is that everything on the menu is reasonably priced. Hubby and I both ordered the jajangmyeon while my brother ordered the chicken wings. My brother had low expectations for the chicken but he thought it was pretty good and hes' usually very picky. The jajangmyeon was decent. Had the jjajang myun, fried mandu, tangsooyook, and fried shrimp (yeah, I'm a fat kid). They are all the bomb diggity. I was excited to give Paik's Noodle a try because I heard it was a good Korean franchise but I came away a little disappointed. It started out very nicely with a friendly greeting and good prompt service and we then had the gunmandu or fried pork dumplings which were crisp light breading with a tasty pork center. My husband had the jajangmyeon which is the black bean sauce with bits of pork and noodles and that was great! I had the bokkeummyeon which is stir fried noodles with pork shrimp and vegetables but there was only 2 tiny pieces of tiny minute little shrimp with scattered bits of pork and mainly vegetables. It was tasty but one should be able to expect to find a little more than 2 pieces. The prices must reflect that there really isn't any source of protein in their entrees. read more

This is what we call a Chinese Korean restaurant/cuisine. Paik's Noodle offers a very short simple menu. It mostly focuses on black bean noodle (jjajjangmyun) and spicy seafood noodle soup (jjamppong). It's a chain restaurant that started in Korea by a famous chef in Korea. Think of Gordon Ramsay or any of the top notch chefs you might know on a national level and this is the guys level in Korea. Came here by myself after a work trip and got the black bean noodle (jjajjangmyun) and sweet and sour crisy pork (tang soo yook). The prices are very affordable, however in my opinion the black bean noodle was very underwhelming. Nothing close to what you can get in Korea. The tang soo yook however was phenomenal. It was cooked perfectly, crispiness was amazing and just the amount of sweet and sour sauce was perfect. Usually places like this, they give some side dishes like kimchi (spicy radish) or onion with black bean sauce. Unfortunately they only give you this yellow radish which is a staple when it comes to this cuisine but disappointed that that's the only thing they give you as a side. All in all, it's not a bad spot if you like this kind of food. I'll probably be back if I'm in the area. read more

I've been looking for a comfort food place and paik's noodle hit right on the spot. Came in on Sunday during lunch time and it was not too busy. Servers were all friendly and got seated right away. The food came out pretty fast after putting in the order. The noodle was not too salty or too sweet which I like and the portion was pretty huge for me. They gave a generous amount of sauce and you can taste the veggie and meat in it. The tangsuyuk came out hot and since I had the sauce on the side, it was still crispy and tasted great. The portion was huge as well that I had to bring 2/3 of it home. I would say this is a quick bite kind of place. If you are looking for fancy korean chinese restaurant, look for somewhere else. The atmosphere was very friendly and authentic. We ordered our food and it was brought out to us in a timely manner. The Kong Kong wings came out first. They were amazing, both crunchy and moist with a sweet flavor. The noodles came out next. They were piping hot, super long, very stretchy and fresh. The shrimp in this pasta dish was clean and surprisingly fresh too. We had to send our order back because they mistakenly gave us an entrée with meat, but they were very friendly about the mistake apologetic, and enthusiastic to make it right. Came here. On a whim for lunch with my Dad and was enticed by the outside window marketing of their menu. Ordered mandu, both flavors of chicken wings, shrimp in mayo, beer and tangsuyuk. The mandu was super fresh and hot out of the fryer. The sauces for the wings are great! True to the sweet and spicy as well as the garlic and soy. Wish they were a bit more crispy and crunchy though. The flavor of the sauce itself was lovely so I think I'll try it with rice next time! My mom loved her mixed noodles and dumplings, so I'm happy overall to have gone. I enjoyed our stop for a noodle dinner here on a cold night. The complimentary brown rice flavored hot water really hit the spot for us on this frigid night. We had the # 1 jjamppong (spicy noodle soup for $6.99) and # 5 bokkeummyeon (stir fried noodles for $8.49). The # 1 noodle soup was an exceptionally good value for its serving size and contents. The #5 dish had a sugary flavor, much like a pad thai dish. We asked for minimum salt use, and dish flavor turned out nice for us. The menu is a bit limited, but folks that come here know what they want from this noodle shop. The noodles were very fresh, and you can tell from the taste, body, and stickiness of the noodles. Overall, I'd say about 4.5 stars for this outing. Honestly love Paik's noodle. Their jajangmyun is just like what my mom and the church ladies used to make, the noodles are especially good and the serving is so generous it's enough for multiple meals. Their dumplings and garlic chicken wings are also to die for. They give you a generous portion of yellow radish to go with your food, and their observance of COVID guidelines is really good. They also pack food up really well and I would say it's a really good value for your money. The owners are super nice as well. I would definitely come back and get take-out or eat in again! read more
