It's not kbbq but rather cozy casual environment with 1-2 person dishes like goat/beef/pork/seafood jeongol, stews, bean sprouts, etc. Not cheap but extremely large portions so great for sharing. I like the spicy pork trotter and goat stew in particular. Parking is easy but a bit strange getting in because Haewadall and CVS are in this little triangle island between 3 roads. We've ordered from here a handful of times now, and I'll say the quality is pretty consistent. Not sure what the inside is like, but we've never had any problems ordering to-go. Service has always been fine and they've never mixed up our order. The soups come in big bowl-like containers so you can eat straight out of them; the banchan is usually kimchi, braised potatoes and a spicy odeng/fishcake; and everything is packed pretty well in the sense that nothing has ever spilled! What we got: Kimchi pancake - This one isn't too spicy! Our kids really like it from here. Chadol salad - One of our go-to orders! The meat usually has a great smoky flavor that pairs so well with the salad, which is slightly sweet and tangy. It's like you get to enjoy bbq without having to grill it yourself. Grilled mackerel - Our kids usually love this. It's like slightly crispy on the outside while the meat is tender and juicy. Mandugguk - So flavorful! It's almost like they use galbitang broth! It comes with rice cakes and egg, so if you have an egg allergy then maybe this recipe isn't for you. But as one of the few non-spicy dishes this was a winner for our kids. We decided to give Haewadall another shot and it has turned a new leaf. The jokbal was soft and tender and freshly made; good quality. The bossam was also soft and naturally sweet; albeit not as naturally sweet nor as tender as the first year it opened (I remember wanting to eat the bossam as is without sauces). It did have a slight pig smell but not repulsive at all. I would definitely go back and order both dishes again. My mom was craving soondubu so we swung by Haewadall. She got the soondubu and I decided to try the ttuk bulgogi, a stew compromised of mushrooms, beef and glass noodles. Both stews hit the spot, especially on a cold, blustery day. Service was fast, side dishes replenished upon request, and the space was clean and a notch above hole in the wall. Conveniently located near loads of other grocery stores and restaurants when you're in the 'burbs. ===== Stopped by here for lunch on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to see that there were lots of seats available. There were a couple other groups all speaking in Konglish, which was a great sign. I ordered the number 2 from the dinner menu, spicy squid, and my friend got number 6, goat stew. They also gave us hot (barley?) tea, which was really lovely on a crisp fall day. I really liked my squid, and the goat stew wasn't bad (note that to others it was probably very good and I'm not the biggest goat fan and would not have ordered that in a million years lol). For banchan they gave cabbage kimchi, a sweetish potato thing, broccoli, wakame + onion, and stir-fried fishcake. I thought the banchan was fine, though not spectacular, and my favorites were the fishcake, potato, and kimchi. Me and my friend both found the food to not be that spicy, and portions are generous! Service was friendly and efficient, and I liked that they had little buttons at each table that you could use to call someone over. In the end we had a little bit of each dish remaining, so I asked for one box for holding both, and the server kindly gave me two small boxes, which worked perfectly! I'm guessing they're normally used for takeout orders for banchan. Surprisingly, I also wasn't charged the $1 per box fee. Thank you, kind server lady! I love this place so much! This is basically my go to place in the burbs for seafood pancake and bossam. They literally pack the seafood pancake with a ton of seafood in every bite. The bossam is always so fresh and good. I've been here for dinner many times and the service is always exceptional. The food here is just amazing! I had both their army soup and pork bone soup before. For sure I was a bigger fan of the pork bone soup because the army soup had a little too much sausages which is a good thing if you're into it! I cannot wait to return here whenever I'm in the area grocery shopping and in the mood for some authentic Korean food afterwards. I tried the monkfish with beansprouts last time with a bunch of friends and BOY IT WAS LEGIT! Now I finally understand why every table orders the bean sprout dish. Found beside the strip mall close to my favorite Korean Salon.Yangmi.. When you step in you will hear the loud chatter of young and old Koreans so you will know for sure that this place is good.. We had a very energetic male server who really took great care of us.. Even showed us that the radish kimchi will taste better mixed with rice.. I loved the atmosphere and was excired for our orders.. Seafood Pancake was crunchy on the edges and flvor was good.. Bossam was so tender.. you can taste the flavor when it was boiled.. especially when you make ssam with fresh garlic.. SO YUMMY!!! My mom raves about this restaurant and how their Ahgujjim (steamed monkfish & bean sprouts) is so delicious. I've been wanting to try this place out ever since my mom raved about it. Finally, I was able to give this place a try. My mom and I ordered of course the Ahgujjim and let me tell you.. it's HUGE!! and absolutely delicious. They fried the monkfish and pour the delicious spicy sauce over it. The sauce was perfect. Not too sweet nor too spicy. Just perfect. Let me tell you, just writing this is making my mouth water. Their side banchan (dish) was delicious as well especially the kimchi. The kimchi was definitely a rice killer, if you know what I mean. Definitely will come back. Covid 19 precaution: they have blinds that separate the tables only on the side tables where the bench is which was great for privacy feel. This is definitely one of my favorite Korean restaurant in IL! The service is always good here and I love that they have call buttons so it makes it easier to communicate with their servers. Their napkin dispensers are attached to the wall so it's shared in between tables if you're sitting close to a wall. If you're having a soju type of night, you need to order their bossam or jokbal. Both of the entrees are always so juicy and flavorful! You will not be disappointed. It's a pretty big serving so you can share it with 2-3 people. Their spicy army stew is also delicious! There's a ton of meat in the stew and it comes with melted cheese on top of the stew. The spicy stew has hotdogs, spam, kimchi, ramen, and veggies. I always order their steamed egg whenever I'm here because it's so good with rice. You definitely have to try it here! I hate to give such negative review during Covid-19 times when small businesses are impacted but I need people to know that their food tasted has changed so much. Once our beloved Korean food when they originally located on Dempster. Tho not our most fave after they moved to Milwaukee location, it was still a place I would crave for at times. We ordered 3 dishes during the month of June 2020 for a takeout. It was so disappointing. It's out of the way from my place but I've been looking forward to a delicious meal. Our family of 4 all agreed that the chef must've changed because it does not taste the same as before. Tonkatsu- from the get go, the color of the Katsu was different. It was very yellow and light in color. It was not light brown, like how it should be. They must've added extra curry powder because it had too much of curry flavor. Nothing like a typical Korean ton Katsu. Gul Bossam- our signature dish from Haewadall. What happened? It was horrible! The kimchi that comes with bossam, which is the best part in my opinion, has completely changed. It was extra salty, like I'm tasting marinated only in salt. It's definitely too small in portion for the price. Ahgujjim- once again portion too small compared to the price. It's also another must order dish but very disappointing. There were only a few pieces of meat. Instead of it being flavorful, it was only spicy. It is not how it used to be. This will be our last meal at Haewadall and won't return. My boyfriend and I were in the area and wanted GOOD food after a disappointing night market. He remembered going to Haewadall a couple years back and liking the food, so we decided to check it out. Walking in we saw a bunch of older Korean men (good sign of good food). The place was very busy and loud! But we did go on a Friday night, so do with that info as y. We ordered kimchi Jun and the haemul jjim. Food was good and service was very friendly, our server made sure I got pictures before cutting up our seafood :) took off a star because we felt like for the price we paid for the haemul jjim ($52.99) wasn't worth it because after a few bites of seafood we were left with a bunch of soy sprouts. read more

I was really looking forward to this meal since my wife and I had been craving for spicy braised monkfish dish since a few months back. We attempted a homemade version of it, but missing one key ingredient, minari (Korean watercress), it didn't come out quite 100% satisfactory. So I was left with two choices. I knew I was planning a trip to Chicago so I could either go to a Korean grocery store and look for minari and try to home cook again, or I could just find a place that serve the dish in hopes that they would whip'em up properly. I already knew it's not a dish that's served everywhere, but it turns out there aren't that many places that serve them at all. (Unless of course, I'm not looking at the right places) They looked right on photos, and the place itself had decent ratings so I said what the hell.. I was wrong......ish. I can't say it was bad. But it wasn't good, either. More importantly, they were missing the exact same ingredients my dish was missing that is minari. So at the end of the day it was all for naught. And really that's the most disappointing fact of it all. To be fair, all the other ingredients including the fish itself were fresh. But the fact that I still didn't get my minari, plus the actual seasoning/sauce was not any better than my homemade version made it a very dissatisfactory experience. Donkatsu (pork cutlet) my daughter ordered was fried properly, but the meat could have used a bit more care in trimming tendon. Made the meat a bit touch to chew. I guess I should emphasize that this review only reflects the few dish I ordered this time around. I'm sure it's possible my experience might have been completely different had I ordered something entirely different. After all, nobody advertised them as experts in monkfish. But I guess until the next time I get a chance to revisit them for different set of dishes, I'll have to stick to my honest 3-star review. read more

What happened to this place? We've been coming here for a few years now but something has changed. Walked in around 5pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. 2 tables of single diners and another with 2 diners were the only ones there. In the past when we've been here, the place was packed and had lots of families dining. We had our go-to pork bone stew. There wasn't a lot of meat on the bones and there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor. We also had the kimchi pancake which was okay. We prefer it to be a little more crispy and this was soggy. They served only 4 little dishes of pretty sad ban chan. The other tables left, leaving us as the only patrons in the restaurant. The energy in the place is just dead and lifeless ... silent ... nothing fun or exciting about the experience. Another group came in when we were close to leaving and there were a couple of pickups for takeout but that was about it. Service is indifferent at best. Don't expect any smiles or nice greeting from anyone. Sad because we used to love this place but will be looking for somewhere else to go. read more

My absolute favorite place for korean food in the Morton Grove area. Their banchans are always spot on and quailty of food is excellent! Lunch specials are really where the value is since you can get a bibimbap, sundubu or yukejang for $6.95 during weekday lunch times. (see my pics for the full menu). If you've never tried korean food before, I suggest you take a shot and try this place! It might be a little intimidating but this place is authentic and the waitresses are very nice! I've brought a group of 8 coworkers here for lunch and they provided excellent service and everyone enjoyed their food! FYI, their kimchi is my favorite of the korean restaurants in the area! The taste is overall good, but the octopus tasted a bit funky the second time i tried.. but i could've been just sensitive to the taste.
