Found on a long a** strip mall in the heart of Niles (close and not too far from Glenview) you have an array of options to choose from as far as parking and other eating establishments within the area. I can't even tell you how many times I've had to ask for addt sides at other places and this lady was ON IT! She catered to our every need without having to ask! Came here because my girlfriend really likes a dish from another location of theirs in California. This location, however, was a severe disappointment, both to her and myself. Their spicy pork bone soup had a dirty taste for what flavor there was, and nothing tasted fresh. The dumplings were visibly old. The bottom was falling apart, and the top had an unpleasant crusty texture. I can not tell you what was on the inside because it had no flavor, and the menu description does not tell you. Either way, these dishes left me with feeling sick to my stomach and bad taste in my mouth compared to the traditional Korean food we love eating. I usually don't comment on the interior, but the establishment is not well. Much of it is dirty, covered in dust and grime. Additionally, when we were about to pay, it took a very long time for the server to get back to us. It seems that if you pay with a large bill well over the amount of the bill and tip, they will assume it's all tip and just keep all your money. I can't recommend this location. Let me start off with prefacing this - no, the taste is not 5 stars. I'd like to think I'm somewhat of a Korean cuisine connoisseur (*coughsnob) and I've been to some excellent restaurants. What I'm rather basing the stars of this restaurant is on the total experience. Would I go back alone or with just hubby? No. Would I get take out here? No. But for a group experience when I'm treating or we're all sharing, I'd definitely go. The food is, while not top notch Michelin star quality, quite good. And you can actually have the Korean barbecue experience. They have a cooktop on the table, where you can grill meat, or use the grill to make stir fried squid (or other things they have at their restaurant. I'm not sure what - our friend just ordered the squid) on the table. If you order fried rice afterwards, a server will come and make the fried rice for you on the table, like so many restaurants in Korea do. To be honest, the older server was not the best cook of the fried rice lol... Like a new guy doing it for the third time. But he worked really hard. And the end result was pretty good! A for effort! It was quite entertaining, if not most proficient. And I thought he was kind of brusque when he first started making the rice, but I kept talking to him, and he really warmed up. By the time he was done with the friend rice, he was super nice. Overall, I had a great experience. And yes, if the food wasn't good I would not have given them 5 stars. So it was good. Nothing much more to say that this place is hands down one of the best hole in the wall spots on the entire North Shore. This was not what I would consider a 'bbq' place because you're cooking on a hot plate not an actual grill like other places where you'll get the bbq flavor and char. So your meat starts accumulating the liquid and you'll have to tip the plate to drain the liquid. Service: Was okay but we had to keep reminding for more water. The lady owner/manager was not very friendly and did not want to provide any additional eggplant sides even though I was willing to pay for it?! It's been around for quite some time and also has noraebang (karaoke) rooms in the back if you want to burn some calories singing after a large meal. The thin-cut pork belly though was probably a little better just because of the taste and jucier texture, though not by a large margin. The thick-cut pork belly is decent but tougher than the thin-cut, but it's worth trying. I would not get the marinated beef short rib unless you want it for variety since it's a little thick and harder to chew. The panchan (side dishes) were decent options, specifically the broccoli, eggplant, and salad. All in all, this place is good for nostalgia and fair-priced AYCE, so I'd come back. read more

They were pretty busy when we came in around 11:30 on a Saturday. Still, the servers brought us everything we needed, and although they didn't quite check in with us, they have a button on the table we could press if we needed anything (more water, napkins, etc.). The food here was better than expected, and all the servers and most of the other customers were masked up. The prices were pretty reasonable too! We tried the gamja tang, seafood pancake, dukboki, spicy stir fry squid, and fried chicken. The pancake and dukbokki were good, but nothing special. The gamja tang had large pieces of super tender, falling off the bone pork, with a nice deep/rich flavor. Generous amount of meat too, especially for the price. My daughter's friend came to visit us and wanting to try a Korean restaurant. It's our first time so we really don't know this place ( but we went to several Korean bbq before. )Comparing to other other restaurants like this kind , I find this not very appealing. Not very nice when it comes to customer service- (we were very polite & friendly in asking)the waitresses says yes but they tend to ignore what you had requested, we need to request 2 to 3 times. 2. Salad was not fresh, the appetizer some taste good , some nah... 3. The bulgogi beef look like stew they put it on a square folded tin foil then put it on the top of that grilling tray- so expect your bulgogi will be swimming on its soupy excess water coming out from the meat- we just had few bites and left it on the grill , hard 3, not worth to get ayce, better to order by menu . 4. By the time you pay EXPECT that the cashier decides how much tip you must give, . I really give a good tip when they deserve it. This restaurant? Nah.... As if they are afraid to serve more food . Went on a weeknight in the afternoon. There were a few tables getting their food. There were 2 people working at the time. We were given menus right away and were able to order. We ordered beer and were given bottle openers. I get that they'll give us a bottle opener but as a courtesy, I would've appreciated it if they opened our first round for us. I didn't order food that required grilling. Food wasn't as good as from what I remember. One of the food that I ordered was undercooked so when I asked them to cook it some more, they said it would burn if they cooked anymore, so they took it away & taken off bill. Didn't want to use Yelp to leave bad reviews, but I feel like I have to save people the trouble of trying this place. We were seated right away, and our initial server was nice and got our sides out fast. The problems started with when we were brought out our first meat choice for the all you can eat selection. They have a stone cooking surface of about 1'x2' but for some reason we were only allowed to use a foil boat covered center that was probably 1/4 of the available space. They explained that the stone surface was thick so I didn't think anything of it, until I noticed other parties around my own were using the full surface without issue. After they finished setting up, when our beef bulgogi arrived it was all dumped into the foil boat at once. The meat was all clumped together and we were forced to cook it all at once. This caused some parts to cook fast and others to stay raw. The marinade was also left in to the edge of the foil boat, so that the meat couldn't be cooked with a little char which we wanted. The beef bulgogi ended up being tender, but pretty bland. The little char would've helped add flavor, but it couldn't happen since the meat was all cooked at once while swimming in its marinade. The second meat choice wasn't any better. After they came by and rushed us to put the beef bulgogi aside, our spicy pork bulgogi was dumped in the same foil boat. This one was a little worse because the meat was super clumped up to where the inside wasn't marinated. After separating the meat ball where it could be cooked properly, we tried to let it stay on the heat for awhile so we could be sure it cooked thoroughly since it was pork. When another server came by and saw, she signaled to us to start eating. Even though the pork wasn't totally finished the way we wanted. I told her I wanted it a little crispy and she left. But minutes later came back and started flipping and cutting the meat for us, telling us again it was ready. The spicy pork bulgogi wasn't any better, like I hoped it would be. It was also bland, and not spicy, which was surprising given that it's usually more flavorful than beef bulgogi. To top it all off we couldn't get it crispy, how we like it, because we were being rushed. After all this, we were in a hurry to go. Which usually isn't the case in an all you can eat KBBQ. But here it was. We didn't even want another round of either of the meats, that says a lot. Once the bill came, we saw they add about 20% gratuity for parties over 2 people, which is a shame because I feel it wasn't deserved. And when they came back with the receipt, they asked for us to leave an additional tip, which was not happening considering how the meal went. On the way out, I saw other tables doing the all you can eat, using the full cooking surface without a tiny foil boat. Additionally, I noticed that they were being served neat and clean plated cuts of meat. This made me feel we were being served sub standard quality food, which added insult to injury. Ultimately, I feel like this place treated me and my family differently than their other guests, which is sad and the reason why I'm leaving this review in detail. We made it for 1130pm and made it there literally with 5 min to spare. They sat us in our booth. But when I tell you, this woman was rude with an attitude from the jump. She really was. She rushed us during for our orders. We just told her we want the AYCE. Then she gave us our water and banchan. We had to ask for soup and rice multiple times before she brought them to us...again with an attitude. At first we shucked it off as it being late and we were a big party so she was probably tired and overwhelmed. But naw, she was really rude for no reason. When she brought us our food, she wouldn't let us cook. Which I get, sometimes certain KBBQ places will cook for you. But she literally yanked the tong out of my hand :/ that was when all of us was like "let's just hurry up and finish this". Now, the food was pretty good. We didn't really order much of variety. We literally just ordered brisket, marinated beef, bulgogi and that's it. And we just rotated between those 3. The banchan, you could tell it was made a few hours prior. But they were still tasty just not...fresh. I had made a comment to my friends that I was going to write a review about the experience and idk if the lady heard me or not. But her attitude literally did a 180 on us. Lmao she was much friendlier and nicer. And kept asking us if we needed anything else and if we were sure that we didn't need anything else. She even offered to take our group photos for us. Idk wtf happened but it was mad weird. The ahjussi (not sure if he's the owner) also came out and talked to us and was very fascinated by my friends Polaroid camera. Overall, we had a great dinner. Food was good. It has to be the best Gamja Tang I had had in Chicago. And a bonus? Come here during lunch special hours! Getting fantastic food and super filled for about $10. It's such a bargain!!! Both of us went straight for the Gamja Tang. Although the place only had one waiting staff, who was in charge of everything, our food was presented at an extremely timely manner. And now about the food... I had a very high level of heat tolerance, and ordered mine as extra spicy. I was so glad that I did! The pork bone was braised to amazingly soft and tender, to the extent that the meat was falling off from the bone. And pairing that with a very flavorful and spicy broth, what a dream coming true! My go-to place every time I drive down to Chicago. I ordered soondae kuk, and asked for soondae and jokbal to go. Because I live in Minnesota, they offered to vacuum seal the two. As for the food - now, there are a lot of Korean restaurants in the Chicago area, but I have yet to come across one that makes better soondae kuk than Jang Choong Dong (for those who are not familiar with soondae, think of it as a Korean sausage). For someone who had a 6 hr incoming drive, it was necessary to eat something both tasty and energy-boosting. As usual, the soup did not fail my expectation. Let me just start by saying this place is just another ordinary Korean restaurant. Don't come here expecting amazing Korean food with amazing quality. If you're coming for unlimited kbbq, it's honestly not a terrible deal, but I also wouldn't drive more than 20 minutes to get that here. There are better unlimited kbbq places. The food is pretty decent. Like I said, it's nothing over the top, but it's good food. If you're not Korean, there may be a slight language barrier, but simple orders are no problemo. One thing I love about this place is that it opens very late at night! Also, their bossam is pretty bomb. Lol funny thing is I was here for a birthday party and of course there was a cake. I asked the waitress if she can put the cake in a fridge she said okay and proceed to put the cake on a table next to us. So I brought to her attention if she can put the cake into the fridge and her face blanked out and said "what?" I said refrigerator. And she said "sorry I don't understand" and walked away. I'm going to combine reviews here between the restaurant as well as the karaoke rooms. I honestly think it's the best AYCE Korean BBQ in the Chicago area. The cuts of meat have a good variety and the quality of it is good too. The cuts at other places have obviously been frozen and just pulled out of the freezer. The meat here seems fresh I particularly like the chadol and the jeurim-gotta love the beef. The banchan they provide is plentiful, particularly the gae jang, the spicy raw crab. The tray they have is really fun, the metal pig drains out the back end. The service can be okay-it really depends on who you get. We have a favorite waitress who is not only really funny but pays us a lot of attention. Every time I come here I usually end up going to sing after dinner. There are better facilities, newer ones with newer songs but they are nowhere near as friendly as this place. Good place for some homey korean food. On a cold winter day, Gamja jjgae and Odeng Udon both warmed a friend and I up! Odeng Udon tasted like the classic korean odeng broth (clear fish cake soup) with the addition of udon noodles. The odeng pieces were chewy and the broth was comforting. But just a minor point of personal preferences-- wished the egg was less cooked. Gamja jjigae had a generous heaping of meat and the bone broth that came from the meat tasted hearty. While the Odeng broth was very simple, the Gamja jjigae bone broth was deep and flavorful with a bit of heat. Enjoyed this one. The worst all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ I've ever had in my entire life. Total waste of money... All the meats were very very chewy and bland that it almost tasted like cardboard. I went there with two of my friends, and we talked about how our jaws hurt so much that we might develop jaw lines like Quagmire from Family Guy. Tosi-sal was the only meat that was semi-okay. Other meats tasted all the same and were not great at all.
