I came here to meet up with a friend around 1pm on a Thursday. The parking lot is pretty small, so I was super lucky to get a stall. They also close at 2pm, so I was worried they weren't gonna have much food left. To my surprise, there were three different types of scones left, and I decided to get a savory one with bacon, chives, and cheddar. They warmed it up, and it was so flavorful and delicious! Pai Cafe deserves an "honorable mention" on my recommended cafes in Hawai'i list. As many of you may know, I used to be a batista in Hawai'i before Starbucks arrived, yes, I'm old, but I've also traveled the world and once lived, very briefly, in the home state of Starbucks. I absolutely abhor the company for SO many reasons and I think as people who love the aina, especially when in Hawai'i, it would benefit everyone to avoid them. So Pai Cafe may not have specspectacular ocean or mountain views, but it's very close to both mountains, such as Diamond Head, and beaches, Waikiki. And with the limited indoor and outdoor seating, I recommend taking your drinks and food to go anyway. And here's the main reason why, everything is so picnic and environmentally friendly! If you love matcha and/or coffee, then this is your stop! They have creative specialty drinks for both! They also have acai bowls and tasty scones, perfect for eating on the beach! Came across this place while driving around town and when we checked their menu, their signature coffees sounded interesting so we decided to give them a try. We decided to get their Hawaiian latte and their velvet cream cold brew. Their Hawaiian latte was very nutty and light while their cold brew was very creamy with a stronger coffee taste. The cold brew was very similar to Starbucks cold brew but this place is better imo. I don't think there was anything too special about their espresso, however, I think the flavors of the coffees we got were very unique and they both tasted pretty good. I'd say their coffees were worth trying! Pastries also looked amazing, definitely have to try it next time we come back. Their service was also really great! It's been a year and a half since I've been home and then I drive down Kapahulu and... new building! Wait! Cafe! I quickly pulled into the closest parking spot. It's a cute little space. I think they could use their space a bit better, but I guess it works for now. Super clean which is nice. Their menu is definitely interesting! My sister got a Marsala Chai Latte, I got a Lavender Latte and we both had some Earl Grey Scones. Of course I had to taste my sister's drink to leave an accurate review! And it was fantastic. The spices were so bold and rich, they just danced along my tongue and lingered even after I'd swallowed a few sips. As for the Lavender Latte, I can't say that I'd ever tried one, but I love Lavender and I love coffee. Pai Cafe has found a way to balance the best essence of both flavors in such a harmony that you can taste both, but they almost become one flavor. It's absolutely delicious. My only cringe thing were those scones! I really wanted to like them! If you've had Earl Grey, you know a scone with that flavor would be amazing! But it tasted so plain to me and even my sister said it was just meh. The texture also was not giving "scone" either. I LOVE this cute little cafe! The matcha latte was delicious, and didn't taste overly sweet, like many do. It was so yummy I got another one to bring for my friend! The owner was born and raised here and ran off to Seattle after high school. He unsurprisingly fell in love with coffee and generously shares this passion with us. Pai Cafe was our favorite cafe that we visited on our trip to Honolulu! Since we only had a 10 days there, we figured that we likely wouldn't make repeat visits anywhere we went, but we actually came here three times before we left. We found that their coffees were very well made, my wife ended up preferring hers slightly less sweet but the flavor of the drinks I had (Hawaiian Latte and a few others) was pretty spot on for my preferences. They also made my favorite acia bowl of the many I had in Hawaii. They didn't have the widest variety of bowl options compared to other places, but their classic acai bowl had the freshest flavor and best consistency even when compared to the extremely popular locations. The only thing I will warn about though - be careful about the parking! The small plaza of connected businesses have QR codes inside the buildings for customers to scan and enter their license plates for a duration of free parking. There are multiple signs posted in the store to remind people of this, and when we came the staff were also quite attentive to warning us of the precaution. read more

They had a very nice looking list of teas and some beautiful scones and banana bread that weren't for me, but my partner would've been all over. The cafe is clean, quiet, and well located. Gonna love it here... Pai Cafe is the newest tenant on Kapahulu in the Wong Leong Plaza which also home to Mango Mango, GNC and Honu's Kalihi and Sushi. This little cutie does keep in mind what the average person craves coming into a cafe...seating which a couple of them having outlets to conveniently charge your devices, a restroom all in a cool and comforting place. Offering all the usual coffee, espresso and matcha drinks they also have smoothies and açaí bowl besides some yummy baked goods like today there wasn't much left but earl grey and Sundried tomato pesto scones, and a single banana bread which they're able to warm it up for you is a great option. The owners here are just a delight as I went with the suggestion of Honey Rose Matcha which I really didn't like at the first sip it tasted like soap as it was so overpowering and it just wasn't for me and after checking on me I told them I didn't like it and being the type not to complain as it was my decision to buy it they insisted on giving me a regular Matcha Latte and knowing it's a small biz I really hate to do that really wanted to buy another. We got one acai bowl and one pitaya bowl. I loved the acai bowl and was really full after. The fruits tasted really fresh and I loved the granola! Micah was kind to ask if regular dairy milk was okay. They offer non-dairy alternatives! My boyfriend and I want to try their cold brew and matcha next time! There were so many scones to choose from! The cookie was tempting too. We decided to order the Portuguese scone and the Earl Grey Lemon scone (bestseller). Micah offered to warm the scones but we intended to eat them at home. I think I just fell in love. Pai Cafe has some of THE BEST coffee I've had in town! They serve an assortment of pastries, like scones. Unfortunately, I was already full when I got there so I didn't get any, but opted for some drinks instead. They have a lot of different drinks I've never seen before and the owner was nice enough to answer each and every one of my bajillion questions. Here's what I ended up getting: - Hawaiian Latte (L) ($6): Coffee with Coconut and Macnut Syrup--two things I've had separately but never together in one drink. In a pleasant way, I tasted a hint of peanut butter even though there wasn't any in it. A fantastic pick and I would totally get this again. - Honey Rose Matcha (L) ($6): This is their most popular drink, and I got lucky by scoring the very last one of the day! It lives up to the hype because goddamn, this was delicious. In this case, the matcha actually ended up complimenting the floral scent of the rose syrup. A truly unique drink. The one thing I really appreciate about Pai is that they know how to make their drinks smell AND taste delicious. My one critique is that their drinks are on the sweeter side so maybe next time, I'll ask if they can make any adjustments. I tried their rose matcha latte - I need to give them credit for the rose syrup, it does stand out. However, it was stand out to a point that overcome the matcha taste. I couldn't taste much matcha. Pro Tip: forgo using the straw and just drink out of the cup so that the mouthfeel/texture otherwise the coffee is a little strong. Regular iced matcha was tasty, will need to try their honey rose matcha that everyone raves about. Star of the show was their chocolate cookies. It was large and at a great price. So tasty, slight chewy, chocolatey that's complimented perfectly by the sprinkling of the salt. It was so good that mother went to buy two more a few days later.
