I feel kind of bad for leaving a bad review because the staff was so friendly - the place also has a nice atmosphere. This was our first time going here - I ordered the MP fish plate - halibut. I'm so disappointed with the quality of the food. I don't think I've ever been to a fish restaurant in SoCal where the fish was totally over cooked and dry. The wait staff also took a long time to take our order with a bunch of them just loitering around and talking to each other. We had to steal our own utensils from another table - other tables were given them when they sat down or they were already on the table. I wanted to really like this place but between the delayed staff experience, the over cooked halibut, totally overdressed salad... the only thing I liked on the plate were the sweet potato fries (they were probably the best I've had). Guacamole is underseasoned, néeds more salt and lime juice. Salmon was overcooked & dry. Kimchi fried rice was awful, so much mayo and tastes nothing like true kimchi fried rice. Our server Phil was amazing and he was spot on with his recommendations. We had the seasonal miso cod and sea bass which were both delicious. They were seasoned and cooked perfectly. We had a reservation through Open Table and was greeted warmly by the manager and seated promptly. Our server Jake was very attentive and provided great service throughout the meal. We ordered the Salmon-Avocado Poke as a starter, and the Mixed Grill Plate for Two with Thai Green Curry and Chimichurri Sauce on the side. We also had the Nina Colada and Nojito for drinks. Ordered the kanpachi yellowtail pineapple salsa style with shishitos, spicy steak tacos, double rainbow sushi bowl, a side of corns, and veggie roll and calamari as appetizers. Service was terrible as the staff was very inexperienced and disorganized, water wasn't filled up and no refill on the soft drinks. Shishitos was sold and over cooked, steak on the tacos were basically raw and cold, the salmon and tuna on the sushi bowls were discolored and definitely were frozen before and fell apart. The veggie roll's rice was very watery and the seaweed was not wrapped. Calamari wasn't cooked either so very soft and sticky. Overall very low quality food and inadequate service. I want to give 4 stars but I truly can't. Yelp isn't based just on food quality, but also the experience, ambiance and most importantly the service apart from the food. First, we ordered the shishito pepper, steelhead fish(trout) and also got a surf and turf. Food was great, proteins were cooked perfectly and price point seems fair. Second, the ambiance and bar area was beautiful and extremely spacious. Last, our server Francisco seemed a little too cool to serve us on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy, I'd say restaurant was at 50% capacity at the time. He greeted us and left after 10 seconds without asking if we needed anything. We waited about 5-10 mins before I had to stop him just so we can order. He was just at the host stand talking lol. We asked about the steelhead before we ordered and he said it was a white fish but it definitely was not lol. He probably spent a total of 45 seconds to 1 minute at our table the whole dining experience which is wild to me. Lack of knowledge, service and just didn't seem right at a beautiful spot. Our bill was under 100$ and we still tipped 18%. He made about 20$ for saying what's up. It's not a great feeling having a day off to eat a new restaurant and have a bad dining experience simply based on the service. We asked for his name at the host stand and I believe a lady manager/supervisor was standing next to a host and didn't ask or why we were asking for his name. I don't usually leave reviews but the service, and atmosphere was so off I have to write about it. First thing was they sat us in the outdoor patio space in the very back where the employees were hanging out and most of the restaurant was empty. We were sitting in a booth and employees were on both sides of our booth hanging out, (even our waiter was conversating with them and not waiting on us) eating, and having discussions that when it finally started to get busy around 6pm another employee told them she needed the table back to seat guests.... I have never witnessed that kind of unprofessionalism at a restaurant. Secondly, since we were in the back, there was a service cart that had utensils, napkins, plates, to go boxes on it which we had to grab ourselves every one of the items because the server never provided it to us. Lastly, the server told us incorrect information about the food and didn't seem to care much which led to us ordering something that we believed was not spicy but come to find out it was not the case AT ALL. Honestly for being a new restaurant, that was the worst service I have seen. Unfortunately it seemed like nobody wanted to be working there and for how nice the space was the employees were not a good representation of the business. Furthermore, I would not recommend any dish I got as it was mediocre and the drinks were not made well.
